Devin White Demands Trade

April 11th, 2023

Wants out.

Devin White wants out of Tampa Bay.

[UPDATED]

That’s what Jenna Laine of ESPN is reporting. She says the Pro Bowl linebacker apparently is fed up with the Bucs and wants out.

Joe guesses White, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, was in contract talks with the Bucs and didn’t like how things went. And Laine suggests the same thing.

A little over a month ago, White had very cryptic messages on his Instagram stories account where he seemed to be suggesting he’s done with the Bucs.

White later took to Twitter and declared there was no hidden messages, just that he was surprised how quickly his first four years in the NFL blew by.

Still, he typed “Next stop” on a photo of a road seemed ominous.

Has this been brewing for a few weeks?

This is, of course, a developing situation. Stay tuned.

He must have figured out he isn’t getting 100 million dollar contract here…..

  6. Lamarcus Says:

    Good. He blows

  7. Doctor_Berto Says:

Trade him and never look back. Can’t tie up 20 mil a year for a mediocre MLB.

  8. Nwbucsfan Says:

We will rightfully get nothing for him

  9. Tim Says:

Good, get a late 1st round pick and draft his successor on day 2 or 3.

    Owen Pappoe – Auburn
    Jack Campbell – Iowa
    Noah Sewell – Oregon

  10. pewter941 Says:

I see you guys chose a picture of him looking mad lol

  11. westernbuc Says:

He wanted to be a $100 million dollar player but hadn’t been. Bye

  12. Gbobucsfan Says:

Tim – late 1st round pick?? Hahaha not a chance

  13. gp Says:

Kinda curious just what his trade value might be?

  14. alaskabuc Says:

If we can get an early second for him I would take that. Go get the kid from Arkansas

  15. Ds Says:

    What’s his worth

  16. Doctor_Berto Says:

Not getting anything more than a third for him.

  17. Joshua porter Says:

I’d tell him play or stay home cuz we can’t get anything for you. He’s always been a me player and not a team player.

  18. Mr. Magoo Says:

Isn’t this the 5th year of his contract that the Bucs picked up? He’d be a $12 million dollar salary cap hit to cut him. I don’t remember hearing that he’s signed a new deal, he must be trying to pressure the Bucs for a long term deal.

  19. Shrek_33 Says:

lol All these haters. There’s a reason ya’ll are on your couch eating Pizza on Sundays and not in an Office at One Buc Place evaluating personnel. This guy is a monster, and we wont do better in FA or the Draft. Now if he wants #1 ILB money, then we don;t have a choice. Stop acting like any of you know talent, if you think this guy is a bum.

  20. Philip Howard Says:

Most underrated linebacker in the game. Zero coverage skills. Bye Felicia

  21. Doctor_Berto Says:

Shrek, he constantly is graded out as a bottom five MLB. He misses tackles, takes bad angles, and can’t cover. You don’t pay someone like that top dollar. He’s fast in a straight line, that’s it.

  22. 954Joe Says:

I’m not gonna say suddenly the comments section hates him cuz you guys have been warming this one up all season. Let’s not forget who it shines a light on if our 5th overall pick who helped us win a SB is gone in 4 years, hopefully we get a good return for the draft

  23. gotbbucs Says:

Must be friends with Roquan Smith.

  24. WillieG Says:

He probably wants to get paid like the monster linebacker he was after he had Covid during the Super Bowl season, but in reality, most of the time, he plays like Kwon Alexander.

  25. pewter941 Says:

Maybe we can use him to trade up.

  26. Dr. Doom (& Gloom) Says:

He was a liability last year. Let him go. Get a 3rd round pick if you can and move on.

  27. Dooley Says:

1st round comp? Probably not, as ILB is the defensive equivalent to RBs in term of being devalued over the years, but I’d take a 2nd/3rd & 5th for Devin White all day and then draft Daiyan Henley out of Washington State to replace him. Dude really is trying to follow after Roquan Smith thinking he’s going to get $100M deal in a year majority of teams around the league aren’t spending money like that to begin with.

  28. robert Says:

white is the only sane guy in the room. surprised we have not had 3-5 players do the same.

  29. Dewey Selmon Says:

Don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you.

  30. Shrek_33 Says:

    @ Dr Berto

Devon White 2022 Stats Amongst ALL DEFENSIVE PLAYERS

    Top 25- Tackles
    Top 20- Assists
    Tied 1st- Fumble Recoveries (3)

    Please, the adults are talking

  31. sasquatch Says:

    Bye!

  32. Marine Buc Says:

This announcement hurts the Bucs ability to get a fair trade for D. White.

Now it is clear he does not want to be in Tampa… I knew something was up when White posted all those cryptic messages on his IG account.

I hope we can at least get a 3rd round pick for Devin or maybe a 4th and a 5th…

Now we have another position of need for this upcoming draft.

    – OT
    – Edge
    – DT
    – CB
    – WR
    – RB
    – TE
    – S
    – ILB

That’s quite the list of needsvfor one draft to fill.

  33. Joshua porter Says:

Now look up missed tackles blown coverages and how many times he’s not where he’s supposed to be . Team sport and he is not a team player

  34. Andrew Fish Says:

hope we can get a good return.

  35. Ds Says:

    Can’t form tackle

  36. Anthony Says:

Good. Let’s use the picks to draft a new LB and the money to ensure that David retires a Buc

  37. cgmaster27 Says:

    @Shrek
Nice work bringing three meaningless stats to defend White. Tackles? Really? I guess you loved Barret Rudd? Tackles and assists mean nothing. The fumble recoveries are merely right place at the right time.
Meanwhile , he can’t even cover his own shadow and was CONSTANTLY running out of his gap in run defense. This isn’t an adults talking thing. This is common sense. The dude has massively overvalued himself, not to mention, we wouldn’t want him getting bored out there for his play to slip.

  38. 5-12 Says:

Todd Bowles Tampa Bat Bucs lol.

    What a dumpster fire.

Maybe Canales can fill in and play that position too? I mean after all, the fanboys speak about him like he’s God.

  39. D-Rome Says:

Good player but if he’s looking for top ILB money he’ll have to get it elsewhere. He’s ultimately a step or two up from Kwon Alexander.

  40. Fishhawkbuc Says:

I only wish she played better than the past couple of years. It would’ve move this way off the draft board this year with the trade. He often over pursues plays, which results in miss tackles/blown gap assignments.

  41. Fishhawkbuc Says:

    Way up the draft board

  42. cmurda Says:

Look at all the hate for him. He’s a stud whether we like it or not.

@Marine @Gbobucsfan I do think he would still fetch a 1st round pick or an early 2nd at worst.

I think Bucs can do better than a 3rd round pick. It’s not worth it for that. If that’s the best we can do, then you tell Devin I don’t care what you demand. You’re a Bucaneer for now.

  43. Nano Says:

He has no leverage, he gets almost 12 million this year
He playing next to David which helps
Bucs have all the powers here
Bad advice made him do this

  44. Eckwood Says:

If he’s as good as most on this site believe , he would fetch a first and a third on a sign and trade but the Bucs will be lucky to get a late second or third ………. What does that mean , Well that means anyone from game one that thought he was anything special , well the other scouts don’t agree !!! He can run down hil with the best of them but other than that he’s just tooted his own horn .

  45. So there's Hope Says:

    While you’re at it..

Release Shaq …. Too much liability… Or take a pay cut..

  46. Zahir Britt Says:

I would him and a 2025 2nd round pick (maybe a 4th) for a pick with Seattle or eagles. Use that pick to trade back at less to the 15th pick and use the 15th and 19th Lukas Van Ness and Bijan Robinson. We could use an edge rusher (Shaq might not be the same) and Robinson is a generational(we missed out on Jonathan Taylor and I think he could be better) while getting the 15th pick we could also add an extra 4th round pick. Then I would grab a RT in the second round and replace Devin White with Daiyan Henley from Washington State in the 3rd round. Let get selfish players off our team.

  47. Allbuccedup Says:

Now another hole to fill. Licht should have seen this coming and signed a descent FA replacement. Snooze you lose Jason.

  48. TonySoprano Says:

Best news I’ve be heard all day! Get this overrated, egotistical blockhead out of Tampa asap!

  49. Leopold Stotch Says:

Good riddance then. Overhyped, all talk, can’t cover well. 2020 playoffs was an outlier…clearly. I was disappointed when we picked him, but he kinda grew on me, and then slowly, based on his play and talk, don’t even care. Bye, Devin, hope you grow up and reach your potential. What a jerk.

  50. Aceofaerospace Says:

“If” he’s not all in, Bubye. I’m sure Houston or Washington could use another backup.

  51. Richard Says:

Good return? Not a chance!! As I’ve said all along , this guy is an average MLB at best….I’ve preached that on here over and over again. Go back and watch the game films, concentrate on him and you cannot reach any other conclusion…he is not a good football player, he’s a good athlete. Ravens game…despicable, Dallas playoff game…same. those are just 2 examples. The next block he sheds will be his first. I could go on and on ….just watch the replays. I don’t think he’ll even bring a 3rd round pick….maybe we can replace our 4th if we’re lucky…

  52. Go Bucs Says:

This sucks. He is decent and if they trade him it’s not like there is an amazing MLB in the draft.

  53. NYbucsfan Says:

He knows Bowles sucks and wants out!

  54. UKBuccaneer Says:

A guy who’s unplayable when he’s hot, but prone to errors and often goes missing. No problem, Devin. See ya around.

  55. LOL Says:

Could have traded him last season when he had some more value. SMH.

  56. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We continue to have cap problems that prevent us from giving players a nice raise in their final year in return for future savings on their contracts.

This happened with Godwin, Davis and now White……regardless of what you think of White…this is all about money.

And, yes….we should trade him if that’s what he wants. Because, he will not be easy to sign in FA and we would get nothing for him then.

My guess is that we could receive a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him.

But now….we’ll be needing 2 ILBs……one to replace White & another for LVD.

  57. Gman Says:

We will be 4-13 with you…we will be 4-13 without ya….see ya horse boy

  58. lambchop Says:

Cancer. I don’t care about his stats. If he doesn’t want to be here, then he’s a liability. This is a bad year to have this problem. Oh well, let’s see what happens. He also chose a bad time to make this demand coming off a poor showing last year with his effort. Which team is going to pay him top dollar?

He has shown flashes, but he’s no LaVonte David.

And for the stat-obsessed, our DL and playing next to LVD has allowed him to pad those stats.

  59. Richard Dickson Says:

I need to stop Bucs jerseys of current players….

Bought a Josh Freeman jersey, he flakes out and nosedives.

Bought a Jameis jersey, he bombs and is gone.

Bought a Devin White Super Bowl jersey, and now this.

So far only Mike Evans has held serve. So far.

  60. TonySoprano Says:

I’ll be doing tap dances if we can nab a 2nd rounder for him. Use that on Jack Campbell and you’ll have a consistent, assignment-sound, 6-5 beast that can man the middle, for a fraction of the cost.

It was crystal clear White was only about the money from day 1. When he was drafted, his first comment was he wanted to be the highest paid LB in history. Devin has always been more concerned with bettering his bank account, not his craft. He hasn’t improved one iota since the SB run. Good f’ing riddance.

  61. Alanbucsfan Says:

Could this be be Buc player(s) F’ing with Jenna Laine over the Gio Bernard incident last year?

  62. Davenport Says:

He thinks he is far better than he is and that won’t change. Dump him.

  63. SB~LV Says:

    Jameis of the defense
Can’t even find a horse to ride

  64. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Cmurda

Keep in mind Devin White is on the last year of his rookie contract and wants to sign the largest deal an ILB has ever signed.

So the compensation is going to be less than desired. If he was on the 2nd year of his rookie deal then that would probably be a different story.

  65. ChrisBuc23 Says:

He hasn’t played anywhere near how he did our Super Bowl year. And that ravens game still lingers in my mind heavily because boy he got owned that game by a rookie center. He needs to shut up and be more consistent and let the play do the talking.

  66. Duane Says:

Hard to figure out why White would demand a trade now. It makes little sense. He has no power to force anything. He is more or less guaranteed a starter’s spot on the roster. He’s playing with a great teammate as the other ILB. The defense was a little better than average last season (ranked #13), and there are good reasons to believe it will be better in 2023, so it is not as if he is stuck playing on a loser team. And by demanding a trade while still on a rookie contract is not a good look as far as other teams are concerned – makes him look like a prima donna, and who wants that in their lockerroom?

  67. BucsFan81 Says:

If he doesn’t want to be a team player and wants out trade him. We can just replace him in the draft and have David train a new guy to play next to him. White hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire with his play the last few years.

  68. Clay Says:

Anyone can debate his skills, praise or loathe his character. The simple truth is the Bucs would love to give him a lavish contract, with no funds to offer. Let him hold out, fine the horseshit out of him.

  69. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

    He has greatly overvalued himself.

  70. K_bassuka Says:

And the Baker Mayfield destroyer of teams initiative has been activated. I told y’all that Mayfield will destroy the team.

  71. Geno711 Says:

Would love to trade White for either the 36th pick that the Rams have or the 38th of the Raiders. Don’t think we get a 1st for him.

  72. Geno711 Says:

And the Baker Mayfield destroyer of teams initiative has been activated. I told y’all that Mayfield will destroy the team.

Except if you read behind the story, White was suggesting this might be happening before Baker. Duh.

Whites tweet on March 6th. Baker signed on March 15th.

  73. BucaneroJim Says:

@Richard Dickson… you might consider a Jake Carmada jersey this year. Might be the only safe bet.

  74. Bucamania Says:

I’m good with it if they can get a first.

  75. Doctor_Berto Says:

    Geno, we aren’t getting a second either…

  76. Pewter Power Says:

LD was a second round and one of the best buc players in it’s history sure bet for ring of honor. I knew it would be drama as soon as he said he wanted to be a 100mil player. Personally I think he can be replaced in the draft plus gives up cap space and draft picks

    bye Felicia

  77. Mike Johnson Says:

trade him for cash and a 2nd rd pick. We are not going anywheres this year anyway.

  78. Alan Wadsworth Says:

Dudes bad ass. Y’all don’t understand football! He’s a middle linebacker he doesn’t cover tight ends! He shoots gaps better than anyone in the league. He disrupts backfields! Pay him!

  79. Crickett Baker Says:

Perhaps it was constant negative comments from the “fans” that made him want to leave instead of improve, here.

  80. Bucfan1988 Says:

DW45 maybe showed his true colors last year. Talks way too much and doesn’t back it up…

Has decent stats but something rubs me the wrong way about hun. Seems like he’s a me-first kinda player..

    Draft before the draft…
Won’t get a 1st, but I’m thinking 2nd and maybe 4th if a team falls in love with him… Hmmmm, perhaps Chicago Bears since losing Roquan ??

  81. Bucfan1988 Says:

    Trade b4 draft I mean…

  82. 80forBrady Says:

Middle linebacker is a “trade”. Too bad White never had the discipline to learn it.
Not a team player. Takes plays off. Gets “bored” easily on defense.

Trade him for a 2nd rounder and another player.

In the words of George (Sulu) Takei to William (Captan Kirk) Shatner
“F* you and the Horse you road in on!”

  83. SlyPirate Says:

    REWATCH THE BALTIMORE GAME

White was so lost. A total liability. I don’t get what happened to him from one year to the next. Bowles called him out during the game and he is still emotionally hurt?

    Move on.

  84. Kgh4life Says:

The problem is that he has no trade value at the moment, especially after last season. I don’t even think the Bucs can get a 4th rounder. I 6

  85. ChattBucsFan Says:

If he doesn’t want to be here then we have to move on. Won’t miss his inability to cover TE’s or RB’s and his annoying celebrations after every 5 yard gain. Hope we can get something for him.

  86. K_bassuka Says:

    @Geno711
Except if you read behind the story, White was suggesting this might be happening before Baker. Duh.

Whites tweet on March 6th. Baker signed on March 15th.

Oh, that’s why the players have shown the uncontainable excitement because the “great” leader Mayfield was signed right?

  87. Buc king Says:

    Trade him for 2nd 3rd pick… he’s completely overrated..
One track minded..can’t get big qb down..
Horrible in coverage..misses tackles and leads poorly..he’s a rah rat guy and not a killer…
Lb are a dime a dozen squeeze 2 or 3 picks out of him n wish him well.

  88. Tvan101 Says:

Rather get a draft pick then pay a guy who can’t cover 100m. Not to mention most of his run stopping is 5 yards past the line of scrimmage and his sideline to sideline speed seemed to be lacking last year.

  89. Mike C Says:

    What a punk!

  90. Mike C Says:

Always knew he was an arrogant me first guy.

I am ok with an open competition. Are you oddly some Trask lover over Baker? Not, sure why if you are.

  92. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Trade (LB/DE) Montez Sweat for (LB) Devin White

  93. K_bassuka Says:

    @Geno711

There is no open competition and the Bucs are acting as if Baker is the next great thing when they should treat him like what he is a 1st overall draft bust and a faliure on a prove it deal.

There’s been too much coverage on garbage Baker which can’t sit well with the players looking for a contract because to them it’s as simple as more coverage = more popularity = more money and Barker hasn’t done anything to deserve the coverage.

  94. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Pro Football Focus ratings and grades of the top 3 Linebackers in 2022:

    Bobby Wagner = 90.7 = A
    Fred Warner = 85.7 = A
    Lavonte David = 85.1 = A

And then you have Devin White
    Devin White = 45.7 = F

No hate from PFF, just facts and data.

  95. LakelandSteve Says:

    Who’s Devin White?

  96. 97 bucBaby Says:

    Let that bum goooooooooooooooo

  97. chark Says:

to those who think we wont get much for him. 80% respondents said yes to trade him for a 2nd or 3rd on one of the raiders website..sb nat ion. WE need more chum in the water. He is a commodity, many teams will feel they can coach out his bad habits. His abilities physically are elitish. Has good trade value

  98. Stormy Says:

If he thinks he’s getting 100 mil, he’s nuts. No one is paying him that. Additionally, the Bucs hold all the cards here. He’s under contract for 2023. If he holds out and doesn’t show, then he still owes them a year.

If he does, great. The Bucs can apply the same tag that Baltimore used on Lamar Jacskson. If someone offers, take the 2 1sts or match.

    DW45 has ZERO leverage.

  99. Winky Says:

    LOL

Nice photo. How media of you lol

    Oyy

  100. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

He spends more time posing than playing. See ya.

  101. Aleyz2020 Says:

Only one other person with a bigger ego than his, Jerry Jones! Maybe he can be a “Rhinestone Cowgirl”!!!

  102. garro Says:

    Yeah get your money dude!

    Tongue firmly in cheek.

Idiot just blew any future he might have had in Bucsland

  103. BillyBucco Says:

Whoever is giving this guy advice needs to be booted 1st.
This is absolutely the worst time since the day he was drafted to request this.
NOBODY deserves that kind of money for playing ILB, and NOTHING about his recent play says he will get half that.
LVD actually made his stats look better IMO.

Now I will say that he is better suited in a 4-3 and he knows it.
Reason is you point him and shoot and his speed is there.
When you ask him to think, you should probably ask his horse instead and that is why he will NEVER get paid like he wants.

I mean even thinking he is worth that much shows the problem.

  104. Statguy Says:

Trade him for Eckler who wants out of chargers
