If Bucs Have Chiefs Game Moved, Possible Host Is Vikings

September 26th, 2022

Possible site of Chiefs-Bucs game learned.

Well, it doesn’t appear as if the Bucs will play on real grass Sunday night if the Chiefs-Bucs game cannot be held at The Licht House.

Per BSPN NFL insider Jeff Darlington, despite the Bucs practicing in Miami this week and the Dolphins playing a Thursday night game in Cincinnati, the Chiefs-Bucs game will not be held at Joe Robbie Stadium if it has to be moved.

Instead, this Bucs “home game” is likely to be played in the Midwest. Darlington suggested Minneapolis.

While the Vikings’ stadium is totally first class and may be the best in the NFL, it is a dome, which means it has turf.

Of course, a decision on whether Sunday night’s game can be held in Tampa won’t be known for days. Hurricane Beckles is bearing down on the Tampa Bay area and local officials are bracing for the storm to batter the region. Most local counties already have issued evacuation orders.

The issue of moving the game has nothing to do with the weather but the aftermath of the storm. Tampa weather for Sunday night is expected to be fine. But will the Bucs have the necessary support staff available? It’s not a stretch to imagine thousands of locals being displaced by the storm.

That’s not even factoring in cops needed to work the game.

If the area is hammered by the storm, the cops who would normally work the game will likely be on duty elsewhere. And who knows if there will be power or a working hotel for TV crews and the visiting Chiefs? Hard to host a game, much less a night game, without power.

With Hurricane Beckles still expected to affect the area into Thursday afternoon, Joe is guessing we won’t know until Friday from local officials if the Bucs can host a game Sunday night. That’s cutting it awfully close.

As a result, it wouldn’t shock one bit Joe if the NFL goes ahead and pulls the trigger before Thursday on moving the game to Minnesota. That way the Chiefs and Bucs and Vikings and NBC can make the necessary arrangements.

Bucs should petition to have it held in New England. The NFL should want it in New England. Pats are at the Packers on Sunday.

  2. Marc Coppola Says:

If it’s going to be moved that far north, New England makes a hell of a lot more sense. It IS supposed to be a home game after all.

  3. #8 Says:

Sending good hurricane vibes from Houston.
Get some bromosas. Find a friend with a generator. Enjoy.
Game should be in Suh England.

  4. Goatfarmer Says:

Why? Why Minnesota? There are a plethora of grass fields in the area. Anything the league can do to shaft the Bucs. I hate this. Hate it.

Safety for everyone but eff you to the league. Minnesota will be a home game for the Chiefs.

NFL wants NFL games in NFL stadiums. So, provided a game could be held here, having it at, say, Clearwater High School or the University of Tampa simply isn’t feasible.

  6. Goatfarmer Says:

Joe, yeah I know. I’m being more rhetorical — but we already gave up a home game for Germany, now the hurricane causes another. Glazers need to scrap the international crap for the good of the team long term, but as Gordon Gekko said, greed is good – greed is right – greed cuts through and clarifies.

I still hate it. Hate it.

  7. unbelievable Says:

The NFL will never run out of ways to screw over the Bucs.

    Never.

  8. BucNMuss Says:

    What about Miami?

  9. Goatfarmer Says:

Incidentally, watching MNF. Sure glad we didn’t sign Jason Peters.

He’s balling out better than any of our guys so far. Nice job, Jason. Way to stand pat with bartenders and pipe fitters.

  10. Goatfarmer Says:

And the Giants just got away with a blatant DPI call against the Cows. Good. Screw the Cows. Glad we didn’t play them with Jason Peters and Cooper Rush.

  11. Joe Says:

    What about Miami?

    Apparently not available.

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

It’s a conspiracy. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it.

  13. Marc Coppola Says:

Is Jason Licht upset about this? NFL is basically giving Kansas City a home game. TAMPA is the city going through a hardship right now. Concessions must be made! NFL needs to have this game in NE if not in Tampa and Jason Licht should be banging on the table for it.

  14. The Fighting Schiano’s Says:

Hurricane Beckles huh Joe? I love how no one caught .

  15. D-Rok Says:

Can you imagine how conflicted NE fans would be to have the Bucs play a home game in their stadium? Maybe they’d welcome Brady back with open arms since the Pats aren’t playing – who knows?

  16. D-Rok Says:

Beckles, LOL. I hope and pray that was a joke. Oh wait…Ian Beckles, right?

  17. Joe Says:

What’s the fascination with having the game in New England???

Pretty confident Bucs are upset at the likelihood of losing a home game. What can be done about it? Nobody wants a hurricane to level a community.

  18. VATom Says:

Game in NE might work to Bucs advantage with a friendly crowd rooting against the Chiefs and FOR Brady. I am assuming that’s what folks are thinking?

  19. D-Rok Says:

That’s what I was thinking, VATom.

OF course I want everyone in the Tampa community to be safe. Public safety is obvously #1. But, as you said early this morning, this is a space for Bucs talk so we will talk about this issues surround the team. As for the “fascination with havung the game in New England”: I want the Bucs to have the closest thing to a home field advantage because that increases the likelihood they win the game. isnt that what we are all fascinated about? The Bucs winning games? Miami would be my 1st choice in, but that is apparently out of the question because the NFL doesn’t want to strain Florida’s hurricane response resources (which could potentially save many lives) for football game. We all get that.

People can keep calling Minnesota a “neutral site” all they want but we all know it is going to turn into Arrowhead North for this game. I would be beside myself if I were Licht and this was the proposal hanfed down by the league office. We have a shot at going 3-1 and establishing ourselves as real contenders for the 1 serf and the NFL essentially hands KC a home game. If that doesn’t make your blood boil…..

  23. Clearwater Wes Says:

That sucks since most will be without power and wont be able to see the game. T

  24. Goatfarmer Says:

Maybe Cuba will chip block it and send it west.

  25. Dewey Selmon Says:

Joe Robbie Stadium? lol stuck in the 90’s?

  26. Rod Munch Says:

What idiots. Just wait until tomorrow and see what happens – literally no reason to rush to move it early.

BTW, the latest runs of Eurotrash and other more minor models are starting to do a Charlie like turn to the south. Literally all they had to do was wait another 12-hours and see if the models are confirming everything or moving – right now, they’re moving south.

  27. Goatfarmer Says:

Gronk’s USAA commercials are starting to really suck.

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What’s wrong with Washington, Jacksonville or Tenn……all available…..Vikings may as well be a home game for KC…….

    Tenn would be best…

  29. Brad Says:

sucks for the Bucs and fans, but would be fascinating to see if Brady vs Mahhomes could sell out a random stadium on a few days notice.

  30. FLBoyInDallas Says:

There was a post on PFT at 6:27pm this evening that Hard Rock Stadium, the Dolphins home stadium, is not only available but was offered to the Bucs by the Dolphins. So it does seem the stadium is available. Forcing the Bucs to Minnesota in that case would be complete and utter bullsh-t.

  31. Goatfarmer Says:

Make Ian go south and miss everything. Put Boron on it.

  32. Goatfarmer Says:

Minnesota. Surprised they didn’t suggest Kansas City. Fargin Alouettes Stadium in Montreal would be better.

  33. ForReal Says:

Joe seems to be OK with a knee shredding turf/KC home north excursion… maybe we should be too… FFS… it is possibly the WORST choice of what I am sure are several available options.

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We are 2-0 on turf this year

  35. DoooshLaRue Says:

Darn…… there goes that home field advantage…..

  36. Captain Dan Lawrence Says:

KC should have to come to the east coast not stay in the Midwest! Total BS, but I expect nothing more from the NFL.

  37. adam from ny Says:

    who are we, the replacements?

where is keanu reeves and gene hackman when you need them!

  38. JimbobBucfan Says:

So be it! Remember Covid-19? We did just fine that year if I recall. Oh yeah, we won the Lombardi in the post season.

C’mon kids! Blame Mother Nature along with the NFL at least.

  39. Rod Munch Says:

For what it’s worth, the overnight models all have trended south, having it hit just south of Sarasota, then, over land, slowly moving north. We’d get a lot of weather, but it wouldn’t be taking a direct hit. We’ll see if the models nudge it north again during the day on Tuesday, but if you read the notes from the NHC, they are flat out saying they don’t know where it’s going to hit exactly as there is an unusual about of spread in the models.

BUT BOY, did this thing blow up overnight… Right before hitting Cuba, it exploded into a strong CAT3. Will be a CAT4 on Tuesday for sure, could, perhaps, hit CAT5 for a while – although any type of eyewall replacement would keep that from happening.

  40. Bojim Says:

My wife in St Pete house/cat sitting. She’s leaving first light Tuesday going to my mom in Orlando. I hear the traffic was already bad yesterday. A 90 minute trip will probably take all day. Y’all be safe and think about getting out a few miles at least. Even if the storm doesn’t hit Tampa, the surge is going to be real bad. 🤞

  41. Anonymous Says:

Nashville. I could actually make the trip from Muscle Shoals for that one.

You all be safe over there!

  44. Bucs since 76 Says:

I am all in for Nashville gives some Bucs fan a chance to go nobody going to Minnesota

  45. Mort Says:

You gross Massholes on here begging to be graced by Brady’s presence are pathetic. The game still might be in Tampa. Everyone chill out and just prepare for the storm. And you Massholes can still F off.

  46. STL-BucsFan Says:

I have family in Venice, hopefully everyone is safe! Sending positive thoughts from St. Louis.

  47. Joe Says:

    Thanks STL.

The storm seems to be creeping south of what was originally forecast and east. Looking like a direct hit into Tampa Bay which will result in massive, widespread flooding. That’s not good news for your family as on the eastern side of this slow-moving storm is what gets the full brunt.

Wednesday and Thursday are going to be very ugly for this area.

It’s hard to believe at this point the Chiefs game will not be moved.

  48. Roger Goddell Says:

Didn’t you have home field during the Super Bowl. Wake up!

  49. Hodad Says:

Move the game to Germany since the NFL thinks that is also a home game for the Bucs!

  50. Goatfarmer Says:

If the eye hits south of the bay then the winds will blow water out. But if it hits slightly north, from what I remember reading in the old St Pete Times, then it blows the water in and our house would have been totally underwater with a cat 4 cane.

This is serious. Find your ways out now, people.

  51. Joe Says:

Joe seems to be OK with a knee shredding turf/KC home north excursion

Where exactly did Joe type that? Joe even pointed out playing on turf isn’t ideal.

FYI, this storm keeps creeping south. So there may be a shot the Bucs can still host the game.

  52. Chiefs in OK Says:

We’re Chiefs fans headed to the game from Oklahoma on Saturday. FWIW, we’d much rather go to Boston Nashville than Minneapolis. I don’t see how Minneapolis is “neutral” anyway. Hopefully the storm changes path and steers clear of TB though. Stay safe everyone!!!

  53. PewterStiffArm Says:

The last time I checked the Midwest(Minnesota) is a hell of a lot closer to KC than Tampa. What I am saying is that this will not be a home game for the Buc’s, it will likely be a home game for Kansas City. Am I missing something here? So Joe Robbie stadium is off limits? The Dolphins are playing Thursday night, the storm will pass through the Gulf soon with no major damage to Miami. Not to mention Minneapolis is artificial turf. A third game on turf for the Buc’s. this stinks. The stars are aligned for Miami to be a home game for us not KC. At least Tampa fans can drive south to Dade county.

  54. Pryda...Sec147 Says:

FFS I was really really looking forward to watching the Bucs whip Mahomes in Person !!!! F$&%!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. RustyRhinos Says:

Bring the game to the home of the USFL, Birmingham AL. I might be able to make the game and get a good seat.
