Analyst Claims Will Levis Is No Kyle Trask Upgrade

April 7th, 2023

“I’m not buff like Will, though.”

If you think Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is ready to pull the trigger on drafting University of Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, an analyst for Sharp Football Analysis believes you should think again.
Ryan McCrystal says Levis isn’t much of an upgrade from Kyle Trask, if he’s an upgrade at all.

So McCrystal is convinced Licht won’t draft Levis because Levis is basically Trask without the three NFL completions in two years.

Well, the big difference between Levis and Trask is that Levis is all rocked up. Joe has read a lot of NFL types suggesting that’s bad for a quarterback. (Remember when Chucky, as coach of the Bucs, told Brady Quinn he wouldn’t draft him because he was too buff?)

Trask isn’t jacked like Levis.

Joe isn’t saying Trask is Levis. Maybe his college stats were similar but isn’t Levis pretty mobile? Trask is more of a dropback quarterback.

  1. Dooley Says:

If you could put them both together you’d have Josh Allen lol

  2. sasquatch Says:

Levis has a stronger arm, maybe moves a little better. Everything else is a mystery. He’s no slam dunk and not a guaranteed upgrade over Trask. Hooker looks a lot more promising.

  3. sasquatch Says:

I don’t want a QB who spends all his time trying get jacked. Get in the film room and use the TB12 method!

  4. Beej Says:

The GOAT looks like he’d be hard pressed to do a pull-up, but he could throw the ball 60 yards through the air

  5. Redeemer Says:

Go look at Brady’s combine tape. He’s doughy, to put it mildly. I know it’s an extreme example. Same for Montana, he was never ripped. I could go on. The tall, slightly out of shape dropback passer will never go extinct. I know it’s all the rage to have a guy that can run around, but I will always take the guy who is smart, tall and can read a defense. The release point is also key. All the best high point at the tip of the delivery. My old coach uz to say the index finger should be the last on the ball. Big hands help too.

  6. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

If Ryan McCrystal is correct about bad QBs being ripped or Jacked, then this gives us hope that Trask being the opposite should be going to the Pro Bowl this year.

  7. Joe Swanson Says:

I am pretty sure he will be gone long before we select at 19. I am sure if he gets by tbe colts and raiders the titans will select Will.

  8. LOL Says:

Kyle Trasks ceiling is Mac Jones…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. LOL

  9. SlyPirate Says:

    STUPID TAKE
65.7% completion, 5K yards, 43 TD – 23 INT. He can play QB.
6’4, 230lbs, +10″ hands. He has great size.

“He’s in too good of shape to play QB.” said no legit scout ever.

I’d take him in a heartbeat if the Bucs didn’t desperately need a new OL.

  10. MadMax Says:

    No!

  11. Geno711 Says:

I trust that the coaching staff has seen enough of Trask to determine that he is very unlikely the guy.

But in truth, Trask has not started enough games for people to know what he can do.

In high school, he only started games as a freshman. He was not a starter for most of his high school career.
In college, he started 22 games. Well short of the 30 that Bill Parcell’s indicates you need to properly evaluate a college QB.

No starts in the Pros. So, there is some 5 to 10 percent chance once he gets actually starts and playing time, he will get it.

But when comparing to Will Levis. Levis only has 24 starts in college. Against Mississippi with the Kentucky down by 3 with 58 seconds left. 1st and goal from the 8 yard line. Kentucky called a time out. On 1st down, illegal motion. Repeat 1st down from the 13 yard line. Levis was strip sacked but worse yet, it was not a simple clean blind side strip sack, it was one where Levis was running backward to avoid the rush and happened 13 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Just a big dope play.

    Don’t want Levis.

He is not ready for the big time and has shown nothing in this off season to suggest that he has improved there.

Rather would wait and take someone like Clayton Tune who has been steadily improving in this three years of starting at Houston. Not as a starter for the Bucs but as a good depth piece that you can get in the 6th or 7th round. He can be a solid backup for your organization for lots of years.

  12. Steven007 Says:

Big Ben was a doughboy too. And pre-draft a lot of pundits were comparing Kyle to Big Ben, minus the big arm.

  13. Bucluck Says:

I believe that Trask has an advantage over most quarterbacks that are brought in, 2 years learning behind Brady in practice, film room , taking care of his body will pay off. Give this guy a chance.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

No one will accuse Brad Johnson or Tom Brady of being buffed up.

I’d like to see what Trask can do.

  15. Duane Says:

There is no quarterback in the 2023 draft that has equal or significantly better college stats than Kyle Trask – who after all led the entire nation in passing yards and passing touchdowns and TD/INT ratio, while leading his team to the SEC East Championship.

So, it comes down to what is a team looking for in a quarterback? Stats are only one small element.

  16. Bobby M. Says:

Probably get Trey Lance from San Francisco for a 2nd rd pick….Still young, mobile on rookie deal.

  17. Browsing from DC Says:

If they don’t fix the o line it’s all moot. None of these guys (Trask, Mayfield or Levis) could do what Brady did last year, get rid of the ball in under 3 seconds. Less than 3 seconds for this bunch means sacks, picks, incompletes, etc. And don’t start with the “mobility” stuff. Where you gonna run when the pocket is collapsing all sides?

Another failed “jacked” QB….Tim Tebow. Remember him? Lol

Fix the o line and I’m comfortable with Mayfield or Trask if the ground game improves as well. We’re gonna miss Lenny. If he’s still out there after the draft and will take a pay cut, Bucs would be fools not to find a way to make the numbers work.

  18. JD Still Says:

Mobile quarterbacks who like to run a lot get hurt a lot and retire early.

  19. Craig Says:

Only buff QB that I remember is David Carr, and we know how that worked.

Jalen Hurts is a power lifter, but that is a different breed of beast.

Will Levis would be a project, he is rough around the edges and could, maybe, end up like Josh Allen. But Josh Allen was an outlier too, so maybe not.

Trask is who we have and though I expect a lot from him, I can see why others aren’t as positive. Just ask yourself who would throw a rookie in front the Brady Bandwagon

  20. Implosion Says:

Always clowning Trask using that pic of him lol

  21. Hodad Says:

I couldn’t agree more, he’s no upgrade. Trask’s last year was better than anything Levis has done in the SEC. This new offense doesn’t require cannon arm. Just get the ball out on time to the play makers. Less risk it, more biscuit.

  22. Goatfarmer Says:

There will be at least two more QBs in camp, of the 90 players that will Abe brought in. They’re needed to keep all the excess skill guys busy.

Bowels has to win. By definition there will be a FAIR COMPETITION and if not Bowels digs his own grave before he’s even accomplished his fifth losing season in a row.

    Results matter.

  23. Oneilbuc Says:

Sly . Kyle Trask numbers were waay better than that Kyle Trask had 43 touchdowns and 8 picks in one season and all people do is criticize him. So what makes you think he would be a quarterback for the bucs??

  24. catcard202 Says:

OMG, Levis too jack…Blah Blah Blah.

Dude #ElectroSwole using TacticalXabs last couple months & took pics immediately after a workout. (Sticky pad marks show in his back shots).

Showed up at Combine 3Lbs lighter than his 232 playing weight (229)…& 15lbs lighter than AR at same height.(244)

Levis looks almost identical in stature/build as Troy Aikman coming out of UCLA….IE…I have no worries he’ll proceed to be Tim Tebow stiff throwing a football in the NFL.

  25. Bradinator Says:

23 INTs in college worries me. Don’t care much about the other fluff there. Jacked/not Jacked, who cares? Can this dude lead an NFL team? Just wasn’t a lot of hype about this guy before this year. I feel the same about Richardson, too many unknowns to take these guys in Round 1. No one considered them 1st rounders last year like the 2 QBs that go before pick 5. They would’ve gone in Round one last year. Hendon Hooker was one people knew about. There is a reason for that. I’m not sold on Levis or Richardson. I know running QBs are vogue right now, but when was the last time one of those guys won a SB?

  26. Tucker Says:

I like what Geno said Tune in the late rounds seems like the smart move to me don’t even like Levis as a project and I hope to the universe they do not draft Hooker who seems like as someone else perfectly put it fools gold draft to patch holes and reevaluate QB position for next year’s draft if you still need on after the season.

I trust that the coaching staff has seen enough of Trask to determine that he is very unlikely the guy.“

I stopped reading after this sentence. This is not what the organization has said. We all knew they would bring in a vet. Do you really think baker mayfield is the answer or anyone in the league thinks he is a capable starter? Did you see how much he signed for? Come on now. Baker thinks he’s starting but he’s the only person outside of a few fans. The draft and training camp will tell us a lot, but until trask starts a few games we will never know what we have in him.

  28. BUCman Says:

Trask is far superior to Levis as a Quarterback! Not to mention Levis is a narcissist. Big pass!

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

Posey 99 . I agree with bro I look at the same way you do no one knows what Trask is. No one has actually facts on him being bad or good so I don’t know how anyone can say he suck without real proof. Why not just wait and see what he has and stead of just bashing the guy every time his name or picture comes up. Your opinion about Trask is not facts it’s a opinion and you can’t make your opinion a fact without seeing him play.

  30. Allbuccedup Says:

This guy is a dork probably never even thrown a football.

  31. Goatfarmer Says:

Osqueelerbutt – Trask’s college stats get you all excited. That’s a correlation to NFL success about 25% of the time or less for top 10 picks. Your problem should be with people evaluating Trask in the Bucs organization. They just worked with the best to ever do it, so they would never recognize if some else is ready. They, not the fans, decide . But I’m sure they’d love to have you on the staff. Just send them links to all your JBF posts. Great resume’ .

  32. Oneilbuc Says:

Goofarmer. Brady is not the best to ever do it maybe with the bucs . And that’s because he didn’t get drafted to the bucs and that’s why he became a good quarterback. Plus everyone knows that the Patriots has been cheating and we don’t know how long they been doing it. If Brady is your best quarterback than Barry Bond is the best batter in the history of MLB. But look how stupid you sound and next year you are hoping we draft Caleb Williams or Drake May and all you have is what they done in college.lol lol 🤣🤣🤣

  33. garro Says:

Joe have you ever counted the number of people no on has ever heard of with no real credentials that you toss out to us as believable?

  34. Scott Says:

Tank the season draft Caleb Williams next season and bucs will be back

  35. Oneilbuc Says:

Scott. Tanking ain’t never worked out for the bucs and plus only losers tank. Bad organizations and loser fan bases believe in tanking!!

  36. Mike S Says:

SlyPirate 23 INTs is way too high to be anything but a second or third day project.

  37. steele Says:

Levis is erratic. Rocked up or jello, you don’t want erratic.

  38. JimbobBucsFan Says:

That picture in itself is enough to make some fans not want Trask to succeed in becoming our “franchise QB”. LOL! Jameis Winston at least looked great for a while.

  39. David Says:

    Joe,
You keep utilizing the same photo of Trask in locker room to make a clown figure out of him. That tells us why you keep posting negative articles on him. LOL.

  40. Joe Says:

You keep utilizing the same photo of Trask in locker room to make a clown figure out of him.

Don’t see a damn thing wrong with that photo. No clue why folks are triggered by that.
