“He Ain’t Cooking”

November 3rd, 2022

Warren Sapp chimes in.

So what’s going on with Tom Brady?

People seem to think the Bucs quarterback is messed up. Then you look at the numbers and remember his age, and your head shakes. Second in the league in passing? Just one pick? At 45? This is supposed to be “wrong?”

If that’s wrong, then Joe doesn’t want to be right.

But the optics are bad. Fans see Brady’s frustration on the field. He’s just as accurate this year as he was in the glorious 2020 Super Bowl season. So statistically, Brady is having a fine year. Aesthetically he is not.

So what’s going on? A guy who knows something about making quarterbacks uncomfortable is Bucs legend Warren Sapp. And he sees an uncomfortable Brady.

While appearing on “In the Trenches” podcast with host Ian Beckles, Sapp summed it up simply why Brady doesn’t look smooth.

“He’s uncomfortable with what’s in front of him,” Sapp said of Brady. That’s the one thing about any quarterback. If he is unstable about the kitchen in front of him, he ain’t cooking.”

There may be something to that. Until the Baltimore game, two interior linemen were playing in the seventh starts of their NFL careers. Neither is close to the Pro Bowl level where Ryan Jensen and Ali Marpet were.

So Joe can see that there is an adjustment for Brady. And perhaps Robert Hainsey and Luke Goedeke haven’t earned Brady’s full trust? That takes time.

Unfortunately, the Bucs don’t have a lot of time left to rescue possibly Brady’s final season.

If the Bucs return from Munich in two weeks 3-7, Joe isn’t sure how the Bucs can realistically be expected to make the playoffs.

Your right Joe 3-7 after Munich they are probably about well done.

  2. 99 55 47 20 Says:

Really liked this comment from Sapp when I heard it. And really miss #99 turning kitchens upside down

  3. Beej Says:

Am I wrong in assuming Goedeke is now on the bench? New guy heap much better

  4. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

I don’t think it’s on Brady, but he has had numerous interceptions dropped over the last 3 weeks. He could easily have5 ints right now.

  5. Tvan101 Says:

Maybe all that talk about Gissele being a white witch and giving Tom Brady powers until he is 45 are true….

  6. Bobby M. Says:

How could Brady remotely trust Goedeke?….He’s getting manhandled by everyone. Brady is under pressure even while getting the ball out faster than he has ever done so before. The blocking blows in the worst possible place….interior right into Brady’s line of vision.

Bowles and Left fired. Hire Brian Daboll
13th Pick in the Draft – Bryan Bresee
2023 used to clean up dead money. Finish 4th in NFCS.

  8. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Is Beckles still selling marijuana? (Pat Donovan got mad at me for asking that question).

  9. Lamarcus Says:

You failing to mention his throws are hitting the ground and underthrows deep balls. We have will have to dink and donk are way to the playoffs and possibly be outscored by then

  10. BucsfanFred Says:

I can see them beating the Rams.
    Seattle …….?¿??????

  11. Redeemer Says:

The next gen stats don’t lie. Brady is throwing into very tight windows. He’s always thrived with guys that can get open quickly. Go look at the all 22 against the Ravens. I counted 13 drop backs where absolutely nobody was open. The man is 45 years old. He’s doing all he can. Yes he’s missed some throws. What QB doesn’t. He has no run game to speak of, and nothing is coming easy. Good coordinators design plays to spring guys open. The bucs do none of that.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The glaring stats are red zone & 3rd down failures……..much of that is on Brady.& Byron….

    By the way…..”Let’s go Byron”

  13. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Redeemer. Brady has to be perfect every game for this team to have any success and that”s the problem. There is no run game to lean on. He’s constantly being asked to bail the team out on third down because were are constantly behind the chains The simplistic view is to point out they were are bad on third down?.Ask yourself why? As the great Peyton Manning has said, you win on first and second down. I could argue that Brady has one of the most highest degree difficulty at QB.

Brady doesn’t trust his OL at all. Brady just expects them to get beat and not recover. In 2020 and 2021, our line got beat sometimes. The difference is Brady trusted them to recover. Brady might have to just take a leap of faith. He’s been smart in his career of taking selective hits. He’ll stand in there tough when he needs to be.

  14. LastDance Says:

Im gonna keep posting this on all the threads… until the Brain Fart twins leave town. Or the Brain Shart twins I should say.

Fill in the blank: Tom Brady’s biggest problem this season is _______.

Jenna Laine, Buccaneers reporter: Interior protection. The Bucs’ interior pass-blockers have produced a pass block win rate of 87.9% through eight games, second worst in the NFL. The interior line is also responsible for 34 Brady incompletions, the most in the NFL for any quarterback.

  15. JA Says:

Haven’t been here awhile as every post is nearly identical: “Fire Leftwich, Todd and Jason. If the Glazers hired me, the sonorous loudmouth with no NFL experience, the Bucs problems would be solved immediately. Also, everybody in the world sucks but me.”

How about 5—5? The Rams are having the same issues as the Bucs. Stafford has looked horrible this year. And we owe them one!
Philly is in the World Series, tied 2—2 after a mere 87-75 season. They squeaked into the playoffs and have played great ever since.
No longer a big fan of MLB, but I pay enough attention to know any professional team can come together at the end of the season and make a run.
It ain’t how ya start …

  16. BuckyDent Says:

Sly your ball is very fuzzy. Beat cincy and hire Daboll? Whatever you are smoking send it around, cause you are so wacked. Bucs need to figure out the red zone and they may rally off 7 straight wins.

Tom may be second in yards but is down with Wentz, Dalton and Ryan on TDs. All of which have not played every game like him.

Joe- make sure we bookmark this one so sly can get a new crystal ball

  17. Tbbucs3 Says:

Brady’s having a good season only according to stat needs and Brady fan boys….

You can’t possibly argue that this looks like the same Brady from the past 2 years…. hopefully he’ll turn it around but to this point Brady has looked washed.

By the way, those “passing leader” stats are very misleading…..2d in the league in passing is because are always behind in games so Brady racks up garbage time numbers and who gives a bleep about 1 INT if Brady isnt throwing touchdowns?

  18. Duane Says:

Has anyone seen Kurt Warner’s breakdown on YT? I think he is spot on. Brady needs to fix his own play before he worries about others. You can see Evans and Godwin (with separation), Julio wide open, and plenty of opportunities Brady missed because of late timing or indecisive decision making. He even takes a sack when he had people open. Probably a good idea for him to start learning to cook for one.

  19. Redeemer Says:

@Tbbucs3, no this isn’t the Brady of last year. Guys were actually open last season. The days of Brady carrying a team are, and have been over for some time. It’s why he came to Tampa in the first place. I’m not trying to be a know it all, but I’ve studied the film. @Bucsfan13 is correct. Things need to be perfect for this group to succeed. There’s two ways to get separation. You either scheme it up, or win individual matchups. Right now the bucs can’t do either. They also can’t run the ball, which would take pressure off the passing game. Do you honestly think it would look like this if they had a healthy Gronk, and a sane AB? Other than Josh Allen, or Pat Mahomes, there is no other QB I’d rather have.

  20. Craig Says:

Statistically the O-line isn’t do that badly either. It might be that every other team, except the Giants, Eagles, and Jets, are even worse.

Maybe the addition of Leverette with give him some faith in them.

It would also help if Lenny became a 3rd down back, with White and Vaughn splitting the rest of the time. They would give Brady a better outlet pass target.

Bowles and Leftie need to play the players available and get something from somebody.

  21. Boodidley Says:

It’s willfully ignorant of you to make some of these statements. Bottom 5 in receiever separation and bottom two on interior pass protection wins. It’s like you have never watched him play. If you pressure up the middle without blitzing it messes up everything. Understand before speaking please

  22. Tony Says:

He probably feels that way because he’s iffy on the OL right now.

  23. Bob in valrico Says:

While I don’t have high hopes for the season, I really hope the team can
start to pull together so Brady can at least end his career on a high note.
Improve the protection schemes to make him more comfortable and buy more time in the pocket.

  24. Jason Says:

Has there been a single play this year when Tom has “Stood tall in the pocket” and delivered a strike knowing he was going to get hit? Just curious, because I can’t think of any offhand.

  25. Boodidley Says:

Nope… he has 0% trust in the OL… with good reason supported by stats. I see it but not everyone has watched every snap of his for over 20 years. This is why they lost 2 Super Bowls to the giants but over the course of a season a decent coordinator could scheme for this. We do not have a decent OC

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady cannot check down to the run because Bucs have no running game. He has on end zone threat Evan’s that can easily be double covered. NOW WHAT??? Guys BL’s play calling is horrible. He is one man, don’t confuse throwing the ball away versus low throws. If he didn’t protext the ball all these games would be blow outs. YOU CANNOT win without a running game!!!

  27. Boodidley Says:

    Preach Listn

Who the hell ever won in the playoffs with the worst running game in the league? No one. Brady has gone to the super bowl with the 31st ranked defense but never with a shirty running game like tgis

  28. George Says:

Licht failed to deliver an experienced offensive line after the injuries .

Going to be a field day for Aaron Donald. I fear for Brady’s health on Sunday.

  29. Joe Says:

TB12 retires after his worst season (finally a true Buc)
Bowles and Left fired. Hire Brian Daboll

Joe isn’t trying to run off Todd Bowles. But if the Bucs’ season flames out and the Bucs finish with a top-10 draft pick, if the Bucs are going to draft a quarterback, keep an eye out for Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka (former Bucs backup QB).

Not only does Kafka have a brain (he graduated from Northwestern). Took Auburn to OT in the Outback Bowl FYI.

But Kafka spent four years as Andy Reid’s QB coach and helped develop Pat Mahomes. Kafka goes to the Giants this fall as OC and he has turned around Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley working for Brian Daboll. So it sure seems that Kafka has an idea what he’s doing. Good coaching bloodlines.

Joe would love to see Kafka come to the Bucs to develop a rookie first-round pick of a QB.

  30. brooks Says:

Slypirate you spot on!! Maybe 6 wins

  31. Stevebucsgood Says:

This game sunday is the unfinished business Tom was talking about. At home against the Lambs. We can and will win. This game is our season.

  32. bob Says:

TB will be a 49er next yr or a Raider because of this staff of stupid

  33. captivajim Says:

Sapp is right . Brady does not have confidence in Licht’s O-Line.. he’s forcing early throws, not going thru all his reads , can’t always for receivers to run longer routes . I just don’t see it changing.. Every other opponent studies the tapes & readily knows how to beat the Bucs

  34. Rob Singer Says:

People who blindly criticize are so dumb.

Brady “throwing into the ground” and under throwing targets”? The opposition has “dropped possible interceptions”? WTF? Do you idiots watch any other games featuring the “elite QB’s”? They ALL have bad throws and several dropped interceptions in games every week! It’s all about HOW MANY ACTUAL INTERCEPTIONS THEY HAVE. Why do you think AARON RODGERS won the MVP the past two years? You think he went far in the playoffs?

Florida people just don’t understand football like they do in NE.

    Please wise up.

  35. garro Says:

“He’s uncomfortable with what’s in front of him,”

Been preaching this same thing the whole season!
And when you factor this into things. Brady has done well. Although the stats are very desceptive, because of the Bucs contstantly playing from behind and a poor running game.

  36. garro Says:

    RobSinger
People in Florida don”t really care what you think!
Thats knda why we don,t live in “New England” LOL
