A.Q. Shipley Hints That Robert Hainsey Might Be Ready To Flip To Right Guard

March 15th, 2023

Starting guard?

Yesterday, Bucs center (guard?) Robert Hainsey made a special guest appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, even though he wasn’t scheduled.

McAfee, the former Colts punter, College GameDay co-host, rasslin’ personality and sports media sensation had his old buddy and former Bucs center and assistant offensive line coach A.Q. Shipley on the show.

There, McAfee started ribbing Shipley that he was getting lazy because he was doing his weekly hit with McAfee poolside. Then Shipley turned the camera around to show someone doing squats behind a pane of glass.

Immediately, McAfee started yelling, “HAINSEY!”

Shipley is Hainsey’s personal offensive line coach and trainer. Hainsey goes to Arizona where Shipley is based to work out.

So McAfee asked Shipley if Hainsey was working to maybe play guard since Shaq Mason got traded and Ryan Jensen is back. Shipley sounded as if that’s the plan because, he said, there are openings at the guard positions with the Bucs.

You can see the video of Shipley and Hainsey below. Joe thinks this makes a ton of sense that Hainsey will just flip to one of the guard positions and it’s no surprise.

    Good stuff, thank you Joes!

  2. Zacharie Mulharan Says:

    Better work on his calves.

  3. Allbuccedup Says:

Its his third year he should be ready.

  4. HC Grover Says:

Bucs will need a QB that can run around for his life.

  5. Kgh4life Says:

    Goedeke should train with Shipley.

  6. Dooley Says:

Always beyond stupid comments offering nothing.

  8. Hodad Says:

Bucs need to draft a center to back up, and than replace Jensen. Would rather have a true center drafted, than have to shuffle the line when Jensen is out. Find a Jensen Jr. in the mid rounds.

  9. adam from ny Says:

i would think they’d slot him in between wirfs and jensen on whatever side they decide wirfs will play this year…

and the other side…i’m thinking the right side of jensen has stinnie at guard and goedeke at tackle…

like this: from left to right:

    wirfs, hainsey, jensen, stinnie, goedeke

  10. Dooley Says:

    ^^^
You cannot leave Nick Leverett out of the equation, either G spot is his to lose imo

  11. Dooley Says:

    lol G spot

  12. Gofortheface30 Says:

“Better work on his calves.” – huge eyeroll. Just amazes me that literally 99% of the population know little to nothing in regards to exercise, the human body, genetics, performance, etc etc. And it grinds my gears how many people fixate on something that plays no role in anything. People with big legs below the knees down to their ankles are slow, plodding, unexplosive, useless. Usually built like a stack of pancakes. CANKLES are not even attractive aesthetically. 99.9999% of elite athletes have long Achilles tendons with high set calves and small ankles. College football scouts even at these things. Development of actual calves mean Jack squat. Strength/power comes from butt/core/hamstrings/quads. Quick twitch/explosion comes from Achilles/ankle/type 2 fibers

  13. A Bucs Fan Says:

Good to see him hitting the weights… He needs to get a lot stronger in the run game. This past season he had zero push off the ball.

  14. MadMax Says:

Hmmm…who backs him up, and who backs Goedeke at RT if Wirfs is LT (which is looking like thats going to happen)…Lev at LG.

So we have Stinnie and someone else, cant think of his name….oh Molchon.

And we’re gonna need a backup Center or RG if Hainsey is the backup again….

    oh boy, smdh!

    Goedeke’s scouting report:
“Goedeke’s lack of length (32″ arms) will kick him into guard, but he can thrive on the interior.”
“32 1/4″ arms just won’t cut it at tackle. Defenders lived inside his pads and attacked his outside shoulder.”

Does that sound like a Right Tackle, MadMax?

  16. pewter941 Says:

Our only needs are offensive tackle, linebacker and safety. Get some in free agency, and draft best player available. Sign David, Logan, Edwards and Gholston. With a good draft, it wont be to hard to have a better roster than last years.

  17. WhosOurQB Says:

Good .. and a bigger Goedeke/healed Stinnie at LG and draft OT in Round 1 or 2

  18. MadMax Says:

We trade down to 29 or so, grab O’Cyrus Torrence or Tyler Steen.

  19. MadMax Says:

No it doesnt Joe. But what do we do? I guess target a RT in the draft or FA…

  20. WhosOurQB Says:

@pewter941 w/a good draft it wouldn’t be harder to have a better roster …. but lol QB is definitely one of our only needs, our biggest need

  21. MadMax Says:

Steve Avila in the 2nd….can play RT and both G positions….theres our versatility we’ll need. And guess what Joeinmich, 33″ arms

  22. MadMax Says:

That means we lose a chance at TE or RB/returner or Hooker.

  23. Dooley Says:

    @Mad Max

There’s always day 2 for a TE, and if it we aren’t going after Tyjae Spears there’s no need to draft an RB lol

  24. pewter941 Says:

@whosourqb i realized i left the qb out after i left the comment, But Brady only played ok last year. He was a scared statue.

  25. MadMax Says:

Ok, Ive got it figured out….(btw, Avila also played Center)

Trade down from 19…acquire as much as possible
use lower round picks to trade up as much as possible

three 2nd rd picks and one in the 3rd

    D Washington
    H Hooker
    D Achane
    Steve Avila

(sorry D guys, we’ll hit that side hard next year)

  26. MadMax Says:

Dooley, Achane is a game changer…and also a returner which we’ve never had luck at.

  27. Jon Grudin Says:

Bucs should bring back AQ Shipley to coach up the o line.

  28. WhosOurQB Says:

@pewter941 Brady did play soft last year. Hey maybe we can get Karen Rogers to run us for a lizard, a corn cob, ab, some shoots, and his own darkness suite at 1 Buc

  29. WhosOurQB Says:

Shoot not shoots for aaron Poe

  30. WhosOurQB Says:

    I mean shrooms lolol

  31. WhosOurQB Says:

Darn auto spell correct …anyway here’s to hoping Licht can continue to fill the holes the entire rest of our team this off-season and then we’d only be a QB away

  32. Joe in Michigan Says:

MadMax: I’m for the flip side of that, draft DEFENSE and an OT on the 1st and 2nd days.

  33. Pryda…Sec147 Says:

I love this for AQ hopefully Hainsey really blossoms and AQ can get a whole business out of this good dude

  34. MadMax Says:

Well Joe, we need help on the scoring side of the ball. And dont get me wrong, im watching D prospects too…but our biggest weakness last year was scoring, even though we had the GOAT (which a lot of it fell on him).

Brady gave up, you could see it. I think Lenny gave up too along with our LT D Smith, and of course NO GRONK and two startes and a new guy on the O line…they just werent the same after that SB win….it happens. I mean look at the Rams lol.

  35. SOEbuc Says:

If anything that means starting experience at center in a good depth situation. Ali played every inside OL position and was capable to step in at any point. TO EVERYONE THAT WANTS TO MOVE WIRFS TO THE LEFT, Ali at RG was his best position spot, not to say he wasn’t very good at other positions, but was amazing his early years at RG.

He was a great Left Guard, too.

  37. Mike Says:

Hainsey would be a solid Guard, but yeah, I agree with above posters that he needs to get much stronger in the run game.

  38. Joe in Michigan Says:

MadMax: What do you think about some of the edge rushers this year? The explosive ones, not the Nelson/Nassib clones (those guys are good, but the Bucs need a guy with bend, flying off the edge).

  39. My Momma Says:

My Momma says to put Goedeke at RG since he said it was challenging for him to switch to the left side when he played RT.in college. If he has to fill in, he can play RT when needed since he’s more accustomed to playing on the right side. My Momma points out when the Bucs tried him at RT for the Falcons game.

  40. MadMax Says:

Joe… Foskey or Murphy at the end of the first if we traded back and they were still there, I’d take that scenario if thats the way we were going.

  41. steele Says:

What will be most important will be Jensen back at 100% at center. Then figure out where to play Wirfs. The rest is flux, backups and JAGs. Stinnie’s best work was at RG, and he showed capability in his starts in the SB run. I am not a fan of “soft but technical” Hainsey, but he, Leverett and Walton are all that are left. “Versatile”…backups. They’ll have to make some moves in the draft or sign another veteran to plug the holes that haven’t been plugged since they lost pieces of the formerly great OL.

  42. garro Says:

Umm yeah…that’s kind of a no Brainer to me
