Chris Godwin Finishes Comeback Season In Style

January 8th, 2023

Chris Godwin

Joe hoped all spring and summer that Bucs receiver Chris Godwin would accomplish what Cooper Kupp did in 2019.

Godwin got the job done, Joe believes.

Kupp was coming off a blown ACL suffered during the 2018 season, but his occurred a handful of weeks earlier than Godwin’s did in 2021 — late October versus early December.

Kupp managed to be ready for opening day of 2019 and he hit the ground running, finishing with 94 catches for 1,161 yards and 10 touchdowns as his Los Angeles Rams went 9-7 and missed the playoffs.

Godwin wrapped up his stellar comeback effort today against Atlanta with 6 catches for 55 yards before the Bucs parked him on the bench with many other starters. Godwin’s final numbers are 104 catches for 1,033 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Joe won’t do the research today, but is Godwin the first guy to ever blow an ACL in December and come back to catch 100 passes in the following season?

Joe sure would bet on it. And Godwin even missed Weeks 2 and 3 with a hamstring injury.

So impressive. And Godwin’s steady improvement (minus two fumbles in the past two weeks) is a great sign as the Bucs enter the playoffs.

Last week, Mike Evans lobbied for Godwin as NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Joe’s down.

Even going to be better next year.

  2. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I didn’t like to see another fumble from him though. He did have a very good year for a guy coming back from a serious knee injury.

    fumbling in style?

    I kid… sort of.

  4. Fire the Gannons! Says:

Thank you very much Todd Bowles! Now the GOAT can leave this franchise and go wherever he wants, including the slimy Saints, without any repercussions to his legacy. Toilet Bowles denies him the chance to maintain his perfect streak of winning seasons spanning 23 years as well as his perfect 11-0 record against the Falcons. If that doesn’t piss off someone beyond repair nothing ever will.

Good bye Tampa! Good bye Toilet Bowles! (and Arians for repeatedly throwing him under the bus over the last 3 years) My guess now is that he goes to New Orleans just to give a giant middle finger to Tampa next year.

I, for one, will be loving every moment of that Disem-bowles-ment (the “s” is silent).

    Fire the Gannons …

Tell us you’re not a Bucs fan without telling us you’re not a Bucs fan …

  6. richbucsfan Says:

Ball control seems to be a recurring issue.

30-17 Falcons. Sure would have been nice to see Trask practice and play with the first team offense. But, no, it’s Brady and then Gabbert. So Bucs win the Division with a 8-9 record. I will be glad when Brady is gone.

  8. Tye Says:

WoW!… 2 years of studying, practicing and to prepare and Trask BLEW his debute!

  9. orlbucfan Says:

    Gabbert, too.

  10. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Yeah, unfortunately Trask was butt-awful in his time on the field. Arm looks like a noodle.

  11. Jack Clark Says:

Thanks for the positivity Joe, I couldn’t stop thinking about Godwin turning the ball over

  12. Frank Pillow Says:

14 is the best football player on the team

  13. Infomeplease Says:

Loosing Hainsey and as usual, the predictable play calling by BL did in this game!!! CG did his part. Good to see 2 receivers with 1000 yards.

The best part about this loss is that nobody will expect very much from the Bucs!!! And if the play calling doesn’t change they will be right!!

  14. geno711 Says:

Godwin has a certain skillset for this team that no one else has.

Can’t imagine these Bucs without either Godwin or Evans.

  15. The Beer Whisperer Says:

55 yards receiving, and 1 fumble. Not exactly Hall of Fame numbers.
But, we sound the trumpet, anyhow.

  16. The Beer Whisperer Says:

    Godwin ain’t $60 million good.
He has the Bucs bent over a barrel.

  17. brooks Says:

Hes ok not earned it yet. Fumbles way to much. Lets wait Nother year before we get excited

  18. Goatfarmer Says:

There are some certified hydrocephalitics on this site. Godwin is one of the few Bucs Todd Blowes hasn’t ruined yet. He is the best player on offense other than Tom, hence why Tom goes to him so frequently. Some of you morons should apply for a job on Blowes staff. He can use some additional dimwittery.
