“It’s Going To Cause Issues”

September 7th, 2022

Talks Julio Jones fear.

So earlier today, Joe brought word of legendary receiver Larry Fitzgerald talking about how Julio Jones on the field for the Bucs will allow for Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to go wilding on defenses.

So Joe wanted to get a defensive perspective on this and talked about it with starting Bucs corner Jamel Dean. Joe wanted to know what a cornerback thought of Fitzgerald saying the wide receivers will be a nightmare when Julio lines up.

“It’s going to be hard to kind of game plan against that corps,” Dean said. “Because you are going to have to pick your poison.

“You double Mike? You double Julio? If you do that are you going to leave the two edge guys alone? It’s going to cause issues.”

The only way this doesn’t cause issues would be, for example, Sunday night if the Bucs don’t have an answer for Cowboys gamewrecker Micah Parsons. If Joe were Dan Quinn, Joe would devise every possible stunt and scheme known to man to find a way to get Parsons to go one-on-one against rookie guard Luke Goedeke or green-as-grass center Robert Hainsey.

Just looking at the Bucs’ offensive line objectively, Donovan Smith, Tristan Wirfs and Shaq Mason are clearly the three best. Smart coaches will try to expose a weak link, or “weakest” link to their strength.

Who is a better ballplayer on Dallas’ defense than Parsons?

Goedeke and Hainsey better buckle up Sunday night. That’s the only way to slow this passing attack; get to Tom Brady through the middle.

And the middle is exactly where Goedeke and Hainsey line up.

For the first few games, it’s reasonable to expect Brady to have a super-quick release. Until the O-Line gels and proves itself, we could also see more a shorter passing attack. Don’t forget about the run game, and don’t forget about those extended runs on the perimeter: the screen game.

I don’t think the Boys can handle this O. Bucs win.

  2. miracle Says:

With all of the talk of the receiving corps, Leonard Fournette may be the real key to the game.

If Tom Brady can start the game and successfully dump off to Fournette enough to keep Parsons focused on him then that will provide the right opportunity for everything else to get done.

He may or may not have a big statistical night, but could be a major factor in it.

  3. ocala Says:

I am not worried about the OL as long as the starters remain healthy.

  4. D-Rok Says:

    @miracle,

And then, just when the Boys key in on Lenny and sorta shut him down, we have other RB’s like White or Gio to use as a passing outlet. They won’t be able to shut us down. In a way, it’s kinda easy of a game cuz the Bucs will focus on, and mostly neutralize Parsons. Then, it’s pick your poison – ME, JJ, Gage….can’t focus on Lenny and also shut down our WR corps.

At worst, it’ll be a close game, but I think our team has too much talent. Bucs win.

  5. Infomeplease Says:

I can’t wait!!! Hopefully the game plan has been adjusted to compensate for this!! LFG!!

  6. CrackWise Says:

Would it not be great to see the Bucs allow Micah Parsons to run free at Brady and have Brady drill him in the nuts with that ball.

PLEASE TOM, do it………. ONE TIME!!!

This is me Basking in the Glory of the Good Old Days that we are currently living in…. Where Fantasy is reality!!!

  7. fern Says:

    Go six linemen too

  8. CrackWise Says:

I am not gonna re-post the comparison between this O line and the 2020 O line.

However, I will say, this O Line does not look as bad on paper.

Time will tell. Heinse sight will be Crystle clear

  9. CrackWise Says:

Oh yeah, and we have the perfect cure for a blitz happy D. It comes in the form of the new Mike Tyson Rick Flair strain.

    It’s called, “#41”

  10. David Says:

Playoff Lenny should be helping those two with a chip block before releasing through the midfle or looking for Micah on an edge. I also would not be surprised to see a TE almost playing a full back roll to help block up the middle if they deem necessary.
Regardless, I am more excited to see the Bucs D line tear apart the Cowboys O line!!
    L. F. G. !!! 🏴‍☠️

  11. CrackWise Says:

I didnt spell that right, “Hainsey sight”.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

Three wide, 2 backs (Ko Kieft at FB) could take a dent out of Parsons.

  13. Goatfarmer Says:

I agree with miracle. Lenny is the key. First as long as he’s on the correct side of Brady he is stone cold at blitz pickup. Second, he has a great feel for where to go in his release for his check downs and hots. And finally, dude has developed some very good hands. Oh, and he can run. Let’s see that beautiful option run where we pull everybody (ok not everybody) and he can do dive, off tackle or sweep. It’s gone for touchdowns a number of times from the 25 plus/minus.

    Thick lives matter, Lenny!

  14. Duane Says:

They arent going to put a full back in unless its short yardage or goal line. Brady will need a series or two before he figures out how to attack Parsons’ aggressive play. Likely to see many dump off and quick passes right into the window Parsons vacates to stunt or twist up the middle. Quinn is likely to get cute and have Parsons play pass defense, and we will take that opportunity with open arms. Still not sure the Cowboys can put more than 20 on the scoreboard.

  15. Crickett Baker Says:

I had to laugh at Micah’s recent comments about Tom. He complimented him. LOL He knows better than to give him fuel by saying he’s gonna beat him. Why aren’t they called Cowmen?

  16. teacherman777 Says:

    Run right.

    Run right.

    Run right all night.

Mason plus Wirfs plus a TE equals a solid running attack.

Run screens and let Leonard punish smaller CBs.

  17. Hodad Says:

So when Parsons lines up over Goedeke, Brady changes to a run, and Goedeke, and Hainsey get to tag team his arse. Not worried.

  18. RuKa44 Says:

Slimmed-down Lenny will spend the whole night either running right or blocking center-left

  19. Buc4evr Says:

Just wondering if the Bucs could move the pocket with Brady? Maybe some limited roll outs so all the pressure can’t always come up the middle? I don’t think Brady is going to be able to stand in the middle as Dallas is bringing a bull rush on every play.

  20. T REX Says:

    Julio looked awful last year.

Too many ppl expecting Julio from 4-5 years ago

  21. Defense Rules Says:

Looking at what Micah Parsons accomplished last year as a rookie, you can’t help but be impressed. He’s kind of a bigger Devin White it looks like (6’3″ & 245 lbs vs 6’0″ & 237 lbs). And he’s actually a tad faster than Devin (4.39 vs 4.42 in the 40 at the Combine). Dan Quinn has obviously found ways to maximize Micah’s talents (13 sacks, 30 QB Hits, 20 TFLs with a total of 47 QB Pressures in 16 games & 904 def snaps). THAT’S impressive.

Interestingly, he didn’t blitz quite as often as White did (7 blitzes/game average vs 8 for Devin). Does seem to be much better in pass coverage than White is (Micah allowed 61% completions vs 82% for Devin). Looks to be the real deal, based on 1 NFL season (and oh ya, his selection as All-Pro & Pro Bowl).

Still, he’s only 1 player and the Bucs’ offense has the talent to neutralize him. Hainsey & Goedeke may be new starters, but I’m sure they’ll get plenty of help keeping TB12 upright.

  22. TampabayDJ82 Says:

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all the REAL Bucs fans that commented before me ( Besides T REX being a Debbie downer and not realizing that JJ was in a rush 80% of the time offense and a not so good QB ) but other than that EVERYONE has great vibes , no ignorant fake bandwagon fans , and guess what ? BUCS ARE BACK !! It’s a season that we should ALL enjoy and be thankful for Brady coming back to make this GREAT time to be a Bucs fan continue ! Thank you @Joe for your top notch awesomeness with the great articles that I look forward to reading every day ! Are you ready for some football !!! Go Bucs !!! Bucs win 38-24

  23. Joe Says:

    DJ82:

Thank you for your support and kind words!

  24. T REX Says:

    Realistic=downer

    We are going undefeated baby!!!!

  25. Buc king Says:

Cobra boy might have some logic

  26. firethecannons Says:

put ko kieft in to assist / block Parsons ko kieft is a tight end blocker baby!

  27. George Says:

The weakness in our line will be exploited . Having a Fullback is going to be mandatory .

  28. Lakeland Steve Says:

Everyone wants to talk about how great our receivers are and, they are. But they won’t be able to catch a ball if Brady is on his behind the whole game. You have to be able to pass protect to throw the ball effectively.

  29. BucTilDeath Says:

I know how bad everyone wants us to just come out and light up the scoreboard with bombs over Baghdad, but.. the way we really win this game is by taking it to them in the run game.

Pound the rock repeatedly, try to wear the defense down a bit and give our O Line some confidence.. Even if it doesn’t work on the first few series, keep pounding the ball with fresh legs and screens. Then later in the game we can go for the jugular. Cut their throats right over the Star in Big D!
