Chris Godwin Opens Up On His Recovery

November 11th, 2022

It’s rare to hear Chris Godwin talk about the health of his surgically-repaired knee, but he did today.

It was last December when a low blow from Slimy Saints defender took out Godwin’s ACL. Early January surgery followed by a supremely dedicated rehab had Godwin back on the field for opening day.

He’s played well, but it hasn’t been Godwin-like. Averaging less than 10 yards per catch is Adam Humphries territory, not Godwins.

The Bucs Pro Bowl receiver said he feels the small and successful steps he’s taking and he’s committed to the process that will get him back to 100 percent.

“Each week I can feel, you know, certain things kinda coming back to what I would need to be normal,” Godwin said. “But it’s a growing process. It’s fluid.”

He went on to say he’s bringing positive energy daily and nothing gets in the way of his grind, “All I know is to work, so I’m going to keep doing that,” Godwin said.

It would be spectacular if Godwin found his way back to 100 percent four or five weeks — just in time for the stretch run and the postseason.

Yes, the Bucs would have to have an implosion of historic proportions to lose their hold on the NFC South. So Joe currently is using the “P” word, aka playoffs.

Hope the rest of his body holds up, so often theses guys blow out something else because of imbalances from other muscles overcompensating

  2. D-Rok Says:

I think when Godwin truly returns to form, coupled with other healthy WR’s, we can easily add 7 points per game. At least, that’s the hope!!

    Go Godwin and Go Bucs!!!

  3. D-Rok Says:

*add 7 MORE points per game.

    Hopefully 10…

  4. Deeez NATZ Says:

Hope the bucs come out firing against the see cocks….But they won’t because of Mr butthole toilet bowl.

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Weren’t we told last week that he was finally healthy?

    Whatever.

My prediction…if we don’t win this next day, I predict Bowels (intentional) gets fired.

Then, either Arians steps in, or Leftwich becomes interim head coach. Who knows? Just like some HCs are better coordinators, sometimes coordinators can be better HCs?

Maybe what this team needs is an offensive head coach?

So far as Lefty as OC, I think Bowles has been interfering with offensive game plans. Brady would not be getting along with Leftwich if he felt he was the issue.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai … ‘Then, either Arians steps in, or Leftwich becomes interim head coach.’

Oh wow Bonzai, tell me you’re just playing with our minds. Leftwich as interim HC? He’s not the solution; he’s at the heart of this whole problem. You’ve ASSUMED that Bowles ‘has been interfering with offensive game plans’ … and thus let Leftwich off the hook … without a shred of proof. And no, Brady not beating the daylights out of BL instead of reeking havoc on Microsoft isn’t proof.

Far as BA taking over as HC, not gonna happen. Notice how quiet he’s been since that early season altercation with the refs? He’s disappeared. BA knows exactly what’s going on, and no way does he want back in. Quite the opposite; I’m convinced that BA saw the writing on the wall & bailed, hoping that Bowles could do a decent job with what Licht saddled him with, and preserving the coaching staff in the process. Todd’s not a head coach; he’s a caretaker.

Oh and if Bowles gets fired and either BA or BL becomes HC, who takes over as DC? Bowles has been saddled with TWO hats after all. You don’t just fire one hat. Bowles has this defense playing at a high level WHEN it’s reasonably healthy. Would that continue if Bowles was fired?

  7. WillieG Says:

    Playoffs?! Playoffs? 😂

The Bucs are trailblazers. They have many firsts and they will have another when this season ends. They will be the first team to win a Super Bowl following a losing season.

And I’m perfectly okay with that.

  8. D-Rok Says:

Good points, DR. I firmly believe Todd is at the least a very good DC, maybe even excellent. The Rams playoff game was an unfortunate hiccup, but he made a believer out of me with his gameplan against the Chiefs in the SB.

Is Todd a good head coach? Not sure yet, but my optimism and confidence wanes a tad more each week.

Let’s see the exit polling on Todd when the season is all said and done before we cast those stones.

  9. Rand Says:

You know when athletes suffer major injuries like surgery repaired ACL’s it has a subconscious affect on doubting their ability. In the back of their minds they wonder if they will ever be the same again and then there is always the fear they may reinjure it. Not every athlete who was great before an ACL injury played the same after their return. In fact many retire within a few years of recovery. Let’s hope Godwin is able to consciously puts this behind him and resume being Godwin like again.

  10. Jeff Says:

This is why Shaq will not be back.

  11. Beej Says:

    His contract says otherwise

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

Now would be a good time for Godwin to explode back on the scene. Otherwise the only postseason will be betting on the date and time of Bowelswich termination.

But given the buffoon calling the plays that everyone knows are coming, it’s unlikely that a 300% Godwin would make much of a difference.

  13. BucfaninMi Says:

They’re basically in the “P” word, at least that’s the mindset they need. Lose too many more and it might be over.

  14. BucfaninMi Says:

    Will be over.

  15. Your Mom Says:

This makes me wonder just how banged up the entire team is that we never hear about, including Brady.

Could it be that the TB12 program is pseudo-scientific hogwash? If everybody is weaker, slower, and more prone to injury, it would cost Brady a lot of money to have to admit that publicly.

  16. sasquatch Says:

Jeez, one win by the skin of their teeth, against a team that is also kinda crap this year, and Joe has enough confidence in them winning enough games to talk playoffs. Let’s remember, the win was a fluke. It was a loss by every measure until 9 seconds left. Does anyone believe they can even win 3 more games without a dramatic turnaround? I don’t. Is it possible that the come-from-behind win was enough to inspire better execution and effort to overcome the sh!t playcalling that we’ll continue to see? Doubtful… but I guess it could happen. They are a terrible team right now though. I’m not convinced they’re better than the other crap in our division.

  17. Floridamang Says:

As God is my witness I hate the F:;king Saints so much.

  18. PassingThru Says:

Eh, Bonzai is right. We keep hearing crap about Godwin being near 100%, we’ve been reading that crap for weeks. I commend Godwin for being out there, but he’s far from 100%.

  19. Oddball Says:

    Todd’s not a head coach; he’s a caretaker.

And there it is. Best take all season DR.

  20. Bojim Says:

He’s not there. Hope he takes it slow and gets back to being Godwin but He’s not there yet.

  21. Bojim Says:

If anybody can recover from this its Godwin. He’s got the right mindset to keep working hard.

  22. lambchop Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai,

If we lose, TB is not getting fired. This whole coaching staff is built on the good ole boys network. It ain’t happening. And who would be the DC? You think TB will get fired while BA has groomed these guys for so long and he’d be happy to replace TB in that circumstance?

We’re going to ride this out to the end of the season and see what happens. But, this is going to be tricky without these coaches getting offers from other teams. I don’t see JL and BA firing anyone, they’ll cough it up to a rough season of transition and injuries. And obviously Tom Brady will factor in to the whole thing in some way whether he wants to play next season or not.

  23. orlbucfan Says:

How was the win against the Rams a fluke? Bucs have always had problems beating them. They were last year’s SB champs. Brady will do CG14 a big favor by NOT calling that potential pick6 lateral looking play! Doesn’t Brady have the power to override BL and TB? That’s what I’ve been reading for months. That play is a potential disaster. I hate it, and I follow Bucs Radio. Hope Brady is not half senile tomorrow.
