Jonathan Vilma (Correctly) Calls Out Byron Leftwich

November 27th, 2022

Bucs OC Byron Leftwich.

Former slimy Saints and Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma called a spade a spade today on the FOX broadcast of the Bucs-Browns debacle and he hit the nail on the head.

Myles Garrett, at worst the second-best pass rusher in the NFL, was starting to warm up near the end of the game and into regulation.

On an overtime drive where the Bucs were showing signs of life on offense, but after Tristan Wirfs went down, Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith was left on an island by himself to block Garrett.

No one came up to chip-block Garrett or even double-team him. And guess what happened? Garrett sacks Brady.

Vilma went off.

“You are going to disrespect Myles Garrett by not chipping him or sliding protection over to him?” Vilma howled. “He’s going to eat your lunch.

“And that’s what he just did. You cannot just leave Donovan Smith one-on-one in overtime against one of the best defensive ends.”

Vilma is absolutely right. But he’s missing the big picture. Fans at home could see this. Credentialed media saw it. So did guys in the broadcast booth. Opposing defensive coaches see it, too. But Vilma is expecting inept Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich to see this when it is crystal clear Leftwich doesn’t even know how to use the massive talent he has.

Why would anyone expect Leftwich to have enough common sense to help Smith against one of the best pass rushers in the NFL?

Leftwich is head coaching material? Joe’s @ss!!!

Please, some team, any team, hire him!!! Hire him away from the Bucs as soon as possible, for the sanity of all football fans in the Tampa Bay area.

Doesn’t USF have an opening?

    Everyone hates you bro! ^

  2. tampabayallday Says:

Glazers are horrible owners they will never make the right call. They got lucky AF by signing Brady.

  3. TheBucsAnthemu Says:

    I actually agree with Vilma

  4. LastDance Says:

He needs to be who he be at the Publix. He’s qualified for that… I wouldn’t pawn him off on a high school team

  5. Rod Munch Says:

Meanwhile, in the comments section, all the morons, who are just as stupid as Leftwich, were whinning about Donnie.

I pointed out that Garrett is literally the best pass rusher in the game and you HAVE to give him help. But Leftwich is much too stupid to do something as smart as that.

  6. Lamarcus Says:

Naw. The blame is on Brady just as much. Hell. It’s Bradys offense, Brady changes the plays, he gets the players, he gets the credit. All of sudden, the offense is bad but it’s Leftwich fault

  7. LVMYBUCS Says:

Joe how evident can it be the Bucs went from a elite team the last two seasons to a crappy team in one season what happened COACHING CHANGE IS WHAT HAPPENED.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Cut it out and knock it off. Coaches did not lose this game. The players did. Anybody ever consider the Browns simply outplayed and out hustled us? Well they didi. They played on the field like they wanted to win. We did not. There is always next yr and the yr after that..and after that……and…

  9. TheBucsAnthemu Says:

    Bad coaching again (broken record)

  10. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

I wouldn’t trust Boron to coach my kid in peewee football. He’s the worst OC I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen some bad ones being a Bucs fan!

  11. Rod Munch Says:

tampabayallday – You’re an idiot, clearly a bandwagon boi who doesn’t remember what bad ownership actually looks like.

  12. AmauryGuzman Says:

The bucs downgraded in the coaching department this season and let’s get real arians was a big part of the offense in 2020.

  13. EricTheViking Says:

And yet they keep their jobs. I wonder why that is????

  14. Rod Munch Says:

There are people here trying to defend these garbage coaches? LOL!

    Good luck with that, morons.

  15. I want out Says:

Smith was getting beat all game. Vilma is spot on here.

  16. Mike Says:

    Stop blaming Byron!!

Do you really think he just got stupid after 3 years almost leading nfl in scoring

Don’t you think it’s possible the head coach outlines the type of offense he wants run… the overall strategy gameplan!!!

The offense sucks because the head coach sets the strategy

Just like special teams sucked at key points because the head coach influenced the strategy

Your right- you can’t over estimate how Bad coaching can kill a team!!! You are just hunting 1 ring too low on the food chain

  17. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

This AZZ CLOWN turned down a coaching job ?? Lmao

  18. Don’t listen to what he Says:

    Buck Fyron

  19. Bojim Says:

    How much longer?

  20. AmauryGuzman Says:

Mike get out of here with that crap! Leftwich sucks !!!! He looks clueless without Bruce. I still feel BA was a major part of our offense in 2020.

  21. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

This clown actually turned down a HC job ?? Think about that Lefty actually had an organization that wanted him. Lmao

  22. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    retard

  23. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Just how many games (or seasons) will us fans have to deal with reading these types of articles. Glazers should have realized early they were wasting Brady’s final year. This entire coaching staff needs to be fired at he end of this sorry season.

  24. Dreday Says:

Stop spending money on tickets and going to the game. I’m sure that’ll get the glazers attention. Tickets are too expensive to see cement feet Tom Brady and Radio Leftwich calling these predictable plays. Bowles doesn’t have time like Bruce Arians did so he better make changes fast or he’ll be gone. Sean Payton would love this team lol

  25. Erik Hesson | Fine Artist | Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Unfortunately, the wise thing for Brady to do at this point is: retire and save his health (maybe he should’ve listened to Giselle, hmm)

  26. Don’t listen to what he Says:

Byron and Nathaniel Hackett are the future LOLOLOLOL

  27. Tom S. Says:

Rod Munch, you’re joking right? Bucs had the longest missed playoff streak in the league before Brady SPECIFICALLY because of the recurring bad decisions by ownership.

Maybe you’re the one who blacked out all the years prior to Brady’s arrival?

We were a 7-9 team with Jameis the year before but yeah the Glazer Babies were the pinnacle of competent ownership as the Bucs sat in the basement of the division year after year…

  28. Doc Says:

I guess you have to blame someone, how about Brady, who waived off the timeout with three remaining toward the end of the fourth quarter. They had a play call to help block Garrett, but Brady changed the play at the line in overtime, setting up three wide receivers on one side.

  29. Da Bucs Guy Says:

    Incompetent coaches.

  30. Tye Says:

‘Leftwich is head coaching material? Joe’s @ss!!!’

Leftwich ISN’T OC material… he is the worst OC without help from his ‘Daddy’ Arians!

  31. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

Wow Whirfs broken Ankle 😳 That’s a major loss and not replaceable, but Todd caused that because this energy less team sat on a 7 point lead for most of the second half

  32. Erik Hesson | Fine Artist | Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Brong in Sean Payton Mid-season! F it, we’ll make it work!

  33. Erik Hesson | Fine Artist | Founder of UniqueModernArt.com Says:

    *bring

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Mike – If you think Leftwich had anything to do with the offense being good under Arians, you’re an idiot. Leftwich was told what to do, and when he got ultra predictable in games, Arians was there to make him change things up.

Bowles was given this garbage situation of having a terrible OC, he had no say in the matter, and this is 100% Leftwich’s offense. If you actually had a clue what you’ve been watching over the years, and paid attention, you would have noted, like I have, all the times that Arians kept calling out Leftwich in public saying he can’t get so predictable and so conservative, that Leftwich wants to run it every down. This IS Leftwich calling this trash.

Problem is he has a defensive head coach who is completely hands off, and clearly that hasn’t changed. Not that Bowles would have a clue how to fix it either.

  35. ElioT Says:

    This team is

    HOPELESS!

  36. Anonymous Says:

Isn’t there another Jeff Saturday somewhere to take over this team?

  37. Sean Says:

Not sure why a failure of HC was hired in the first place with Todd Bowels; he’s been consistent from the Jets to now. He’s the exact same coach. No lessons learned, no improvement. As for Leftwich, he’s like Bienemy in KC where Andy Reid is entirely responsible for the offense. BA was always responsible for the offenses in Arizona and in Tampa Bay. He’s been badly exposed as an empty headset.

  38. Sumosam Says:

Good teams don’t lose to bad teams. It’s the third time this year that happened. I’m glad I did not buy playoff tickets. This coaching is bad!

  39. Rod Munch Says:

Tom S. – Hey kiddo, maybe go back to before the Glazers got here and let me know what the Bucs did…

Meanwhile the Bucs have won 10% of the Super Bowls in the last 20 years, and only the Pats have more SBs this century than the Bucs.

But keep telling me why the Glazers are awful.

    Moron.

  40. adam from ny Says:

i was just waiting in the 2nd half for them to seal the deal…

    put the game away…

    waiting and waiting…

    patiently swigging yuenglings…

    and waiting…

before the season i predicted they lose in cleveland…sadly i was correct…i forgot i predicted that until just now…

but simple…they should have put the browns away…it’s on the coaches

  41. Waterboy Says:

With Wells on the other side you have to pick your poison.

  42. Dreday Says:

I’m sure the glazers are seeing if Payton is available. Why not? It’s a business and you have to make sure your business is staying afloat. Offense sells tickets and even without brady, this team can win with the right coaching on offense

  43. Mike Johnson Says:

Its not the owners or the coaches. Its the TEAM..that sucks.

  44. Chuck Stevens Says:

This debacle is not on the glazers!!!
They have given Jason licht and Todd Bowles a ton of weapons to use.Yet the vaunted offense couldn’t even get close enough to get a field goal in two quarters of football.
It’s not the players it’s the play callers and lack of imagination and unwilling to use other weapons.
Why not put Scotty Miller out there to stretch the field??
Create some room for Evans and Brate to operate.
The Tristan wirfs injury sits squarely on Bowles and Lefty.
Tom Brady ,run while you have some respectability left
These two coaches are going down and it’s not gonna be pretty.
To Todd Bowles ,some coaches aren’t meant to be Head coaches and sticking with lefty is gonna shorten your tenure ,as it should !
I can’t watch this crap anymore.
I don’t expect them to win every game but as a paying customer it would be nice if they were competitive.Three of the six losses were largely avoidable poor play calling is the culprit.

  45. T REX Says:

I see the white hood crew is out

SMDH…part of fan base is disgusting

  46. Deeez NATZ Says:

Brady screwed this game. All we needed was one more touchdown and he couldn’t get it….We should all stop with the P word unless it’s calling the offense PUSHYS !

  47. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs should pull a Colts and fire Leftwich and Bowles, hire a former player for the team to come in.

I’d choose Warren Sapp, because I’d love to see Sapp and Brady on the sideline together, and Sapp saying, you’re the GOAT baby, go get me some points, and then just letting Brady do his job. Meanwhile this team would have some personality and not just be bored to sleep, like the fans are, from watching these current jerk0–s waste this team away.

  48. Fansince76 Says:

very depressing! Byron needs to be fired ASAP!

  49. Tucker Says:

Fans have been calling leftwich out for most of the season so he is late to the party

  50. Goatfarmer Says:

    I can’t take it anymore.

  51. JR Says:

I never recall so many offensive 3 n outs each game.
    It’s the issue.

  52. Johnny D Says:

Joe you had this down as a W during the bye. I tried to tell you there are no easy games. Not for this team. Now the Saints then 49ers ?
This was coming out of their BYE ?!
    This team is missing something.

  53. Arn platz Says:

All we needed to do was move the chains and run out the clock. Fire leftwich NOW.

  54. JR Says:

Way to many 3 n outs. Problem all season.
That is why this team has a losing record,
    Period.

  55. mg Says:

uninspired offense that is without spirit

  56. Will Says:

As a Black man I’ve been happy to see this team embrace coaches that look like me for years now. With that said I want my team to be competitive and play with passion. I don’t expect a perfect season but go out there and fight every game. I’m sorry to say that this coaching staff doesn’t have it in them to bring the fire out in these players. BA would call Evans out for his lack of effort today. BA would call BL out for his lack of creativity in the play calling. Todd Bowels is a very good DC. He’s not a head coach he lacks passion and fire and sadly so do the Bucs this year. A team takes the coaches mentality. Todd do yourself a favor and FIRE BL and maybe you can turn this thing around.

  57. alton d green Says:

there’s next year, then the next year, etc etc??????????? Not without Tommy Boy. So the players lose the game not the coach????? had to read that several. Todd has the best QB in history and he’s got time to end it in regulation and what does Slingblade Todd do” he stands there and watches 13 precious seconds click off the clock. My friends As a career Brady fan I would normally say “we will pull it out, we’ve got Tom freak’n Brady” BUT wait a minute, we’re also stuck with Todd Bowles. He’s an absolute disgrace to football, the human race, his own race. NO my friends he WILL NOT BE BACK IN TAMPA. If you want to be a winner you associate with winners. what’s happened since Bruce left? That’s a rhetorical question

  58. captivajim Says:

NO way Brady ever comes back nxt yr with the Bucs…..The glazers are not going to make any mgmt/coaching changes–“RichBucs” laid that out pretty clearly..

  59. NEfan Says:

Doc, you’re an idiot, Brady isn’t waving off the HC’s timeout. He was as shocked as any of us no TO was called and the trips right was the call out of the huddle. On the 4th & 2 run a play or try a FG you don’t put your tail between your legs and punt from the opponents 37. Vilma was giving Leftnut all the credit for the scoring drive but when the TV panned BL he was just staring with that dumb look on his face. After the reverse call he made no other calls in that series.

  60. DoooshLaRue Says:

Thank you Will, I respect and agree with your take.

  61. Ed Says:

Boring coaches, boring team. No juice, no buzz.

There were multiple coaching blunders, time management was obviously something that Bowles has no awareness of.

The Evans catch on the sideline looked like he might have gotten that second foot down. Doesn’t Bowles know to reach for that red flag.

For the Bucs to be scoring under 20 points a game is insane. There is no wrinkles in the offense, no energy. Other that Chris Godwin was anyone else playing today?

Throwing the ball to Cam Brate is never going to get a first down. He is done, no speed, no seperation.

  62. NEfan Says:

Will very well put, the position should be granted to the most qualified no matter what race, gender or preference. That being said I believe Bowles is more to blame than BL, at least in this game. When it came up to doing what a HC is supposed to do at clutch moment he failed. BL is simply over his head. To be honest BA is to blame he had to have knowledge of how competent these two really are.

  63. Buc fan813 Says:

These are Brady’s plays he sat with Byron and came up with. You ppl are hilarious! BL came up under BA that’s his offensive philosophy. What you see on the field is a result of TB12. Nothing but 1yd passes to guys that can’t make anyone miss. He doesn’t want to hold on to the ball to let the routes develop down field. TB is better than any qb we’ve ever had in Tampa but he is the reason Mike Evans barely scapes a 1000 yards. Receivers constantly exploding off the line to find out he’s already thrown the ball to the Rb or another wr 1yd down the field.

  64. Will Says:

NEfan I can see your point. I’m looking at it more from the standpoint that this offense isn’t firing on all cylinders the defense has done enough in EVERY game to win with the exception of the KC game. Bowels messed up today by not taking the timeout and realizing who his QB is and the fact we only needed a FG to win. He played not to lose putting it on who he coaches to win the game which is the defense (yes I know he’s the Head Coach and technically coaches everyone) but I feel like he knows BL is over his head and has decided that if they’re going to lose he’d rather do it with the strength of the team which currently is the defense. I mean they did get the ball back to the offense during OT after we had it to start the OT. BL is the problem with this team.

  65. NEfan Says:

Will I would agree if not the fact for the last two seasons the Bucs have been a pass first offense and he has taken a 360° approach, run first, keep the game close and let D close out the game. I wasn’t broke so it didn’t need fixing. His record is what he is and that’s NOT a HC.

  66. LakelandSteve Says:

I don’t know how the Glazers can sit by and watch the greatest quarterback in history go out like this. It’s a disgrace! I am sure if Brady plays next year it will not be as a Buc. Why would he, after the ineptitude shown by the Glazers and the Bucs coaches and G.M.

  67. Steven L. Benner Says:

Just a Pitiful LOSS TODAY!!! The Bucs had so many chances! They bragged that they beat the Rams & the Seahawks and then LOSE to a team that has only 3 Wins & 7 Losses!!! Bradys Record was 7-1 against the Browns NOW it’s 7-2! This should have been an easy Win- if you can’t beat the Browns then you have absolutely NO Chance at beating the upcoming 49ers & Bengals!!! Brady played with Brisset when they were both Patriots…he knows how Brisset plays- also, the Bucs had a week OFF to rest and study the Browns yet they loose pitifully!!! Mike Evans wasn’t a factor- yet we couldn’t stop Chubb from his running game??!!! Our Coaching Staff Sucks!!! The SAME PLAYS BEING CALLED OVER & OVER: 1st down ALWAYS A Hand Off!!! It’s so predictable too many running plays and not enough 1st downs!!! Once Brady started to throw the Ball signs of life started to show! Too late….can’t be a hero with 8 minutes left on the Play Clock! LEFTWICH & BOWLES NEED TO GO!!! This Season for the Bucs is pretty much over…we have more Losses than Wins!!! No Super Bowl ahead just Toilet BOWLES!!! -Sad pitiful loss embarrassed to be a Bucs Fan!!!

  68. Will Says:

NEfan I remember too many interviews with BA saying that he had to get on BL for being too conservative. I do believe Bowels wants a lil less pass happy than last year but BL is taking it to the extreme.

  69. Oneilbuc Says:

Lamarcus. I agree 💯 percent no one gave BL credit for the super bowl it was all Brady and what Brady wants Brady gets. And now their is no accountability for Brady it’s the coaches fault now because Brady is 45 years old and playing like a 45 year old quarterback.

  70. Costa Rica John Says:

Coaching was bad and the team plays with no intensity. You can say the defense is playing well but when was the last time they got a meaningful turnover. I believe it was against New Orleans.
Offense just looks sad. They can’t get one yard when they need it.
I hate to root for a higher draft pick but it’s creeping into my mind.

  71. Redeemer Says:

Oneilbuc, it’s the coaches job to put the players in the best situations to win. If you think Bowles, BL and the special teams coach did that, you’re either ignorant, or just unintelligent. The staff made little to no adjustments. You’re blaming Brady because you hate him. Everyone here knows that. The HC wants a run first team. He’s living in the 90s. You can’t run the ball, play good defense and hope to win.

  72. Melmcclell Says:

There’s no “white hoods” out, T-Rex… It is just a FACT, that “BA” said it HIMSELF. So, that’s ALL on HIM. Tho, I don’t believe “BA” for shhhhh… He didn’t just decide all on his OWN, to step-aside… He was FORCED out, & that was soooo obvious. Whether, it was because of Brady/Glazers/or BOTH. “BA” just thought that’s what ‘sounded’ (and looked) good… For HIMSELF.

  73. JoeBuckYoself Says:

Wrongwich was offered a HC position because anytime a 👨🏿has a few good games of calling plays The PC NFL Wokesters that be have to fast track them into HC positions all in the pursuit “Diversity” in a league that’s all ready like 70% 👨🏿…..hmmm

  74. D-Rok Says:

@Will, I agree with most of your points. The issue is about productivity, not about race, and this TEAM has not produced this year, especially given their level of talent.

Bucs2022: Under-achievers of the year. From coaching, to players, this has been very disappointing. I thought for sure the Bucs would come out on fire and smoke the Browns, but no….

  75. Oneilbuc Says:

Redeemer. I get it when someone tells the truth how Brady is playing at 45 yall love to call it hate . I guess Brady is exempt from criticism to you but not to me. If this any other quarterback it wouldn’t be know one else fault but the quarterback and you know it. Now BL ain’t perfect just like any other coach in the NFL. But I knew once Brady plays bad they would be the scapegoats for Brady and none of yall gave BL credit in 2020 or last year remember it was all Brady. Now Brady is playing like his age because he don’t have AB or Gronk it’s BL and Bowles fault.

  76. Ontario Mike Says:

Creativity on offence…how about Browns 1st TD…no one touched the guy for 30 yds. Our OC is soooo predictable. Why continue to throw bombs at Evans…is he the fastest receiver we have ..NO ! Did Scotty even play? Was Otton even on the field? Smith’s stupid penalties really hurt our drives and he got windburn from Garrett blowing by him. Give him some help because Garrett is eating his lunch! Single coverage on Cooper…their best receiver…reminds me of another Cooper (Krupp) who killed us when we let him loose for a long gain with only Winfield on him. Yeah our run defence is so solid..NOT ! Bet the Saints, 49ers and Bengals are licking their chops.

  77. Anonymous Says:

I have to agree that the independent variable is coaching. Toward the last 40 seconds someone should have called a time out and saved that time to get a field goal for the win. We had less time with Rams if you recall? Also, i did no see tight end screens or running back screens or Cade Ottten down the seams.

When the Browns did score on 4-10 and before Bowles failed to call or use timeouts to give his team even more time to make a run.
Honestly, Arians was the attack high energy coach .

  78. albp14t Says:

How can they blow and waste 22 seconds on the clock with 2 time outs. that’s on the coaches and Brady!

  79. We know better Says:

They need to fire the Head coach! Hes not coaching. Shows no expression , doesn’t call a time out instead waste 13 seconds. NOBODY called a time out. What’s going on? Are they afraid of pissing off Brady? No time management. Not making the other team use their time outs. The Browns marched right down the field because the defense was tired and the offense wasnt making high percentage throws or runs period. The coach looKs like a DUNCE.

  80. Larry Says:

Time to rebuild with a new HC and GM
    ..Brady included

  81. Steve Says:

BL s coaching is like Bowles in last year’s Rams game. You single cover Cooper Kupp when the game is on the line and there is a defense miscommunication, where 2 players who were supposed to Blitz didn’t.

  82. Steve Says:

Give Brady decent protection and a good game plan and it’s Super Bowl
    (not Bowles) time.

  83. Anonymous Says:

Put no blame on Brady? If this was Winston we all would say Get rid of him. But Brady, let’s point the finger at everyone but him. Come on now. In game and the presser he looks like his 45. He can’t move. He’s a sitting duck out there. It’s sad to watch but let’s blame everyone but Brady. 🤷🏽‍♂️
