Todd Bowles Says Devin White Played His Best Game

September 13th, 2022

Everyone paying attention knows Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White wasn’t the player he could have been last year.

So today, Joe’s clearing the floor for Todd Bowles’ State of Devin White address, as delivered on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

It speaks to just how great White can be when you consider he was a Pro Bowler last season.

“It was his best game, not because of the stats, but because he ran the show from a [defensive] quarterback standpoint. He made the adjustments, he played within the scheme, he understood and made people around him better and he still made his plays within the scheme,” Bowles said of David’s play Sunday night.

That’s the Devin that we’re accustomed to seeing. And he took a big step in his leadership role and maturity standpoint in this game, and it’s just got to continue every week.”

White has the talent and many intangibles to be the face of the Bucs defense for many years to come. He just needs to put it all together and to stay consistent.

That happened in Week 1. If it happens again Sunday, the Bucs probably walk away 2-0, and hearing talk of White riding his invisible horse in the race for Defensive Player of The Year.

Great news! I was proud of his play! Hope he gets a defensive TD this Sunday against his old teammate J. Winston this Sunday.

Also, Devin must have really pissed someone off with the PFF tribe. They graded him with a 58 for his performance on Sunday. That’s a huge disparity from what the head coach just shared.

  2. Jerry R Jones Says:

Pretty sure you meant…”of Devins play Sunday night” and not Davids.

  3. Cobraboy Says:

    Good news.

He is a pleasure to watch when he’s on top of his game.

  4. August 1976 Buc Says:

A repeat of his 2020 monster playoff performance in New Orleans would be very welcome to see.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  5. rrsrq Says:

If he gets the pick six, he is likely defensive player of the week (NFC)

  6. Infomeplease Says:

DW sure had a good game!! When he stays in control and does his job he is amazing. Last year he was trying to do to much and was out of position to make plays.

This season …so far so good!!

  7. Dew Says:

He was also mic’d up for the game. Love his enthusiasm.

A Bucs Fan … ‘Devin must have really pissed someone off with the PFF tribe. They graded him with a 58 for his performance on Sunday.’

And that’s why their ‘grades’ should be looked at skeptically IMO. Too much room for subjectivity to creep in.

  9. stpetebucsfan Says:

He was within a whisker of adding an int to his already glowing stats.

He, Winfield, LVD, Davis, and others are making PLAYS.

    Should’ve had that pick-6

I thought Devin and Lavonte both had very good ball games. Our defensive secondary also played extremely well. I think our defensive line and outside linebackers could have played a little better but they didn’t play poorly. Again if these guys stay healthy we could have a top 5 defense this year.

  12. D-Rok Says:

3 points. Did I say 3 points? So impressed by that. That was a dominant performance by the D, and according to Coach Bowles, it mostly revolved around DW and his smarts getting the D to play according to the call.

Holding the Chiefs to only 9 in the SB? One of the best defensive performances I may have witnessed in the last few decades. Sunday night was awesome as well.

biscuits and gravy for the whole defense, delivered piping hot from waffle house…

    because they earned it

  14. George Says:

Devin is an outstanding player and fun to watch . He did a great job Sunday and I expect we will continue to see elite performance from him in the future

    My prediction:

Logan Hall will have a bigger impact this season than JTS. Just watching more clips from the Dallas game, Logan Hall, even at a different position, has better technique and skills.

You guys can ride the JTS hype train, but I have not seen a big improvement in his technique, given he trained this off-season in the pash rush academy. He’s just freelancing and raw as heck. He might be in position for a few plays, but most likely it’s just by chance that the play swings to his side. Otherwise, he just runs like his hair is on fire. There’s no technique. ZERO. So far. He’s relying on his athleticism. Maybe he’ll improve, but so far I’m underwhelmed.

Lambchop you have cataracts in one eye and blind in the other of you can’t see. JTS was affecting Dallas in the back field and covering multiple players in the flats. He blew up a reverse because he was on the qbs back before he even handed it off causing a tackle for loss. Also chasing dudes downfield when they got by others. Funny how people try to label him a bust because he’s not all world like Parsons. He sat out a while season in college so don’t you think that affected his professional development?

  17. Eckwood Says:

I thought Hall looked good enough to put JTS on the bench 2/3 of the game . Yes at DE .

  18. Daryl Green Says:

What’s FN beautiful is when they rotate
everyone except the two inside backers.
    17 week depth 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

  19. BucU Says:

Show up in N.O. with chips on your shoulders.
This streak ends on Sunday. We’re better. Now I wanna see them angrier and more ferocious than the Aints. BURY THEM.

  20. orlbucfan Says:

What’s with the JTS dissing? Somebodies need to review Defensive Football crib notes. JTS practically lived in the Dallas backfield. That’s his JOB! I am not surprised about White. LVD was healthy, jacked up and playing like it. That rubs off on White. I was real happy with the defensive play especially the secondary. When BA stepped aside for Bowles, this is what I was hoping for: Bowles finishing building a great defense. That’s a Bucs tradition. Now, they need to take it to the dirty Aints Sunday. Long overdue.

  21. Goatfarmer Says:

Must play a clean game to beat the Aints. It’s a big reason for the win at Dallas. No PI, no defensive holding, no personal fouls or roughing the passers. Couple false starts and a BS offside call on Shaq. Which he gets called for every time. Somehow if he could delay a few hundredths of a second, maybe he doesn’t get called.

  22. SlyPirate Says:

White was the player of the game.

4Net, Shaq, Winfield, and Julio get game balls.

Hall and Perriman need to level up.
