“Guys Are Practicing Their Ass Off”

December 15th, 2022

“Clyde, we can’t work much harder than we are. I don’t even have to leave early anymore.”

The fantastic news is that there is no quit in the Buccaneers, according to Tom Brady.
Of course, that makes the cynical side of Joe think if the Bucs are grinding so hard, like Brady said today, then maybe they’re just not as good as they appear on paper or the coaching is as bad as it appears.

Regardless, the NFL’s king of effort and focus, Brady, said “guys are practicing their ass off” and he sounded genuinely proud of what he’s seeing at One Buc Palace.

But with a 6-7 record, all that good practice leads to painful gamedays. “When it doesn’t pay off, it sucks,” Brady said.

Four regular season games can sort of be a lifetime in the NFL. Look at the Lions, who five weeks ago has just squeaked out a win against the miserable Bears to up their record to 3-6. Now they’re 6-7 with big-time wins under the belt and looking like a playoff team.

The 49ers are another example. They were floundering and (gasp!) got pounded by Atlanta earlier this season. Now they’ve reeled off four consecutive wins to up their record to 9-4 and look like a Super Bowl team.

Joe’s got hope that all the Bucs’ hard work has at least a chance of paying off come Wild Card Weekend in mid-January.

Well that’s great news. I’ve been working my ass off for the last 30 flipping years. Go Bucs

  2. Mike Says:

I’m an optimist, but even I can’t be that optimistic about the Bucs chances at this point in the season.

  3. NEfan Says:

Sounds like Brady is taking over AGAIN like 2020.

  4. James Says:

it’s hilarious how so many bucs fans think the season is already over.

this game is an analogy for life. The playoffs = a tournament where all previous rounds are pointless. I believe in the leaders on this team.

  5. LOL Says:

Wish the Bucs were as competitive as the Detroit Lions. LOL

  6. Casual Observer Says:

They have their four all-star wide receivers healthy (I think) for the first time. And two decent running backs. Still a chance to get the offense in synch. Do it!

  7. sasquatch Says:

The players have not been able to overcome a horrible offensive coordinator all season. This is a veteran team, not a bunch of kids learning how to play in the NFL. If they haven’t got things headed in the right direction thus far, I don’t see how it’s just going to turn around over the last 4 games.

  8. NEfan Says:

LOL, how passionate is Dan Campbell? I know it’s not his style but I’d love to see Evan’s get.in someone’s face.

  9. Erik The Viking Says:

We talking about practice? Not a game. practice?

They could look like ass in practice for all we care.

Just win a damn game for the love of God!!!

    LFG!!!

  10. Redeemer Says:

James, I wish that were so. Go look at the history of putrid division winners in the playoffs. They don’t fare well. While it’s not out of the realm they make the playoffs, and win a game, they ain’t going further than that.

  11. unbelievable Says:

What happened to our jumbo sets and max protect formations we used to run? Using an extra offensive lineman, etc.? We did that quite a bit in 2019 and 2020, and it was very effective, especially for play action.

But we’ve barely done it all this year, and I did not see us bring in an extra lineman even once during the SF game. Not once! Against one the best defenses in the league?!?!?

It’s Bruce left and Byron decided to throw out 40% of the playbook and replace it with… nothing. And then today that moron says he knows the offense can score more points… because they did it last year… WTF?!?!? YOU HAD DIFFERENT PLAYERS LAST YEAR.

He’s so clueless and incompetent it’s criminal that he still has a job.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

Are we even going to win the division?? That’s questionable at this point. Might not even make the playoffs. It’s on to next season. This is a dead team playing

  13. Tom Says:

Didn’t Tom brady once say that 90% of the things he says publicly are lies? I think this fall in that range. Tine for Brady to get benched and let someone else take over before they he embarrasses himself yet again.

  14. D-Rok Says:

Based on the way they’ve been playing, my optimism for playoffs (if they make it)has waned in the last few weeks.

HOWEVER, it IS possible for them to start playing better, and that’s all I can ask for, as a fan: BE COMPETITIVE.

    WAKE UP, BUCS!!!!

  15. NEfan Says:

Hey sounds like he’s at least trying.

  16. Jack Sparrow Says:

Working hard is different from playing smart… maybe it’s time to play smart… just a thought….

  17. beano Says:

Joe always finds someone to say how great things are to keep the clicks coming.

  18. Outsider Says:

    Cue famous Allen Iverson interview

  19. captivajim Says:

now, all they have to do is ; PLAY their ass off

  20. Goatfarmer Says:

Practicing hard can actually be bad when the coaches have you practicing the wrong things, the wrong way. Practiced ineptitude yields the ‘rrhea we see oozing on the field.

  21. ClwJB Says:

Why weren’t they doing this 12 weeks ago? Of course they will say they have been, but the results look like they just roll out of bed, smoke a blunt and run into the tunnel

They look lethargic far more often than energetic

They look dazed and confused far more often than sure of themselves

They make tons of mental mistakes in all 3 phases shooting themselves in the foot routinely

They have in less than one season completely imploded

  22. Kidfloflo Says:

Joe, any word on Brady hand? He re-agravated it against niners and was shaking it in noticeable pain

  23. Winky Says:

Approach it like a playoff game boys!

    GO BUCS!!!

  24. Alanbucsfan Says:

If Bucs make playoffs, the likely road to Super Bowl would be through Cowboys, Eagles and 49ers.

  25. Mike Jones Says:

NEfan. 49ers are currently torching the Seahawks. Didn’t you say in another post they would get stomped?

You seem like the kind of person who lives in an alternate reality.

  26. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    unbelievable Says:
“What happened to our jumbo sets and max protect formations we used to run?”
    .
    .

That were appreciably successful, I might add. Apparently, they don’t fit the Bydiot’s philosophy.

  27. Goatfarmer Says:

Duh – I wanna score lotsa points. Duh, I be duh callin plays that score but don’t, derrrr…..we winnin games so duh….can I leeb now?

  28. ChiBuc Says:

Loving the pic of Tom n that lil lapdog. Mr. Proximity to greatness (Peyton, Luck, tom) has never developed a marginal talent.

  29. NEfan Says:

Ya and they’re not used to it so their dropping like flies.
