Trash Talk Adds Spice To Training Camp

August 8th, 2022

Bucs assistant Harold Goodwin.

Usually, around the third week of training camp, players are sick of the repetition.

You’ve heard it over and over every year because it is true. It is human nature. You do the same thing every day over and over, the boredom it gets to you.

The Bucs finished Practice No. 10 of training camp yesterday. The third week of training camp begins tomorrow (no practice today). So dudes getting ready to throw hands is right about on time.

Yesterday Luke Goedeke and K.J Britt were shoving each other after the whistle. This isn’t really shocking to Joe because Goedeke is a guy known in college for being a Ryan Jensen-type.

Yesterday speaking to the local pen and mic club, Bucs run game coordinator/offensive line coach Harold Goodwin seemed to enjoy guys getting feisty. He noted this pushing and shoving may have been because of trash talking between the offense and defense and that spices up a practice.

“I just think a lot of people are talking crap, which makes practice fun,” Goodwin said. “It will be good to get Miami in here in the next couple days.

“But that’s training camp. There’s always going to be a squabble here or there but that’s just part of it. As long as we don’t take it too far and make it personal, we’re fine.”

Sometimes coaches actually like to see this. They want to see guys tested and how they react or handle some hostile words or bulls trying to mark their turf.

Last year was a fun example. When Tennessee came to town for two practices (and a game), the first day the Titans pushed around the Bucs. Joe is convived then-Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians scolded his team for being soft because the next day, there were fights right and left.

So with the Dolphins coming in Wednesday, it will be interesting for Joe to see if the Bucs are still a little feisty like they were yesterday.

Winfield hopefully picks off Tua throwing to Tyreek Hill and gives him the deuce.

Any BA sightings lately at training camp?

I see that angry edge as a positive.

    I’d like a team with 52 pi$$ed off guys + Tommy Goat.

I said before I don’t want Goedeke trying to impress with fights like Jensen. It has ended up with many PF calls

For a minute I thought this was about the Gator’s soon to be cut 4th string quarterback from U of F.
