Updates On Julio Jones, Russell Gage And Odell Beckham

October 9th, 2022

Julio!

Receivers are always big news at One Buc Palace considering how much the Bucs throw and how much change there is at the position.

Will oft-injured legend Julio Jones play today? NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport hit Twitter early this morning to declare that a pregame workout will answer that question. Julio’s sprained knee just isn’t perfect yet.

Joe thinks this is more smokescreen than anything else. Joe finds it hard to believe Julio doesn’t play against the Falcons, his former team, for the first time.

Big-money free agent receiver Russell Gage, Tampa Bay’s leading receiver with 21 catches, added a new back injury to his list of woes late last week. However, per Rapoport, Gage is expected to play today.

And yes, free agent Odell Beckham is still on the street rehabbing his knee after ACL surgery in February. Rapoport says Beckham is targeting a mid-November return this season. Rapoport put it in writing at NFL.com that the Bucs, Packers, Bills and Chiefs are in the conversation for Beckham’s services.

Rapoport added that it’s highly unlikely Beckham will sign before he’s completely healthy.

Another can’t-miss episode, heavy on today’s game.

  1. August 1976 Buc Says:

Odell wants to play on a Tom Brady team before Tom says adios amigos. So if the Bucs do not look like crap on Defense like the Chief game, he will sign in Tampa. Then when Brady leaves , Odell will sign with the Packers. Just my personal opinion , lol no sources lo

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  2. EEK Says:

    Plausible and optimistic
I like the thinking there 1976

  3. #8 Says:

    No update on Suh?
    Suh.

  4. FrontFour Says:

Love this. We keep signing guys that can’t play, so they can say they “played” with Tom Brady. Julio should just retire. No idea why Gage is so fragile now. I’m sure there are $10 million reasons. Same with Permian. I’d rather put some guys out there that are going play hard than all these guys that are “stars” who hang out on the sidelines in street clothes and collect a check. Get after it Mr. Licht.

  5. Bojim Says:

Just as long as Evans and Godwin are there.

  6. FrontFour Says:

And yes. One of those guys should be Suh.

  7. Beeej Says:

Absent even MORE injuries to our starters, OBJ would make the biggest impact with the Packers

  8. Francisco Guzman Says:

This team needs to stop underperforming. The packers are an example of a team overperforming with a brand new receiving corps pretty much. Need to win today and look impressive doing so.

  9. BigMacAttack Says:

For the price of OBJ you could get a premier lineman on either side of the ball. It’s a hard pass for me. I’d rather have Gronk back.

  10. Francisco Guzman Says:

BigMacAttack gronk or wait later on and see if you can trade for a corner. I still don’t trust these corners.

  11. Wild Bill Says:

Sheesh, the Bucs are already loaded with over paid physically challenged aging veteran receivers who miss more games than they play. Time to go young, fast and healthy! Build for the future instead of becoming a retirement home for the old and infirm.

  12. Elita Vita Says:

Robert Gronkowski, we need you! Can’t you see the (Gronk, Bat Signal) up in the sky??? Be our super hero and return to Tampa Bay! We love you Gronk!!

  13. ChiBuc Says:

How about this coaches… start coaching up younger healthier guys and stop relying on past reputation of oft injured overpriced mercenaries circling the league like turds in a toilet bowl.

Meanwhile a rock of consistency, Suh, awaits for Vea to lean on so the media can resume their gushing over how much push Vea gets.

  14. Pewter Power Says:

Beckham will be useless this year. No more injured receivers please. He’s no spring chicken anymore. Just because he’s back and ready to play does not mean he’ll be effective. That injury will slow him down until next training camp

  15. Fairminded Says:

I always trust Licht and it’s hard to plan around injuries, but we cut healthy young and productive receivers like Grayson and Tyler Johnson in favour of guys who keep getting injured. I’m not piling on Gage…he wasn’t targeted enough early on and when he has been he’s been productive. But knowing Godwin can’t be 100%, Julio is banged up, Scotty isn’t producing and we have little to no TE production…make some moves Mr. Licht.

  16. DungyDance Says:

Beckham not worth the likely price, given his propensity for injuries and drama. And I might say it would take too much valuable time to learn our offensive schemes, but then again he and everyone else in the world already know how to predict the Leftwich game plan. Also per CBS, the Bucs are not on Becham’s short list. CBS (John Breech) reporting he is interested in Chiefs, Packers, Rams, Bills, or Ravens.

  17. AbucAway Says:

OBJ will end up in KC or Buffalo. Just let it go, my fellow Buccaneers.

  18. Fairminded Says:

I have no illusions that Cyril Grayson and Tyler Johnson are game wreckers, but they are healthy, young, and KNOW the playbook and system. Bringing in anyone else from outside, they have a severe learning curve. Example Beasley who decided not to stick it out. Those guys can at least produce immediately. No idea how to fix our TE situation if the team doesn’t trust throwing to the guys we have on roster. That’s a glaring issue.

  19. Fairminded Says:

Looking them up…Grayson had an injury settlement and can’t rejoin the team until week 8. But is still out there and available so hopefully he’s keeping fit. Tyler Johnson is on the Texans but not playing. Easy to make a deal with Texans for a player they don’t even have plans for

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Suh would be great…but at this point I want Gronk more.

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Fairminded, trading for a player who we let go would not be advisable.

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

OB will not be coming to Tampa this year. It’s all hype.

  23. Whoolio? Says:

Julio out again. Just put him on IR and pick up someone who can actually get on the field. Heard Joey Galloway is still running a 4.4.

  24. Antonio Says:

Julio just wanna play at the casino. He doesn’t want to play football anymore.

  25. Thadeus Says:

We don’t need Odel. He’s washed up. And we should trade Godwin, Miller and Gage and get some O-line help.
