With The Game On The Line…

November 28th, 2022

Crunch-time spectator.

Yesterday the Browns had a 4th-and-10 in the fourth quarter needing a touchdown to tie from the Bucs’ 12 yard line with 37 seconds remaining.

And what four Buccaneers were on the defensive front for this game-deciding play?

The sad answer is Genard Avery, Logan Hall, Rakeem Nuñez-Roches and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

It’s one thing to fail. It’s another to fail without your best players off the field on the game’s most critical play. And the Bucs had three timeouts in their pocket to align personnel and save time for a Tom Brady final drive, if necessary.

Joe hopes Team Glazer and Jason Licht are miserable that the massive salaries and bodies of Vita Vea and Akiem Hicks got to watch from the sidelines.

This is more & more like a rotten onion. The more layers you peel back, the worse it gets.

  2. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

Joe- The more you find out, the better it gets….It’s pathetic!!!

  3. Mike Says:

It was so ridiculous not calling a timeout on 4th down. That could have made a huge difference for the offense.

  4. Jerseybuc Says:

This is just insane every hour I read something more horrible about yesterday. Last one was didn’t want to throw because he was worried about a pick!!!
You F kidding me he has 2 all year you need the game best QB ever. Get the F out of here I hate this staff and I been around for a lot of bad ones

  5. SufferingSince76 Says:

It just gets better and better.

  6. Steve Says:

So sad is the decision making process that went into the last minutes of ▶ I

  7. Tucker Says:

If you coach scared you have already lost, what a debacle this season has been and it’s absolutely coaching with all they injuries they had they still almost beat the rams last year and now looks at our beloved bucs so sad.

  8. sasquatch Says:

It’s clear that Bowles is in over his head. And the Glazers will probably give him another year to prove he’s incompetent as a HC, when it’s already a safe conclusion. Prepare to suck next year too.

  9. sasquatch Says:

Do the Glazers read JBF and other local Bucs sites?

  10. Kentucky Buc Says:

It takes real coaching talent to coach this much talent. Average at best coaching elite talent doesn’t work. It never has.

    WTF

    Everybody Just Breathe…….lol

  13. Upstate New York Bucs fan Says:

Good afternoon fellow Bucs fans I was there at the game section 104 right behind the bench and I was watching the bench the whole game no enthusiasm no high-fives no hugging nothing sad and waste of my money. Very sad. Unfortunately I think they’ve packed it in. Go Bucs.

  14. Carlos Says:

Couching has let us down again
If the run isn’t there you pass with the goat

  15. Capeaceiskaput Says:

Who cares if they had their backups in during the 4th quarter of a preseason game….oh….wait…what???

  16. Joe Russo Says:

In any business, ect, when diversity is held in higher regard then competency the results are a colossal failure. Fact is fact.

  17. Aceofaerospace Says:

    I want to puke.

  18. Alanbucsfan Says:

    …Plus they didn’t blitz White!

  19. captivajim Says:

bowles is pathetic,, also getting a bit defensive at todays presser…… “he can live with it ” on his decision to not use time outs on our last drive to kick a field goal .. How do you think the players feel -who busts their ass to win ?? I no longer wonder why guys appear to have lost their edge . Like us fans , they can’t change “what coaches think best”….

  20. Bucsfanman Says:

While in the game, and not injured, Vea is one of the most dominant DL in the league.
Sadly, he’s only a part-time player. This has not been an unusual occurrence during his tenure
Hicks? Well, we’ve only recently seen what he can (and can’t) do. Seems to be another “part-timer”.
All in all, Suh covered up so many deficiencies with this DL and seemed to be the lone “full-time” DL we had.

  21. Redeemer Says:

It seems the coaching staff is actively working against the players. For years, Brady racked up win after win against stupid teams. Now he’s on one. The Brady haters want him to manage the timeouts. They want him to be responsible for stopping Garrett. They expect every throw to be a completion. And, all the while manage an offense. Back in new England, all he had to worry about was being a QB. His coaches took care of the rest

  22. Destinjohnny Says:

Vea is 30 pounds over his proper playing weight

  23. tampabuscsbro Says:

    I’m beyond confused.

This was stuff Lovie did late in the 2014 season because it was obvious we were tanking by that point.

Why did this happen in a close game this year?

  24. tampabuscsbro Says:

    Also speaking of Personnel.

Joe, any clue into why the closest thing we have to Mr Reliable this year in Cade Otton barely get any snaps yesterday?

  25. JakeJohnson Says:

    MEANWHILE…

SUH is playing like an absolute beast for the Eagles, and clearly helped them bigtime get wins over the Colts and Packers.

    So, yeah, that’s happening.

But at least we got Russell Gage. Right, guys? Right???

  26. HC Grover Says:

Driving Dale Mabry late at night. Suddenly you get a whiff of it. The smell of a Dead Skunk, Roll up the windows and hold your nose. Yep Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road. Pheeew! They Stink!

  27. John Ocala Says:

The about the decision to not have your 11 best on the field in that situation lies with the person BA and many regulars [on this site] call a football genius….. Todd Bowels. I have never seen football genius decisions come out of this man. Prior to getting the Jets job at the Jets and even as defensive coordinator here. He’s put together some good defensive stands and some good defensive runs. Not getting off the field on third Downs, giving up fourth downs on a regular basis like it’s free popcorn at a movie theater as well as – well there’s just too much. As respect for his position he knows the In-N-Outs of football to a degree that I couldn’t even scratch the surface. But the eye test and common Sense test and also did I mention you can get yours at groove life being a person that’s had to make hard decisions and work with many many many different employees over the years I can see that none of these three coaches have the “it” factor. Unfortunately, bowls is not head coaching material and neither are the other two. Each of them needs someone above them to guide them and be the final decision maker. The truth is not very pleasant but there it is in a nutshell

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I was wondering that about Otton also……wasn’t used….

I don’t blame White for that TD pass…..that was an incredible throw & catch….indefenseible.

  29. Tom Fn Brady Says:

This team has so many issues. The first is the pathetic offensive line. Especially the left side. Donnovan Smith cost us the game and probably Tristan Wirffs because of his stupid penalty. They can’t change protections because Hainsey is inept. This is why so many short passes because the protection can’t hold up. The also can’t run stretch play’s because this line is plain dumb and the o line coach should be fired. This is also we’re you miss gronk is his blocking and red zone presence. This reminds me of 19 season in New England. Brady definitely will not be back with this team next year. He should ask for his out right release. He will not go out like this

  30. John Ocala Says:

*** I screwed that last one up. Sorry folks voice text. And I think a little bit of sports news might have overlapped my comment.
It boils down to the fact that those of us people that are true fans and love this team or sick of this regime…..

  31. Iamabuc Says:

Of all of Bowles blonders during the season, this is the worst of the worst. Don’t tell me that the Glazers and Licht are not seen this every week; specially on this last game.
What is holding them back to take action?
That the real question here. It really pains me to see my beloved BUCS with all this talent go to waste on Brady’s (supposed) last year here. SMFH.

  32. Cobraboy Says:

This coaching staff needs to be flushed.

  33. Jerseybuc Says:

To the jackass using my handle jerseybuc please get your own name. Been using for 10 years on this and other sites.
Come on Joe can’t have copy accounts
    Can you look into this?
    The real Jerseybuc

  34. Will Says:

Joe that’s nothing new. Remember last year with BA as our coach and Washington marching down the field to win the game Vita was a spectator than a well. I have no clue why on a crucial game deciding drive your BEST players aren’t on the field. Smh
I just want someone to ask straight out are you going to fire BL or no? This offense has been terrible all season and he’s made no adjustments it’s time for him to walk the plank.

  35. ClwJB Says:

Let’s lose with our best on the sideline – scared they might get hurt

  36. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Coaching is clearly way over its head here. Basic clock mismanagement with the game on the line, on the nfl level is simply inexcusable. Twice. Joe Russo you hit the nail on the head in my humble opinion.

  37. mark2001 Says:

Can’t win anything this way. Period.

  38. Redeemer Says:

Why is Licht getting a pass? He hired the guy. Did BA sandbag licht into the hire, I wonder. They’ve had some bad luck with injury, no doubt. But Licht is ultimately responsible for this whole mess. Maybe his hands were tied. Idk

  39. Infomeplease Says:

Poor play calling, poor clock management, more bad luck injuries to key players, poor TB12 execution during last drive (he could have called time out and saved some time during last drive, since his coach wasn’t doing it!), and a general lack of effort from he coaches and players when the game was winding down in the 4 th qt and overtime periods. Just sayin!!!!!!!

  40. Infomeplease Says:

    Sad!!!!!!!!!

  41. Rod Munch Says:

Vita wasn’t in the game and is only a part time player because he’s morbidly obese.

I don’t care if he can one arm stop Nick Chubb on 2nd and 9 in the 2nd quarter at the Browns 30 yard line, I care if he stops Nick Chubb in overtime on the goal line, which he did not.

Also there is no way Vita is 350lbs – that was his college weight at the combine when he was in peak condition, he’s probably pushing 380lb or more now. He needs to drop 50lbs so he can be more than a part time player as they didn’t give him a part time player salary.

  42. Eckwood Says:

I said it before the game !! Once Again Bowles his co defensive coordinators didn’t let me down !!
I sure hope that 5 year contract has some voidable years !! You can’t win games with this many clueless executional, personnel and in game operational moves . Man this isn’t one or two or three it’s 5, 10 , 15 a game .

  43. Darin Says:

And to make it all worse they had two weeks to prepare for that disaster! Coaches of the year baby!!

  44. Upthegut Says:

Let’s get some comments from the ownership on what they are going to do this offseason to right the ship!

  45. jehzsa Says:

    Here’s a brilliant idea.

The Bucs should take the field to the tune of Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony (Pathetique).

It should be a hit with the coaches…

  46. Wild Bill Says:

For most of the season I put most of the blame on player turn over and injuries. Then I added blame on the coach calling the plays. But now it is clear that both the head coach and offense coach are twiddle D and twiddle dum. The Blazers need to dump both. NOW! MAYBE Bowles stays on as defense only. He did fine at that job in the past. But it’s time for a clean break. Bring Arians back for the rest of the season as head coach/ offense and select the best they can find for a new defense coach. As of now the Bucs are broken!!! Make a big change or kiss their ass goodbye!

  47. Mike Johnson Says:

I told all of you after the 2 pt loss to the Steeler. This Bucs team is not a SB team this year. Its sad becasue we could still win the division with a losing record.

  48. Chad Miller Says:

How there’s not even a minor change to coaching with this debacle of a nearly 3/4 season is unimaginable. Mismanagement of schemes, players, game clock, lack of team discipline, etc. If it weren’t for the unprecedented Rams, this is the biggest implosion in the NFL this season and could very well be ever if this team somehow blows this awful division. Bowles and Leftwich have screwed up an offense with the best QB ever… would have never even thought it possible and it should not be forgiven by the Glazers. Even if we win the division this staff should all be let go… it wasn’t enough with the gift of talent they were granted.

  49. Hodad Says:

Thank god they had that bonus practice day to prepare.

  50. jehzsa Says:

Looking at the bright side….the Bucs are playing for high draft picks.

  51. adam from ny Says:

the glazers have quietly put manchester united up for sale…

so i would venture to think they are on top of the current bucs’ situation at hand…

granted they are probably bouncing off walls due to the team’s fall from grace this season…

they’ve been pretty much making all the right moves in recent years from top to bottom…

i will have faith they aren’t going to go from:

“the new america’s team to the yucks of yesteryear”…

i see staff adjustments after the season and i can’t see them putting the former team of tom brady into kyle trask’s hands…

things will shake up and shake out for the better…..hopefully…

but the bad news, this season is quickly washing out

  52. Ed Says:

These players are mirroring their head coach, not playing aggressively and making mistakes.

Bowles is an above average coordinator. Once the Bucs let Byron loose he will be a cold fish in the job market. Not getting past the 20 point mark is a failure with this team. There will be no team that can watch the game film of the Buc offense and be impressed.

  53. ElioT Says:

Yeah I don’t think putting Man. U up for sale is freeing up any of the Glazier’s time.

They’ll have auditors crawling up every centimeter of their a**** for a while making sure it’s a sound purchase for any prospective buyer.

The Bucs are a bad football team and they’re going to be much worse come next year.

Think: Texans without all the draft picks, salary cap and even worse QB prospects.

  54. Frank Pillow Says:

Let’s just be honest for a minute—with this HC and OC winning is now an anomaly. I’m just going to lay it out here. We’re not going to win this division. Look at what’s happened. Look who we’ve lost to. This is a team circling the drain. We’re in old in spots, slow in others and not the least bit innovative. I mean how much of this bullspit about being ready for January do you believe at this point?

  55. D-Rok Says:

Players get graded and critiqued for each game. Are there coach grades being handed to Licht or the Glazers? Would love to see coach grades for yesterday’s game.

  56. D-Rok Says:

    *Sarcasm, sort of.

  57. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

By now I’m desensitized to this sh*t show. The Superbowl certainly helped anything after that is gravy. There is no dynasty. It’s over with these coaches were toast. Sucks for our talented players. At least they’re still millionaires for playing a game. They’re not losing sleep trust me

  58. Redeemer Says:

D-Rok, here’s a thought. PFF, or next gen grades for coaches. Even refs have to answer to a pool reporter, to explain and justify the calls they make. They get graded too. Bowles takes zero accountability, and throws his players under the bus. You can’t act like that. The players lose respect for whole process.

Just once I’d love Bowles to say, “this one’s on me guys, I need to coach better, the guys played hard and deserved to win, we need to do a better job of putting them in situations where they can succeed. We haven’t done a good enough job of that.” His players would respect that.

  59. T REX Says:

    Vea is out of shape

    Hicks isn’t very good

Lots of wasted money and snaps

  60. Bojim Says:

Bad decision after bad decisions by the coaches.

  61. Tap-Out Says:

It was Coach’s Decision point blank period…. NNo body is saying at critical times in the game Brady wasn’t BRADY!!

  62. D-Rok Says:

I like that idea, Redeemer, or ANY way to grade coaches. In the real world, we call it a performance evaluation, but it would be beneficial to somehow “standardize” coaching. I’ll email Cynthia Frelund and get her to work on it. 😉
Or, any stat nerd. PFF or NexGen might be a good place to start for a pilot program.

  63. Fansince76 Says:

Vea has had a terrible year does not look like the same player.
looks like he got paid and doesn’t give a S—

  64. DrunkinYbor Says:

It’s my scheme or the highway 🛣️ disgusting cowardly sissy coach. Go coach a sport that ties. Cuz that’s your biotch philosophy

  65. Bojim Says:

Bowles is the boss. It’s on him.

  66. Pcolabucsfan Says:

You wait the entire offseason you can’t wait till the first game of the season you’ve got your teams back we got Tom Brady most of our players are returned and then just a few games into the season screw it it’s done whoever’s decision it was to put ba upstairs with the big wigs they should get the damn pink slip too this is so discouraging nothing to look forward to on Sunday anymore till next September f*** you glazers

  67. Infomeplease Says:

I’ve said this before and think it’s worth repeating! Winning coaches do not “play not to lose”!!! They “play to win”!! Bowles game clock management and during game doubting the abilities of his superstars is no better then doing jumping Jack’s on the sideline and quitting in the middle of the game!!

Time for the Bucs to move on from him!!!

  68. Crickett Baker Says:

Probably why there is no enthusiasm on the bench (as someone observed). The players know that the play calling sux as much or more than we do. Chris Godwin mentioned, “the wrong plays at the wrong time”, once in his interview. I never even saw Otton playing after his great week. This is a catastrophe!

  69. Ed McSherry Says:

Well, the Buccaneers will just have to find a way to win the division and get into the playoffs despite the coaching, because they’re obviously not not going to win anything “because-of” the coaching.
