The Money Down Difference

November 13th, 2022

“It’s easy today, Byron.”

Man, Joe is fired up with the Bucs heading into their bye week without limping, instead pumping their fists high coming off this morning’s powerful performance against a good team.

There are many Bucs heroes from the win against the Seahawks, but the story was on third down. Seattle was 1-for-9 on third-down conversions while the Bucs were a stunning 10-of-15.

A big reason was the Bucs staying out of 3rd-and-too-long, and Tom Brady was hit just once all day. Once! And he wasn’t sacked.

Frankly, the Bucs made it look easy when they weren’t running a trick play and when Brady wasn’t serving up his second pick of the season — and a bad over-the-middle pick it was.

Joe had strong arguments during this game at Big Storm Brewery in Clearwater about the quality of the Bucs’ pass blocking. There are varying opinions out there. But the numbers tell most of the story, especially today.

The third-down-defense was aggressive and on point. The return of Antoine Winfield sure made a difference and the suffocating run defense set up the money down success.

Thriving on third down without Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett is a fantastic sign for Tampa Bay’s postseason hopes.

Offensive play calling is still severely lacking but the execution was spot-on.
Bowles did a better job motivating these guys.
Bowles #1 job is to demand respect and to motivate.
    Discipline.

  2. Dirty Bucs Says:

It’s amazing what they can do when it’s not 3rd and 7+ on average for the game.

  3. SufferingSince76 Says:

Everyone stepped up their game today.

  4. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Great job today! Big effort and solid execution! Thrilled!

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We had everyone in coverage…..I recall JTS covering…..

Always a good sign when we get 7 instead pf 3 we only punt twice….although it was for a 61 yard average.

  6. tbbucs3 Says:

Although not perfect, BL called a solid game today. The offense works when Lenny is the #2 back

  7. firethecannons Says:

JTS had a decent game, the linebackers were good Hicks makes a difference on offense, leverett is doing what needs to be done and the rest kept TB12 upright Otton and Miller were good as was ME13 and Godwin and julio good

  8. Miller5252 Says:

The biggest reason they looked so good today was the execution of the plays. Stupid call on that trick play that we ran 5 plays earlier. Seattle doesn’t have the best D, but the Bucs looked good today. The D came to play and helped cover Brady with the bad pick he had. Good way to go into the break. Get everyone healthy and go undefeated the rest of the season.

  9. firethecannons Says:

Hicks makes a difference. On the offense Leverett…

  10. JimmyJack Says:

A big difference on defense has been Hicks in the past 2 games. Need this guy to stay healthy, we are a much tougher defense when hes playing.

Tryon is another guy whose played great lately.

  11. SB~LV Says:

Finally they woke up from the stupor!

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We had success because we were able to run and most of Brady’s throws were beyond the sticks……

Do you realize he targeted RBs twice the entire game and he didn’t target White at all.

That is a huge difference from previous games.

  13. catcard202 Says:

The crowd & atmosphere in Munich created some juice for the players to build off of…It felt like a big game & Bucs responded.

  14. JBBUCS_06 Says:

Leverett at LG has made a diff and perhaps the O has awakened. Strong win! Go Bucs!

  15. Thomas Edrington Says:

One thing I couldn’t believe was sending Brady out as a receiver — nothing good can happen there, he catches the ball, takes and big hit and just like that, the season is done — please remove that BOZO play from your book Byron…

  16. Redeemer Says:

Jimmy, yep Hicks played his butt off today. I liked the pace the offense played with. I noticed a lot of 2nd and long rushing success. Something I’ve been screaming for. Those are the cheap yards you must be able to get. They kept Seattle in the same defense, due to the pace, and executed. Hopefully this can be a springboard going into the bye. Still a lot to fix. I want to see more of white and less of LF. He clearly has more burst and better vision.

  17. tbbucs3 Says:

How drunk where the fans at Big Storm Brewery completely about the pass blocking today? 0 sacks from Brady today.

Leverette has made a huge difference for this OLine. Luke Goekedee is just not good.

  18. Mike Says:

Good team win today! Bucs clawing their way back!

  19. JimmyJack Says:

Im sorry but Leonard throwing a TD pass to a 45 year old Wide Reciever on a go route would have been one of the funnest moments in Bucs history…….probably NFL history.

If it bothers you that Byron tryed to make that moment happen you a complete stiff as a human being and you should not attend any Super Bowl parties ever. You should watch football home alone in your dark cold mancave.

  20. Biff Barker Says:

Lots of credit to go around! Bucs had a solid performance today.

    Good job Buckaroos!

  21. unbelievable Says:

@Redeemer – I’ve been screaming for that as well.

Play action on 1st, runs on 2nd…

  22. The Tsar of Madtown Says:

One thing that stood out to me was how well Carlton Davis set the edge on wide runs to his side. He didn’t make the tackle, but did force the runner back inside to White and David. Textbook.

  23. NEfan Says:

JimmyJack, it’s not the play it’s the thought if he caught it and a safety comes screaming over and takes his head off. QB’s find it hard to throw across field what makes BL think a RB can do it. Pat’s used to run something similar to this only it was a handoff to Edleman and he would throw back to Brady but Edleman was a QB in college. 2nd bad call 2&3 sweep on your own 15 yd line, the lb that made the tackle almost broke it up the first time. D in second halves need to play better, that was too close for comfort for what should have been a blow out.

  24. NEfan Says:

Any play that could cause an injury to Brady outside of the normal game plays should NEVER be called. Oline stepped it up today, very few penalties across the board.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

Brady is too old for those trick plays, and he called the second one. Thank god, it wasn’t a pick6.

  26. NEfan Says:

Oral, he is too old for those plays and that is a judgement call on Lenny’s part not Brady’s. They saw he wasn’t covered the first time and stupidly took the shot. The worst of it all is when they called it, totally killed a scoring drive. I’ll bet Scotty drops that pass across the middle he falls into the abyss the rest of the season.

  27. Deeez NATZ Says:

Much love to Mr Bowels! What ever he did he coached a hella game today! Beers up bucs fans! Here’s to the rest of the season!!! LFG!

  28. Coburn Says:

Yeah leverett has looked so much better by last few weeks. The bonus is he also also young. Just didn’t have the draft status. I do think switching the backs throughout the game keeps them in their toes srkh the different styles.

The arrogance in the first int was thinking you’re the only one that saw Brady wide open on the first play. Or course their defensive coordinator saw it and made sure that didn’t happen again. Brady against woolen? Man just throw it away or run it. I’d have been pissed if Brady got injured. His foot slipped on tth turf. Don’t ask your 45 years old QB to make an athletic play.

  29. D-Rok Says:

I was hooting and hollering for a good 5 minutes after R. White threw Diggs outta the club. THAT was a nasty stiff-arm!

What a great game all-around. The team showed marked improvement this week, and that O-line? They were very good. We might have something with Leverett in there…

  30. JD Says:

Shut the hell up about Brady’s pick. The guy played a great game 76% completion and 111 QB rating. he was riffling the ball accurately all day!

  31. garro Says:

    Yeah
    What JD said!!!
