Todd Bowles: Total Letdown By Bucs

November 27th, 2022

Messages not getting through?

Yeah, the Bucs didn’t play great. They surely didn’t get help from their trusted, accountable coaches along the sidelines, either.

Why is that? Well, just about the same things that have happened in the previous five losses also happened today during the overtime loss in Cleveland. Bucs coach Todd Bowles recounted the areas where the Bucs made mistakes.

Every core element of the team played poorly, Bowles believes.

“We had so much in all three phases that lost this ballgame,” he said. “We didn’t play smart. We didn’t play good football. We didn’t play sound football and we let things go.”

That sure sounds like coaching problems. If the same things are happening time and again, either you have bad coaches or you have dumb players who don’t understand how to correct things.

You tell Joe: The Bucs were a smart team for two years and won a Super Bowl and 29 total games. Then your head coach retires and the team turns dumb overnight?

Go ahead and connect the dots.

Joe is following the breadcrumbs and it sure seems as if too many players have tuned out the coaches.

To be fair, the defense was not the problem today. You go on the road and hold your opponent to 17 points, that should be enough for a team with an offense loaded with stars.

It sure smells like a certain offensive coordinator is way over his head without his blankie.

  1. Tom Sumner Says:

Fire Todd bowles.. he is not a good head coach… period… Bring back Brucceee! !

  2. Don’t listen to what he Says:

Dogsh*t team with a probowl roster. That is poor coaching. Sorry Todd. You are a great DC. You are not effective or good as a head coach.

  3. Jo_mama Says:

I hope Brady goes to San Francisco and wins 2 more super bowls.

Bucs Fans are not worthy to even sniff his Jock.

You should be ashamed of your comments but they would take the ability at self reflection.

  4. Eckwood Says:

All Traits of Bowles as a Head Coach !!! Bizzare how these Coa he’s try and blame the play When they are the PLAYA n CHARGE !!!

  5. Todd Says:

    FIRE the ball boy!

Too much air in the balls!!!

  6. Coburn Says:

No idea why only Godwin ever seems to get routes in the middle of the field. Why does Evans always have to run deep Deon the sideline every route? Feels like a waste of his talents. Dude didn’t even run any of those routes formthr first few years in this league.. made a killing catching shorter to intermediate stuff or over the middle… Too predictable and not helping him. And where was cade otton who seemed to be emerging? Bredhad perriman isn’t very good. He just has one or two good plays eevry now and then

  7. jehzsa Says:

To be fair, the coaches are only projecting their inner Leeman Bennett(s).

  8. GABucsFan Says:

Joe, next poll. How many loses before Bowels is fired?

  9. Jmarkbuc Says:

Coaches are there to get teams ready to play, allegedly.

  10. GABucsFan Says:

Firing Bowels is the only chance we have for Brady playing another year as a Buc. Keeping Brady may lure a decent offensive minded coach. Have to get rid of “I don’t want a biscuit so lets not risk it” Bowels.

  11. BrianBucs Says:

Joe, I know that everybody has been calling for Leftwich’s head for a while now but you have to remember that Byron is running Bowles’ offense, the offense he is told to run.
Bowles is the total opposite of Arians. He wants to run the ball, throw short safe passes , eat up the clock by possessing the ball and keeping his defense off of the field (remember the Dungy days?)
Byron is just doing what he is told while we all watch Bowles waste Tom Brady.
This is the same Leftwich that won a Superbowl 2 years ago and whose team led the league in scoring last season. He didn’t go stupid overnight.
Byron is running Bowles’ offense under the parameters he is given

  12. NEfan Says:

HE DIDN’T CALL THE TIMEOUT in regulation!!!! That why you lost the game!!! WTF they only needed another 10 yards to get in FG range. You wussed out on 4th & 2!!! This one’s on you 2 time loser Bowels.

  13. BrianBucs Says:

Let’s keep things in perspective here.

  14. DungyDance Says:

This season is over. The Bucs are simply a bad team. Leftwich should have been fired a month ago, but that’s water under the bridge now. The division is a dumpster behind a fast food joint, surrounded by flocking seagulls edging to get dibs for the trash on top. And if the players eke out a postseason appearance in spite of this awful coaching, the seagull that is this team will get swatted right out of the first round. Time to lower expectations, accept the inevitable.

  15. HawaiianBuc Says:

    #Bowlesout #Leftwichout

  16. Pewter Power Says:

If Bowles is calling plays he needs to stop and focus on the team and game management. He is in over his head.

  17. HC Grover Says:

Once the Glazers get the 7 Billion for their Kickball Team maybe they will get rid of the Clown Show and get good coaches.

  18. August 1976 Buc Says:

    L E E M A N B E N N E T’S BEEN RESURRECTED AS THE BUCS HC

STENCH 💩 OF FIRST LOST DECADE OF THE MID 1980’S TO MID 90’s

    💩 💩 🏈

  19. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

JBs fan will be feeling it after Brady leaves after this year because the Bucs will go back to being non relevant again. I hope you have another team to follow bud

  20. Thadeus Says:

What another horrible coaching debacle. Something needs to change.
But there is a bright side. The GOAT will be playing for my Dolphins next season with Sean Payton as head coach !!!!

  21. Nprbuc Says:

Look in the mirror Mr Bowles and you will find the problem with the Bucs. It isn’t on the field!

  22. Merryplankster777 Says:

We specialize in goofing on cupcake games (as someone called em earlier)… which means when the tough gets tough the old bird will Dominate!

Phoenix style… in Tampa, & not by the time I get to Az, iced tea.

Lets stay positive NFC south, formerly Central… missin the old Black & Blue Div.

David devastated that TAILS coin call, with confidence & a Helmet on.. So it ain’t all bad! Lets Go Bucs!!!!

  23. Redeemer Says:

Brian, good point. Bowles wants to win like the 2018 Patriots. Two problems with that. The bucs have a much more talented receiving corps, and they don’t have the O line to mash people. Teams should always play to their strengths. This whole year looks like square peg round hole. Way to go Todd. You just wasted Brady’s last year, because you’re either too stupid or arrogant to admit your way isn’t working. Career coordinator. Licht deserves some blame too. After all, he hired the guy

  24. Nprbuc Says:

I’m furious that Bowles throws HIS team under the bus for his failure as the HC. What kind of a guy would do that? It’s no wonder he is losing a very competent and capable team. It’s on YOU Bowels on Leftnut!

  25. Kurt Says:

Coaching like Dilfer is behind center. Seen this B4! You paid him trust him! Arians did!

  26. Crickett Baker Says:

Bowles must have been sleeping or else how could he NOT call the first time out at the near end of regulation? Did he just forget how much Tom can do with 10 seconds? Was he just no riskit and settling for apparent overtime? Was he possessed by a demon?

  27. Caleb Says:

He’s clueless and needs to go as much as Leftwich. Not a good head coach.

  28. HC Grover Says:

Bowles pointing fingers is going to spread to infighting in the locker room.

  29. Melmcclell Says:

EXACTLY, 100% What I Said, as soon as I heard him give THAT Answer… “ALL THREE Phases.” Tho, REALLY There Are ‘FOUR’ – When You Count THE (so-called) COACHING!!!! And, REALLYYYYY… Did y’all here THAT Response, To ‘The Question About NOT Calling Your Timeouts While On DEFENSE At The End Of ‘Regulation!?’ HE SERIOUSLY, HAD TO ‘Confirm’ FIRST, That The Reporter Was NOT Talking About When On OFFENSE… Can You Believe THATTTTT!?!?!?! HIS RESPONSE Was (‘mumbling-bumbling’) Something Like, “No, Didn’t Really Matter, Time Was Gonna Run-Out On THEM Anyway,” Or Something… IDK!? Unbelievable. Inexcusable.

  30. WTFBucFan Says:

Bowles does not deserve to be the Buc’s head coach. With 24 seconds left in the 4th quarter with 3 time outs and the ball on the 26 yard line this moron does not call time. It was a good chance Brady could have put us in field goal range to win the game. Instead we wind up going to OT resulting not only a loss but injury to Tristan Wirfs. It’s time Buc’s management adopt a truth in advertisement program and require Bowles and Leftwich to wear clown suits on the sideline.

And by the way, we need to forget about the playoff’s as any opponent will out coach us and eat our lunch.

  31. Kurt Says:

Calling the game like Dilfer is QB! Have the nutsack to let him win the game! Arians did!

  32. Anonymous Says:

He left out the coaching shortcomings .

  33. Jerseybuc Says:

😂😂😂thadeus. Yea ok. So Miami is giving up a young QB with a coach who has them winning. He might not be back in Tampa but sure he’ll won’t be with the dolphins

  34. Mark2001 Says:

Let down? That is all on you coach. New York Jets part 2.

  35. NEfan Says:

Hey, where is the invisible man BA now? Last two weeks you couldn’t shut him up.

  36. Mark2001 Says:

He should be taking it on his shoulders…I didn’t have them prepared to play. That is what a good coach would say in that situation.

  37. Darin Says:

Yes coach toilet you let us all down. Again. Fire the OC so we can start just blaming you

  38. Pelsbuc61 Says:

BA is not coming back. He and the Glazers created this mess. Brady is not going to the 49ers. Bucs will not make the playoffs and hopefully the Glazers will realize what all of us have been witnessing. This team has quit on the coaches and is playing out the season. There’s no heart, desire or nastiness on either side of the ball. Bowles and Leftwich have taken the life out of this franchise. Eat the contracts and find a coach that know what he’s doing.

  39. Oviedo Jim Says:

Winning can be boring if your A lifelong buc fan.
It becomes more interesting if they lose.
More discussion and theorizing . More beers to to decipher plays and the apparent stupidty of management . Think about it. Losing was expected but winning @ game now and then was golden and exciting
Every game was like a playoff game when it was far from it. What draft position do you think we’ll have in 2023? Great isn’t it. Buc football never stops.

  40. Melmcclell Says:

I don’t believe that it’d EVER even occurred to him to use any of his timeouts when on DEFENSE there, in the first-place… NEVER, even crossed HIS Mind!!!! It’s UNBELIEVABLE… I mean, I’ve known THAT, since I was FOURTEEN YEARS OLDDDD, playing Maddon!!!! WHAT. THE…

  41. Melmcclell Says:

TWO of those ‘timeouts’ shoulda been used on DEFENSE… One, MINIMUM. PERIOD. End of Story. Shouldn’t even have had 3… ‘THREE’ Timeouts left with THE BALL, anyway. There ‘shoulda’ been about a 1:18 left, & WITH The Ball. PERIOD.

  42. Melmcclell Says:

AND, with 1-Timeout STILL Left. PERIOD.

  43. Randytampa Says:

Bruce is still in the payroll get him back as head coach, I don’t know why everyone thinks the defense played good, they didn’t, yes tb12 made a few bad passes but he was running for his life. What irks me is when we should of took a time out when we should have, Tom can do miracles with that 13 seconds. I ljust couldn’t watch football the rest of the day.

  44. HC Grover Says:

Point of no return. They will lose to the Stanks at home and that will be the end.

  45. LastDance Says:

Hey, where is the invisible man BA now? Last two weeks you couldn’t shut him up.

Yeah man. BA not running his dammm mouth after his Boyz look so fookin outclassed by CLEVELAND

  46. Rod Munch Says:

Randytampa – as the Joe’s said, you only give up 17 points in regulation in 2022, that’s a very good game. Also, the defense was constantly put back out on the field because of Leftwich and his all of this three and outs.

Defense wasn’t an issue today. Even if they weren’t great, they did their job.

  47. steele Says:

Redeemer, I agree. Whether it’s Bowles or Left forcing a ball-control/smashmouth/defense-carries-the-team style, it doesn’t work if you don’t have the personnel to execute it. Bucs clearly don’t this season.

On the flipside, the “Risk It Biskit” thing doesn’t work with the current team, either. Only a very creative coaching staff that knows how to get moderate quality to overachieve can make something out of this mess.

  48. Redeemer Says:

I have serious doubts this team can even win the stinking south. They’ve been thoroughly out coached in nearly every game. Now with TW out it’ll be that much harder. Brady needs a come to Jesus meeting with Bowles and BL. There way isn’t working. Brady needs to call his own game from the huddle. Either that, or just do the opposite of what’s in his headset.

  49. Redeemer Says:

    Their way

  50. mark2001 Says:

Bruce is partially to blame. He knew Brady had one more year. And rather than be the HC one more year, he uses the team… Bucs fans…the Glazers… as recipients of his grand experiment. You screwed us Bruce…this team…this franchise. Thanks for the SB victory, but time to make yourself and Bowles, scarce.

  51. G-Buc Says:

    #Free Bruce

  52. Eckwood Says:

I CLEARLY stated it ( Bowles) Before the Game for a Reason !!

BTW JTS is the second coming of Eric Curry and should never EVER see the field on first or second down !! I don’t think the fans totally understand how bad a player this guy is !! He’s fast, he’s athletic…. But he weak , weak mentally, over runs plays worse than Curry and GMC and just flat out doesn’t have any , I mean no Dog in him !!! This Guy in person is so bad it’s literally a total fan Rip Off !!! Seriously , I promise he is not Good At All !!! Beckles will go Nuts on Him after this Joke Act !! Quit paying Attention to his one or two good plays , watch his 30 disgusting plays ……….. It’s So So Bad !!!

  53. August 1976 Buc Says:

So Bruce is to blame…..NOT!!!! J licht hired someone who is just not a good fit as a head coach.

    Not everyone is.

The sooner he is gone the better.

But until then, we see what it will be like.Bad Jets 2.0 version. Now the Jets 2022 is not bad, but this is T Bowles Jets version.

Sorry Todd, but you just are not good as a head coach.

  54. chark Says:

Guess i am not allowed to post links to video…but bowles should have called a timeout after evans catch called out of bounds at 50 something second mark before the 1st half ended, Bucs would have had the ball at the 1 yard line!! It appears evans made an excellent catch..it is a shame Bowles wasted(by not using them) timeouts at pivotal moments in game

  55. fwfan Says:

All the Bucs need to do is win the next game and the super bowl talk will return from the local media that covers the team and all the fans.

  56. AmauryGuzman Says:

Waste of a season with this coaching staff. Management won’t make a chance this season which means this team is dead.

  57. alton d green Says:

NEfan you nailed it. I’ve been a career Brady fan. That dumbass weekend at Bernies coach stood there wan watched 13 seconds, an additional 13 seconds to gain 10 more yards????????????????????? Someone asked how many losses untill they fire Bowles. In reality; 5. he should be on his way to cold-ass Buffalo right now

  58. Your Mom Says:

For lifelong Buccaneer fans, we’ve all been through this clown show many times. You can smell when a coach is garbage, and it never corrects itself, it only gets worse and worse until eventually the owners have to act.

5-6 would be at the bottom of some divisions in the NFL right now. To do that with the talent on this team is disgraceful.

Fire the coach and the offensive coordinator tonight. How much worse could things get really? What have you got to lose?

  59. EEK Says:

    Agree.
    Wasted season

If you can’t stop 4th and 9 with the game on the line against a garbage team you don’t deserve to win.

If you can’t get a first down with a 7 point lead and 2 min and change left you are a loser team.

    Ugh.

    So putrid.

  60. Cometowin2 Says:

Worst coaching staff since Leeman Bennett and Ray Perkins. Afraid to go at 4th and 2 from the Brown’s 37. If I was the Glazers I would make a change just for that not to even speak on the miss use of the timeouts. What ever happened to No risk it No biscuit??? Definitely was Arians philosophy not Bowles.

I’ve seen virtually every Buc game ever and never have I seen such a miss use of talent. I originally thought it was Leftwich but this has Bowles fingerprints all over it. Clean house of this pathetic coaching staff.

  61. Boltsfan17 Says:

Excuse me but this trash defense gave up 180+ yards on the ground. It sucks as bad as the coaches and the offense. No unit, coach or player gets a pass.

  62. Bucsfan13 Says:

Too bad Brady just won’t admit that he’s not play at 100%. He hasn’t been the same since he hurt his finger and shoulder. He’s not gonna make excuses. Remember when he and team hid that he had a torn MCL during the 2020 season? He was also off on some of those deep throws. He could have someone leak it like Rodgers, but he doesn’t want excuses.

  63. Bucsfan13 Says:

On his podcast, Brady has been speaking glowingly of Belichick and his coaching prowess. He’s done this mostly unprompted. This isn’t by mistake. He’s very calculated. I promise you he will bring up Beichick on his next podcast. Brady wants to be coached hard!! His former OCs in NE all say the same thing. He wants interaction from his OC on the sideline. McDaniels and O’Brien would sit on the sideline with Brady and work through stuff. Now you have Gabbert and Brady looking at tablets. NE also had the receivers sit by Brady on the sidelines. The Browns had the worse run defense in the NFL and couldn’t do squat.

  64. Redeemer Says:

Steele, they like to say coaching doesn’t matter, it’s the talent. That may be true if you have an average to above average coach. These boobs are just so bad, that they’re actually dragging down the talent around them. For Christ sake, I’d bet money you or I could call better plays. Just give me that big cheesecake factory menu, and the goat? Zero excuse for this O not averaging at least 24ppg.

  65. SOEbuc Says:

If people want to fire Bowles and BL, Donovan Smith should be on the same plane. He is garbage!!! Doesn’t matter that it was Garrett being the best, Smith will get ran around on the outside by the worst. Always is near the top in NFL penalties and always at the perfect time.

  66. unbelievable Says:

Brady was hardly the problem today. He had 3 bad throws all day. At one point he was like 22/26, and 2 of those were drops.

The problem with Bowles is he’s a good coordinator and his defense is still playing pretty well. But he’s not head coach material. He’s responsible for the offense too, as well as special teams, and clock management. And those are all massively underperforming, and there has been zero accountability on fixing it.

  67. Bucsfan13 Says:

We have talent at the skill positions outside of TE, but below average talent on OL and now it’s worse with Wirfs out. Mahomes looked like a mere mortal in the SB with that bad OL. Bowles has more say in this offense than you think. The offense will lose the locker room if they continue to put up those putrid numbers. It’s happening in Denver right now. Brady commands more respect than Wilson, so it won’t get out of hand. Let’s be honest, Brady knows this season is over after Wirfs went down. You have an average LT,LG,C. RG is above average, and Wells is just flat out bad. Good coaches play to the strength of their players. Low percentage deep shots is flat out dumb!!

I hate AB, but he was the best receiver on this team last year. The guy got constant separation on the outside. Godwin is the best and most consistent WR on this team right now, and no one wants to admit it. Godwin should’ve got at least 20 targets this game. Evans was a no show, but he has to have his targets, regardless of his lazy play today and most of this season.

When Brady joined us, I thought I was getting the throw to the open man regardless of the name on the back of this jersey. Instead I’ve been getting YOLO Brady some games. Brady seems to be under the impression that Evans is Randy Moss. He doesn’t have the skill set of Moss or the football IQ. This team will absolutely get embarrassed AGAIN on Monday night against the Saints. The Saints will be gunning for our knees all game. Receivers will play tentatively and Brady will dirt the ball to avoid an ACL injury.

  68. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Soe. I agree. Donovan was bad this game. He was getting beat immediately that even Brady couldn’t work around it. Brady’s pretty good at avoiding edge pressure, but Smith was a liability this game. Josh Wells gives me nightmares. He was awful against Dallas this year, and I still have nightmares about the Rams game last year when he replaced Wirfs. That great run performance against Seattle was a fluke. Did you see what LV did against them today? Josh Jacobs had a field day. This team never turned the corner.

  69. HC Grover Says:

    Todd Bowles….The Bucs stop here.

  70. Hodad Says:

What will it take to get this staff fired is the only thing that matters anymore this season. Lets face it, this team is done. Don’t care if they make the playoffs winning a crap division. They’ll get pummeled at home in the first round. What will it take to get this staff fired is all I care about now.

  71. BUC CHEEKS Says:

    GTFO

  72. mark2001 Says:

Once again…the team totally “let down” by the “coaching staff”.

  73. Fitz Says:

Watching Brady play for many years I took it as a given that whatever problems the team was encountering during the game would be corrected by making adjustments as the game went on. I just took it for granted that the coaches knew what they were doing. On the rare occasions that the coaching fell short Bellichick would take blame and say they work to get better. After watching the Buc’s this year I see that the coaches just are not up to the task and don’t even recognize that they are a big part of the problem. Offensive play calling and special teams have been terrible and aren’t getting better. Game management by the head coach has been terrible. The owners need to get involved as the games are getting to painful to watch

  74. firethecannons Says:

NEfan says; HE DIDN’T CALL THE TIMEOUT in regulation!!!!

all we needed was another 10-20 yds for a winning field goal–Joe please ask these losers in the press conference about this–they act as if personally their sh1t does not stink and they do not hold themselves accountable–why no time out? why not?

  75. Browsing from DC Says:

Bucs have the ball, a 7 point lead, a little over 2 minutes left in the game and the Browns are down to one timeout and the 2 minute warning. Any team would love that situation. The game is yours to lose, especially with the talent the Bucs have on offense. You can credit the Browns’ defense, but the Bucs offense, including Brady, were awful. They should have iced the game but they deserved to lose. That was NOT how a playoff team performs in the clutch.

Not calling their 1st of 3 timeouts until nearly all of the time on the clock expired at the end of regulation was flat out stupid and lies at Bowles’ feet but I can’t let Brady off the hook either. He’s defied coaches in the past and called timeouts and should have done so yesterday. He knows the drill better than anyone. Inexcusable. Again, they deserved to lose that game and if that’s STILL where we are after 11 games, they have no business in the playoffs and no chance once they get there. IF they get there.

Now losing Wirfs for who knows how long might spell the end for the Bucs’ chances.

Give the Browns and Brissett credit. They drove the field and made the plays with under 2 minutes remaining to tie it up and again made the plays to win it in OT. That’s what a playoff-bound team does, not a 3-7 team.

Bucs had their chances early and often to pad their lead and it seemed that every “gotta have it” completion was missed and missed badly by Brady. Very uncharacteristic play by him yesterday. Stats will show a 67% completion rate and 97.6 passer rating but those misses all seemed to come in clutch situations. They weren’t drops or miscommunication, just bad throws. Don’t get me started on all of the 3-and-outs.

Arians would be reaming these guys arses this week. Bowles, meh.

They haven’t lost me yet because of the talent they have but damn. C’mon guys. Let’s just hope early reports on Wirfs (negative xrays) and hopefully a negative MRI will only cause the big fella to miss a game or 2. Fingers crossed.

  76. Bucamania Says:

Todd Bowles is not head coach material, plain and simple. This team looks terrible.

Also terrible are Brate and JTS.

  77. alton d green Says:

my friends the Bucs are not a bad team. you have a moronic coach that is the result of affirmative action and the woke nuts, then the same for Lefty and the same for for Armstrong (special teams) so what do we do to save the season? we put duct over Todd’s, leftys and armstrong’s mouth and put blinders on Tom so he can’t see the dumn coaches
