Respectfully, Devin White Disagrees With Warren Sapp

November 3rd, 2022

Responds to Warren Sapp.

A lot of folks were angered by the sight of what they claim is Bucs Pro Bowl inside linebacker Devin White loafing on a key third down play against the Crows last Thursday.

Bucs legend Warren Sapp was outraged. He took to Instagram with All-22 film evidence and declared White should be stripped of his captaincy.

On Thursday, White finally spoke to the local pen and mic club. He was asked for his take on Sapp’s words. White disagreed. but White made it clear how much he respects Sapp and that Sapp, given his football resumé, has every right to speak his mind.

Sapp, however, is wrong calling him a loafer, White said.

“I don’t [have any] response to that,” White began. “I mean, people that know football know what was going on. I was on the far side of the field on our sideline just because of my coverage and the play happened on [the Ravens] sideline, so I took off running.

“Obviously, I wasn’t running the fastest over there, but my teammates know what was going on and you know, what comes with me on the field and effort. [I] really [have no] response on that, man.

“Salute to [Warren Sapp], he did a great job, he won a Super Bowl here and it’s freedom of speech – he can say what he wants to say, so respect to him.”

The thing is, the eye in the sky doesn’t lie. And the way it looked on film, well, it was not a good look for White, especially given how fast he can run.

You know what will get everyone to quit talking about his alleged loafing (Bucs coach Todd Bowles mentioned a White loaf after last week’s game)? Go out there and win. Play sound defense. Maybe get a scoop-and-score.

The best way to muzzle the grumbling is to give folks a reason to quit grumbling.

Winning, as always, is the greatest perfume.

“people that know football know what was going on.”

I mean honestly do you really have to know anything about football to know he was loafing? People that know football called it out because it’s clear. Are you trying to say the great Sapp doesn’t know football devin white?

  2. Panhandle Buc Says:

Sapp called you out and Sapp KNOWS football! Just own it and move on!! Digging himself a bigger hole!

  3. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I think to improve you have to be humble enough to realize how you’ve been playing. He’s played poorly all season other than the Dallas game. For that matter, other than that game and super bowl run, he’s had a disappointing career so far.

  4. Jmarkbuc Says:

This is not a good look for Kwon.. er.. uh .. Devin.

  5. Eckwood Says:

You think you have Mac ice creamed your teammates and the fans and you are dead wrong ………. Said this day was coming 2 yrs ago while everybody was eating melted D White Nutty Buddy’s and loving it ………… well that ship has sailed ………. You are Dead F ing wrong Devin Child , you are a farse that thinks NOBODY can dispute me I was coddled at LSU and got away with my Scheme minus 2 or 3 actual Super Bowl run Games !! Devin the fans don’t care about your mouth, ear rings, horses , man tight jeans or your LSU coddling …….. Play outstanding Football or Don’t and You Don’t !! We / The Fans and Your Teammates Do Not Understand!!! 🤡

  6. Winky Says:

It’s not just one play, let’s be real.

  7. Smashsquatch Says:

It’s one thing to play within the scheme, and another to use it as an excuse for loafing. Sapp nailed it, and it was obvious. The entire defense is lacking swagger. Sapp oozed swagger back in the day. Devin ought to watch some old film of Sapp, Brooks & Lynch. The whole defense should dust off the archives.

  8. Joe Says:

The entire defense is lacking swagger.

It is starting to seem like that swagger walked out the door along with Ndamukong Suh.

  9. Oddball Says:

    Respectfully, I Disagree With Devin

  10. Delusional Intelligence Says:

Respectfully, Mr. White, please show me ONE person running to your defense as to not loafing, other than your bullspitting coach? Wade Phillips coming to your defense for getting pancaked is another matter altogether. Usually I think Senor Sapp hyperboles too much, but I must agree after your failure to own up to it. “Someone needs to take your ‘C'” You aren’t even starter material in my eyes.

  11. Tony1775 Says:

He was bored on that play.

  12. Jugheadfla Says:

It’s sad to see a 1-5-1 Lovie Smith team play tonight with more heart than anyone on our team during any game this year

  13. Oneilbuc Says:

All I know is that the defense hasn’t been that bad when you really look at it. They held the Panthers 7 points for 3 full quarters they held the Steelers to 20 points I believe. They held the Ravens 10 -3 in the first half and not to mention the Ravens ran 58 plays in the first half because the offense kept going 3 and out . This offense is the main problem with the team not defense. A defense can’t stay on the field most of the game because the offense keep going 3 and out. But I know why y’all so hard on the defense because who the quarterback is so now the defense is a scapegoat now. Call it hate but everything I’m saying is truth .

  14. HC Grover Says:

Sunday Sunday love that day. It will resolve all this hype.

  15. Pelsbuc61 Says:

He’s bored, arrogant and a loafer. So what do the Bucs do? They make him a captain. Nuff said. Great example!!!

  16. HC Grover Says:

He was watching out for a lateral. ROFL.

  17. Kentucky Buc Says:

Sapp is on the couch just like the rest of us. Yeah White sucked so did Brady and a bunch of others. If I was White or some of the others I’d just laugh at the retard media with their dumb sh:! questions coming from that wealth of knowledge they gained in PeeWee league. And , uh Down with Whitey.

  18. Jack dos Santos Says:

@Kentucky Buc and anyone else that has no idea why brady SUPPOSEDLY missed throws at the ground. go listen to eric mangini on first things first and maybe you will learn something. I not saying brady is playing his best but there are more to some of those missed throws that what meets the eye.

  19. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    One word: Entitlement

  20. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    en·ti·tle·ment

the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.

  21. Kentucky Buc Says:

Jack. Brady was off and I’m one of his biggest defenders. He knows he was off. I don’t need to listen to Mangina. I also think Brady bounces back.

  22. LastDance Says:

hey Jack can you post the link/address. I haven’t gotten to see that one yet

  23. LastDance Says:

Hey Kentucky. He is off. But…

2nd worse interior line pass block win rate
Worst running game in HISTORY (since merger)

Brady has ALWAYS struggled when you get inside pressure with no rush
2007 isn’t a perfect season because of inside pressure

Its not that he’s always hit, if he doesn’t trust the OL he plays twitchier, in a rush. ALWAYS has.

Yes he can play better. But im gonna tell you all now: If Leftwich doesn’t get his shirt together and scheme more creative ways to protect and get guys open, Brady will not be “better”. I genuinely believe he is still the best, but he plays a certain style and THIS COACHING STAFF and PLAYERS are not a fit for his style. Believe me don’t believe me doesnt matter. You don’t know anyone who has watched more Brady than me.

  24. captivajim Says:

White is the ” chosen one ” .,,,

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

Singling out White is wrong. Single out brady, the D line, The O line. There is a lot of blame to go around with this lackadaisical team.

  26. Leopold Stotch Says:

Idk man I think any athlete, former or current, can tell who’s trying and who’s not. As a former athlete, I can say he wasn’t trying.

  27. adam from ny Says:

he’s known as a sideline to sideline dude…

    #BeThatGuy

  28. adam from ny Says:

suh aka “the rock of gibraltar” walked out the door and took his defense with him

  29. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘It is starting to seem like that swagger walked out the door along with Ndamukong Suh.’

Hmmm. Wow Joe, finally coming around to what many of us have been saying since the Spring? Or were you just loafing during those times? Next maybe you’ll see the Licht? Poor roster construction & management is at the real heart of our problems.

  30. Hodad Says:

It’s not his fault, he just isn’t very bright.

  31. Statguy Says:

We spent a top 5 pick to replace a 4th rounder in Kwon. Can’t say Devon is an upgrade at this point. At least Kwon played with heart, and those were teams that had no chance of sniffing the playoffs

  32. SufferingSince76 Says:

Just another member of the Bucs organization in denial.

  33. Listnfrmafar Says:

Mike Johnson@ White plays out of control and Sapp has seen it before and can recognize loafing when he sees it. White and others were loafing. By the way OJ was not innocent.

  34. Your Mom Says:

He should just say he read it wrong and won’t do it again, that even at this point he is still learning. Then everybody respects him. But now everybody is calling him a loafer and a prima donna. What a dummy.

  35. Suresh Gudimetla Says:

Respectfully Devin, I would go back and watch the play again. JTS atleast was hustling who was further away from where you were and yep you were “LOAFING”. Respectfully!

  36. Suresh Gudimetla Says:

“I mean, people that know football know what was going on.” Did he mean that a hall of famer did not know how football is played – SMH

  37. Leopold Stotch Says:

This wouldn’t be as big of a deal if he:
    1) Was not a captain
    2) Didn’t mention he got bored
    3) Would produce results as much as he talks about it
    4) Wasn’t the 5th overall pick before
    5) Didnt act all goofy when he receives an accolade
Another thing is this is amplified by the fact that the team has lost many games it shouldn’t have, in the weakest division in an overall weak conference… With Tom Freaking Brady as QB. To be clear, Devin’s performance is not the reason why we’re losing, but it does need to be addressed and fixed immediately.

  38. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

Imagine if the HC/DC had the stones to remove the “C” from White’s jersey, as Sapp is correct in suggesting. That act alone, especially if done in front of the team, would send ripples through the locker room. That might well be the only thing needed to increase the entire team’s effort.

Devon, you were not on the “far side of the field”. You started in the middle of the field, that’s what the “M” in MLB represents. You were passed, afoot, by heavier & even more exhausted D-linemen! Instead of attempting to blabber your way out of it, you should feel humiliation!? You’d have to have at least some humility to experience that, however.

Congratulations, that single play (& there were others) has made you the James Harden of defensive effort in the NFL! And, If your teammates are fine with that effort then, they should be replaced too!! Pathetic!

  39. Frank Pillow Says:

Uhh, I can’t remember Sapp habitually loafing, out of position, and whiffing on sacks and tackles. What I do remember is Sapp as the guy would would call-out and address anyone dared do so on his watch. Sapp was a generational/transformational player. White is not.

  40. Bucamania Says:

White was called a big time leader coming out of the draft. The next Ray Lewis. He sure ain’t Ray Lewis unfortunately. Leaders don’t do that.

  41. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Yeah cuz Sapp doesn’t know football! 🙄 …. And this comes a few weeks after his teammate Jamel Dean ran down a kick return with pure hustle that if he’d have done what white did would have been a score! … Loser!!

  42. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

White has got to be the dumbest player in the NFL!! I mean duuuuuumb!!!

  43. Adam’s Angry Says:

Sapp & White are tied in “rings.”

  44. garro Says:

    Yeah …but its a team sport…WTF???
