Will Todd Bowles Prevail?

December 2nd, 2022

New Orleans QB Andy Dalton.

Consider this a clash of strengths.

Now Joe would never suggest having Andy Dalton as a Bucs quarterback, but Dalton does seems to shine in one area. That’s when facing the blitz. Uh, oh.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles is a master of exotic blitzes. And Bowles is very aggressive — with his defense — and dials up all sorts of blitzes all the time. Given how Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett is out for the year, Bowles likely blitzes more to cover for Shaq’s void.

But if Dalton lights up blitzes, is Bowles walking into a trap? Well, that’s something that should not be ignored, types Derrik Klassen of Football Outsiders.

In the end, however, Klassen thinks Bowles and the Bucs will get the best of Dalton on Monday night because, well, he’s Andy Dalton.

Dalton’s year against the blitz has been impressive, but this is the exact kind of game that could bring him down to earth. Bowles is no joke and even guys such as Aaron Rodgers have aired their frustrations about how difficult it is to deal with his Bucs defense. Look for Bowles to do everything in his power to heat up the pocket against Dalton and make him prove his stats are legit against a real-deal blitz team.

Joe honestly is not worried about the Bucs defense. Rather, Joe is worried about the offense. The Bucs are now seven straight games scoring 22 or less points a game.

This is the NFL. If you cannot score more than 22 points, you are setting yourself up to fail, that’s all there is to it.

Joe honestly is not worried about the Bucs defense.

    ———-

You’re missing Winfield and Mike Edwards and SMB and you’re not worried? I am.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Well to clarify, I agree, I’m much more worried about the offense, but if Bowles can’t keep the Saints 9 points or less, we don’t have a chance.

  3. EEK Says:

this D has a way of elevating average to below average QBs

hard to have confidence that Dalton won’t pop off a run of 3rd down conversions late to induce further vomiting

  4. NEfan Says:

I didn’t read the article and my answer us NO! Munch you forgot Shaq.

  5. captivajim Says:

without Edwards, Winfield & SMB out –it will be difficult to hold them to 9 pts..Dalton’s been around for awhile–he’s seen a lot of blitzes…

  6. JeffreyLane77 Says:

It’s certainly not a battle of wits. Lol

  7. Beej Says:

My impression is we’re more likely to beat good teams than bad teams

  8. LVMYBUCS Says:

I could care less win or lose I need this clown show coaches gone.

  9. Marine Buc Says:

I don’t believe Andy Dalton is that much worse than Jacoby Brissett and New Orleans has a better defense than Cleveland.

    You remember Cleveland – right?

  10. D-Rok Says:

The only way we win this game, with how the O has been playing, is if Todd the DC crafts something special and our D dominates. Something to the tune of 4 sacks, a turnover or 2, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Still my team, though, and I’ll be rooting for them to begin to turn their season around.

    GO BUCS!!!

  11. Kentucky Buc Says:

Who is more incompetent ? Both DCs got jobs handed to them that they obviously shouldn’t have gotten.

  12. ElioT Says:

I’ve been a fan of this team for way too long not to see that this will be another disappointing, embarrassing loss at home in Prime Time. #denofdepression

  13. PSL Bob Says:

    Ditto what Marine Buc said!

  14. PSL Bob Says:

If we lose this game and Atlanta beats the Steelers, we’re doomed. We should win, but Bowles has got to have a serious sit-down with BL and tell him to pull out all the stops. Full speed ahead. Give Brady the green light. We cannot continue with the same predictable and ineffective screens and runs up the middle if we want to win this game.

  15. ClwJB Says:

Better get Ryan back asap – if Winfield and Edwards are down Sunday OMG

SMB is no loss at all, kid is a bust – what has he done since the fluke playoff run? Not a darn thing but get beat like a cheap rug

The D is very concerning with Neal and Delaney manning the S spots – ugly!!!

  16. BucU Says:

This team is not beating the Saints Monday night.
I think it’s been proven that Bowles, Leftwich and the rest of this staff are simply bad NFL coaches.
What more do we need to see? I’m not going thru any more of this garbage and I couldn’t care less whether they win or lose. With this current incompetent coaching staff they will crush what optimism you have left in you. When they lose Monday they’ll be 5-7.
Then they fly to San Fran on a short week. That’s 5-8. Then the Bengals are going to annialate them next. That’s 5-9 and game over.

  17. firethecannons Says:

Yeah not thinking Todd Bowles is capable of winning this game and our team is not motivated to play for a fraud. Any coach that says he would not call a time out because of a chance of an interception by the GOAT who has only 2 int on the year will not have a chance of influencing his team. Bowles lost the game against the Browns, he’ll do it again.

  18. NEfan Says:

BA is a mad genius. This is his way of sabotaging Brady so he can claim the SB victory was all his doing. A page right from the Belichick book.

  19. sasquatch Says:

Lose for draft position and getting Bowles canned.

  20. Vern Newsome Says:

Bowles might blitz on Sunday but will he blitz when needed. Do you remember fourth quarter of last week game just before the Browns scored. We rush four and played seven in coverage and gave the QB all the time he needed to find the TE. Enough Said.

  21. Sheen Says:

When is the last time we swept the Saints? Has it ever happened… after last weekend idk if I can sit through another, especially a night game.

  22. Dom>Licht Says:

We have lost to Mitch Trubiski, Brissett and FREAKING P Walker … Bucs have made back up QBs look great for years!

  23. PassingThru Says:

Bowles is an absolute idiot. His continuous blitzing of Stafford during the playoffs gave the Rams an early lead. When he stopped, the Rams attack stalled and the Bucs crept back into the game. Then came that last idiotic blitz that led the the Rams victory.

Arians recommended this fool to improve his own legacy.

  24. Tye Says:

Bowles is the bottom of the barrel!
Him prevail WILL ONLY HAPPEN if Arians or Brady comes to his rescue…

  25. Davenport Says:

    Bowles doesn’t need to prevail.

With BA in his corner and the Glazers not interested in accountability, just money, he will get a pass for the year amd the BS will continue into 2023.

I pray that i am wrong.

  26. Redeemer Says:

D-Rok, I said it earlier. The only way they win, is with a couple turnovers and a defensive score. If it’s close in the end, the defense will peter out. We need to win the TOP by at least 10 minutes, get one tuddy, and kick a bunch of field goals. IMO, that’s the only path to victory. 16-13 bucs.

  27. D-Rok Says:

Amen, Redeemer. Now lezz see dem Bucs whoop dat @ss. Or not. Not much confidence, even if we got Tahmmmy.

  28. StretchOMatic Says:

Todd Bowles makes Tony Dungy look like Chris Farley’s Motivational speaker character Matt Foley! I don’t know about you, but I’m also about tired of seeing Leftwich on the sidelines rocking sideways back and forth on each foot like he is crushing grapes for wine. Looks like a dang penguin walking!

  29. HC Grover Says:

Monday will be the tell for the rest of the year. To me the issue is whether or not the coaches have the critical thinking ability to learn from their blunders and make the needed changes.
If they trot out the same old failed prevent game plans and lose then it is time to write them off for the year.

  30. Goatfarmer Says:

    Brian Flores or Eric Bienemy.

  31. firethecannons Says:

    FIRE TODD BOWLES AND LEFTWICH!

We lose this next game and Brady gets hurt thanks to saloon door right tackle backup

Evans tries to make up for a lost season and pulls his hamstring

    Godwin gets a concussion
sorry this is what I see-it is not my fault Bowles and Leftwich dig deeper soon they will bury themselves.
