WalterFootball: Bucs Are Overrated

August 12th, 2022

Unknown typist not high on Bucs.

The crowd at WalterFootball.com is not buying the hype. There are others.

Over at WalterFootball.com, an unnamed author has listed the most overrated and underrated teams in the NFL for 2022. And for this shadowy stenographer, the Bucs have just taken too many hits to their personnel to be a legit Super Bowl contender.

The losses of foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski, furniture-tossing, V-card-forging, bicycle-throwing quitter Antonio Brown, Jordan Whitehead, Ali Marpet and now with Ryan Jensen out for “months,” those losses from 29-win team over the past two seasons is too much to overcome.

The Buccaneers have been great in the two years with Tom Brady, but their stellar offensive line took two hits with both guards leaving this offseason (one was replaced) and then center Ryan Jensen suffering an injury. Furthermore, Brady no longer has Rob Gronkowski or Antonio Brown at his disposal, while Chris Godwin likely won’t be 100 percent coming off a torn ACL. Add in the fact that the Buccaneers also lost a talented defensive back in Jordan Whitehead, and it appears as though this team is likely to let down those who bet on them this year.

Well, the way Julio Jones is heating up and when the Bucs get their receivers back, Joe thinks this team could be more explosive than last year’s, if you can imagine that.

Without Gronk but with a sick amount of receivers, why not run four-receiver sets more often? Good luck trying to cover Chris Godwin, Russell Gage, Mike Evans and Julio.

So yeah, if the Bucs adjust to their personnel, they could become more lethal. The question is, would defensive-minded Todd Bowles give offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich the go-ahead to unleash the hounds?

Other teams WalterFootball thinks are overrated are Chicago, Dallas and Tennessee.

Bears overrated? Who the hell thinks they will be anywhere near a winning record? Come on!

There’s a certain irony here. Some in the media ‘rank’ the teams to predict how good (or bad) they’ll be each year. And now others in the media are predicting that THOSE rankings are too high.

Newsflash: Most fans couldn’t care less about pre-season rankings. That’s why they play the game.

  2. SufferingSince76 Says:

    More bulletin board material.

  3. DG060 Says:

    Meaningless chatter.

  4. Bird Says:

    Gage is new AB

Big julio is new big gronk

Keanu and Logan the new safety duo so no worries with whitehead

So here is the difference. The oline will struggle mightily this year at the beginning waiting on a hopeful return from jensen. Opposing teams wont even hide what they are doing. Cam jordan and company will line up in the middle and go straight for brady wherein qbs dont like pressure. Glad we have 4 strong studs at receiver. Cause brady will need that same 2 seconds to not get killed.

  5. Beeej Says:

Don’t think we can be a running team, bit everything outside of that looks good. Defense is even better

  6. VSyl Says:

These guys certainly go far to justify their dumb wishes. The defense will be bad because we lost Whitehead, forgetting we added several others with much more impact. LOL

  7. PassingThru Says:

I lost respect for WalterFootball years ago. It’s put together by a couple of amateurs who feign certainty and professional expertise.

  8. geno711 Says:

Austin Mock of the Athletic also did his so-called statistical model that suggested that the Bucs were overrated as well.

However, he was comparing his model to bets that idiots could make at BetMGM. Obviously, the odds for winning the Super Bowl or NFC by BetMGM are actually less than the Big Gambling sites actually give people.

  9. Carl Johnson Says:

    No nothing analysts.

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

Those guys hate Jason Licht and are generally negative haters when it comes to the draft and they don’t own when they’re super wrong on a take so I haven’t read any of their stuff in years.

  11. Elita Vita Says:

Imagine if Gronk comes back this season (probably not happening) what a mind blowing offense we would have then!

  12. BucBrady Says:

This has been a weird offseason for the Bucs–any realistic fan has to see that the team did not improve. The loss of Jenkins and Marpet is HUGE. The loss of Gronk is going to cause problems. They seem to be getting hit with injury challenges already, and this weird vacation of Brady’s does not appear to bode well. It is certainly a far cry from the hinger that drove them to meet in city parks with the team to get reps. The QB has a new starting center and new WRs to get used to, and he’s taking 10 days off?

I just don’t see the above as a recipe for a Super Bowl—the playoffs, maybe.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Walterfootball was nothing but negative……Lost a defensive back….but gained Ryan & Neal…….Lost AB….but gained Julio & Gage…….

I think the most important improvement is the extra year’s experience with our young defense……JTS, Nelson, SMB, Davis, Dean, White, Winfield, Edwards…..

  14. gotbbucs Says:

I read WalterFootball.com and enjoy their content, but Walt is rarely right when it comes to his predictions for our Bucs.
He says this yet in his mock drafts he has the Bucs either in the Super Bowl or NFC championship. So if overrated means we lose in the NFC championship I can probably live with that.
He site used to be all about the mock drafts and college prospect rankings, recently he’s gotten way more into Vegas betting lines and handicapping games. So when he’s talking about overrated and underrated teams, he’s likely talking from a sports gambling point of view.

  15. Joe in Michigan Says:

I enjoy some of that website, but Walter is a known Bucs hater. If I remember correctly, he’s an Eagles fan, and the Bucs may have provided him with some bad memories in his childhood. Preseason rankings mean nothing.

  16. uncommon Says:

    WalterFootball is overrated.

  17. doolnutts Says:

Everything they said is correct. All of the new players need to earn respect we can’t just assume they will step right in and do well. I am really excited about Edwards.. He might not be as aggressive or hard-hitting ad Whitehead but in the limited time he got, he was a true playmaker. He might get a ton of turnovers which would be more important than a hard-hitting safety IMO. We will soon find out about the newcomers along the line but Jason Licht has been AMAZING at drafting OL

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

Gage is the new AB??? Comical, NO he is NOT and will never be. The only reason AB isn’t on this team is because of a old, washed up, put out to pasture by Brady, unfiltered BA that couldn’t handle the chip he had on his shoulder toward AB. Brady has won without Gronk with just Marcellus Bennett, Edleman, Amendola, Malcolm Mitchell & Hogan. Not exactly the all-star cast. (Nothing against Edleman and Amandola, two way underrated wr’s. Protection is key.

  19. Smashsquatch Says:

    Bulletin board material, post it!

  20. Duane Says:

Its just a take, likely for views. Its fair to assess the turnover on the offensive line, but any reasonable person will say a Buc receiver will get open before a rusher gets to TB. This team had an offseason to address most of their needs, and I think they did well. There is not an award for being the guy that calls the Brady washout because many have tried and failed for over a decade.

  21. SOEbuc Says:

Blah, blah, blah. All these articles will never tell you (because they’re clueless) about the Bucs big or small positive facts. It’s all just to bring more attention to Brady. Like Julio and Akeem Hicks. JTS and Hall getting praise. It’s going to be sad when we have to cut one of our WR. Russell Gage looking like Chris Godwin. It’s all about Brady media.

WF had Bucs power ranking number four and LAR at seven with a QB with a broken arm.

The ONLY REASON? Did you watch the Bucs/Jets game? Are you out of your MF mind? Hard to have any credibility with posts like this.

  23. Listnfrmafar Says:

Joe in Michigan @ yes I did, a bomb doesn’t explode if it’s never ignited. Any other coach handles the situation differently rather than air the dirty laundry on national TV, same Ole stupid shat when he pulled it on Adam’s in the Eagles playoff game. Did you watch that game??? I guess it’s OK to lose it and bitch slap a player on National TV for ALL his friends and FAMILY to see.

  24. Show Me the TDs Says:

Dallas is over rated…every year. That’s low hanging fruit.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

Games still have to be played. All supposition at this point. Starting the season? All 31 teams think they are the best. But come about like game 9 or 10 or so..The real teams start to assert themselves.

  26. Goatfarmer Says:

It’s OK, Maniac has the inside scoop, he’s got a reporter that he twatters with, who assures everyone that Dardung is the best athlete on the team, so the best coach ever for the Bucs is washed and Gage’s signing doesn’t matter. ROFL.

I condone anything Bruce Arians did or didn’t do. You don’t think Antonio Brown is responsible or accountable for his own actions?

  28. Joe in Michigan Says:

    *I don’t condone*

  29. Listnfrmafar Says:

The door swings both ways and they both were shown the door. Never said AB wasn’t to blame, all I am pointing out is BA handle the situation poorly same as Adam’s. Maybe your boss should butch slap you at the next company XMAS party. Would you condone that?

  30. Joe in Michigan Says:

Dude, that was a love tap compared to what the the coaches did in my day (the 80’s).
