Tom Brady The Job Saver

November 6th, 2022

“Joel, something’s gotta change.”

The Buccaneers are in first place and JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters is awash in Big Storm beer from the victory celebration.

Life is good. But Joe needs an N95 mask to avoid the stench of tonight’s miserable football game and the quart of deodorant Tom Brady sprayed on it in the final seconds.

The Bucs had an 11-day hiatus after getting embarrassed by the Ravens on Oct. 27. No, they didn’t go to the Bahamas for a vacation; coaches stayed at One Buc Palace to self-scout.

You know, they had to figure out how to fix the NFL’s worst running game and the NFL offense that has lost the most production (aka points) from its 2021 total.

And dammit, the Bucs came out against the Rams today as if they had been binge watching Manifest rather than dissecting the film.

It’s like Bucs coaches have been waiting for “a calling” to guide them to saving their offense and it never comes. Or it leads them astray.

In fact, the Bucs offense looked worse tonight than in previous weeks before the final two drives. Todd Bowles handing a celebratory game ball to his rookie punter kind of says it all.

Joe believes major change would have been sparked at One Buc Palace if Brady hadn’t saved the day.

There’s no way a fourth consecutive loss courtesy of an offense reminiscent of the Mike Glennon years would have brought forth another status quo week of “we’re working on it.”

Joe believes Brady saved somebody’s job tonight. Whose job? Joe doesn’t know. But the Bucs didn’t just snatch a win from the jaws of defeat, they preserved continuity and jump-started their confidence.

Tom Brady knows how critical and awesome this win was. Joe hopes the coaching staff does, too, and uses it as its own wakeup call.

A long way to go joe. I wouldn’t celebrate yet. They need to fix their 3rd down problems. 9 for 21 is not good.

  2. ModHairKen Says:

Well, for how long? It’s week to week. Bowles is not out of the woods. Leftwich is deader than all the guys who messed with John Wick’s dog.

  3. Bojim Says:

    It was Brady. Not BL.

  4. Pewter Power Says:

Well if this offense continues the struggle in Germany it’s the perfect time to let him go. Still I don’t think leftwich is the 2023 OC

  5. Beeej Says:

    LOLOL Ken

  6. T REX Says:

a brady miracle should not save anyone’s job

  7. Miller5252 Says:

I’m really starting to think Bowles is pushing this garbage. If not he’s just as guilty for not stopping it. Drive after drive, the same run up the middle was used. You had 10 days off just to decide you wanted to run more up the middle. It’s a joke. If we play like this next week, Seattle is going to throttle the Bucs.

  8. Simeon97 Says:

Going no huddle out of gun early in the 4th was Brady telling the world that he isn’t goi g to let crappy leftwich end his season.

  9. Wild Bill Says:

Now that’s a dam good post Joe. No more excuses for coaches and management! Shake things up before it’s too late! We can win our division and finish the season strong. Bowles is fine with the defense. He needs some big time help with the offense! The Bucs owners and Bowles need to step up big and do what needs to be done.

  10. Rod Munch Says:

It’s a complete disgrace if that last drive saved Leftwich’s job. The last drive was in spite of him, not because of him. The only time the offense moved was in no-huddle, hurry up, they had to attack down the field and not run those stupid, idiotic Leftwich plays. We’re celebrating but the team scored 16 points. That’s terrible. Even Warren Sapp and that all-time great defense asked the offense to score 17 points.

Nothing should change because of that last drive. Leftwich should be gone, he shouldn’t be getting on the plane to Germany. He’s the man responsible for what would be a lost season if the Bucs were in any other division.

  11. Davenport Says:

Bowles & Leftwich should be fired tonight.
A win, yes, but nothing to be proud of… in fact, they should be embarrassed

  12. Wild Bill Says:

Maybe it’s time to bring Arians back on offense and let Bowels focus on defense?

  13. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I agree w miller above. It’s not Arians offense, hitch is what I think BL knows. The runs and screens are so predictable it kills our offense. I was excited for Bowles as our HC, but not anymore. I think Brady should be calling the offense full time.

  14. jb Says:

For Once, I agree whole heartedly with you Joe!

  15. 1#bucsfan Says:

The play calling is bad. Some plays were just mistakes by the players JJ messed up screens were bad calls but blocking was a issue in some of the screens. Hard to block Donald. Generational talent right there. ME13 dropping some passes. Scotty drops a easy TD Godwin n Brady seem to be just a bit off on timing. So not all on BL but he’s deff not helping. Ugly win but it’s a win

  16. Rod Munch Says:

“Tom Brady says he suggested the winning touchdown play to Byron Leftwich and Leftwich said go for it.” – Scott Smith

So, there you go, Leftwich gets no credit for anything. Fire him.

  17. MadMax Says:

Ugly as F win, but a win is a win. But still, a bad team beat a bad team. I was just waiting for an interception or strip fumble to happen at the end the way our luck has been lately. But, surprise i guess. After watching the one millionth run up the gut in the 4th qtr, and one thousand dropped passes, and a heckuva punt that shouldve been challenged, i just kind of checked out till the final minute.

Will this spark a fire? who knows. But I do know BL needs to be demoted to water boy immediately if they want to even attempt a win streak. And Jensen better get back soon….Hainsey was getting clobbered!

  18. 941bucsfan Says:

Lol. Tom Brady didnt save anyones job.. No one was gonna get fired or demoted win or loss. Might as well stop with the fire bowles and leftwich nonsense. Fire them mid season and bring in who? Don’t say BA because you know his loyalty is more to Leftwich and Bowles, than the bucs and Brady. No one is getting fired, regardless of how this season ends

  19. Redeemer Says:

Sit BL next to the emergency exit on the flight to Germany. Oops someone opened the door, hang on!!!did you see anything Tom? Nope, you Mike?, Nope. Anyone else? Nope. He grabbed a parachute and an inflatable raft….

  20. Irishmist Says:

My suggestion is that Leftwich listen to more of Brady’s suggestions.

  21. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Keeping Leftwich will sink this team. Brady’s magic just erased a brutal offensive play calling by Leftwich once again.

  22. Boltsfan17 Says:

No way that win changes anything.

  23. Vlad The Impaler Says:

Might as well stop with the fire bowles and leftwich nonsense. Fire them mid season and bring in who? Don’t say BA because you know his loyalty is more to Leftwich and Bowles, than the bucs and Brady. No one is getting fired, regardless of how this season ends

    Fire Leftwich

  24. Craig Says:

Let Brady fix it, isn’t it your deal?

  25. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    Again:
No way Brady can call all the plays.
No one, not even the GOAT, can be a simultaneous QB and OC.

Fire Leftwich and make Arians OC.
Or at the very least make Arians script an entire game for Leftwich and give Arians a dorect line to Leftys headset

    Or….even better just fore Leftwich.
My dog would be a better OC

  26. T REX Says:

You can fire leftwich easily and replace with Clyde C

No one is untouchable here except Brady(evans looked like trash)

  27. ATLBucsFan Says:

The punter dropped it on the one grassblade line FCOL!! Great punt bad call by the ref.

  28. Please Says:

Man I tried to be in Bowles corner, but the call to not go on 4 and 2 in the first quarter, then go for it 4th and 7ish in the 4th? Not challenging the punt on the 1 cm line? Where is the philosophy? This is head scratching HC choices.

Oh yeah and the OC playcalling sucks (good ol’ dependable screen-for-loss).

  29. ScottyMack Says:

This is an easy fix. After next week’s game in Germany, they just need to tell Leftwich that the plane is leaving three hours after it really is.

  30. sasquatch Says:

Saved Leftwich’s job for at least another week. The outcome doesn’t really mean that Leftwich deserves to keep his job, but the win means he will survive to guide the Bucs to another limp-d!ck output in Munich.

  31. Kentucky Buc Says:

I just really dont get it. WTH is Byron doing? He has to be able to see what’s going on. Nobody’s that dumb. Bowles is either pushing this ground and pound objective or he’s allowing it even when it’s endangering his job. It literally makes zero sense. There has to be more to it. I would pay money to be in the press conference just to ask what the point of running on first down for few if any yards and leaving two downs to get a first. On the few good first down runs they turn around and try it again on second down when you have your opponent at your mercy with play action. Bizarre.

  32. Carl L Says:

Tom Brady threw the game winning touchdown pass…..twice!

  33. Colonel Angus Says:

I see talking heads dogging the Rams defense for falling for the play action fake on the winning TD. In their defense, the Bucs are dumb enough to try and run in that spot. It just may be that Bryons terrible play calling actually worked to our advantage on that play.

  34. SlyPirate Says:

    VS RAMS
    Rushing: 51 yards
    1st Half: 0 TD, 2 FGs
    2nd Half: 1 TD, 1 FG

    2020: #3 offense
    2021: #2 offense
    2022: #24

    Leftwhich has to go.

  35. Cru Jones Says:

Correction: The defense saved jobs today. For 59 minutes Tom Brady and offense were anemic and the defense kept them in the game.

  36. SKBucsFan Says:

The only job Brady saved was his own. If this doesn’t prove to Licht and the Glazers that Leftwich has to go I don’t know what does.

  37. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Before we pulled it out at the very end, Todd Bowles had some very very ugly and weird faces on display.
I could see how he lost his team in New York.
I had a bunch of people over for this game, and every time the camera flashed on Bowles, it creeped out the entire room.
I am Facebook Friends with Chidi Ahanatu who posted on Facebook that he thinks Scotty Miller should play slot full time, and I agree.
Happy for the win of course!

  38. Irishmist Says:

I think we’re going to be seeing more of Scotty Miller because it looked like Julio Jones hurt his foot again. That might mean Tyler Johnson gets activated too. Perryman didn’t do anything worth keeping him active next week.

  39. Coburn Says:

Angus I honestly was worrying the bucs would try to run up the middle.their myself… So many times feels like they mail in calls like that.. almost as if they can’t handle the pressure so just mail it in

  40. Coburn Says:

Chris is was disgusted at Bowles reaction when the drive ended in a bad way (think maybe guy was unblocked? Or was a bad penalty that effectively ended it) and bowles was laughing it off when I remember thinking he should have been livid

  41. Mrsandman Says:

Only a idiot thinks that this game doesnt prove that byron needs to be fired. But bucs are full of idiots

  42. Jeff Says:

The problem I believe to be most important is no halftime adjustments and we get throat punched every week in the 3rd qtr. Real coaches make adjustments and Bowles and Leftwich are either too cocky or too stupid to figure it out

  43. Your Mom Says:

A new head coach and OC at 3-6 might have transformed them into an 11-6 team (who knows)… but 4-5 means the coaches will stay and might have ushered in a 4-13 season.

Time will tell, but it might be way too early to celebrate anything.

Pyrrhic victory is the term I believe.

  44. Pryda…sec 147 Says:

It’s like Brady said we need to find a way to win these next two games get to the by at .500 half the job completed let’s enjoy this win and come back ready to work this week

  45. Manny Says:

Leftwich should have been fired weeks ago. Brady should be the first ever qb/oc and im dead serious. Hes smart as hell and has seen every single offense and defense. I think he would be amazing at it. On another note. How is no one mentioning the fact that brady now sits just 30 passes away from aaron rodgers ridiculous record of 402 straight passes without a pack. Tom now stands at 373. Its a beautiful thing. He used to own this record with 358 whoch he just broke tonight.

  46. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Has Leftwich been fired yet?

  47. JimmyJack Says:

I cant stand this offense. Especially the passing offense.

We are a checkdown offense that cant move the ball in the Redzone. Impotent offense with no ability to make a big play.

Today it felt like Darden was our only chanse to score a TD, thats how bleak it is.

  48. sasquatch Says:

He won’t be fired this week. If they have another sh!t showing and lose to Seattle (expected), he could be toast.

  49. Tye Says:

That win by NO MEANS is credited to Lefty… they won in spite of Lefty!

  50. JimmyJack Says:

I wanna give Todd the Godd a consolation prize. This is a big win. Todd has beaten our 2 biggest foes this season with Saints and Rams.

Sucks we only got 4 wins but at least 2 of team felt pretty good.

  51. FortMyersDave Says:

Sasquatch is right, unless he Bucs do something offensively against Seattle like scoring a first quarter TD and points in general in the first half and then make key adjustments in the second half. I am surprised Leftwich was not dropped after the Carolina game as his level of competence and stubbornness is like old Smitty who mailed it in as DC for Koetter back in 2018 but for whatever reasons, the Glazers have been way too patient with this guy, maybe BA or Bowels have been protecting him, who knows…….

  52. LakelandSteve Says:

Let’s see how smart Bowles and Leftwich are. The Bucs moved the ball on the last drive with Brady throwing to Otten and Scotty. Where was that all night? Where has that been all year. Scotty deserves more playing time even with the dropped touchdown pass. Otten needs more pass plays called for him and passes thrown his way. Less of Lenny and more of White.

  53. C2asante Says:

Hard for some to face facts, Brady saved himself too. The coaching seems lackluster, the play seems uninspired, the play calling is unimaginative and the execution on offense sucks, AND that includes immobile, throw the ball away before I take a hit Brady. I agree he saved jobs with last minute heroics but he bears some share of the responsibility for poor execution too along with an offensive line not blocking or opening running lanes, receivers dropping passes, coach calling predictable games, etc. it’s extremely unfair to place all blame on Coaches when they lose but give all credit to one player when they win. If he is truly God then why isn’t he overcoming the sucky coach and teammates? Maybe it’s because at 45, frail and slow, he is a decent QB but not the best anymore.

  54. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

    Just win baby!

  55. Rand Says:

They still are trying to run the ball through the left side of the line. I saw them once run through RG RT. Also In the beginning of the game Brady was finally throwing his signature slant passes for decent completion yards. Then all of a sudden with that success Brady never threw another slant. What gives?

  56. Rand Says:

also that behind the line pass sucks. Seems as though they never pickup any yards.

  57. Tbbucs3 Says:

I really believe that if the Sucs didn’t win tonight then Leftwhich would’ve been fired….

But the way Brady and Leftwhich celebrated after the game there’s not a chance Leftwhich is gone this week.

The only hope is that he’ll be able to adjust

  58. Will Says:

BL can’t call plays that make any sense after he done with his script. With all the screens I’m waiting for a fake screen and go but I guess that takes too much imagination.
White deserves more plays on offense and I can’t believe we actually had a play with White and Vaughn in backfield together. Open up the playbook Scotty needs more time in the slot as well even though he dropped a TD I like what I saw from him tonight.

  59. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I don’t think he saved anyone’s job. If anything…he should be offered Bowles job.

  60. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    C2asante Says
“Hard for some to face facts, Brady saved himself too.”

I doubt his job is on the line. If Bowles AND Leftwich get fired, Arians will step in until the end of season. He’d want Brady.

  61. adam from ny Says:

    the offense is impotent…

seem like i’m watching something worse than dungy-ball…

we scored no points and tommy b threw the bucs on his back with 45 seconds to go…

    a win’s a win — and we needed this bad…

leftwitch needed this more than anyone, yet those last 45 seconds had nothing to do with him…

he scored another zero for the game plan…

but we won, so for the moment everyone is happily glazed like a donut — and oddly enough, we’re in first place

  62. adam from ny Says:

rod’s post…his first post on the thread is on point…

also, maybe this win will get us going…and jumpstart something…

anything is possible with a good defense and tommy b…

hicks coming back was big, and helped vita to shine as well…

also i couldn’t believe they almost ran the same cooper kupp play as in the playoff game for their long touchdown

  63. CalBucsFan Says:

TB saved OC BL’s job for at least one more week. The play calling is so damn predictable, game after game. Run up the gut on 1st down, throw a 2-yd dump off pass on 2nd and then pray someone can get open over the middle on 3rd to get a 1st down.

BA swore BL was calling the plays last year, but either he was being truthful or HC Bowles has canceled out half of BAs grooming of BL because this offense has been castrated.

Lucky to win today for sure, thanks Tom!

  64. DungyDance Says:

Dang it. I was really hoping for another miracle when I woke up this morning. Starting the day with a let down here – BL is still employed.

  65. Ash Says:

The win shouldn’t save BL’s job that play calling before the last drive was abysmal. It probably will save his job for the season but it shouldn’t BL is in way over his head it is very clear. When tony Romo is calling a better game in the booth it’s time to find someone else hey Tony you looking for an oc job?

  66. D-Rok Says:

I don’t want, nor care, if Leftwhich is fired. I want the play-calling to change, and it’s as simple as that for this fan.

  67. Listnfrmafar Says:

C2, 7 dropped passes one for an obvious TD, Otton one the one yard line. Holding penalties and look out blocks allowing Donald free shots, yet for 44 seconds he showed why he is the GOAT. I believe that was his 55th career winning drive. Allen couldn’t do it yesterday against the Jets and he had more time. Obviously it wasn’t just Brady but his determination is contagious and at the end of that game both sides of the ball and ST’s were jacked. This teamed lacked that and stoic Bowles doesn’t help this, his attitude actually diffuses it. I would of thought he’d be jumping through the stadium roof but no just a pat on the back and a half smile. F him, at least no.matter how awful BL is, he showed emotion. Fire Bowels and let Brady pull BL’s puppet strings.

  68. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Fire Leftwich, let Goodwin or Christensen call plays.

  69. PSK Bucs Fan Says:

The offense is so predictable, everyone in the stands knew when we were running so damn sure the Rams did too. I even heard a chant “Fire Byron”. Oh yeah that was me………..

  70. T.J. Says:

Byron still needs to go!! 🤙
