Leftovers From The Locker Room

October 9th, 2022

Bucs WR Chris Godwin.

Joe opened his phone this morning and re-listened to on-the-record chats last week with players in the Bucs’ locker room. Here are a few nuggets:

Chris Godwin

(On why the Dixie Chicks should be formidable today.)

“They are playing with a lot of momentum right now. They won two straight.”

Antoine Winfield

(On how recent run defense hiccups are just a blip.)

“Yeah, it’s football. It happens sometimes. All we can do is learn from it. We just have to do better. We are professionals. We have to handle our business.”

Lavonte David

(Assessing the defense through four games.)

“Still [can see] a lot of improvement, but it’s promising. Some of the things we have put out there have not been up to our standard. We’re still progressing. We’re still getting better. We still have a lot of faith about what we do defensively. We still have to produce a full four quarters.

(On what specifically the defense needs to improve with to be a championship defense again.)

“We have to get back to our bread and butter and stopping the run. Teams have been getting a little too comfortable with the run. If we take care of that, everything else will take care of itself.”

Anthony Nelson

(On if he gets more snaps because he’s producing.)

“I know if I am in a position to help the team win, I will do whatever that takes.”

change up JTS for Nelson he is more productive period! stop playing the 1st round draft pick as he hasn’t shown anything!

  2. Leopold Stotch Says:

I agree. Nelson over JTS9 rn

  3. HC Grover Says:

    More Nelson. less Plan 9

  4. Parrishbucsfan Says:

    Suh

  5. BucsfanFred Says:

Even Nassib is better than JTS.

  6. BucsfanFred Says:

I just saw that Devin Thompkins and Kalon Geiger are activated for today. Look forward to seeing them..

Agree that Nelson makes plays when he is in there, but it doesn’t seem like its enough. But the big problem is stopping the run. I know its hindsight, but replacing the durable 36 year old Suh with a 38 year old often injured and
unavailable Hicks has hurt the Linebacker’s ability to make plays. There have also been times when he misses plays because he doesn’t break down to make
tackles and misses the tackle. If he had not hesitated and done this he would not have been so easily fooled on the play where Mahomes faked him out.

Wanna stop the run ? Go get suh !

  9. orlbucfan Says:

Okay, Bowles, this Defense is better than that joke on the field last week. I know it was a healthy Kansas City with a hair up their posterior about the Bucs beating them in the SB, but still….!

  10. Bojim Says:

    Don’t ‘just show up’ D.

  11. Tony1775 Says:

JTS should stay in weight room for game.

  12. Wild Bill Says:

Been saying since last year JTS did not fit the role he was selected for. Good athlete, poor fit. Might be a good tight end if he has decent hands. Tiny dancer as a pass rusher.

  13. ChiBuc Says:

Why does Shaq always get a free pass? I’d really like to see a stat where his qb “pressure” still resulted in the opponent getting a first down. Yes he gets stats, but he has little impact when needed. This is a big cap player that somehow gets a pass because of past stats

  14. Scooter Says:

@ Bob in Valrico: Hicks is 32 years old, last played in the Saints game. Vea needs a Hicks or Suh next to him to be more effective.

  15. Lg55 Says:

Let the rookie wide receivers have a few surprise plays.
    Play wide open but when it’s 3rd & 2 don’t throw 30yds downfield.
Atlanta is a really good team. Quarterback can run when it’s necessary and keep the ball away from Brady. BUCS defensive line looks whimpy.
