More Evidence Todd Bowles Prefers A Power Running Game Than A Winning/Throwing Game

December 26th, 2022

Power runner.

The Bucs are built to throw long. This is demonstrated time and again when Tom Brady is allowed to run a hurry-up offense or play-action passes.

But that’s not what Bucs coach Todd Bowles wants. Last night on the NBC broadcast, Cris Collinsworth, who meets with all sorts of Bucs types in the days prior to games he calls, said over and over again he couldn’t understand why Bowles won’t unshackle the offense.

Given who Collinsworth talks to, Joe’s guesses Collinsworth talked to Bowles about this and/or someone higher up the food chain with the Bucs. (Bucco Bruce Arians?)

Joe got a lot of feedback on Twitter about how the Bucs pulled Rachaad White, who seemed like he was having a nice game, for Playoff Lenny. It turned out to be a wise move as Playoff Lenny had 162 yards from scrimmage, his Bucs career high.

After the game, Bowles was asked about Playoff Lenny and Bowles admitted his running between the tackles was the motivation.

“He got going early, so it was kind of an inside game because it was more of a power game that way,” Bowles said. “He showed some positive runs even after they were hitting him, so we left him in there for a little while.”

Again, it turned out to be a savvy move. But there you go. Bowles wanted Playoff Lenny in there because he liked his power running.

That’s the style Bowles prefers, the Father Dungy offense. That isn’t what this offense is built to play, and that’s why it struggles so much unless it’s running a hurry-up or play-action.

You know, square peg/round hole?

  1. Bucsfan13 Says:

I told you. Every time they do a sideline interview with Bowles he talked about wanting to run the ball more. I would like to say for those wanting Gabbert to play please Google Taylor Lewan and Gabbert and get back to me. Also, take a look at Blaine’s career stats. It’s Brady or bust. I’ll take my chances with an injured Brady.

  2. Bee Says:

The OL has so many back-ups Brady doesn’t really have time to get the ball down the field. But we should do more hurry up FFS

  3. Larrd Says:

Seems like power running teams should also throw long.

Bowles is terrible. I like him, but he is terrible.

  4. Bucco Bruce Says:

So are you saying the problem is 100% Bowles and Leftwich really doesn’t have much say? Also you are definitely saying by proxy Bowles is an idiot and terrible coach because he is forcing an offense to do something other than what it’s built for and he has his grubby hands all over it?

Isn’t Leftwich supposed to be the true successor to BA? Then wtf is he not having the offense running completely through him? Why is Bowles touching it at all? Here I thought both of them were the issue.

  5. Goatfarmer Says:

Bowels should be fired for Bucs treason. I can’t take another game with this insane head coach. DC? Fine. HC? Noooooo.

  6. SufferingSince76 Says:

Bowles and Leftwich have been exposed. Bowles will never be a HC again and Leftwich will never be a HC and shouldn’t be an OC again. Without Arians, Leftwich is nothing. Pitiful.

  7. Deeez NATZ Says:

More evidence toilet bowels should be flushed…This coach rivals lousy lovie.

  8. Deeez NATZ Says:

And for the record I like Bowels as a man just not as a coach and decision maker. He would be dope to hang out with and have a beer with though.

  9. BucsNoles Says:

Bigger question may be – What is Lightbulb doing about this
He seems to be playing the role of NERO as we watch this team struggle to find wins
Someone needs to be held accountable for this

  10. Bobby M. Says:

The entire league is structured to pass and produce exciting football…..yet we’re stuck in the 90s. Bowles and Leftwich are the worst hires this team has made since I’ve been following them. Any success we have is quickly nullified by the probability they get to return. It’s almost like you would rather lose and dump them then have them back for another mediocre season. We need to go after Bill O Brien….he can run an offense and develop a QB all while being HC. Bowles is simply not capable and Leftwich is even worse.

  11. August 1976 Buc Says:

Ground hog football, 3 yards and a cloud of dust ultimately got Dungy fired.
Dungy can be thankful he went to the Tom Moore/ Peyton Manning offensive show in Indy and got a ring. Todd told of all people Dungy before the Dallas game that he wanted to run the ball more. Glad the Cardinals had a first start 3rd string McSorley in there. BUT still the Bucs barely won

  12. Tom in Mad City Says:

Coming out of halftime, Bowles said we have to run the ball more. And then the Bucs went three and out on the first second half possession. The running game isn’t a strength of this team. When will this coaching staff see that. This was a terrible victory.

  13. Lost in procrastination Says:

Lets see Brady throw it 100 times a game so he can have that record too

  14. BucsFanSince76 Says:

How many more offensive linemen can we lose before Lichtbrain calls JC Tretter and says ” I shoulda called you when Jensen went down and sorry I didn’t , but can you get in here now?” Do YOUR JOB LICHTBRAIN!!!!!!!

  15. BucU Says:

Congrats Joe. You’re the first writer ever to use the words Todd Bowles and savvy in the same sentence.
Musta been a typo. FIRE this guy immediately after we are eliminated from the playoff race.
    This team is utterly unwatchable.

  16. Stormy Says:

More evidence that Todd Bowles is an idiot whi needs to be replaced.

  17. Jeff Says:

When the Bucs are DESTROYED next week by the Panthers Todd’s Buccaneer Career is over.

  18. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

This will just add legs to Bowles’ stupid philosophy. We wont see White again this year.

  19. Jack Clark Says:

Totally agree Joe, Todd Bowels is the reason why our offense is stuttering–not Byron Leftwich. We were a Top 5 scoring offense when our head coach was offensive minded instead of defensive minded. Todd Bowels effectively neutered our offense.

  20. Kentucky Buc Says:

It’s not going to change. I’ve been adamant that Bowles is holding the Offense back since early in the season. This is who he is.

  21. DungyDance Says:

    My take from last night:
    1) Offensive line played poorly. And what do you expect from 2nd or 3rd string guys? Running game cannot possibly work with this “very offensive” line. Bowles needs to get real about this when fantasizing over running game.
    2) Brady missed a lot of targets. The Julio miss for what should have been a TD was painful and a perfect demonstration of this problem.
Offensive line causes some of this. But Brady is not blameless. Maybe his “little” should injury is part.of it. But there is definitely an “it” with Brady the culprit.
    3) Leftwich play calling continues to be stubborn and dumb. 3 runs in a row with 2nd and inches. Fail. Fail. Fail. Play action anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Buller? Nah, let’s keep padding Watt’s tackle stats. Leftwich is either unwilling or unable to adjust. Throw his flat brim hat in the bay. And him too.
    4) Defense communicated well, covered assignments, played aggressive, and made a few big plays. Carlton Davis dropping the INT hurt a bit, but they stayed focused. Lavonte playing better than earlier this year. Really impressed with what this unit has done without Vea and Barrett. Bowles needs to retreat to DC where he is plainly better suited.
    5) The team has no identity. We watched two bad teams producing bad football last night. One team had to win (although a tie was looking very possible).

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So….Bowles is the one who called for more Lenny & not BL?………after Lenny “power rushed” 3 times in a row without gaining 1 yard.

If that’s the case, maybe we’ve been too hard on BL……..(nope)

  23. dmatt Says:

Bowles is stubborn n stuck in his ways, my bad stuck in the 70’s. I watch nfl teams week in and week out get creative n play to the strength of their team to win games n this idiot fails to acknowledge we strive in the no huddle offense. No problem this gives him every reason to be fired after the season. I was all for Bowles replacing BA, being that all he had to do was let primarily the same players do what they’ve always done for the past several years to maintain a winning season, air the ball out n score points Bowles! He is clueless.

  24. Jeff Says:

Bowles and Leftwhich are CLUELESS! Absolutely destroyed the Yucs’ season. Sullying Tom’s golden years.

  25. Drew Says:

Todd Bowles is a liability to this team and needs to be fired.

  26. alaskabuc Says:

When exactly did Lenny get going early and see inspiration to trust him later, was it when he was stopped three straight times with a yard to go? Or was it that 3 yard average that had coaching staff fired up?

  27. Drew Says:

Let’s not forget Leftwich needs to be fired as well.

  28. mg Says:

The owners were drunk when they hired Bowles after letting the Rams score at will.
Should have been fired for those idiotic blitzes.

  29. Smashsquatch Says:

Square peg/round hole epitomizes poor coaching, and Bowles is a square peg himself. Square peg squared!

  30. Drew Says:

Lenny was stopped 3 times due to play calling. Run 1st and 2nd. Pass on 3rd repeatedly. The 1/2 time adjustment was run on 1st and 2nd. Pass on 3rd.

My children could put together a better game plan.

  31. alton green Says:

Remember when Jeff Foxworth said “here’s your sign?” Because of Todd and Lefty, I have sinned, sinned and sinned more. Because of them I have said bad words about every Mother in the Country. they should ask this question at every HC interview including Bowles in 2023 (This happened last night) OK mr. Bowles or mr. Leftwich who the hell EVER is running the show. “you have a little less that 2 minutes till halftime. you’re on your own 10yd. line. You have the GOAT as your QB. What do you do?” Those two say “RUN IT UP THE GUT FOR 1 YARD” OK now you have 2nd and 9, what do you do? ” run it up the gut for no gain” OK now you are 3rd and 9. What do you do? “They say throw a 40 yd pass” Now keep in mind Mr Bowles you have the lowest run game in the league. Bowles would do the same thing again. The Glazers should say “don’t let the door hit you in the arse. When you have 3rd and 9, the defense releases the hounds. incomplete pass. The Panthers with Heckle and Jeckle? Not a snowballs chance in hell

  32. JimmyfromNY Says:

Brady missed Jones early Not like any other quarterback in football who misses throws every single game, including Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen,. But when it mattered most fourth quarter and overtime 17 of 21 for 169 yards and a touchdown in a 117 rating. Go back the past two months in a hurry up o in his rating is close to 120 with 3 4th Q double digit comebacks What does Bowles do? Want to run the ball even more. He’s selfish and only cares how it effects his D

  33. Rpg Says:

    Agree!

  34. JokersParadigm Says:

What I don’t understand is that Bowles would rather lose his job because of his philosophy not working, than making adjustments back to what worked the last two years? Makes no sense to me. How many head coaching chances does he think he is going to get in this league?

  35. BucsFan4Life Says:

I didn’t see Fournette throw two picks. Brady isn’t the same and this team is limping hard going into the “potential” playoffs. Time to rebuild.

  36. alton green Says:

The Bucs won in spite of the coaching and not BECAUSE OF the coaches. It was an overall disaster for the bucs. But look at the stats. Tommy Boy has 281 yds and a TD. (yes the whole world knows he had 2 int’s) If there ever was a team that fits this saying, it’s the Bucs. “PASS TO SET UP THE RUN” Bowles still thinks Joe B. is a great POTUS and Caramel Harris is a great border czar. She still thinks the border is NC and SC, Va and WV, and ND and SD. AND CA and the PACIFIC OCEAN

  37. Bucs fan from Philly Says:

He prefers a QB who isn’t afraid to throw the ball pass the line of scrimmage. But no, JBF won’t dare talk about Brady. Joe talks about Brady all the time. It’s all over the website. Not Joe’s fault if you’re not reading it. –Joe. Talk about everyone else except the QB dunking the ball every play when we rebuilt for the long ball. He couldn’t connect with Julio on the first play, Evans in the redzone or Miller for the long ball. Yet we see that and only talk about how our coach prefers power running. The pass game is not there. Yet it’s bad playcalling. Never is it Brady. Shame on you JBF

  38. Mike Says:

I believe Mike Evans leaves the bucs at the end of the season I think he will be demanding a trade or an out rite release why would he want to keep playing for Todd Bowles the guy who cost him his streak of thousand yards season they are not going to throw him the ball he is the best receiver they have and they refused to throw him a ball I hope he has a great rest of his career finishing it out for another team

  39. NEfan Says:

Josh Allen threw for 170 and 3 ints. Sorry but this O is making Brady and everyone uncomfortable. It’s unfortunate those calling out Brady miss the 2 dropped balls by Otton back to back series and 3rd & 3 drop by Gage who is actually proving to be the player BRADY recruited. Watt knew what Bucs were running pre-snap. Evan’s is more screwed up than even Brady in this moronic O. There is only one word to describe this team PAINFUL.

  40. NEfan Says:

Forgot to mention, White came out of the gate on fire before Watt opened the Bucs playback which is the same as opening a Scooby-Doo Doo coloring book.

  41. NEfan Says:

    Play book autofil.

  42. Boltsfan17 Says:

Absolutely nothing wrong with a power run game. Problem is the OL is lousy at it the vast majority of the time. Personally I hate how this league has transformed into an outdoor version of an arena league.

  43. BucsFanSince76 Says:

    Beat Carolina and Go Bucs!!!!

  44. Deeez NATZ Says:

    Toilet bowls!

  45. JokersParadigm Says:

I agree that Brady doesn’t get called out for bad play.

  46. Bucsfan13 Says:

I have to agree with NE Fan. Josh Allen was absolutely horrible yesterday. He was sailing passes over his receivers’ heads and making bad reads, and yet Bills fans aren’t calling for his head. He also had a ton of RZ picks this year. Aaron Rodgers has also looked his age. He’s overthrowing receivers and throwing picks. He has some wow throws, but he’s been reduced to slants and swing passes. Brady has played poorly the last three games, but let’s not act that there aren’t any other good QBs who have had bad games.

  47. NEfan Says:

Boltsfan@ it’s not the oline it’s the predictable timing and lack of diversion pre-play. Watts is seasoned, he knew exactly when Bucs were running and where. No different from the Ravens. Not ONE player on the O is comfortable with the O game plan and schemes, I would add adjustments but there aren’t any.

  48. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

It’s not 1970. Bowles and BL are football dinosaurs. Hopefully an asteroid is coming in 3 weeks, but I don’t have that much faith in the Glazers to clean house and then find superior replacement coaches.

  49. Mike Johnson Says:

This team is just hard to watch. You always know their production is going to be very little. And probably not enough to win. Last night if Arizona had their starting QB, we lose by at least 10. Most of you know that.

  50. Kentucky Buc Says:

Brady is definitely missing some throws. The receivers are out of sync and dropping balls on top of it. The O line is garbage but Bowles isn’t helping any with this predictable offense. On one 3-1 run there were 4 defenders in the backfield. On the next play 4-1, there were 3 defenders in the backfield. The weak O line has no chance when everybody knows what’s coming. Two easy play action opportunities pissed away right there. Add running on 3-3 on the last drive in regulation and it’s just sickening. The truth is there are so many horrific play calls and situational calls that this offense never gets in a rhythm. As soon as they start to get a little momentum a horrible play call or penalty puts the kibash on it. Sports are all about rhythm. This team has about as much rhythm as Elaine on Seinfield.

  51. Notbyronleftwitch Says:

Hear me out, what if this is all just a ploy, so teams underestimate their offensive ability in the playoffs? Who says this isn’t the time to get the run game right for a deep run, while they let the offense loose when they absolutely have to

  52. Kentucky Buc Says:

This is all about Todd’s ego. Brady gets too much credit at times and we all know that although he’s the first guy to heap praise on teammates. I’ll go back to those 11 days off in training camp. That was Brady walking out. Remember when Todd didn’t even know when he was coming back. JL or Glazers talked him back in. Remember the strange press conferences. I thought at the time that there was more going on. This is only my opinion.
‘This is My Team not BA’s’

  53. NEfan Says:

News flash QB’s miss throws. TD called back from an illegal shift, the very next play he a strike to Otton, he picks up the first down but a BS holding call by Wirf negates it. How much of this shat can a QB take? I don’t think Brady was horse he sounded like he was sick in his presser. I didn’t see him screaming all game.

  54. ocala Says:

Bowles and Leftwich are both terrible at their jobs.

  55. Kentucky Buc Says:

NEfan. My point being that you put the most detail oriented player of all time in a random, no rhythm, no structure offense and this is what you get. I think Brady saw it coming. He should’ve walked permanently in training camp and let them have their 2-15 season. He’s not built that way of course.

  56. Bucschamp Says:

More wins means Bowles get to keep his job.

  57. Buddha Says:

Where is the great personnel you fans think we possess. Our best offensive lineman has not played a down this season. Our best defensive lineman has missed 9 games. Our best tight ends are low draft choice rookies. Our wide receivers struggle to get separation and two of the top four have missed more than half of the games. Even when we won the Superbowl we got our played by Washington and barely prevailed over New Orleans and Green Bay largely due to turnovers, then crushed KC with a great defensive game plan and due to KC’s banged up offensive line. Injuries matter. So does luck. Look how terrible the Rams have been. You can’t lose three Pro Bowl starters and expect to win 11 games.

  58. Tap-Out Says:

Cry me a f’ing river Stop the Undermining and get on board, allow this staff to live or die on its own merits. Right now we winning while the most of you hating on WINNING COACHING STAFF! …MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!

  59. ClwJB Says:

Worst HC in the league lives on the sideline in Tampa

Lucky we have Brady to pull out wins against hack teams in the final moments

We are 4-11 without him at best

  60. NEfan Says:

Tap-out@ if that is your spirited motivational speech, it needs some tweaking. This is a bad team and laughing stock on GMFB led by the worst coaching staff in the league. The training staff all look like they moonlight as bartenders in Clearwater beach.

  61. David Says:

If that is coming from Bowles then maybe BL needs a little slack, I don’t know. All I know is wherever it’s coming from, it is a sign of horrendous coaching. You coach the players you have, you don’t try to fit them into some thing they are not.

  62. Kentucky Buc Says:

    David. Ditto

  63. ChiBuc Says:

Blah, blah, blah… the same voices with the same opinions post after post. A lynch mob filled with Brady-ites, whose passion for the game seems to orbit around one man and his horse voice. Gag. You need at least 3 for a circle jerk and Bowles–>Byron–>Tommy are tugging hard on one another for the product you are seeing each and every week.

  64. Kgh4life Says:

This power running mentality is holding the Bucs back, don’t they see that? It’s more evident that Bowles shouldn’t be the coach of the Bucs. No matter what type of OC the Bucs get next season, Bowles will hold this team back.

  65. Lamarcus Says:

I prefer the run game too the way Brady is playing.

  66. Bojim Says:

He wants to make sure that people know this is his team, not BA’s. Even if we lose the division.

  67. ChiBuc Says:

The chicken and the egg. Can you imagine a world in which a HC sees his QB overthrow, underthrow, has poor timing with veteran WRs, and is turning the ball over with alarming consistency may favor a “power” run game? Byron/Bowles are not making Brady look good AND Brady is returning the favor. I’d rather return to obscurity than be beholden to your false god

  68. Lamarcus Says:

And if you pass 45 times a game…You are pass heavy. Do we want to throw 60 times?? I don’t understand the logic with this take

  69. Wokeizdunn Says:

Bowles should have been fired after the Rams gams last year. Arians should never have been allowed to stay on as an “advisor” as that sends the message to players that Bowles/BL are not the real coaches. Brady should not been allowed to leave the team for Kraft’s wedding on a road trip. That clearly sowed discontent and double standards. The only reason JL is still GM is Brady wanted to come to Tampa. He needed to be fired end of 2019…Winston and Aguayo and dismal records was reason enough. But who lets all of the above happen? The Glazers. Yes, they have to SB wins since the mid-90s but the Bucs are also LAST in winning percentage thanks in large part to the Glazers. But hey, as least they have ensured male cheerleaders make up and dance like females, and they filled in the end zone with more seats to add crowding at concessions but bring the owners more money. Win or lose…who cares?

  70. Wokeizdunn Says:

^^^^ Bottom Line is the problems with this football team are organizational and originate from much higher in the Bucs HQ and no single/simple set of moves will improve this team going forward. ^^^^

  71. AmauryGuzman Says:

BL has no feel for the game. None. Consider it an accomplishment if this team somehow finds a way to win the division with this lousy coaching staff.

  72. AmauryGuzman Says:

Chubut brady is clearly not 100 percent but do you think he plays this way if BA was the coach? No way. Bowles doesn’t hold players accountable.

  73. David Says:

For those saying Bowles should have been fired last year, no, he should not have.
His defense has been incredible the last couple years with all their injuries. Making a mistake here & there is not a fireable offense. Consistent below mediocrity is… As in BL. The defense has done it’s job. This season is 100% on the office. Second biggest point reduction per game drop in NFL history from year to year.

The other problem is now we know Bowles should not be a head coach.
Everyone in football was glad to see him get another chance and assumed the Jets were atrocious and gave him garbage. Turns out some people should be a coordinator and never move to head coach.

  74. ViSyl Says:

It’s painful to watch an offense knowing that we will run for zero yards on first down, get little to nothing on 2nd down and probably get a sack on third and long.

  75. David Says:

At what point do we address the elephant in the room… Brady. He retired. It seems really clear to me now that he was trying to get out of here and head to Miami. it didn’t happen.
His marriage start falling apart, he was distracted. Barely showed up to training camp, left to go to wedding, distracted with the public divorce, and now in a public NTF lawsuit. Nonstop distractions, and from day one it seemed like he did not want to be here anymore.
As bad as they are, most the time they don’t even show up to practice until Wednesday.

Add Bowles and B L to the mix completely trashing the Offense… They ran him out of town.
Absolutely no way he is back here next year if he plays.
I’d like to think with Jensen coming back he would come back focused but my gut says not a chance

  76. JBBucs_06 Says:

Ok, watched a LOT of the Bucs. I believe this was an “all-in” year and the retirement of Marpet, Jensen injury, DSmith falloff (whatever personal problem is there) and no veteran TE has handicapped the O. Brady is 45. The 2020/21 Oline was top 5 in the NFL. We STILL couldn’t run the ball but we could protect the GOAT as a statue in the pocket and throw for 400yds a game.

NOW, this Oline started a rookie at LG who’d never played guard and a 1st yr player at C who’d NEVER played C in a game… in his life. It was a disaster, we couldn’t run nor protect TB12, which made Brady jittery. Top that off w/ his own personal problems (divorce, FTX) and now HE’S off his game, no AB, no Gronk to create mismatches and Godwin coming off an injury.

Can Bowles really bench Brady for a more mobile QB, which is what this make-shift Oline needs? Of course NOT! So they have to live with it. Bowles’ hands are tied, period! Have to play D, grind out games, reduce mistakes, pray for minimal injuries and 4Q magic.

All this fire Bowles and Leftwich talk is nonsense. These were the same two who helped us win a Super Bowl in Feb ’21. It’s not even 2023 yet. Leftwich had 5k season with Jameis AND TB12 in back to back years. WITH a dominant Oline. Now, I dare you 2 watch any NFL game and tell me how many teams have a QB that doesn’t scramble at least once a game or bootleg or roll to relieve pressure in the pocket. WE DON’T HAVE THAT LUXURY. Let’s get what we can from this season and reset, but stop w/ the fire the coaches crap.

  77. Craig Says:

How do you pass long when your QB is taking a two step drop and throwing right then?

The team plays ugly partly because of that. The rest of the ugly is that Bowles cleaner is trying to make this a transition year. He doesn’t want anyone to say that he can only win with an Arians team.

Next year is going to three yards and a cloud of dust. Even if Trask is the future he will be wasted in that effort for a power run game.

  78. Coburn Says:

Knew when they said brady had a meeting with his receivers that he was taking the reigns from lefty and they’d make something work. First thing I noticed was suddenly Evans was lining up in the slot and he got a couple catches that drive. It’s criminal the way they use him most of the game. Although having said that he was open a couple times earlier and Brady either didn’t have the time or missed him

  79. Alanbucsfan Says:

Until OT, Bucs were 0-6 with 2 interceptions attempting to throw deep.
Either it’s because of no huddle, or receivers are digging harder to get open or Brady is more focused and accurate during no huddle or Leftwich’s regular offense has no rhythm- but for some reason, the Bucs passing offense was great during no huddle OT, and pathetic before that.

  80. Joshua porter Says:

Whomever changed this offense and made them go turtle has got to go . Bowles , lefty , or even brady 1 of them has to be removed

  81. Tap-Out Says:

@NEfan… Not trying to motivate anyone just trying to understand how you and others here continue to Cry, Disrespect and (try to) Undermine this Coaching Staff! …have you ever heard the saying that “They put a man in jail for Looking Like”! GO BUCS INSPITE OF!! ….only the blind could see a way to say that Brady was the MVP of this win … Defense played above average ball, Special Teams played above average (the field goals) and even tho the OLine is hurting, they didn’t totally crumble (in this game). Coach TB made some good critical calls, yet you complain after a win! This is not the team that won the Super Bowl, but we are the BUCCANEERS and we WINNING!

  82. BucsFanSince76 Says:

You Brady Bashers are the worst kind of Stupid-Bucs down 10 with 10 minutes left in the game and Brady leads team to three scores and Bucs win in OT. Without Brady you lose the Saints game and you lose the one last night. Brady is the ONLY reason Bucs have an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth at home this Sunday.

  83. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If I could have what I want atm, I would fire Bowle and make Leftwich interim head coach.

It avoids bad press for firing 2 Black head coaches, and gives Leftwich the chance to interview as a head coach.

Barring a superb owl run, the Bucs would face no backlash if they do not choose him after the season.

But…as I’ve pointed out multiple times, the Glazers do not fire coaches during the season.

  84. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

White was the better RB last night and did more with less opportunity! Fournette played ok but you’ll never know if it was “a savvy move” because they didn’t give White enough opportunity even after he’s the one that got the running game going! And who was it that caught the only TD pass again??

  85. Allen Lofton Says:

Bucs will fail with Bowles as Coach!!!

He wasn’t great last night But he’s only one of a few quarterbacks who can turn it on and come back from double digit deficits late Your fans are complaining about Dr. Ruiz did she start of loss of the Texans the worst team in football last week, Mahomes was terrible that game, but did what he had to do to win. Same as Brady. Same for Allan in Chicago The only people that don’t know how hamstrung is in this o are the trolls he’s tortured the past two decades. You’re gonna win the division next week because it’s a must win games he’s gonna be playing with 2,practice squad , off the street tackles, no running game and is going to win the division . It will drive you guys crazy. He’s going to beat Atlanta , Dallas and get you guys a game in Philadelphia where most of their fans won’t sleep for a week knowing they’re going against him

  87. Ed Says:

The difference between Fournette and White is that Fournette can get more yards after contact if he finds a hole but White can find a hole better than Fournette can and White will accelerate north and south while Fournette will dance around.

Like it or not it is the worst running game in the NFL and all of the WR screens are predictable. The reason they worked last night is because of Chris Godwin. He is the only WR that can make those plays positive.

Gage is starting to look like his old self.

  88. Fitz Says:

Bowels and Leftwich are either too stubborn or too stupid to adapt to the offensive line failure to protect Brady. When everyone watching knows what play will come next you can’t compete. Why they don’t mix in more play action and hurry up offense is a mystery because it has shown it works for them. Brady did it for years with the Patriots when his O line was weak. It’s maddening to watch the stupidity in play calling every week.

  89. Fitz Says:

Stop all this ridiculous thinking that a mobile quarterback is the answer. Mobile quarterbacks never last long in the nfl. Brady can’t run but he has dominated all the mobile quarterbacks in the league for years. Unfortunately his O line is a sieve and can’t protect him or effectively run block. Throw in terrible play calling and you have a mess. How good did Mahomes look a few years ago in the Super Bowl without a couple of his starting linemen? Every quarterback needs 3 seconds for the pass plays to develop.

  90. ocala Says:

Brady has been pressing lately, but he is the reason the Bucs are winning any games this year.

The decision making by the head coach has been atrocious and the play calling and play designs have been some of the worst I have ever seen at the NFL level.

    Bowles and Leftwich are awful.

  91. ACG2x Says:

The final numbers such as Brady’s pass attempts which leads people to believe we are “pass heavy” mask the true nature of our offense. The play calling is stuck in 1993 when it was run up the middle on 1st, run off tackle on 2nd and pass if you have to on 3rd.

What happens though is we get behind like against New Orleans & Arizona then need to play hurry up and throw which jacks up Brady’s attempts. The bigger issue though is how predictable the offense is. 75% or more of our drives last night started with a run up the middle. No misdirection, no creativity, no multiple actions/fakes/motions. Just line up in I formation and plunge Lenny into the pile.

This might work against teams like NO/ARI but will never get us past the first round of the playoffs. If your OL isn’t strong enough to hold up for deep routes then you need to create time by running misdirections, play action, etc. Create distractions for defenses to pay attention to which allow your QB the extra second to hit a downfield target. But Leftwich won’t even do that.

The owners were drunk when they hired Bowles after letting the Rams score at will.
Should have been fired for those idiotic blitzes.

    ——————————————————————-

It’s a good point. A normal ownership / management would have fired Bowles as the team’s defensive coordinator, after that disastrous play call at the end of the game against the Rams.

That crazy play call very possibly cost the Bucs another Superbowl title. A normal team would have fired him for that. Instead, they promoted him to head coach, and that was despite that they even knew he was a total failure as the head coach with the Jets previously.

And now through this debacle of a season, they ownership / management seems totally content to keep Bowles………the whole thing is really strange.

    ———————————————————————

The reason Brady missed that throw to Julio was because Julio trippled on his feet in the end zone. He stumbled, and probably lost 4-5 feet from where he would have been, had he not stumbled. It’s clear as day on the replay to see. Everyone is blaming Brady for something that wasn’t his fault there.

There were other throws he missed in the game, but that one was on Julio, not Brady. You also make a good point as to all the trolling here about Brady missing throws. We have a gigantic percentange of trolls here on this site, that are hammering Brady for every throw he misses.

They are gigantic trolls, because if you watch any NFL game, levery single quarterback in the league is missing 4-5 throws in every single game. Every single quarterback does it, in every single game. We have trolls here that are pretending a male believe fantasy that only Brady does it, when it’s everfy quarterback in the league doing the same thing.

It’s also the same thing with the interceptions. Trolls are up in arms about Brady throwing interceptions. Yeah, it’s bad, and it hurts the team. But he;s got 9 interceptions, with the most pass attempts in the league. Most quarterbacks have more interceptions, with less attempts. All of the best quarterbacks have more interceptions than he does.

Burrow has 12, Mahomes has 11, Rodgers has 11, Allen has 13. All with LESS pass attempts. It happens, every quarterback has games wiht multiple interceptions. Every single one of them.

Yes, it’s bas when it happens, and Brady absolutely must not do that for the team to really have good succes. But it’s the same exact thing for every single quarterback in the league. Mahomes, Allen, and Burrow, for example, all three of them are much more turnover prone than Brady is. But the trolls here are pretending that only Brady somehow turns the ball over, and that other QBs don’t do it.

    Just so much trolling.

  95. Browsing from DC Says:

If Bowles is back as HC, Brady is gone. If Bowles is replaced by either BL or an offensive-minded HC, he might stay.

The big tell that Brady sees Bowles as the problem is that he NEVER gets in BL’s face when plays don’t work. Brady has had many sideline outbursts with OCs in the past, many with Josh McDaniels especially and McDaniels is a very good OC (but a lousy HC). In fact, Brady defends Leftwich. And Brady hasn’t “mellowed” in his old age. Ask any Microsoft tablet. But Brady has never blasted a HC on the sideline to my knowledge over a bad game plan.

Bowles wants a clock-killing running attack. With the current personnel it can’t be easy to make that happen. Some of the designs work pretty well (like the one where Mason pulled and set the contain on the left side, etc) but for the most part, “between the tackles” aka up the middle get stuffed. I don’t know what Bowles is seeing on those plays to say they’re effective.

  96. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Turnover to TD ratio is the most telling stat when comparing TB12 to other QB’s, especially considering the fact that TB12 has thrown far more attempts than any QB this season in the NFL.

    TB12: 21 TD to 9 INT
Mahomes: 37 TD to 11 INT
Allen: 32 TD to 13 INT
Burrows: 34 TD to 12 INT

Consider this, Dak Prescott has played in 5 less games than TB12 this season, yet his stats of 20 TD’s and 10 INT’s almost match TB12’s who has played in all 15 games this season.

TB12 is nowhere near as productive and good of a QB as Mahomes, Allen, Burrows, and Dak are.

The best QB’s score a lot of TD’s and don’t turn the ball over.

TB12 doesn’t lead his team to TD’s at a high rate when compared to other elite QB’s.

    That’s the truth.

  97. JimmyfromNY Says:

Bradys had several touchdowns call back his touchdown to interception ratio should be about 25 to 9 fairly comparable to the other guys. And again those guys are surrounded by much better offensive line running games and certainly receive a separation. Bradys hamstrung much worse than the other top QB’s. I don’t make mistakes for the turnovers, but that’s part of the game. Brady’s the best if not the best and protecting the football all time. He puts the ball at risk much more thaRogers does. Check out the tight window throws comparison. Brady is way ahead of Roger’s. Rogers would much rather take a sack and throw an interception. Brady will put the ball at risk. Donyou know you can tell this in the playoffs. Roger’s inability to throw the ball to tight windows and to make plays as cost them chances atvchampionships. Brady will put the ball at risk and take that chance. That’s what separates them from everyone else.

  98. steele Says:

There is nothing wrong with a smashmouth running offense—if you have carefully built your roster to do that, have the OL and the feature and power backs to do it, and you are the bottom-up architect of such an offense, and you are brilliant at it.

This team is not built for it. This is not the 2002 Bucs with Mike Alstott. Yet here is Bowles and Leftwurst forcing the wrong personnel and the wrong OL, a decimated makeshift unit, to be the most dominating running attack in NFL history.
