High Standards For Todd Bowles

September 18th, 2022

Chasing perfection?

Wow, Joe absolutely loved hearing this!

If you listen to Bucs coach Todd Bowles closely, you can here or there pick up some Bill Parcells-isms. Of course, Bowles was Parcells’ defensive backs coach in Dallas and worked for Parcells when “The Tuna” ran the Dolphins.

Today, Bowles had one of those Parcells moments.

Most coaches would be bouncing off the walls, hollering like Mike Ditka after his defense held the slimy Saints to 10 points while the Bucs won their second straight road game to start the season.

Oh yeah, and Bowles’ defense pulled a King Kong Bundy Five — five takeaways. FIVE!

But not Bowles. He seemed upset with the lone touchdown scored on his defense this season, which came late in the game.

“We shouldn’t have gave up that,” Bowles said dripping with frustration. “We had 3 3/4-quarters worth of good work and then we lapsed at the end.

“We have to learn how to finish to ballgames.”

LOL! Finish out games? Joe is pretty sure damn near every defensive coach in America is now pointing at the Bucs in a film session with their players, explaining this is how you finish out games.

Two games. Two road games. Thirteen points!

And Bowles is ticked.

Well, remember what Vince Lombardi said, if you chase perfection, you will never catch it. But along the way, you will reach excellence.

Todd the Godd made a statement last week. Made a bigger one today and beat the team that Bruce struggled with. Im suddenly not worryed about the Rams.

  2. Lamarcus Says:

Heck yea. The defense looks like the Olden days!!

  3. Tackleblockwin Says:

I agree coach. Gotta get a faster start on offense, though.

  4. Mr. Editor Says:

Yes, these are champions with a championship mindset. They want to score on every drive, and stop the other team from scoring on every one of their drives. They have more work to do. The defense is closer to being what Derrick Brooks called “football shape”.

  5. Dew Says:

San Fran just saved their season with Trey Lance injured.

  6. Zwak Says:

Best Bucs game I’ve ever watched! This was very entertaining..

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

And, for Byron Leftwich “Trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity”

  8. stpetebucfan Says:

So the Jets have sucked for over a decade during which time they had ONLY one winning season. Oh and who coached that horrible franchise to a winning season? Todd Bowles of course.

Now TB gets the chance to coach a great group of athletes and he’s obviously making the most of it!

BA gets some credit here as well for being truly loyal to Bowles and stepping aside once he knew Brady was back and would bring more talent giving Bowles a very talented team to HC.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Devin White is on pace for 162 tackles and 26 sacks.

  10. NCBucfan Says:

    TBBF,

I was saying the exact same thing during the game. Where were the sweeps, tosses, screen game?? No, just keep running it right up the damn A gap!

  11. adam from ny Says:

but can we hold green bay to like 10 or 17 points in week 3 ?

the d is looking stout from the line to the back end…

    lookin’ good…looks like we’re on target for a 3-1 start..or better

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m quite sure the defense feels the same way about giving up that TD…….

But……what can you do….it was against “America’s Quarterback”

So….in consecutive weeks we beat “America’s Team & America’s Quarterback”

Not the team CARLTON DAVIS STARTED GIVING UP THE BOOTY

  14. alton d green Says:

Vince Lombardi said “winning isn’t the most important thing, it’s the ONLY thing”

  15. Destinjohnny Says:

    Always stuff to clean up.
I always look for effort and it was clearly there on both sides today.
The new wideout is smooth as hell.
Carlton didn’t get a paycheck and mail it in.
He played with full effort as did Dean.
Speaking of mailing it in after getting $
Is it me or is vea underachieving ?

  16. Coburn Says:

Yeah I was kinda pissed they didn’t maintain the 3pts like they did against Dallas. I thought well I guess it’s garbage time..but then I thought well itsmt that the one type of play they shouldn’t give up? Where is the safety? And then Olave again. He has a point. Locked em down all game and those are the two plays you really shouldn’t be giving up

  17. orlbucfan Says:

As tired as the Defense was at the end, 20-10 was fine by them.

  18. Darin Says:

Great job Bowles! Don’t need anything more if you out score em when the clock runs out!

  19. SKBucsFan Says:

I feel the same way coach. Embarass every team when you get the opportunity. Play hard for the whole 60 minutes.

  20. Georger Says:

Can’t wait to the offense comes around. If the D plays like this and the offense gets healthy and plays like they are able, no one will have a chance.

  21. sasquatch Says:

He’s right. The Saints aren’t as good as a lot of teams we’re going to face, and slacking at the end of games will get you beat.

Also, if the offense continues to be sluggish, every point matters.

  22. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    CHASE perfection.

GOD it felt so FRIKKING good to finally beat this damn team.
    Rejoice BUCS fans.
    CHEERS.
    Damn, that one felt good.
    GO BUCS.

  23. Bucco Bruce Says:

So happy to see what this defense is capable of. Hope it lasts all year. Definitely makes you a bit giddy and able to reminisce times of old. As much as I love offense especially now that we have one. This has always been a defense town first and they played fantastic and got a couple lucky breaks because of it.

  24. stpetebucfan Says:

So with Falcons foldo and the Panthers loss the Bucs already have a two game lead on those teams just two weeks into the season and a game on the stinking Saints with home field advantage coming up in the next matchup.

It seems the only thing that can stop the Bucs are the increasing number of injuries.

  25. David Says:

    Love it.
    The defense is playing fantastic.
Pressure on Jameis, and he presses and makes bad decisions… Still.

There was definitely no reason to give up that touchdown though.

Carlton Davis played a fantastic game when he gave up that long pass interference- he was looking back for the ball and ran up the wr.

  26. LakelandSteve Says:

Defense played pretty well. We need to get some guys healthy on offense. We are not going to be able to hold teams to 3 and 10 Points every time out.

  27. TAMPA BAY DEMON™ Says:

    David Says:
    “Love it.
    The defense is playing fantastic.”
    _______________

    No doubt, David.
13 points in 2 games. That is 2002-team worthy DEFENSE.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    TBBF…lol tough crowd…nobody laughed but I did.

  29. Bucschamp Says:

Did Cameron Jordan play? Didn’t notice him

  30. Woodenman Says:

    Maybe we will Lakeland.

Now that you mention it…. did HE????
I don’t remember seeing him AT ALL.
For someone who runs their mouth as much as he does.
    Where was he?

  32. Mark A Swygert Says:

I remember he did have one TFL. I don’t recall another significant play. but they did contain our running game for most of the game. We shouldn’t get cocky.

  33. Lennon Duncan Says:

    Good stuff

  34. garro Says:

Never liked Sapp. Currently have very little respect for the man.
But he was a fierce competitor. He would have laid some folks out for giving up that last TD. LOL
