Byron Leftwich Won’t Answer Timeout Questions

December 3rd, 2022

Bucs OC Byron Leftwich.

Last week during the “Mistake by the Lake” in Cleveland, the Bucs’ butchering of the final moments of their final drive with the clock ticking down will be discussed, highlighted and lectured for years throughout the country.

In the hundreds of coaching clinics for college and high school coaches each spring and summer, there will be a seminar on how to manage the clock featuring this game. The Bucs not calling timeouts and taking the ball out of the hands of the greatest quarterback of all time and the master of the two-minute drill, Tom Brady, will be highlighted as a perfect example of how not to manage the clock.

Joe hopes Bucs coaches are proud.

Failing Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich was his typical self in yesterday’s news conference, dodging questions if not outright refusing to answer them. Real shining example of accountability there, but hey, he’s been that way for his entire Bucs tenure.

Leftwich was twice asked about not calling timeouts late. Leftwich, in so many words, told reporters to ask Bucs coach Todd Bowles instead.

Bowles did offer that as an assistant, he’s not allowed to call a timeout per league rule. And there, Leftwich is correct. Only the head coach or a player on the field can ask an official for a timeout.

When Leftwich was asked if he was surprised Brady didn’t call a timeout, Leftwich said, “No. Not surprised by anything.”

Joe can understand. Joe’s still surprised Leftwich is employed.

This guy is such a stooge.

  2. Tye Says:

Leftwich has earned his way OUT of Tampa!

  3. CrackWise Says:

AB is the REASON for the SEASON.

Yall see Brown has a warrant out for his arrest in Tampa? He is leaving his OFFICIAL mark in the “Bowls” of Tampa. I’m assuming, he got invited to the wrong house by the “Left-witch”. AND….. Instead of laughing it off like Brady did. He threw a shoe at the homeowner. Just speculating. Kinda like the DEVORCE situation.

    SEE WHAT I DID THERE?

Yall Blame Bruse for AB doing jumping JAX. Truth is, Brown was being handled by a “BOWL” “LeftWith” a TURD

  4. Anonymous Says:

    Game was rigged…period.

  5. SOEbuc Says:

Let’s move on from that. Focus on Saints in Tampa on Monday night with a long list of top tier injuries. Unless Josh Wells pulls a 180, he’s garbage.

  6. 1sparkybuc Says:

This coaching staff is a joke. Clean house now. They have made this team an embarrassment. The Bucs will draft in the top ten. The fowlgoons will win the division, and the Bucs will be lucky to finish third. We consistently lose to teams with lesser talent. The only logical explanation is horrendous coaching. Go to sandlot football with no coaches so we at least have a chance to win a game or two. Brady recognized just how bad these coaches are, and planned his escape. There’s no way he will return to this dumpster fire in 2023. Forget about it. He’s done in Tampa. John McKay could have gone 26 and 2 in his first two seasons with this roster. It makes me sick to watch this talent wasted like it has been.

Why didn’t your boy Brady call timeout?

    You KNOW I agree.

The catch to things being RIGGED is that they can get tangled. ANY FISHERMAN knows this.

That said, IF I WAS FISHING for the fish that was going to win the SUPER BOWL.

Chances are, I would put all my eggs on a PIRATE Ship. ALL Things Considered, especially at this point.

We are either gonna catch MOBIE D**K or we are going to get tied to a whale.

    For the RECORD,

Yall are about to get a FULL FLEDGED ANTIBUC thread.

I have tried SO SO SO Hard to Support this team POST Gruden.

I MIGHT just kill my fandom and yours for real in the coming days.

    LFG

Loosers For Good is about to be a thing.

  11. Crickett Baker Says:

Every single week I hear Bowles and Leftwich say the coaching has got to be better (among all the other things that they cite–or recite as the case seems to be). Every week. So WHY has no one asked them what they are doing to get better since they keep saying it over and over?

  12. Defense Rules Says:

‘When Leftwich was asked if he was surprised Bucs quarterback Tom Brady didn’t call a timeout, Leftwich said, “No. Not surprised by anything.”

THAT’S potentially a very telling statement Joe, dependent upon HOW it was said. Did BL respond just matter-of-factly OR was there a tinge of disgust/sarcasm in his voice? You know as well as I do that there’s ALWAYS more going on than what we get to see. Sometimes HOW someone answers a question tells you more than the actual answer itself and gives you a peek ‘behind the veil’.

  13. HC Grover Says:

Blunder of 1st magnitude by Clown Bowlzo. A 1st magnitude blunder is one that loses an important game.

  14. ClwJB Says:

I can only imagine the illusions going on in this tools head. How on gods green earth does this hack think he has done in this league except be coddled and protected as a back up in his playing days and twice failed at OC without his daddy supervising everything he does.

Yet, he stands before the media and acts as if he is so superior in intellect of the simplest game on the planet…

    Delusion is his middle name

  15. Oneilbuc Says:

I knew Byron Leftwich and Todd Bowles would be the scapegoats to Brady bad play. This site has become a Brady fan club site and not a bucs page . They gave Brady everything he wanted since he been here they gave him more power than the coaches and GM and yall still trying to blame some one else but Brady . Tom Brady is the problem with the offense not the coaches or the play book this is the same plays since 2020 get over it Brady is washed.

  16. SufferingSince76 Says:

Stop it, Oneilbuc. You know good and well the coaches are stinking it up, yet you continue to try to blame Brady alone. You are just making yourself look ridiculous when you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Pathetic, actually.

  17. BucsfanFred Says:

This whole situation is totally effed up!
Fans are upset. I am upset. The whole friggin j leave is upset.
All we can do from here is beat the effin Saints.
I have ample doubts about that, but do or die.
Even if we win … This coaching staff must go.
There’s a shiiteload more I have to say but, it would just get deleted.

  18. BucsfanFred Says:

    Oneilbuc, .. buc you

  19. Darin Says:

Onebuc. You woke up too early just to eat that big bowl of dumbass

  20. Byron Leftwich’s gym teacher Says:

    This guy is an idiot.

Excited to see our anemic play calling and effort on Monday as we watch the greatest underachievement in the NFL.

These talentless clowns should never work again.

Leftwich is a clown who is about to be unemployed unless the Glazers want to lose games and money/fans.

    Flatbrimmed Chump. BUCK FYRON

  21. Allbuccedup Says:

Just another reason this guy is a lifetime coordinator if he ever leaves the bucs he might be a qb coach somewhere.

  22. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Oh-Kneel,

Jus cuz you “identify” wiff the coaches ain’t be no reason to be dissin’ on Tomz.
He ain’t be lookin grate but he ain’t beez da biggest problems we be havin.

Dem coaches ain’t be vury smart.
    Know what I’m sayin?

  23. Kentucky Buc Says:

Doosh lol or as we say back home eff me a runnin. That was hilarious.

  24. Since76 Says:

The bright side is since the glazes decided to keep the coaches 2 or 3 weeks ago. We will have one of the best rosters we have ever had and pick on the top 10. Maybe we could get a QB. The Glazes have to be thinking tank the season. Other wise it means they are……..

  25. Will Says:

@Oneilbuc your last sentence says exactly what the problem is on offense
“These are the same plays from 2020.” NEWSFLASH it’s dang near 2023 this isn’t the same squad or talent level. BL hasn’t adjusted to who he has on THIS team. The guy needs to go.

  26. Kentucky Buc Says:

Joe. For years to come throughout the nation. Eff me a runnin again. Nobody will give a squat about that other than some random Bucs fans after this season. Funny , not doosh level funny but funny.

  27. Your Mom Says:

You actually have to notice things to be surprised by them.

  28. alton green Says:

Yes i’ve been a fan for 6 decades and a brady fan since he was a freshman at Mi. I’ve seen every coach, every DC every OC, so i can say that Bowles is the bottom of the pit. The only play i can think of that was dumber was when Pete Carroll called a pass on the Patriots from the 1 yd line with Marchawn Lynch in the background on 2nd down. If I ask God what he would call i’m sure he would say “is that a real question”? haha Here’s the worst part. The no timeouts deal was one of three bonehead calls in that game. Twice punted on the Browns part of the field. They only need about 10 yds for a FG to win.I’m sure Pete Carroll said “see i’m not the only one”

  29. Reach87 Says:

Who should we bring in? In December. What makes you think that person would do better? Maybe YOU should be the HC or OC? You’ve got a scheme, know all the players, have actually led an NFL practice and been there every day to include a SB win and playoffs last year, right? You know the opponents (based on watching sports center and playing Madden, so why not. Hilarious. Root for the team you claim to be a fan of. Go Bucs!

  30. richbucsfan Says:

…and now we see another part of the internal issues plaguing the Bucs…a very divided and disconnected staff. More to come in the offseason. BL had no intention to effectively coach since he is ‘just’ the OC. He is bitter and chose to do what he could to sabotage the season…and he did.

  31. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

Sick of hearing Leftwich roll out “We gotta be better”, “We gotta coach better” All you hear is the same excuse. Attitude…..We play football on a football field and you fans don’t know whats going on. Press conference is excruciating to watch.

  32. Jeffs Dad Says:

Jaguars should of hired this clown one can dream

  33. A Says:

If you are not going to call a TO after 1st down – then why throw on 2nd down?

  34. D-Rok Says:

    DR,

I watch all the pressers on the Bucs site. In BL’s case, when he said, “No. Not surprised by anything,” I would character his demeanor as either sarcastic, or disgusted. He’s kind of a hard guy to read, and so is Bowles.

Another nugget that caught my attention was BL answered questions multiple times by simply saying, “That’s football.”

A few times I LOL’d at his responses and vernacular, and I actually got kinda pissed at a few of his comments.

IF BL was my boss? I could NOT work for someone like him – too much of a personality clash, I wouldn’t be able to understand what he wanted me to do because he cannot effectively communicate even basic tasks.

    That’s my impression, for what’s it’s worth.

    GO BUCS!!!

  35. D-Rok Says:

    Sorry – *characterize his demeanor…

  36. Just Saying Says:

Hard to communicate effectively with a vocabulary of less than 50 words. That may even be generous in BL’s case. Unless he’s rope-a-doping in pressers he may be the worst communicator I’ve ever seen in a position where communication is essential.

  37. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bowles’ analysis of Browns game –
Too many 3rd and longs, too many 3 and outs,
Too many checks, too many audibles, we need to simplify things for the players so they can execute,
OLine protection broke down in 2nd half
Bowles not calling TO at end of 4th qtr was because he had 0 confidence in the offense and didn’t want to give Browns a chance at last minute game winning FG.
That’s a strategy worth arguing about, but it’s clear he is not happy with Leftwich or the offense.
That’s why Leftwich said, “Ask Bowles”

  38. Couch Fan Says:

This whole coaching staff just seems like a bunch of cowards. They wont admit to any of their own mistakes but have no issues tossing the players right up under that bus to get squished.

  39. NEfan Says:

Oneiltobradysfeet@ you finally figured out how to copy and paste because EVERY post is exactly the same. BL comes off as a genius compared to this guy.

All those questioning why Brady didn’t call the TO, the answer is simple and Bowels answered it in his presser. It’s the HC’s job it’s called Operational football. He is supposed to have geek advisors prompting him, my guess he is so arrogant he either doesn’t listen to them or doesn’t use them. There is NO way this team has fixed anything in a week. This game is all about which team will suck worse.

  40. Anonymous Says:

Bucs should move D White to offense and move O’Neilsucs to BA’s position then they could all be communitatin.

  41. Stormy Says:

It’s Bowles. Period. This is how he coached the Jets and apparently hasn’t learned a damned thing from Arians since.

And to the stooge who thinks this is the same playbook – are you kidding me?!?!

Bowles all but told anyone who would listen- all offseason – that ‘no risk it, no biscuit’ was dead and buried.

If the Glazers have any stones they fire this clown after the season.

  42. captivajim Says:

    the glazers have NO stones

  43. adam from ny Says:

    his presser oozed ignorance

  44. Patrickbucs Says:

    Oneilbuc:

Winston is so much better then Brady, not even close.

  45. Jeff Says:

Clueless Todd and Bumbling Byron. Imagine what the Bucs would have done with a tip coach like Mike Tomlin. They’d be 9-2.

  46. Rudy Says:

That dumb look on his face when answering questions, mouth half open and flat billed cap is a worn out theme. There is no question good enough to make me stick around for his presser. He won’t answer sh!t and what he does say is nonsense and as worthless as he is. I’m forever convinced that those stupid repetitive first down run series are all his retarded scheme. He just needs to vaporize, disappear, f&ck off, or all of the above. An NFL franchise and its fanbase’s playoff hope hangs in the balance and this clown is selfishly squatting on it with a newspaper and a roll of tp. RESIGN, BOZO!!! 💯

  47. Goatfarmer Says:

    Brian Flores or Eric Bienemy.

  48. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

The goat is the goat and that’s why he’s the goat. The goat will overcome. That’s why he’s the goat. So all you negative sob’s stfu, you pos.

  49. firethecannons Says:

FIRE BOWLES AND LEFTWICH AND CLEAN OUT THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF. Next season, lets draft a dual threat quarterback lets talk about that Joe–we are going anywhere with this team thanx to Bowles. He threw that game to Cleveland.

  50. Rob Singer Says:

Obviously Brady didn’t call a timeout because he was told not to. He not the type to go against an order like other hot head QB’s. He has authority to change plays at the LoS only.

Get rid of these affirmative action hires, and let Brady run his offense 100%.

  51. garro Says:

You guys are still gong to these press conferences? The last legitimate news to come out of any Bucs press conference was from BA last season!

The lack of IQ shows as soon as BL opens his mouth BTW. Geez … did he have to do any kind of interviews to get an NFL job?

  52. garro Says:

    @1sparkybuc
    Ditto what you said!
I sat through every home game those years and at least those guys played hard. And to McKays credit he knew he didnt have the personel and just concentrated on coaching the players he had.

Also he would have run some of these rah rah guys off very quickly.
