Peter King Has Tom Brady’s Back (A Little)

October 19th, 2022

Defends Tom Brady. Sort of.

A long-time NFL scribe who moonlights on national TV is sticking up for Tom Brady. Sort of.

It seems folks are beginning to pile on Brady, with decades of pent-up frustration, saying for the first time in his NFL career Brady might be the leader of a losing team.

And here come the vultures. Suddenly Brady is a a me-guy now that he blew off a meeting and a walkthrough to attend the wedding of an NFL owner not named “Glazer.” And it still irks some that the greatest quarterback who ever lived, who was leading the NFC in passing a week ago, has the nerve to take Wednesdays off (even though he continues to practice on Wednesdays).

And elf-rattled, green-lawns-frowning, soggy-socks-wearing, Daylight-Savings-Time-scared, crossword-puzzle-puzzled, Elon-Musk-peeved, Barstool-Sports-triggered, almond-milk-sipping, hot-dog-eating-contest-protesting, mock-draft-scowlingL.L.-Bean-wearing, tennis fans’ advocate, Second Amendment abolitionistMike-Florio-arguingparrot-insensitivechewing-with-his-mouth-opensoup-gulpingCalifornia-train-romancing, anti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal-picture-takingvideo-game-playingTaylor-Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowning, Allie LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft-beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-training, Budweiser-tolerantbaseball-scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay-Adams-following, Coors-Light-souring, pineapple-upside-down-cake-eating social activist and NFL insider of NBC Sports fame, Peter King, has had enough of it.

Rag on Brady if you want for leaving the Bucs on a game week to go party with his former boss, creepy Bob Kraft, has-been Elton John and NFL strongman Roger Goodell, King said. But back off Brady for skipping a midweek practice to rest.

Appearing in his weekly spot during the football season with the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of SiriusXM fame, King seems fed up.

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo: Did you have a problem with Brady, the Kraft party, met [the Bucs] in Pittsburgh. Didn’t fly back to Tampa [after the party], off on Wednesdays. Then he yells at the offensive line which didn’t look good when you consider the fact he wasn’t necessarily all-in during the week. He’s kind of doing his own thing — he’s earned the right. But he’s kind of doing his own thing. What’s your take on the Brady scenario with that franchise right now? What do you see?

Peter King: Well, it’s not like Tom Brady is taking Wednesdays off. He’s just not practicing on Wednesdays. And they’ve got four guys on that team, including Julio Jones, who also doesn’t practice on Wednesdays. It’s a matter of trying to preserve guys so they can play for a full 17-game season. Now, the Friday thing, look, he didn’t skip practice on Friday. If there is any question about [skipping out of town] it is the fact that he did not do the walkthrough with the team on Saturday at the Tampa facility. I think that is open to question. You know, he separated himself from the team. But the Wednesday thing, look, he did everything on Friday he was supposed to do. Fridays are an early day for NFL teams. They get out of there by two o’clock on Friday, so that wasn’t an issue. But the Saturday issue I think is open for debate.

This whole thing about Kraft’s wedding would have been forgotten if the Bucs had an offensive coordinator who was dialed in sufficiently. But they didn’t. And the Bucs lost. So Brady and the Bucs should have seen this hollering coming.

People will continue to bellyache until the Bucs win.

Joe personally doesn’t give a crap about Brady cussing out his offensive teammates. But you know what, that could backfire. Joe imagines there is at least one player that caught hell from Brady who thought, “Old man, at least I was here working and not shoving my nose up the tailpipe of a boomer who (allegedly) frequents Asian strip mall bathhouses in Jupiter.”

Too bad Tom Brady doesn’t have the team’s back!
    Excuses are for losers
Getting late for the roster to become a
    Team
The strangest chapter in Buc history

I enjoy the TB12 haters, when TB12 is the only reason Bucs won a freaking Super Bowl (in 2020), semi-close in 2021, and have a chance in 2022.

O-Line upset because TB12 points out reality…give me an effing break.
Doesn’t have the team’s back…give me an effing break.

Chill guys. Let the season play out. It isn’t over until it is.
Lots of issues on this team. And most have zero to do with TB12.
Look in the mirror Bucs. Sack up.

    In the meantime…Suh.

If the team doesn’t have it down by the walkthrough, the walkthrough isn’t going to make any difference.

Like everyone else, King points to Leftwich–who hasn’t noticed that without Marpet and Jensen that A gap isn’t quite there for Lenny.

  6. Jerseybuc Says:

Can tell the new fans bagging in Brady. Best QB to play here. I lived through
Gradkowski, Josh Johnson, simms, greise, both mccowns, Glennon, freeman, jaymiss sure am missing a guy. I watched truly bad football for a long time. It’s ok to be pissed about last week I def am but they will win this weekend hopefully get back on track

  7. BA’s Red Pen Says:

How is that Saints prediction look now. King is a tool and nobody under the age of 60 gives a sh!t what Peter King says, it would be more compelling if you summarized some of the other C-list local Bucs talk over that dinosaur.

  8. David Says:

It would not be a big deal if the entire offense was playing better.
BL’s not calling the greatest games.
Brady is not trusting his receivers or line and looks to dump the ball off in about 1.5 seconds.
The O line has not been great.
    The running game isn’t there.
Maybe the receivers aren’t getting separation or running great routes, we can’t really see that half the time.
The entire O is out of sync and it has been 6 weeks!
So Brady flying off to a wedding should not be a big deal but then when you add in this highly public divorce he’s going through and the fact that he took off for a week and a half during training camp… None of it looks good.
It looks like he’s going through the motions and doesn’t really want to be here.

Like I said during the Pitt game, we’re a wildcard team at best. Unless we’re counting on some key injured players to come back and help run the table with our last 5 games…..and Im not holding my breath on that.

This is BL and Bowles. How do you not take advantage of the secondary pitt had and use Evans more? And the run game, everything up the middle and the opposing team knows its coming and loads the box. Stupid!

I dont know who needs to go but if we dont have at least a 2-1 record with these next 3, somebody needs to figure it out…or we wont even be a wildcard team.

Jerseybuc is spot on. I’ve been a Bucs fan since the very beginning. In the past we would have been dancing in the streets starting the season 3-3. Brady raised the bar by a lot. Now everyone is ragging on him. Coaches need to man up and fix the defense and replace Goedeke. And fire the special teams coach as well.

  12. SPARKY Says:

It looked like the walk through was the game plan. They walked through the whole game.

  13. Infomeplease Says:

BL, just sayin’…It’s time to include Mike Evans in the game plan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And no I don’t play fantasy football!!!!!

  14. Mark Reese Says:

The offensive line deserved to get chewed out for the way they were playing as did everyone else on offense not named Evans.

  15. mg Says:

    the o-line is cub-scout level

  16. Hodad Says:

I think the bigger deal is all the players who get practice off because they are trying to preserve them. Try embalming fluid. That’s how you preserve a corpse.

  17. JimbobBucfan Says:

Kraft and Jones in Dallas strike me as two of a kind from my armchair view. I may have him all wrong as I only know what the media has portrayed about Kraft over time. I did live in Dallas when Jones took over and booted Tom Landry and the whole regime that made the Cowboys “America’s Team. At the time I thought he was a crude and classless boob for a guy as smart and rich as he was. My opinion of him has not been enhanced that much over these many years.

Brady does know Kraft at a personal level so I will give Mr. Kraft the benefit of a doubt.

I agree that if the Bucs had owon as the were supposed to do I would not be makinging these remarks here today.

    Go Bucs!
