About The No “1-on-1s” For Tom Brady Chatter

December 2nd, 2022

“It isn’t always this weird around here, Julio.”

Joe is typing this up before it gets blown out of proportion.

And the story starts with a comment Michael Irvin made on ESPN TV.

The Hall of Fame receiver was part of the NFL Network broadcast crew in Germany calling the Bucs-Seahawks game three weeks ago. That means he was in on the private pregame production meeting with Tom Brady.

That’s where the starting quarterback typically shares all kinds of inside dirt to help game broadcasters understand the team and provide their audience with legitimate insight.

More than a week after the Germany game on ESPN, Irvin shared that Brady told him the Bucs don’t do “1-on-1s” in practice during the season and haven’t for about two years.

Irvin said Brady wants to but it doesn’t happen and Irvin said those are critical for a QB to learn more about receivers and to get more in sync.

Bucs playcaller Byron Leftwich was asked about it today and said he doesn’t know if Brady has asked for those 1-on-1 sessions and he also said the offense has been doing 1-on-1s in practice dating back weeks. Brady said today it’s an important balance when it comes to resting players and working hard in practice. Head coach Todd Bowles, when asked about 1-on-1s, said Brady and his receivers get more than enough work.

Joe thinks this is all a steaming pile of silliness.

First, Brady can always ask his receivers to work 1-on-1s and pull a couple of cornerbacks into it after practice. Brady works with players after practice all the time. Second, Joe has no doubt that if Brady asked for 7 minutes of 1-on-1s in practice for example, that he would get it. Who at One Buc Palace would say, ‘No, Tommy.’

Third, per Irvin, Brady hasn’t had these 1-on-1 session for nearly two years. Well, the Bucs offense was the best in the NFL for a hearty chunk of that time. So, if Brady indeed was denied the 1-on-1s for two years, then how valuable are they?

Again, Joe feels all this chatter is a waste of time, though Joe suspects a lot will be made of it in the coming hours.

So, why did Irvin say this, then? That’s my question, and has been since I heard him say it.

    Something smells fishy to me.

Joe is spot on these inside details from the broadcasters, especially the QBs and others they trust. Brady and Romo are very tight and Brady often expresses his frustration through Romo, and Romo absolutely obliterated the offensive play calling. He did in 2020 against KC. He was right and the offensive strategy shortly changed. This was after Bruce went after Brady. Against the Rams this year, he questioned the play calling. He also flat out said White should be getting more carries over Fournette.

Kurt Warner also said something interesting during the broadcast against Seattle. He said Brady wanted a little more play action. He also suggested that Brady wanted to pass more on first down. I always pay attention what these broadcasters say during the game. Brady and Aikman have a good relationship. I wonder what he said to Troy during the production meeting?

I don’t take Irvin too seriously.

  5. 941bucsfan Says:

Lol. Brady barely shows up for practice period… maybe they do 1 on 1s on his “veteran” days… ask that question to the majority of the nfl. No one is doing 1 on 1… easy injuries

The more these coaches give interviews the more apparent it gets to as why the offense is struggling. No one is on the same page and has a clue as to what the other is doing, wants to do or needs to do. I hope I’m wrong and they turn things around BUT I don’t see us winning many more games.

The defense has played well enough all season for a winning record but offense has been an anchor this year. Part of me understands Bowels’ reluctance on Sunday since the offense hadn’t done a thing but punt the entire 4th qrt. Everyone is pointing to not using our time outs as to why we loss but we had the ball twice in OT and did absolutely NOTHING WITH IT! Not that I agree with playing for OT but that has been totally overlooked.

Here’s what you do when you’re a gutless coward like Bowles, and a moronic loser like Leftwich.

When Brady says something, you say ‘yes, that’s a great idea’, and you do it.

    End of story.

The fact these morons think they have the clout to tell Brady no says a ton about how they lack any sort of self awareness. Heck, these two losers coaching this team should be accepting advice from everyone, even the morons that post on this site.

  8. Bucsfan13 Says:

@941. This narrative that Brady doesn’t practice is dumb. The 11 day absence where he missed five practice is so overblown. All of his receivers were injured. He would’ve been throwing to practice players. These guys aren’t even on the team now. Vet days are normal. It’s not like he’s at home watching Netflix. He’s still at the facility. The man is 45 and the team is putting the whole game on his shoulders. He’s on pace for 800 attempts! You ever think his accuracy has suffered because he’s throwing the ball 50x a game.

  9. NEfan Says:

Even the haters like 941 cannot deny Bowels has neutered Brady when it comes to offensive input. This is the exact reason Brady got out of NE. Belichick wants all the credit and Bowles didn’t want Brady to be the face of HIS team. Well Toilet Bowl, you got what you wished for. Brady would do hisnown 1 on 1’s with his WR after practice. 941, he studies film on vet days, Shaq got them, Evan’s, Jones doesn’t mean they aren’t working. This site isn’t for the ignorant.

  10. Reggie Jax Says:

Bowles is not aggressive enough on offense. They had three games this year when they scored their first TD on the final drive of the game. You can’t wait for the last minute to turn the offense loose.

  11. Lamarcus Says:

The only part that hard me do a double take when Brady said The BUCS might not be talented enough to win. Brady actually told Irvin that. The 1 on 1 thing is crap because Brady was praised during the pandemic for practicing at parks and schools. These are NFL players not high schoolers looking to get better

  12. bucs4life Says:

Make no mistake, folks. Bowled and Leftwich WILL make sure that the drills are done how they want, and not how Brady wants. They’re just like Arians. Massively stubborn and peevish. It’s pointless. We had to get rid of the Arians clique if we want to be relevant again this decade.

  13. bucsbrady Says:

    BUCFAN13 AND NEFAN
I want Brady to stay with Bucs if the Bucs would even take him back at this point.
We seem to have similiar takes. First this bad season is Gisele’s fault. Brady and Gisele went to Italy Paris this summer holding hand kissing in public. They were a private yacht I think owned by Miami guy Soler. GISELE even threw Brady a birthday party over in Italy. Everything was good remember the under wear video Gisele took with Brady in the bathroom. Something happened she was even cool with him coming back to play. I have one theory Brady sent a jersey to KELSEY PLUM. Kelsey and Brady met at Aces game. Kelsey already followed Brady on ig. Brady began following her. She said Brady and her looked into each other eyes and they connected. After the jersey thing went viral end of july thats when things starting getting weird. Brady seems like that person to cheat on some one. Brady almost seems indifferent to women at this point. Thats one theory. I have another about Bruce Beal Gisele pressuring Brady to force himself to dolphins. Quickly I think the whole going to dolphins was Gisele’s idea her and Beal. Gisele wanted Brady with the dolphins so they could live in as they say their forever home they were building in Indians creek

  14. adam from ny Says:

yeah the arians clique, without arians running the clique, is like animal house without the dean…

and tommy b is quickly becoming john beluchi…

  15. Goatfarmer Says:

    Brian Flores or Eric Bienemy.

  16. Purplepirate Says:

“Brady seems like that person to cheat on some one.”

Yet it was Gisele who had a “new” boyfriend before the ink on the divorce paperwork was dry.

  17. Mikejp Says:

I wonder if the Bucs is one of the the teams getting the most penalties. Several drives were stalled by penalties.

  18. garro Says:

If you listened to the Broadcast, Irvin didnt get anything right the entire time. So this would be the first time!
