Devin White Named Defensive Player Of The Week

November 16th, 2022

Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White earned the NFC Defensive Player of the Week honor he was given today.

On Sunday, White did it all during the Bucs’ 21-16 win against Seattle. He notched his fourth and fifth sacks of the season and finished with nine tackles, three quarterback hits, a tackle for loss, and a critical forced fumble.

Yes, White has won this previously. He also was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month in September. Bucs media relations notes that White is the only inside linebacker to have one Defensive Player of the Week three times since 2019, the year the Bucs made him the No. 5 overall pick in the draft.

Joe thinks White has earned an incalculable amount of respect for Sunday’s output considering it came three days after he learned of the death of his father, who was just 45 years old.

It’s about time he backed up his jive with his play. We know how good he is. 🙂

Player of month & now week….Having a pretty good year…

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Yea he wins the award and then follows up with the atrocious play of any linebacker of the XFL league. It’s almost guaranteed like Mike Evans getting hurt on the first play of ever game. Those are the death and taxes of this team

    Jensen Status??

  5. SufferingSince76 Says:

I hope the fire under him has been permanently lit. We need to see more of the Devin White we saw in Munich.

  6. Buddha Says:

    Inconsistent. Was awful against Ravens.

  7. Caleb Says:

His problem has always been consistentcy. It doesn’t help that every time he plays well he gets a bouquet of flowers thrown at him. Needs to not get a big head and keep grinding to get better.

  8. Winky Says:

    Keep it going, White 👍

  9. Chris K Says:

Cut him! Trade him! Remove his captaincy! Blah blah blah.. Does that about cover the ignorance when it comes to understanding good games and bad games in the league?

The man threw the defense on his back when we won the Super Bowl. Some people’s memories are just so short obviously.

  10. Ash Says:

Always good to see Devin balling out go bucs.

  11. Craig Says:

I will almost agree with that.

I did see him actually tackle the running back a few times, something that had looked his doom before.

I hope he can keep it up, he has tremendous physical assets, but his brain wasn’t in the right place.

  12. Eckwood Says:

    Consistency Problem = ego & attention > film , assignments & football

  13. Marine Buc Says:

I’m happy he was able to take a massive amount of (well deserved) criticism after the Ravens game and bounce back and prove he is still a baller…

Nice work Devin – you da man!!!!

  14. Duane Says:

Wow, Hicks comes back, and Great White playing at an elite level again. Good thing this kid can still perform with all the criticism he has taken lately. Excellent performance on Sunday #45.

  15. LakelandSteve Says:

White was phenomenal. How much was the D-like keeping blockers off of him? Irregardless, he played maybe the best game of the season. I was one of the ones very critical of him following the Ravens game when he played poorly, so when he plays like he did Sunday I have to give him his due.

  16. Buczilla Says:

If Devin can play close to this level consistently, then he’s going to the hall of fame. The problem is that he just dissapears in far too many games. He’s still young, so there’s hope, but it’s just frustrating watching him play lights out in one game and then like Barrett Ruud in the next two.

  17. Texas Buc 1976 Says:

The White Boys were outstanding in Munchen, D & R. I’ve been critical of Devin for high missed tackles and bad angles, discipline issues. But boy he stepped up Sunday. Hats off to the young man.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

I was LITERALLY the only one defending him when all you other morons were demanding he was cut because you watched one out of context clip on Twitter. Now you idiots try to backpedal, LOL!

Anyone who says White doesn’t give full effort is just a low IQ dullard who doesn’t pay attention to the game and is easily manipulated. Taking a clip, from defensive play 74 of a game where Devin’s been flying around, spying the best running QB in the game, and then when he’s spent – claiming that he’s lazy, the only thing lazy are the people reporting that fake news claim.

I was right again, as always, and you dopes don’t have a clue what you’re watching.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

Buczilla – When he does ‘disappear’, it’s almost always because of the defensive play calling. Last year when he ‘disappeared’, when people on this site were saying he wasn’t doing enough, etc, it was because all the corners were injured and the Bucs were playing, almost exclusively, zone, and all White was asked to do was sit in zone. First, White stinks playing zone, it was a complete waste of his talent. But second, just standing back in zone, mean he took a huge hit to his stats because there just wasn’t as much to do.

Same thing this year. They’re still playing a lot more zone than they did the SB year, and when that is the case, there isn’t much for White to do. That’s what is called ‘disappearing’. With Hicks back, it seems like the Bucs have gotten a little more aggressive in playcalling on defense, and when White is just told to attack, not sit back in a passive zone, this is the result.

Even with that said, even if you are attacking every game, you’re not getting 2 sacks a game. Warren Sapp didn’t get 2 sacks a game, and he wasn’t loafing. It’s just the nature of the game and who you’re playing and who they decide to gameplan for.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Unmet expectations……..they will get you every time…..

I have always been a DW45 supporter…..but was disappointed earlier this year….he has certainly redeemed himself…..I suspect we will see him continue to play well down the stretch.

For those who want to trade him…..can you suggest his replacement…..K. J. Britt is on the IR.

  21. Jimothy Says:

MAAAANNNN Some of yall have some wild takes. If Tom Brady is allowed to have a bad game, so is Devin White. He IS a great LB and will continue to be one. We were all mad at Sapp, Rice, hell even D. Brooks when they had bad games. They all are remembered as Bucs greats and so will D. White.

guaranteed like you misspelling a word or not making any sense in a sentence.

  23. David Says:

Love him. He just needs to keep playing freely, but disciplined.

  24. MadMax Says:

    Much deserved.

And Im with you Rod, ya’ll know I was one of the first here lobbying for us to draft him. I didnt say much these past games because one, i’ll admit im biased, two i just dont put the time and energy into people’s comments most of the time…dont care to argue….i didnt know what was going on in the background (Football Gods/By design/Whatever) But something got him going and Im glad it did and I hope he stays healthy and continues shining for that #5 pick overall where I was criticized that was too high for a LB.

    LFG!!!!

  25. JimmyJack Says:

We need consistency. Maybe moreso we need White to step it up when it matters most………He didnt did it last year in the 1st half of that Rams Game and we got sent home.

If White is our best player on defense we are Championship material.
