What The Saints Did In The Draft

April 29th, 2023

Rough day for Jameis Winston.

The slimy Saints, like every other club, have been trying to improve in this week’s NFL Draft.

First, New Orleans drafted for need with Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bressee at No. 29 overall. Joe is intrigued because the Bucs drafted the same position at No. 19 with University of Pittsburgh DT Calijah Kancey.

In Round 2, the Saints went edge rusher with Isaiah Foskey out of Notre Dame. He’s a big dude at 6-5, 266 pounds, but he’s not an athletic freak. Foskey is more of a work ethich guy who has had some injury issues.

Round 3 brought running back Kendre Miller. He led TCU in rushing last season with 1,399 yards (6.2 yards per carry) and had 17 touchdowns.

New Orleans also traded up to get first pick of Round 4, where they pounced on tackle/guard Nick Saldiveri out of Old Dominion. Later in Round 4 they got backup quarterback Jameis Winston a new friend in Fresno State quarterback Jake Haener. If Haener is decent, he’ll like replace Jameis in 2024 as the No. 2 to starter Derek Carr.

Lol huh??? Drafting a qb means nothing now a days if they are not in the top 20 lol… Teams arent afraid to cut or use these guys as backups… just look at us.. we drafted trask in round 2, and blaine gabbert never had a “rough day” lol. Now our starter is mayfield.. imagine if trask was a 4th rounder he would probably already be cut

    It’s ok.
I’m sure JayMiss feels blessed and will just try to improve. The Goot Lawd will surely light his way…….

  5. Buc You Says:

Bucs drafted another defender… maybe Devon White is on notice… or perhaps he is getting the help he needs on defense.

One question, did the Bucs scouting department get limited to only a few pro days this season? It appears they did make in to the University of Pittsburgh though.

  6. D-Rok Says:

I just heard on Sirius that Derek Carr also went to Fresno State, where Haener is from. Interesting connection, for what it’s worth. But, who cares about them Aints? LOL.

    Trent Dilfer went to Fesno.

With all their great drafts they have one super bowl
With all of Jason’s awful drafts we have one super bowl with him
    Thank you TB12

The sad part is that Winston would be a MASSIVE upgrade for the Bucs. That’s literally why the Saints didn’t cut him, because they know that as well.

J-miss still lives in Joe’s head rent free…..

Jose, I’d like to I unread this.

  12. Winny Testaverde Says:

Yep…those plucky Saints boxing out the Bucs for the rights to bring back Winny & The Glory Days/Daze.

Better go easy on the spritzers and white wine at your salon today, Hairdresser Hot Rod. Saturdays tend to get wild up in there!

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Winny – Why exactly do you think the Saints kept Winston around? Because the Falcons, Panthers and Bucs need a QB – the Saints just paid huge money for someone and they didn’t.

Now put that hamster in your head (I don’t want to know how it got there) on its wheel and let it go to work and see if you can’t figure it out…

  14. Tye Says:

Surprised Winston still n the league… May be his last this year unless the Saints release him before the season starts!

  15. Winny Testaverde Says:

Hot Rod no doubt high off the chemicals in his salon…next the Taints/Falcons/Panthers ( again ) are dying to re-sign McCoy ( despite his retirement announcement).

Hairdresser Hot Rod’s Ring of Dishonor Current Rankings:

    1) Winny-hottest free agent to take a drastic pay cut in 2023
    2) McCoy…had multiple offers but retired instead
    3) Matt Gay…the one who got away who Hot Rod gave frosted tip(s) at his salon

I’d stick to your precious poetry, chatting up your gal pals at the salon and asking your “insider” what went wrong with the Aaron Rodgers trade to Tampa

Not really. Take away the irrelevant yards stat and they’re basically the same player. Baker is far less prone to throwing INTs and fumbling.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

    D-Rome – LOL!

The reworked deal between Jameis and the Saints allowed a couple of things no one has pointed out yet.

    1. It had a lower cap number for the New Orleans Saints than if they outright cut him
    and
    2. It allowed Jameis to get more money from the Saints, then he would have gotten on the open market.

My opinion is that it had nothing to do with the Saints keeping Winston to avoid another team (including the Bucs) take him. It was just the smart salary option for both parties (Saints team and Jameis Winston) in this instance.

But I accept that someone might have a different opinion.

  19. stpetebucfan Says:

I guess Winston lovers believe that the rest of the NFL forgot to “check their sheets”.

“But I accept that someone might have a different opinion.”

Geno this is why you are one of our very best posters. What a concept agree to disagree.
