Running Rachaad White

October 25th, 2022

Bucs RB Rachaad White.

In case some didn’t read this on Monday, Joe turned the page on Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Joe has had it. Enough is enough.

The final straw for Joe involved Bucs running back Rachaad White. Bringing Nick Leverett in at left guard must have done something for chemistry because all of a sudden White, running Bryon Leftwich’s favorite Woody Hayes play (a running back plunging up the middle), was getting really good production.

But Leftwich cannot help himself and he quickly went back to what has worked so well for the Bucs this year: Running Playoff Lenny up the guy behind Luke Goedeke. As a result, the Bucs a play later turned the ball over on downs.

Joe sensed White should have carried the rock more, preferably with Leverett on the field. And yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles addressed White getting more touches.

“He’s not running back one, but he should get some more plays,” Bowles said. “We’ve always talked about every week. He does some good things when the ball’s in his hands, he does some good things when he’s out there.

“Obviously, Leonard [Fournette] is a great running back as well, so we’ve got to find a happy medium and have both of them touch the ball.”

There is no question the Bucs can find a happy medium. And to keep Playoff Lenny happy, make sure he understands he’s going to be fried by Thanksgiving the way he’s been used.

White is slowly improving. Joe guesses that’s to be expected from a rookie. He averaged four yards a carry against Carolina, his best this season.

I never wanted Leftwich here to begin with but BA was supporting this guy! He sucked as QB and is even worse at being a coordinator/play caller. The fact he was a coaching candidate was a joke and our only hope of ditching this guy. Glad you finally see it now Joe!

  2. AKicknTheBucNuts Says:

This is good news to know when the Bucs run Lenny up the middle behind Goedeke for the first 3 plays against the Ravens.

  3. Caleb Says:

Fournette is just not a dynamic runner. White should start getting more touches as long as he holds on to the ball.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

White seems to be more successful on short yardage….I think he’s quicker to the hole….Like Rojo…..
Our playcalling needs to improve greatly…..we are constantly throwing passes too short to get the first down…..they are getting stuffed.
    Screens, checkdowns, WR screens…..not working….
Need more 10 yard passes instead of 5….to TEs RBs WRs…..

  5. SufferingSince76 Says:

We will find out Thursday night if Byron listens to his boss.

  6. Outsider Says:

Fournette’s problem is also a mental one. We know he can play when he turns it up. I think White has been doing “better” because defenses aren’t necessarily focused on him as much as they do Lenny.

  7. BucsFanSince76 Says:

Look at the tape of Lenny at first contact when he gets wrapped-Lenny stops churning his legs almost immediately-Fournette has lost a step and there is no denying it. Bucs have no runs of 20+ yards for the season , and I believe we may be the only team that does not.

  8. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

Watch us dominate on thurs lol

  9. matthew a veal Says:

small sample size, could be change of pace effect.

either way i dont see edgerrin james in this guy. Edge turned his franchise around immediately.

  10. unbelievable Says:

Leftwich is clueless, and it’s appearing that Bowles is as well.

They have no feel for the flow of the game, no clue how to utilize their players strengths, and no idea how to keep opposing teams off balance.

“We do what we do.” And what they do is simply pathetic.

And the attitude of the players reflects this. No heart. No passion. No desire.

    Pathetic.

  11. LVMYBUCS Says:

Leftwich sucked as a QB and sucks a as coach

  12. Adrnagy Says:

Lefty is stubborn period. Brady needs to go back to himself and distribute the ball like he has. This are easy fix.
Take shot down the field , down the middle with otton , Rudolph. Play action. Mix the playcalling. Easy fix. Versus run on first run on second

  13. CChead Says:

Use White in the first half, hopefully take the lead into back half of the game and then pound Lenny into a tired opposing defense. Pretty simple actually. But our coaching staff are simple minded and are clueless.

  14. Bojim Says:

More snaps to White and may as well run Sneak BL!!!

  15. Smashsquatch Says:

More touches for White! Eyes don’t lie, he has more juice and elusiveness. Play him.

  16. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I think Arians hid the major flaws in both Leftwich and Bowles.
I will never forget how Bowles stupid play call against the Rams cost us that game!
To leave Cooper Cupp one on one with the game on the line was more than stupid.
    It was Criminal
So then we go and reward Bowles by promoting him to head coach.
    Go Figure ?

  17. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

Lefty is so bad that he should not be coaching anywhere in the NFL. Glazers & Licht need to stop listening to BA. He is fullof crap. Bowles & Lefty are proof. Bowles is a decent DC but not HC material.

  18. Kentucky Buc Says:

Very small sample size. Lenny’s getting hit in the backfield on a lot of those plays. No way you can blame him for the piss poor line play.

  19. Caleb lee Says:

F it. Ley Brady call the plays.

  20. Jack dos Santos Says:

@Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa – I agree with you 100% although I hate dwelling on something that happened last year. I am still bitter about that!.

The clarity of difference between Brady’s brilliance and Bowles stupidity exists in the following statements.

Bowles press conference after the loss at 2:19 he says you never take practice to the game. Brady on the other says on his “lets go” podcast at 10:46. “You gain confidence through execution at practice. then you have a degree of confidence that carries over into the game.

This is not the first time Brady and Bowles have made opposing statements after losses. I ASK YOU. WHO SHOULD THE GLAZER FAMILY TRUST?

  21. alton d green Says:

there is only 1 running back that could have a consistantly good withe BL as coach………..Barry Sanders hahahah

  22. Sucatkane Says:

I say we bring back in both undrafted WR and let them get plays we need an ol until we can build enough time for brady to throw and not be worried about getting hit we might as well play for future

  23. gotbbucs Says:

“We”, whoever that is, sure does a lot of talking inside OneBuc about things they did wrong on the field during the game. Then low and behold, they continue to do the wrong thing on the field the next week. Then you guessed it, “We” talked about again this week and it’s something that “We” have to do better next game.

Fournette isn’t going to put himself at risk by running hard. He knows he’ll likely be trying to get released or traded in the offseason and he just got paid, so what’s in it for him? Self-preservation and live to collect a check another day.
It’s obvious to everybody that White has a better chance to maximize yardage per touch, but Lenny is making more money and Brady wants Ole Faithful out there with him on the field.

Just keep losing so we can move on with better draft capital next year.

  24. Arn platz Says:

Bucs run game is ranked last in the league. Nowhere to go but up….unless leftwich is driving

  25. The Big Sombrero Says:

I love me some Fournette however, I think its time for a change at the RB position. It all starts with the beasts up front though, if there are no holes/gaps even Marshawn Lynch wouldn’t be able to do squat in there. Well, maybe I’m wrong about that one. 🙂 To get to my point, I think it might be time that we switch over to some fresh legs and let White loose. The kid is so talented and has amazing hands out in the flat. Let’s utilize the screen pass and wheel routes to our RB’s more. Hopefully BL will get his head out of the sand and realize that his game plan just ain’t working. Or, never has!!!

  26. captivajim Says:

bowles is a low energy guy , no fire in his belly , –i’m tired of his usual speal .. I suspect more & more players are also.

  27. IE Buc Says:

White needs some more touches, but so does Keshawn Vaughn. Whatever happened to him? He is a speedy guy. Give White and Vaughn carries.

  28. HC Grover Says:

Mr. Bowles, I thought White was a running back. So what is he?

  29. 2022 return of the goat Says:

    Fire BL

  30. Da Bucs Guy Says:

    Fire Licht!

  31. Davenport Says:

Dress Fournette, White & Vaughan – split the carries and keep them all fresh.

Deactivate “Sidelines” if you need to open up a roster spot on gameday. He isn’t doing anything anyway.

This team can probably stumble into winning the division. They have 10 games to get playoff ready.

I am dreaming, I know, but nothing would make me happier than Brady sticking it to all the media and critics piling on him.

  32. macajubav Says:

    Bowels is too low energy.
BA pushed too much crap on this team, letting all these tag alongs slip into jobs of power ! What could the Glazers say ? They got stuck , f-ed with having to promote bowels or BL.

  33. Rand Says:

Brady threw one slant and low and behold it was completed for 8 yards. I don’t understand why we don’t incorporate more slants and intermediate out routes. Everything are post, screens and check downs. Brady was deadly in NE with slant routes.

  34. JimmyJack Says:

Well you run White more because Fournette hasnt given us a single 20+ yard run all year.

  35. Stephen M Gonda Jr Says:

If there is a hole, Lenny gets major momentum and can gain some serious yards, it’s hard to bring him down when in motion. if there isn’t a hole, he gets swallowed up.
