Tristan Wirfs To Miss 3 Or 4 Games

November 28th, 2022

Tristan Wirfs

The bad news is good news.

It almost looked like All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs broke his leg yesterday in overtime. He was carted off but the news got better in the locker room. Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White even told reporters that he saw Wirfs in the showers and White was sure Wirfs avoided a serious injury.

White was correct. Thank goodness.

Today NFL Network is reporting that Wirfs will miss three or four games with a messed up ankle. Jeremy Fowler of BSPN added that Wirfs has ligament damage but should avoid surgery.

Wirfs is a huge part of the Bucs’ future, but it looks like it will be veteran Josh Wells taking on Saints edge rusher Cameron Jordan next Monday night at The Licht House. Buckle up!

I wish we’d give serious thought to moving him to LT next year and telling Donnie to live with it. He’s still getting LT money

  2. AmauryGuzman Says:

Ligament damage? How can he play around that?

  3. gotbbucs Says:

Sit him for the rest of the year and don’t even think about sending Jensen out into this mess.
Wirfs is a franchise cornerstone. He’ll be moved to left tackle before long and his 2nd contract will probably be one of the highest in league history. Don’t mess with his ankles to try and help out these bums.

  4. Marine Buc Says:

So this offense just got even worse?

Now Brady has to get rid of the ball in 1.5 seconds instead of getting his 2 full seconds?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Oh ya – this is going to be fun to watch.

Sorry for laughing but it prevents me from crying…

  5. Destinjohnny Says:

    Game should have been over
76 with his typical penalties at the end caused this

  6. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Tahmmy might not make the next 3-4 games then; think its time for the offense to run that no huddle up temp offense

  7. EEK Says:

    he is awesome
may not be worth playing him again this season as it is a waste given how poorly and inconsistently this team plays

I still can’t believe that collapse yesterday and it is a reminder of how hopeless it felt after losing 21-3 to garbage Carolina and their 3rd string qb

  8. mark2001 Says:

If the Saints beat us with Dalton at QB next week, and Jameis can get his name stenciled in permanent paint on the bench for at least the rest of the season.

  9. Bojim Says:

Decent news. Don’t play him unless we back into the playoffs.

  10. AmauryGuzman Says:

These coaches should be fired already but they won’t be. Just embarrassing.

  11. Beej Says:

I hate to see Brady going out like this. Most likely losing 27-9 in the first playoff game, if he’s lucky enough to get that far

  12. SufferingSince76 Says:

Put Gabbert in. No need for Tom to go out a cripple.

  13. Vlad The Impaler Says:

Absolutely agree: Bench the GOAT and send in Gabbert to take the fall.
    Tank the season.
    Prepare for life w/o Brady

  14. Vlad The Impaler Says:

At this point we’re talking serious culpable negligence on the part of The Bowles-Witch project.

I’m sure Arians, Licht and Glazers are embarrassed.
At this point they need to swallow their pride and do the right thing
    before more damage is done.

    Incompetence is as incompetence does

well the fans that have been hollering about how putrid the offensive line all year finally get their wish.

The line is about to be as bad as they have claimed it’s been all year.

  18. tampabuscsbro Says:

Also I’m genuinely confused why people seem to believe that moving a left tackle to a right tackle is the same thing as moving a right guard to left guard.

Kind of funny how clueless average fans are about how football works.

  19. SB~LV Says:

Get the surgery and come back next year.

  20. BucsFan81 Says:

This season is done. No need to rush him back and then set him back for 2023. Wirfs and Jenson can stay out until next year. I know a lot of people on here give Donnie crap and want him gone. However is at least decent at times. I know he is known to loaf on some plays. We need offensive line depth this offseason for sure.

  21. ClwJB Says:

The saints are going to kick our ass, mark it down now

200 yards of offense and 10 points max

While Andy carves us up to the tune of 30 points

Our only hope is Dennis Allen seems almost as bad as Toilet Bowles

  22. Cobraboy Says:

Look for 2.1 second Brady releases as Saints embarras Bucs.

  23. WillieG Says:

At least we have an offensive coordinator who can create schemes to help offensive linemen. You know, like he did yesterday with Smith.

(The preceding comment was brought to you by sarcasm. Sarcasm. It’s what’s for breakfast.)

  24. Lakeland Steve Says:

I know he was going against Myles Garrett but Donovan Smith is supposed to be an elite left tackle and he had by far his worse game of the season. He had an illegal motion penalty at a crucial time in the game. He had a hands to the face penalty at a crucial time in the game and he gave up two sacks. We keep getting told that this is an above average O-line. Put a normal QB back there who doesn’t get the ball out in under two seconds and this would be probably a below average line. We will all see next season when God knows who is QB.

  25. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Lakeland Steve

    D. Smith has never been considered an “elite” LT.

We all know he is mediocre. But when the good OTs are making @ $25M per year D. Smith is a cheap fix for @ $18M…

I agree – he had a horrible game yesterday but he typically does against elite pass rushers like M. Garrett.

  26. Anthony Says:

6 games left plus a bye if they are fortunate. By the time there’s a game it would be 7 weeks. I vote for that or sit him till the superbowl if fortunate. Anything less and he will risk more damage. Look at kupp. He’s got surgery 6 to 8 weeks. High ankle sprain. High ankle sprains are not week to week.

  27. Anthony Says:

And by the way calling a timeout with 30 seconds or so left could have
Saved the game and wow no OT. No injury

  28. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

I wonder if babbling Bowles will employ kicking the ball on 3rd down now because we need 2 downs due to bad left tackle blocking.

  29. NEfan Says:

Just enough time for Atlanta to take over the division. Doesn’t Jordan play on Wirfs side? Rams flashback on its way.

  30. Mike Johnson Says:

Donavan Smith got slaughtered on Sunday. He got manhandled repeatedly. I mean on some plays Garrett just blew right past him like he was standing still. Pityful guys.

  31. Manny Says:

Damn we are seriously screwed. The one time we didnt have wirfs in the playoffs, we were awful. Were so freakin screwed it isnt funny. Maybe jason licht can at least grab someone out of free agency who gives us a better chance, and fire leftwich and demote bowles, but hes too much of a coward.

  32. Jeff Says:

This is a 6-8 week injury. Clueless Todd almost cost Wirfs his career.

  33. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    Fire Leftwhich

  34. Bucanero Says:

Glad for him but I finally came to the conclusion that this season is a lost cause due to coaching. I will get excited if Bucs make the tournament and cheer for the Bucs ’til the last snap but expectations are as low as they can be. Nevertheless I expect them to win the division. Anything less than that and I’m re-considering my loyalty. One good thing Bucs could do is to sweep the Saints. At least that!

  35. steele Says:

D Smith was destroyed by Garrett. D has been dinged up all season but the fact remains, he was a turnstile yesterday. Now it’s going to be Josh Wells at RT.

So this is what Brady has in front of him now. A bad D Smith, Leverett, Hainsey, Shaq, Wells.

The pass rushers coming up are salivating. Nick Bosa will have so many doors to blow through, he’ll be confused.
