Ryan Succop Making Case For Bucs’ Offensive MVP

December 26th, 2022

Strong season.

Who knew?

On a team with Tom Brady, Julio Jones, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Playoff Lenny, hell, even Tristan Wirfs, Joe would have a hard time not selecting kicker Ryan Succop as the Bucs’ offensive MVP this season.

Yes, a kicker!

The offense, as we all know, has been handcuffed as if Father Dungy was the coach. It’s borderline criminal how bad the offense has fallen off the map since Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians stepped aside.

Succop is having a helluva year. And with the offense playing like it’s in the 1930s, Succop has basically saved the Bucs.

Imagine where the Bucs would be if they had any one of the other stiff kickers who shat on the field the past 10 years or so before Succop was signed in 2020.

Succop booted all four of his field goal attempts for a total of 12 of the Bucs’ 19 points tonight. This included his 40-yard game-winner in overtime.

But that’s how bad the Bucs offense has plummeted. On an offense full of Pro Bowlers including an All-Pro and a future Hall of Fame quarterback, this year’s MVP just might be the damn kicker.

    Yeah exactly, who knew??!!

And he’s not even anything special. He’s super reliable within his limited range. Beyond 50, forget about it.

    sad, but yeah.

Helluva year? They showed his amazing career stats from deep, then they showed this year he was 2 for 6 for 50+ yards, maybe even 40+ I can’t remember. I’ll take a field goal W all day because that’s what we’ve played all year (when we have had the chance).

He’s good but only has warning track power. Trying anything over 50 is a mistake. * Good tidbit of trivia here: Vikings kicker Greg The Leg Joesph who hit the 61 yard game winner vs The Giants was briefly a Buc. The Bucs send good kickers elsewhere…Matt Bryant, Matt Gay-Blade and Greg Joesph. It’s the nature of the position I suppose.

If only our coach knew he isn’t accurate beyond 50.

  7. alaskabuc Says:

Umm, wouldn’t we have pro bowl kicker Matt Gay banging them from 55+?

Disagree 100%. He’s a mixed bag that puts our offense in a unique blender when we have the ball between the opposition 50 and 30 yard line. A complete inability to kick a FG longer than 51 yards is a huge detriment that no other NFL team faces. None. It forces terrible punts or risky 4th down conversions and disrupts play calling on 3rd down where other teams can take 5 yards and get in FG range but we need the 1st down or else.

He has my vote….Succop in…..Boles and Leftwich out….!!!!
