Miscommunication Leads To Fatal Delay Of Game

September 25th, 2022

Explains lethal delay penalty.

Joe may never know what exactly happened when the Bucs were flagged for a delay of game penalty at the end of the game when the Bucs were trying to send a defensive throwback game against Green Bay into overtime.

Tom Brady certainly wasn’t sharing after the game.

With 18 seconds remaining, Brady hit Russell Gage for a one-yard touchdown to pull the punchless Bucs to within two at 14-12. The Bucs had to go for two to tie the game and send it into overtime, barring a catastrophe on the ensuing kickoff.

On the two-point conversion attempt, Playoff Lenny appeared headed to the end zone. He only had to break one tackle and he was in.

Flag. No play. Delay of Game, Tampa Bay.

After the Bucs were backed up five yards, a pass intended for Gage was broken up. Game over.

The loss was the first of the year for the Bucs.and it could cost the Bucs homefield advantage.

So what happened? Well, Joe didn’t expect Brady to out anyone else. And Joe didn’t expect center Robert Hainsey to out the greatest quarterback of all time.

Hainsey told Joe after the game not everyone on offense was on the same page.

“It was snap count communication,” Hainsey said. “Clock was running down. Just got to get the snap off, that’s all.”

On not being able to get that final conversion, Hainsey said, “That’s football. We fight till the last play.”

Joe spoke with Playoff Lenny and he was convinced he would have scored on that play had the whistle not blown.

“It was good,” Playoff Lenny said. “We shot ourselves in the foot the entire game.”

The backups took forever to line up correctly. It was the same issue on the Gage TD. That play didn’t cost us the game. The ineptitude the entire game was the issue.

  2. LVMYBUCS Says:

Joe offense hasn’t been able to score for the last three games. The D has carried us we will not make it very far this season if the offense doesn’t get better. I blame these problems on the Bowles crappy play book.

  3. JimmyJack Says:

The OL will get better and we will see less and less of theses bad pentalties. This has been a problem early in the season but is not a big concern for me. Our best football is yet to come.

  4. LVMYBUCS Says:

He is not head coach material if he was he would have never got fired.

  5. lambchop Says:

The Bucs also had a delay of game on the TD to Gage. So, none of this matters. We deserved to lose. End of story.

  6. Goatfarmer Says:

    Byron runs the offense.

    BYRON???

  7. Ash Says:

Yup went starters are back it will look completely different to BUCS!!

  8. BucsfanFred Says:

Lenny said it quite well: the BUCS shot themselves in the foot all game

  9. LVMYBUCS Says:

Lenny is not a shiftey back we need a backup for him, trade some of this dead weight. Im so pissed that we struggle to score in each game WTF is going on?

  10. BucsfanFred Says:

They made Al Bundy look competent.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

“Just weren’t on the same page”…….seems to be the cliche of the Bucs……

It’s a way of really not answering a question.

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

    Morons are as morons do.

  13. Francisco Guzman Says:

This laziness and flatness to start games has to stop. Injuries or no injuries this offense has to stop being this pathetic. Anyway i hope the bucs know these games count in the long run. Now the packers have any tiebreakers on them head to head. The packers are not even elite this year in the nfc. Bucs better get it in gear next week at home!! Another home game.

  14. Adrnagy Says:

    It was a good L.
Brady got to elevate chemistry with gage , millet and perriman which will get along the way.
Goedeke is getting run over every play.

Licht needs to trade for a pass rusher.

  15. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

Man these comments… lmao you guys are trippin. the whole offense is injured, we will be fine. Does the offense suck right now? Yeah, relax it’s just one game, they will get better.

  16. Roc Says:

Bucs were not in the Whole game , not sure where their heads where at..
Even with several out today the Bucs Play looked horrible and in prepared to play

  17. BucsfanFred Says:

Tom Bundy…are you really all in?

  18. gotbbucs Says:

It was definitely a delay of game, but I’ll say this, Green Bay had at least a half dozen plays with the clock on zero.
Is it a coincidence that the only time this offense has any rhythm and efficiency is when Brady is calling it from the line of scrimmage?

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It was probably on Brady…..if it was Hainsey, he would have owned up to it…..

  20. tampabayallday Says:

Blame can also go on the crowd for not stfu when it mattered at the end there.

  21. WillieG Says:

“The loss was the first of the year for the Bucs.and it could cost the Bucs homefield advantage.“ —The way the offense looks, I won’t be surprised if they don’t make the playoffs.

Hopefully, they get better fast, make the playoffs, and beat the Packers in the NFC Championship game again.

  22. Beeej Says:

Nearly HALF our starting offense can’t play and many of you idjits are blaming Bowles and Brady

  23. RGA Says:

Terribly disappointing to have a delay of game in that situation with more then adequate time prior to the touchdown to prepare for the two point conversion, knowing if we score we have to go for two. Being unprepared is a disgrace by the couching staff. a delay of game is totally unacceptable and totally on the coaching staff.

  24. Byedon Leftbi*ch Says:

Something is really, really off behind the scenes.

No joke, they need to have Arians calling the offense starting this week (insert annoying Byedon’s chuckle here)

  25. DoooshLaRue Says:

Why exactly is home field “advantage” important for us again?

  26. steele Says:

With so many injuries on offense, with green Goedeke and marginal OL, bad offense was expected, but that flat and lifeless? Inexcusable. Not Brady’s fault. BL.

Defense was supposed to carry this team and this game. All that hype about how great this defense is. Look at that first half. Weak pass rush, poor tackling, marshmallow run defense. If they couldn’t stop Green Bay, how are they going to shut down the Chiefs and Rams?

  27. AMI_Chris Says:

If the Bucs were a publicly traded company, someone would get fired over that level of incompetence.

  28. BucsfanFred Says:

The defense started off like an egregiously overworked male porn actor. It seemed no amount of fluffing could milk another performance, but it stiffened up in the end.
The offence started couldn’t quite bust that final nut
Is that what Giselle says also?

  29. Tvan101 Says:

Their first lost could cost home field is a but of a reach, there are still 14 games left to play.

  30. LVMYBUCS Says:

I agree it’s only one game but we haven’t been able to score in the last three.

  31. Redeemer Says:

The whole “we’ll be fine” crap needs to stop. This isn’t the 2021 team. That was a juggernaut, this ain’t. Will they get some guys back, sure. But for how long? Banking your season on Julio Jones and a guy coming of ACL reconstruction was always dicey at best.

@gotbbucs, stop. You know they allow a full tick before double zeros. I saw half a dozen on both sides. It isn’t a conspiracy.

  32. Dooley Says:

Oh hey, there’s that thing about player execution again, but yes “Fire Leftwich” cause that’s what the mob wants lol it’s like the “they took our jobs” episode of South Park, but in reverse “take his job”[unintelligible]

  33. steele Says:

Brady called audibles and tried to move guys around. Hainsey didn’t hear. Gee, young Hainsey, how about some humility. “Maybe it was my fault” would have been a good answer.

  34. steele Says:

Good one, BucsFan Fred. First time I laughed today.

  35. PassingThru Says:

Agree with steele. You could clearly see they weren’t all on the same page. Yes that includes Hainsy, but to be fair many of the skill players haven’t many snaps together un practice, let alone in game “on the line” situations.

  36. beano Says:

The GOAT ain’t making didly of a difference, put Trask or Gabbert in.

  37. Listnfrmafar Says:

    Let’s see:
    1. Two td’s for GB right out of the gate.

    2. The second TD to Lizzaro was identical to the one they scored on the prior week against the Bears. That spells lack of preparation.

    3. Final drive of the half Bucs had.the GB D on their heels sucking wind. Loss of at least 3 points.

    4. Driving again beginning of 3rd qtr. Fumble drive killer. Loss of at least 3 points.

    5. 1st & 20 run up the gut.

    6. Big pass play to Darden.

    7. Next series double reverse flea flicker. WHY????

    7. Holding call 1st & 20 run up the middle for zero yds.

    8. Pinned on the 1yd line & pass three times.

    9. 20-30 seconds left run up the middle, Lenny stuffed forcing to use the last TO, knowing Bucs needed a 2 pt conversion. Ya think you want time to think about it?

    10. Delay of game, offsides, holding, turnovers, too many men on the field.

    11. Trainers suck, did anyone see the head trainer fixing Brady’s brace? He looked like the same guy I saw sitting on the side of a building in Clearwater holding a cardboard sign that says Will Work for Food, when you know he has no intention of working.

    11. Biggest mistake of all DON’T play Jones! Could of sat him next week when the game doesn’t mean as much.

    12. Evan’s suspension

Bottom line the team is going back to an undicipline, unprepared squad and the coaching and play calling are horrific. BA residual.

  38. SidBucs Says:

Sounds like everyone expected this team to go 17-0.

Look it was a tough lost but seeing how the defense played and knowing we will be getting back Evans, Jones, and possibly Smith is a good sign. I’m not stressing even if we go 2-2 next week we will get to the playoffs given that we’re in the NFC South. Now come week 15-17 if the offense struggle like this then we can get worried.

  39. Don Says:

    Professional miscommunication

  40. Brandon Jeff Says:

Just curious. That juggernaut team that won the Super Bowl, how many games did they lose that season? Seems to me it took them half of the season to get their sh!t together.
Two new players on the offensive line and missing our top two receivers. That would’ve crippled any team.

  41. DBS Says:

Most of the people crying were hoping to come out of these first 4 games 2-2 or 3-1. The defense has done their job as has most of the rest. The offense will get better. We were no shutting every team out or holding them to 3 points.

  42. DBS Says:

    ^not.

  43. TJ Says:

I’ll take a 2-1 start with that schedule. We are definitely not a top 5 team right now though and that’s fine. It’s a long season. I do think the offense is feeling a TON of heat now. All aspects. Scotty Miller is EXTEMELY disappointing. What good is speed if you do not know where the down marker is or you fall to the ground to secure a catch. If you don’t have the hands to handle a Brady fastball in stride well then maybe you take more reps from the machine. I wish we would of kept a different WR. Perrimans fumble was HUGE. A reason why though guys are bouncing around fighting for roster spots. This is their chance to hold down a roster spot and not really making a case. We Just need to get healthy on Offense. Have the OL get some experience and my bigger concern moving forward is TE. We miss Gronk immensely. Like way more than I would of thought. With a green Oline Gronks value can’t be understated with all the heat Toms taking from this inexperienced OL.

  44. Kody Says:

MAYBE it’s time for Brady to make that call to Gronk.

  45. Defense Rules Says:

LUVMYBUCS … ‘I blame these problems on the Bowles crappy play book.’

BOWLES crappy playbook? Bowles? Not BL’s crappy playbook? Not Brady’s crappy playbook? All summer just about every JBFer was warning Bowles to keep his hands off the high-flying Bucs offense. You remember, the one that was gonna score at least 30-35 PPG. THAT offense.

A funny thing happened on the way to the coliseum it appears: that high-powered offense suddenly became toothless. Face facts LUVMYBUCS, it’s not Todd Bowles offense. It’s a very broken offense that doesn’t hold up all that well without its normal starters. And especially against strong defenses (and we’ve now played 3 pretty danged good ones in a row).

Our defense gave up 2 TDs today, but against the punishing Packers run game I thought that was quite good actually. Only gave up 14 points and shut them out in the 2nd half. Even forced 2 TOs to help the offense. Can’t blame the defense & can’t blame Todd Bowles either.

Bucs’ offense had the ball for 12 drives: 6 punts, 2 fumbles, 2 FGs, 1 TD & 1 end-of-half. That won’t win us many ballgames for the rest of the season. Neither will a run game that has a 25% run-pass ratio and produces a grand total of 34 yards in 14 attempts (2.4 YPC) against a team that has had problems stopping the run. We put the game in Tom Brady’s hands from the beginning and he delivered: 31 of 42 (73.8%) for 271 passing yards. Too many players who can’t make the big play when it’s need most. But don’t blame that on Todd Bowles.

  46. Scooter Says:

In Roger’s post game interview he said the Buc’s offense at the end of the game had a delay of game on 2 consecutive plays however the first one wasn’t called by the refs. After the first missed delay call, Rogers said he notified the Packer coaches and the impression I got was the Pack coaches told the refs they blew the first delay of game call .

  47. ForReal Says:

Why watch a bad team. Winning is no fun if watching the game is no fun. This team is undisciplined and POORLY coached. Brady can only deliver if everyone DOES THEIR JOB! and no one is doing their job out their. Also, without a tight end threat this team has almost no chance of being dangerous in the playoffs, no matter how many receivers are healthy. Is CG or ME gonna chip off the edge to help this shoddy OL when they play a team with a real pass rush?

  48. ForReal Says:

BTW… Belichick would be rolling on the floor laughing (except for the Pats sucking without Brady…)

  49. C-Rock Says:

A lot of Bucs fans got loud on that play that caused a delay of game. The Bucs personnel needs to make a video for fans in the stadium to get loud when the Bucs are on Defense and to be quiet when they’re on offense.

  50. Joe Says:

The Bucs personnel needs to make a video for fans in the stadium to get loud when the Bucs are on Defense and to be quiet when they’re on offense.

    They do.

And those fans hollering were likely Packers fans.

They made Al Bundy look competent.

Whoa bro. Al Bundy once scored four touchdowns in a single game. Our BUCS are having a hard time getting one per game

  52. AbucAway Says:

Brady needs Gronk. We need Gronk

  53. JBBUCS_06 Says:

@defense rules…….ditto! Very well said. Offense is a MASH unit but we can’t blame Bowles cause the D is balling and we told Bowles not to screw up the O. He’s been hands off the O.

  54. scott Hemmingsen Says:

Wow nothing like buc’s fans! You guys do nothing but bitch! Its week 4 for christ sake. We are also without our top 3 wideouts, left tackle, center. You are all whinning about Bowles and no pass rushers yet this defense has been stout thanks to Bowles. So now lets blame bowles for the offense who hasnt touched the offense besides maybe telling leftwhich we cant win games when you run 3 times the whole game.. Bowles team actually beat the aints its more then we can say for Arians ( besides the playoff game) were bowles d sealed the deal. You guys are never happy when it was Arians you bitched about cant beat good teams being one dimensional. Youll need to take notes from Packers fans. Lambeau would be sold out for a in a -5 degree weather for a sub 500 squad. You fans couldnt sell out a lambeau size field for a bad team on a 75 degree day. Tampa is the home of the fair weather fan not all are but most.

  55. Esteban85 Says:

LVmybucs: you are a complete Fing moron. Bill bellicheat was also fired from his job in Cleveland. Is he not head coach material either?
Todd is a great head coach and the Bucs are a good team. One game does not make a team especially when we are down half the squad and basically rebuilding an offensive line! The comments from some of these jagaloons are appalling.
Defense played up to snuff. Hold the packers to 14 points? Should result in a win
