Just A Bunch Of Guys

December 17th, 2022

Fed up with limp Bucs.

Ian Beckles has had it.

After watching the Bucs get woodshedded last week in NoCal, the former Bucs guard and popular local sports personality took to his podcast “In the Trenches” to unload.

Beckles pulled no punches and spared no one. Not even the Bucs’ quarterback with seven rings who some refer to as a farm animal.

Beckles said the way the Bucs have played it’s time for fans to quit dreaming and living in the past. This Bucs team, he said, is a sorry team full of badly-coached underachievers.

“You see how backed up and effed up what’s going on right now?” Beckles said of the downward spiral of the Bucs. “This Buccaneers team, there is not one thing they do that is average. What do they do that is average? Seriously? It’s time for us to get real.”

Calling players out started at the top with No. 12.

“Brady is a big part of the problem. “He played like a horse’s arse.”

Beckles claimed Brady is just protecting himself by unloading the ball quickly and not trying to get the ball downfield or to move the chains.

“He knows he ain’t going to be here next year,” Beckles said. “I’m not downplaying Tom Brady. He’s doing what he has to do. This is life.”

It pains Beckles to watch.

“We have the offense of a three-win football team,” Beckles said. “Right now Brady needs a lot of help around him. … We have to stop bullsh!tting ourselves.”

Beckles said the Bucs are a losing team because the team is made up of JAGs. Then Beckles began naming names, not holding back.

“You know who is just a guy?” Beckles asked. “Julio Jones is just a guy. With all due respect, what has he done this year? Right now, Julio, you are just a guy.

“With all due respect, Mike Evans, you are just a guy. Mike Evans is not No. 1 on nobody’s team right now. Nobody.

“Right now, Akiem Hicks is not even just a guy, I’m letting you know I know something about trenches play, Akiem. Right now, you aren’t trying. Your effort level is minimum. You are just collecting checks like Albert Haynesworth did.

“Our whole offensive line is just guys. … They are just a bunch of guys. Our tight ends? Just guys.

“Will Gholston — I used to defend him all the time. Right now, he’s just a guy out there.”

Beckles saved special venom for one particular player on defense and on offense. Buckle up.

“Right now Donovan Smith, who I have defended for a long, long, long, long time ain’t good,” Beckles began. “What do you want me to say Donovan? You are not good.

“You are not blocking anybody. When you are blocking someone, you are holding. You are the most penalized player in the NFL. I can’t defend you anymore.”

And then Beckles came out with both barrels blazing for his current favorite pinata, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and even invoked a favorite target of his from the past.

“Joe Tryon-Shoyinka may be worse than Gaines Adams,” Beckles said. “Joe Tryon-Shoyinka sucks. He’s soft. He is unaware. He is [not] instinctive.

“I am to the point where you can put the “Bust” on him. He won’t be good. It’s long enough now. I’ve seen enough.”

And, Beckles seems to have also turned on defensive tackle Vita Vea.

“Vita Vea? I’m starting to lean on Warren Sapp,” Beckles began. “Warren Sapp told me way back when it was a wasted pick. Vita hasn’t done anything this year. I mean zero.”

Oh, the Bucs coaches were not above critique. But compared to some players, Beckles went easy.

“When you watch film and there is a lack of effort on both sides of the ball, there has to be some soul searching,” Beckles said. “This offense ain’t tough. This defense ain’t tough.

“Leftwich against [49ers coach and play-caller Kyle] Shanahan looked like the biggest mismatch of any matches.”

Beckles said the key problem with the Bucs is the players the team banked on to ball out aren’t.

“The guys who are supposed to be great are our liabilities right now,” Beckles said.

And Beckles noted something that Joe has sensed: maybe players already tuned out Brady to a point.

“I think Tom is starting to lose the room,” Beckles said.

Despite this, Beckles seemed to indicate only someone fully intoxicated or not dealing with reality wants to run off Brady. Beckles seemed to have a coded message for the sect of Bucs fans pining for Brady to be benched or released — to jump-start the Kyle Trask era of Bucs ball.

“Take Tom Brady out and see what this piece of sh!t looks like.”

It all comes down to Bowzo. Case closed.

    .
    .

Before anyone loses their marbles, I’m pretty sure that when Ian said POS, he was referring to the team as a whole, and not Trask specifically. I think.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Why don’t you tell us how you feel, Ian.

Actually, I can’t disagree with anything……but when you have a whole team of players under-performing…….that’s on the coaches.

I’m now starting to feel that jettisoning JPP, Suh and the loss of Gronk and losing BA as head coach is the root of the problem

  4. NJbucs23 Says:

Losing Arians destroyed this team. Goes to show you how important a great leader is. Arians just had that natural swag to him, and we miss it dearly.

  5. NEfan Says:

It looks like oneilsuckyall. Nothing about D. White??? Players just don’t quit, they have to have a reason. The obvious guess is how BA sabotaged this team for his own selfish initiative. It’s obvious at some point early in the season the players knew this wasn’t going to work. It took Beasley less than 2 weeks to figure it out. I am not buying all the injuries I believe some of these cowards have just quit.

  6. BucsFanSince76 Says:

I like unfiltered Ian , which I am not sure we got the fully unfiltered version on sports radio , they were foolish to part with him. Ian let Jason Licht off the easy by not calling him out by name. Licht has been abysmal.

  7. Chuckstutz Says:

    Sad but true.

  8. Knucknbuc Says:

Jts sucks easily the worst player on defense which is saying something because it’s crap but holy when you watch him play you’d think it was his first year

  9. Doc Says:

Ian, correct assement of this team. What we are seeing is the after effects of the actions that happen before the Steelers game. When a player become GM,Head coachand quarterback that is a receipe for failure. When management tell one player we can not win with out you, how do other players feel, when they read and hear those statement.

  10. Lamarcus Says:

Tom Brady was voted the number 1 player and deservingly so. Look how far he fell off. Devin White is literally costing us games and needs to be bench for any middle linebacker. Only blitz Devin White

I don’t know why the cry about the rest of players like Donovan Smith, Mike Evans, Joe Tyron, Etc…. Those games always been between Great,Good,Average to Garbage in between games/weeks/years. Nothing consistent about them unless they get a favorable match up.

  11. Kentucky Buc Says:

This is what the ME generation looks like. I hear a lot of talk about how the Bucs are an old team, yet it’s a litany of young guys missing games with injuries. There’s O cohesion on either side of the ball. The trenches suck on both sides of the ball. They tried to get Gronk to play for JAG money when he was still top 3 in the league at his position. One of the few receiving TEs who could block lineman. The organization failed . Hiring Bowles was catastrophic. I still believe Brady’s 11 day break from training camp was him retiring again when he saw what Bowles was going to do to the Offense. Somebody talked him back in. Even Brady can’t make something work that he knows is flawed. I’m sure he also knew that the O line wasn’t going to be good enough.

  12. Bosch Says:

This is an unmotivated team. Losing out is a real possibility. Glazers need to fire everyone including themselves.

  13. SB~LV Says:

    Bingo !
    Don’t expect any improvement
Gonna be a painful end of the season.
    Can you say REBUILD
and everything that comes with it.
We don’t owe TB anything, he will not be a Buc next year which means he is not a Buc this year.
They HAVE to find out about Trask in NFL real time.
It’s all about the 2023 draft now , forget about quality FA’s next year.

  14. NEfan Says:

Doc, seriously??? How would the Chiefs be without Mahomes, Bills Allen, Hebert, Cousins, Roger’s what are you talking about??? This is all on BA. How is Brady the HC, GM again? You mean because he got Lenny, Jensen, AB , Gronk, Ryan to sign? Pretty good job if you ask me. Those shatting on Licht need to realize the HC can fight for players, look how BA did for Brady.

  15. deiter Says:

I get what the rift between BA and Tom was about. It was this coaching staff. Start with Leftwesel fire him into the sun. And hire a defensive coordinator and give up playing calling Bowlz of Wrath made with Kraft cheese. Go get another pass rusher, running back, OG, DB, S in the draft. And let the #Collaspe4Caleb begin!!

  16. Marine Buc Says:

This is why I like this site. No punches pulled. The other Buc sites and the mainstream talking heads are just a bunch of goons afraid to be honest…

Let’s face it – this team sucks. From top to bottom it sucks. We are lucky to have 6 wins.

Ian is correct on every single point he made. This team is a dumpster fire and it is time to let it burn and start over next season.

  17. Roc Says:

    Soft Coach =Soft Team

Can be a players coach the Coach has to be a leader

    Bowles is NOT a leader

This is not the first time Bucs fans have seen this

  18. Defense Rules Says:

HC Grover … ‘It all comes down to Bowzo. Case closed.’

They’re both certainly PART of the problem HC, but no where close to the WHOLE problem.

I remember last year in the playoffs when the Bucs literally curb-stomped the Eagles. It was 31-0 in the early part of the 4th quarter when the Bucs defense let off the gas. That Eagles team was 9-8 in the regular season, with Jalen Hurts as their QB. Their offense ranked #12 (scored 26.1 PPG); their defense ranked #18 (allowed 22.6 PPG). They were a running team (on 51% of their plays) & turned the ball over (16 times) as often as they took it away (16 times).

This year? Right now they’re 12-1 and in a pretty tough division. Their offense is ranked #1 (scoring 29.7 PPG); their defense has improved to #7 (allowing 19.1 PPG). They’re still a running team (on 50.4% of their plays), but their turnover differential has changed significantly (23 takeaways versus 10 giveaways). Looks like almost half their starting defense has changed.

Same coaches, same QB, largely the same weapons (a couple are different) & primarily the same OLine, same attack philosophy (a dinosaur by many standards on JBF). So what changed to spark such a significantly better performance? I think it’s several things: (1) a year under their belt to build team chemistry; (2) improved QB performance (Hurts has gone from a 60% passer to 68% this year); (3) defense has improved, particularly their passing defense which is now ranked #1; (4) Turnover Differential is markedly improved to date (from a 0 Differential in 2021 to a PLUS 13 Differential already this year); (5) they’re scoring TDs (50 of them to date) to rank #1 in that stat and converting 3rd downs (46.4% clip to date) to rank #2 in that stat.

Bucs beat them bad last year in the playoffs, but we were a MUCH different team. OVER half of the offense & half of the defense that started that playoff game is either gone or injured. Bucs are a MUCH different team. And not in a good way. But changing coaches won’t magically fix that. Folks have to look MUCH DEEPER if we expect to field a competitive team in the future. And THOSE fixes start with the GM, not just the coaches.

  19. Depressed 2022 Says:

Yawn…. why did you take so long to state the obvious…. Glazers should call Bill Parcells and ask him what he would …. DUH…. FIRE SOME COACHES … AND RELEASE SOME PLAYERS….

  20. Tbbucs3 Says:

NEfan says “these cowards have just quit”

Amazing how you find a way to be wrong with every single post…..not playing well because of a bad scheme is one thing….but NFL players not playing hard because their coach doesn’t motivate them? Get out of here these are professional athletes and grown a** men who can motivate themselves….

Last time I checked the Bucs are still in 1st place in the NFC south…I can assure you that gives them enough reason to play hard…the reason this team isn’t playing well is not because of effort….it’s scheme and aging players who are declining which starts at Quarterback

  21. Kentucky Buc Says:

Those wanting to start over. Rebuild. What makes you think the Bucs won’t take another 10 or 20 years to be relevant again. Same problems still exist. Small market. No quality free agents will want to come here after Brady is gone. Wish in one hand shlt in the other.

  22. Buccos Says:

And yet it looks like we will be a playoff team and we still have time to get healthy and turn things around. You never know. And we swept the Saints, so there’s that

  23. Kentucky Buc Says:

Tbbucs3. I didn’t realize Vita,White,Davis,Edwards,Hainsey,Goedeke,Darden(waived finally for suckage), and SMB were that old. Not to mention injuries to the young guys who are playing decent. Wirfs and Winfield. Your argument doesn’t hold water.

  24. Buczilla Says:

    I agree whloleheartedly with Ian.

  25. Kentucky Buc Says:

Forgot to add Hall and JTS to the suckage list.

  26. tbbucs3 Says:

    Kentucky Bucs

Most of those players part of the Bucs 2020 superbowl team….try again.

  27. SB~LV Says:

    Brady retires
    Brady returns
    BA retires
    Bowles is empty

  28. Destinjohnny Says:

    Jason licht is the problem
Give Brady the Eagles line and we are packing our bags for the dance

  29. Kentucky Buc Says:

It’s not 2020 when we had more old guys. Gronk Suh JPP AB Mclendon.

  30. SufferingSince76 Says:

We will mourn the day when Tom Brady leaves and you anti-Brady Einstein’s can enjoy the crap football that’s going to be coming our way. Again. You’d rather watch a suck-a$$ team than have Brady at QB. Seek help.

  32. Defense Rules Says:

Buczilla … I wholeheartedly agree with Ian too. The bottom line was right upfront: ‘This Bucs team, he (Beckles) said, is a sorry team full of badly-coached underachievers’.

This is NOT the same team that it was last year or the year before. There have been some MAJOR changes in personnel, and most of them have not been good … well, at least not yet. You don’t replace an Ali Marpet with Goedeke (or Leverett) and expect the same level of performance. Same goes with replacing Jensen with Hainsey, or Gronk with Otton. Replacing Whitehead with Edwards hasn’t worked out either, or Suh with Hicks (or was it Hall?), or JPP with JTS or Shaq with who, Nassib? Fact is we didn’t JUST lose some future HOFers, we also lost their LEADERSHIP, and that’s critical.

For all those bemoaning how bad this coaching staff is (and the results DO in fact stink), this is what you get when you try to do ‘more with less’. BA was the CEO HC; Bowles is & has been a part-time HC. BA had oversight responsibility (de facto) for BL, and he exercised it via his red pen. Who’s got oversight responsibility for him now? Todd Bowles? I think not. Dual-hatting rarely works.

BA knew when to leave. He might’ve been a little ‘flamboyant’ at times, but he’s no fool. He knew full well that even he wouldn’t be able to pull any more rabbits out of the hat with the talent on this year’s team. And neither can Todd Bowles. This team needs a major restructuring to be competitive in the future … personnel and coaching. Unfortunately we’ll probably lose a very competent DC in the process.

  33. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Ian Beckles is right! We are a terrible team right now! Cincinnati is fixing to put an azz whipping on us tomorrow at home, in front of all our Fans.
Winning the division is no longer a certainty.

  34. tbbucs3 Says:

Maybe without an immobile 45 year old QB our offense will go from 17.2 PPG to 18.2?

  35. NEfan Says:

ttsucs3, you defiantly never played this game if you cannot recognize when players quit. All professional premadonas. The young guys today are the worst. Diggs when he played for Minn, Watson, Hopkins, the Lions quit for decades. This is there job, do you jump out of bed totally motivated to go to work? This team with the exception of a few have quit and are perfectly happy collecting their checks. There is NO doubt in my mind some of these injuries are fabricated. Watch, Davis is next, bet on it. By the way, your fossil 45 yr old QB plays injured, he’s no wuss.

  36. Defense Rules Says:

NEfan … ‘There is NO doubt in my mind some of these injuries are fabricated’.

That’s a pretty serious allegation to throw down NEfan. So be SPECIFIC; WHO are you talking about when you said ‘some’?

  37. tbbucs3 Says:

“you defiantly never played this game”

As you type this from your basement…go back to your Patriots reddit pages…NOBODY wants Pats fans around here

  38. LakelandSteve Says:

I know the Glazers don’t like to can a coach after just one year but they better unload this coaching staff. This team is not performing, they have no heart. I know the coaches don’t play but it’s on them. The Buck stops at Bowles. Does anyone think that once Brady leaves, that next year will somehow be better with these coaches? Bowles and crew need to go.

  39. AbucAway Says:

Kentucky Buc- in case you haven’t noticed, we are ‘watching a suck a $$ team’ with Brady. Haven’t you noticed? I’m sure Brady has.

  40. AbucAway Says:

Or was that 76 that typed that? Whatever.

Hey Ian, what’s on that pizza. I know the only thing you should put with pepperoni is green bell peppers. A combination like no other.

  41. unbelievable Says:

    Soft, uninspiring, stubborn coaches.
    Aging star players.
Serious lack of depth outside of WR.
Relying on younger guys who just aren’t stepping up.
And lots and lots of injuries.

It all adds up to a crap team, which is what we are.

And obviously the offense is particular has been incredibly disappointing. I think we could have weathered 1 o-lineman going down plus losing Gronk, but losing 2 o-lineman (and now 3 with Wirfs) was simply too much. Brady doesn’t trust them, and his play shows it. And the total lack of a run game will hurt any QB (see: Jameis Winston), even the GOAT. If we still had a Jensen, there is no doubt in my mind the offense would be averaging another 7 points per game at least.

  42. unbelievable Says:

Maybe by the year 2030 Joe will finally fix this chitty comment system so our posts stop disappearing into the ether all the time.

    So goddamn annoying.

  43. unbelievable Says:

Ah, foot in mouth. Lol. Sorry Joe!

  44. NEfan Says:

DR, specifically the secondary less Winfield. So they’re either packing it in or dog it during conditioning. One or the other this happens way to often. You actually believe this team is playing to their potential, coaching aside? If your answer is NO, they’re dogging it.

  45. adam from ny Says:

as always, ian tells it like it is…

and the scary thing is to imagine if brady wasn’t in there all season and pulling games out his azz…

    we would be 3-10…

you can minus the 2 last second comebacks…saint & rams…

and you can definitely pencil in one more loss along the way…

so we very well could be 3-10 going into the bengals game and teetering at the bottom of the worst division in football…

so we are dam lucky to even be playing close to .500 as of rn

  46. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

Pretty harsh words from Ian but it’s difficult to disagree with anything he said.
The best part of this season is that it will be over in a few weeks.

Personally, I’m fine with JL. He built a team that won a Super Bowl just two years ago and then brought everyone back the following year in an attempt to do it again. Clearly, the windows closing now, and next year will be tough because of the dead cap money, but no way the Glazers are going to can him two years after a championship season.

  47. captivajim Says:

we’ll all see the Titans game by 4th qtr …….

  48. Smashsquatch Says:

Wow, spot on Ian! Bravo, that was some serious Paula Abdul Straight Up talk. Can’t disagree with a thing. This team needs a healthy dose of humble pie, and you my friend, just served it up. Too bad the coaching staff doesn’t have the balls to talk to them like that. BA would be up their arses right now, same as you; but the pampering they receive now makes it worse. Can you please go down to One Buc with a megaphone!

  49. Mike Johnson Says:

Its the entire TEAM. Not just the coaches. Bucs fans get a little uneasy when you talk about Brady. But he has sucked this year. He shares in the blame as well. I think Buc fans should truly kick back and watch a hungry team ball out. You will see that team come Sunday. They be them Bengals. Many are hoping they will over look us. They won’t. They will be ready and firing on all cylinders.

  50. NEfan Says:

Mike no Johnson, do know another player on the team except Brady? Go back and drool in your soup.

  51. Crickett Baker Says:

I believe Bowles is lousy at evaluating players and putting them in the right positions. This was proven to me when he said that Darden did not do anything wrong. He did lots wrong. On his last return (which flashed with me when Bowles said that) he was BACKING up watching the ball roll towards the end zone. It was unbelievable how wrong that was.

  52. EA Says:

Agree with everyone but why did he take it easy on coaches ?????
