Harsh CBS Grade For A Win

November 8th, 2022

Stench remains.

The Bucs won. No failing grade from Joe.

And after traveling for 24 hours to reach Munich just as Bucs fans back in Tampa were reaching for their second cup of morning coffee, early afternoon Munich time (Travel tip I: If possible, do not flip planes in that jungle known as “Heathrow.” Travel tip II: There is no such thing as TSA Pre overseas so budget accordingly, like give yourself three hours. Travel tip III: If you have to be stuck on a plane for over eight hours, business class is absolutely the way to go.), Joe hasn’t yet had a chance to toast the Bucs’ win over the Rams with a real German beer, but Joe will. Prost!

But there will be no toasting the Bucs from the desk of Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports.

He grades each NFL team weekly. And the only thing the Bucs did to Benjamin was reinforce they’re a bad team.

Despite winning, Benjamin gave the Bucs a “D+” grade.

The only reason they don’t get an “F” is because Tom Brady and their defensive front showed up down the home stretch. Almost everyone else did their best to drag TB12 down with them. Yes, they deserve credit for fighting until the finish line and stealing a game the Rams desperately wanted to lose, but if not for Brady standing tall amid waves of dropped passes and Rookie Mode “Madden” play calls from Byron Leftwich, or Vita Vea crunching Matthew Stafford every couple of drives, we might all be talking this week about whether Todd Bowles is even confident he’ll make it through his first year running the ship. Even with injuries, they have the personnel to make a bit of noise; they just seem totally clueless as to how to actually do that.

You know, Joe really cannot argue with anything Benjamin has said. The Bucs looked godawful for about 55 minutes of that game last Sunday.

Don’t get Joe wrong: Joe loves wins. See above. But as Joe always says, winning is the greatest perfume. That win covered up a lot of stench from that turd the Bucs dropped Sunday night. Brady arrived with a shovel in the nick of time.

Joe is now hearing national voices on podcasts who used to work in football all but holler that failing offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich should be canned.

Maybe Team Glazer can find Leftwich a cushy gig with Audio while they are over here in Munich … just drop him off when the team arrives very late Thursday night.

    Earned and deserved.

  2. BucU Says:

EVERYBODY knows this offense is hideous. Leftwich will continue to do the exact same things he’s done all year and we’ll continue to be a below average team. He should be relieved of his duties immediately. It seems mngmnt cares more about hurting feelings than trying to salvage the season here. Byron’s a nice guy but he’s not capable of changing the template of BA’s offense to fit the team we have NOW. He’s proven his ineptitude time and time again.

  3. Kentucky Buc Says:

Totally baffling. Same garbage over and over. I still think this is Bowles agenda to play these slow, No yards and a cloud of dust games. If this is all BL then Bowles is a complete idiot to allow it to continue.

  4. Parrishbucsfan Says:

Bring Bruce up as offensive coordinator and put Byron as co offensive assistant

  5. SPARKY Says:

Brady was on survival mode these first 10 games. He always says the real season starts after Thanksgiving. Edelman said once that in December Brady will start holding the ball a little longer, giving the receivers more time to get open and finding the open guy more. If we beat Seattle, I’m betting a 6-1 or 5-2 finish and hot into the playoffs.

  6. Chuckstutz Says:

Leftwich would make a great soccer coach. Nil nil. Move his ass to Europe.

Where is BA? Offensive consultant who is offensive. What are they paying that guy for??

  7. D-Rok Says:

Seems like a fitting moniker: Byron “Rookie Mode Madden” Leftwich. I like it.

  8. Redeemer Says:

Joe, may I recommend a Hefeweizen. My favorite is Franziskaner.

  9. Brad Says:

chuck… Bowles stubborn ass said it is his team not Bruce’s… this is what we get.. same as the Jets got.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let’s go Byron……or in German “Ficken Byron”

  11. 2022 return of the goat Says:

Bowels doesn’t have the balls to fire Leftwich

  12. sasquatch Says:

The D+ grade is appropriate. This was another loss, this time disguised as a win. Getting the W could, possibly, boost the morale on offense and perhaps give them more confidence going into the last 8 games. But if it doesn’t, it’s a meaningless win.

They ought to let Brady call all his own plays. Maybe go into hurry-up on the first drive of every quarter. Do SOMETHING different.

  13. Dave in Winter Park, Fla Says:

Joe, I hope you enjoy you time in Munch, Germany 🇩🇪 ❗️Have a beer 🍺 on me. Now with yours truly writing on JBF last week on a Rams win over the Bucs, everything that I said about the game came true, except the last 40 seconds of the game. Rams HC McVay made Bowles look like a deer in the headlights and the Rams had total control of the game. The Rams lost because McVay decided to play a soft prevent defense and that’s how Brady got the Bucs only TD in the game. By the way, The Rams closed at (+3, Westgate Super Book) so the Rams got the Push. It will become BLACK SUNDAY when The Seahawks (+2’, Westgate Super Book) DESTROYS THE BUCS ❗️Dave Corcoran, 2018 Westgate Super Contest, Winter Park. Florida.

  14. Dew Says:

How about we give Deven Thompkins a chance. Our receivers aren’t quick like he would be. Maybe valuable yak yards. JJ is so wounded he is almost worthless & BP had a bad drop on an easy pass. Try some new blood.

  15. Panhandle Buc Says:

That D grade is absolutely warranted! Our offense was pathetic for 59 mins! Byron has shown ZERO creativity and willingness to adjust. He will keep running slow Lenny up the middle, get us behind the chains and utilize our offensive MVP Jake to play field position game.

Joe, you are spoiled if you can’t handle a quick 8 hr. flight in coach.

  16. D-Rok Says:

Thanks, Redeemer. Hefeweizen it shall be for this week’s offensive explosion. And by explosion I mean 21 points. That’s 7 FG’s for all people who enjoy statistics and maths.

  17. D Says:

    Burn the Wich!

  18. DBS Says:

All you had to do was look at the last play. Where was everyone at home and the world including the Rams knowing Leftnut was going with that ball? Brady said not hell we are not! Of course you know he called that for the TD. This offense is so predictable it is that sad. But the Glazers nor Bowles will make any change. Best that can happen is just let Brady call the plays on the field. Hurry up if need be.

  19. Redeemer Says:

D-Rok, BlahahHa. We’re going to have to start drinking around 8am to get a decent buzz on.

  20. Goatfarmer Says:

Cody Benjamin hat recht. Leftwurst saugt.

  21. OrlandoBucFan Says:

Joe, have some Augustiner-Brau. They have a great beer hall and beer garden. In my opinion, they have the best beer too.

  22. WTFBucFan Says:

Byron Leftwich is an Ass Clown with a deep seated fetish to run up the middle on first down. Give him a pair of VR goggles and let him think he’s coaching….

  23. Kidfloflo Says:

Joe’s I’ll ask again, how is it possible the Left foot didn’t retain any if B.A’s offensive prowess being with him since Arizona, and supposedly calling the plays last year!? Did he go roque?

  24. Joe Says:

    Hefeweizen

Thank you. Heard of that. Currently enjoying a Giesinger lager.

  25. Joe Says:

    Kidfloflo:

Three years ago Joe brought up Leftwich was awful in Arizona and he butchered Josh Rosen so badly Arizona moved on from both Leftwich and Rosen after one year.

Every time Joe mentioned that he got *killed* by his readers. Now fast forward to today and… 🤷‍♂️ 🤔

  26. Kidfloflo Says:

Joe, but the offense under Left foot last year was waaaay better! Unless B.A’s red marker killing the game plan on game day, which supposedly got Brady frustrated is needed badly!? If so Bruce or Bowles or even Glazers should demand he over see it until things get better

  27. PSL Bob Says:

“oe is now hearing national voices on podcasts who used to work in football all but holler that failing offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich should be canned.”

Exactly what I posted after the game. Love the W, but it doesn’t negate the putrid 59:16 of football that preceded the final drive. FIRE LEFTWICH!

  28. gotbbucs Says:

They have to quit trotting Julio Jones and Breshad Perriman out there for starters. Activate Tyler Johnson and Deven Thompkins and see if young fresh legs can do anything. What have they got to lose?
This running game is not going to take off with Fournette in the game. His legs are dead on contact and his vision sucks. We have two young running backs that want to work. Let them do it. Fournette can spell them when they need a break, and if he doesn’t like that he can be deactivated and stay home and collect a check.
Someone needs to light a fire under Donovan Smith’s rear end and get him refocused. He’s our worst offensive lineman right now.

  29. Randall Says:

BUCS BARELY WON IN THE LAST 9 SECONDS.

Like usual, they sucked most of the game, except for bright spots like Otton and kicking/punting.

Most important thing they can do is replace Leftwich and Bowles, but they don’t seem to have the balls to do that. Probably because of wokeness.

  30. Redeemer Says:

Kid, the offense was way better last year because they were a wagon. I doubt it would look appreciably better under BAs oversight. He’s probably already made some suggestions to BL. The coaching has been poor, but IMO it’s a talent issue up front. The line problems create a domino effect. Jensen would immediately make the LG position better. His communication skills alone would mitigate some problems. If and when Jensen returns, the run game should be better

Joe, may I recommend a Hefeweizen. My favorite is Franziskaner.

Completely agree – that is my favorite too – also known as Frankenstein.

  32. German Buc Says:

Pleeeeeease – stop unsing Google Translator to write anyting in German.
It really hurts!!! And it hurts bad!

  33. Letsbucinggo Says:

Glad we won thanks to Tom and a pretty good “D” but there is something insidious going on with this team.

  34. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

Wurzburger Bavarian Dark if you can find it. The best. To cold for hefeweisen that’s summer beer. Anything local will be good of course or a Czech Pilsner!

  35. Your Mom Says:

Joe I think you are justified in criticizing them in spite of the win, because we want more than just 4 wins this season.

That performance was good enough to beat the sickly Rams in a home game, but wouldn’t have beaten many other teams. The lowly Steelers and Panthers proved that.

  36. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

Fraziskaner is good as hell though. You guys are making me thirsty.

  37. Irishmist Says:

Agree with Chuckstutz that BL should be coaching soccer. When all the games are 2-1 or 3-2, his team might just have a chance.

  38. ClwJB Says:

Maybe you can help “misplace” the OC’s passport so he can’t come back!!!!!!!!

  39. Beej Says:

I notice BA has stayed as far away from the microphone as he can get of late

  40. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Travel tip #9; if can’t drive there, I aint going.

  41. Ed Says:

Inexcusable team chemistry issues that manifest into horribly predictable offensive sets that a defensive coordinator can blow up like a Ukrainian drone sinking a Russian naval vessel.

Byron looks and prepares an offense like my high school coach did in the days of hightop shoes with giant cleats. He really runs a high school offense which would embarrass many high school coaches.

Bucs need to start hiring coaches from outside the organization that have competence.

When your per game scoring average drops by 40% YTD and you have more 3 and outs than first downs, you suck!

This team has lost some talent JT the biggest loss is accountability and professionalism.

The offense has been sloppy all year. The defense that showed up vs the Rams was the first time in a month showed aggression and being responsible in assignments.

Not once did Devin White make a horrible mistake.

  42. D-Rok Says:

Joes are moderately moderating me in modicum, yet again.

I had such a snappy come-back all typed up that made Alfred E. Neumann smile wider than normal.

  43. C.j. Massie Says:

    Warsteiner.

  44. Reddington Neck Shores Says:

i dunno. brady woke up at the end and when he’s using otton and #3/4 miller they have scrub db or linebackers on em. it worked. keep at it. maybe he just needed a big drive as part of the emotional rebound. now make me13’s gloves a little stickier and we will be ok once jensen is back

  45. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Yes we won. We won ugly, but we still won. Who was it who said “Just win Baby ? Because that is all that matters.
It was a win, and we will take it, and hopefully build on it and beat Seattle.
The return of Hicks can not be underestimated. His mere appearance drew double teams that freed up many of our guys!
Suh was never double teamed like Hicks is, because he was never a danger like Hicks can be,
The big game Vita Vea had was because of Hicks, so lets hope it carries over to Seattle.

  46. Joe Says:

    Joe, have some Augustiner-Brau.

    Plan to go there!
