Great News On Tristan Wirfs

December 6th, 2022

All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs

Yes, there was a big-time update yesterday on Buccaneers All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs, who played cheerleader last night while Josh Wells held down his position.

General manager Jason Licht delivered the great news on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

Wirfs’ high-ankle sprain, the kind that sometimes keeps a player out four to six weeks, appears to be coming along quite well. Per Licht, he expects Wirfs’ injury to be “day-to-day pretty shortly here.”

Maybe that happens this week, but Joe isn’t in a hurry. The Bucs have a 1 1/2-game lead in the NFC South and are in great shape when it comes to tiebreakers. No need to rush back Wirfs and push his ankle against NFL sacks leader Nick Bosa (14 1/2) and the 49ers on Sunday.

Wells more than held his own last night against a good Saints defense and top edge rusher Cameron Jordan.

Forgetting about Sunday, Wirfs healing fast is a phenomenal sign.

    Awesome news

  3. BFFL Says:

Great now move Wirfs to LT and keep Wells at RT

  4. Bucsalltheway Says:

Only if Jensen can have a godspeed recovery this offense will hum without Brady having to climb the pocket every pass that’s not a hurry up offense play. I’m scared Mike Evans might lose his 1k yardage streak.

  5. Bojim Says:

Leave him out Sunday. Don’t need him reinjuring going against Bosa.

  6. Allbuccedup Says:

Exactly BFFL trade Smith for a draft pick in the 2023 draft. Draft an offensive tackle for depth with a mid round pick.

  7. Casual Observer Says:

    BFFL – Good idea.

  8. Mike Says:

Heal fast big man, the Bucs need you!

  9. rashad brown Says:

    Bosa >>>>>>> Jordan

  10. Jeff Says:

He needs 4 weeks to get to 100%. Give him the 4 weeks.

  11. Redeemer Says:

Looked season ending when it happened, so terrific news. It must be quite a mild high ankle. It’s usually 4-6 weeks depending on the grade.

  12. Jeffs Dad Says:

Give mom back her phone jefferey

  13. Woodenman Says:

Jeff what hospital do you practice Med. At that you no more than team doctors?

  14. Bird Says:

Jeff is a troll guys. No need to even give a response. Right now he is yelling “mom meatloaf” in his parents basement

  15. HC Grover Says:

I think if Brady wins out against the Panters and Chickadees they are in the playoffs.

  16. SB Says:

Bffl………….that is akin to asking a QB to learn to throw left handed.
Dude is a Right Tackle. Not a Left Tackle. It would take AT LEAST and entire offseason to come close to perfecting his trade.

  17. BrianBucs Says:

    Donovon Smith Stinks

  18. Kgh4life Says:

There’s Cam Jordan and then you have Bosa, who’s a different player entirely.

  19. kyle Says:

wish our 10 million a year slot receiver had wirfs healing ability…

  20. kyle Says:

and Gage please catch when its thrown to you.. you stink!!

  21. Jonny Says:

Cameron Jordan is no longer a top edge rusher, his best days are well behind him. I still support fully resting Wirfs until he is a 100%. If we cannot win the division because of him missing a couple more games, we should not even bother playing rest of this schedule and simply refund prices for tickets.

  22. SlyPirate Says:

With or without Wirfs, the Bucs aren’t beating the 49ers at home.

But they don’t have a QB! Nobody QBs destroy Bowles’ defenses. Need me to list them?

  23. D-Rok Says:

Good news on Wirfs. Absolutely love his hair in the pic above – it’s all crazy and cool at same time. LOL.

  24. Kentucky Buc Says:

Bosa plays D Smiths side mostly.

  25. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Kentucky Buc

Until he sees Wells on the other side..

  26. Kentucky Buc Says:

Don’t see it happening. The guy on that side is good too.

  27. Gofortheface30 Says:

Nick Bosa is an order of magnitude better than Jordan at this point. Sure no need to rush Wirfs back, if you don’t care about Brady dying of his own death right on the field. Mostly kidding. We will REALLY see where Tampa is these next few weeks with Sam Francisco and then Burrow coming to town looking to throw for about 750 yards on us

  28. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Kentucky

Yup. I see a lot of Brady dirt balls in our future.

Would be nice to try and run tempo and see if you can get SF on their heels. Might be our only chance.

  29. Buccos Says:

Hey guys. Guess what. The Bucs have won 3 out of the last 4. And barely lost the one.

  30. BucU Says:

Yeah Russell Gage has been day to day since training camp so take that w a grain of salt.

  31. unbelievable Says:

49ers pass rush is on a completely different level from the Saints, so good luck to Mr. Wells and co.

I’ll be shocked if D Smith has less than 4 penalties against them.

Hopefully Brady isn’t carried out on a stretcher.

  32. George Says:

The only thing worse than Todd Bowles…………..is Todd Bowles.

  33. Buc50 Says:

Donovan Smith is getting fan reactions like Jeremy “Hands to the face” Trueblood

  34. Kentucky Buc Says:

Hurry up is definitely the best option. Keep them on their heels. Bosa has been known to wear down .

  35. IrishTony Says:

I believe we’ll run the ball quite a bit against Frisco and quite possibly use more play action. Yes we definitely need Wirfs back. This is an important and winnable game. Bowles typically does well against rookie QB’s and they have a game’s worth a tape on the kid They definitely need to build some momentum off the win.

  36. Bucschamp Says:

This guys recovery is amazing from being carted off to day to day pretty shortly.

  38. David Says:

I would not get cozy with the division lead.
They still have only played 4 good halves and couple last second drives of good football on offense.
Now SF and Cincy are upcoming.

  39. captivajim Says:

We’ll need him in the playoffs. I’d let him rest up

  40. TampabayDJ82 Says:

To all the people who are making positive comments on here , thank you for being a good fan . I see we still have a few fake bandwagon fans on here though. Spoiled brats from the last two years. Bucs WILL win the division and nobody wants to play the Bucs with Brady in the playoffs. Go look at Brady’s records with NE . He didn’t win 13 game’s every year ! They were a 10 win team most of the time and yet they won in the playoffs ! Go Bucs

  41. Pete Says:

Best O lineman in football. Any word on Jensen’s return?

  42. Ranger Walker Says:

@SB Wirfs was a left tackle in college actually mate we moved him to right tackle, based on how that went the switch back is likely smooth

  43. Mike Says:

TampabayDJ82: With the Patriots, Brady won 12 games 6 times, 13 games twice, 14 games 4 times and 16 games once! All the rest were either 10 or 11.

  44. Pryda sec 147 Says:

We must do everything possible to make sure Wirfs makes it to the playoffs! That was a huge hole in our game last year.
