Tom Brady Will Be Just Fine

August 23rd, 2022

“Don’t worry Clyde, I canceled my Labor Day trip to Barbados.”

Joe knows a lot of guys, schooled by Wing-T-raised coaches in the  1960s and 1970s who believed players had to go Junction Boys-like camps to endure the rigors of a football season (and that a quarterback is just an ordinary cog), were outraged that Tom Brady had the nerve to skip town on a 10-day vacation in the middle of training camp.

To those old-school football guys, Brady’s Bahama getaway in mid-August amounted to football treason if not quitting.

Albert Breer of SI.com says, hold up!

The old school guys are convinced Brady won’t know his new offensive linemen and new receivers, and the offense will become clunky because of poor timing when the Bucs travel to Dallas in 19 days.

Breer calls it sheer nonsense.

Tom Brady is back at practice. Big deal that he missed 10 days? Well … guys in their late 20s get veteran days, so you’d imagine that a guy at 45 can manage a little more than that. Also, if you look, a 39-year-old Brett Favre signed with the Vikings three weeks and five days before their 2009 opener. He had new teammates to learn, a new offense to assimilate to (though he was familiar with OC Darrell Bevell), and an offseason’s worth of rust to knock off. In other words, he was facing more significant hurdles than Brady is.

How’d that turn out? The Vikings started 6–0, finished 12–4, made it to the NFC title game and Favre contended for MVP.

And Brady takes care of his body and studies the game way, way, way better than Favre ever did.

The last guy Joe is worried about not being ready or prepared is Brady.

Probably worth a flyer to see if the Amish Rifle can come in and compete. Long Live Fitz!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

No way Brady isn’t prepared……he has to leave so everyone else can catch up.

  3. Craig Says:

He will be fine until her is too old. When that will be has already trashed the reputation of a lot of talking heads.

  4. RuKa44 Says:

Is all the panic about Brady absence (an the nonsense that he could never come back) gone now Joe?
I bet you enjoyed all those extra clicks, didn’t ya?!?! 😉

  5. PassingThru Says:

Favre wasn’t planning behind a shattered O Line.

Though I think leaving camp was a bad look for both the Bucs and Brady, it didn’t matter in terms of the O Line. They would have imploded with him or without him. The only challenge is getting the new WRs on the same page

  6. Sean Says:

I don’t see why he couldn’t go on vacation during the off season. He’s given a lot of red meat to parasites like Rob Parker who absolutely hate Brady’s guts (part of Parker’s animosity is racial by his own admission). It’s still weird and as un-Brady-like a move as we’ve ever seen. Not saying it’s going to affect wins/losses but an unforced error.

  7. Red86 Says:

I wish everyone stop talking about Brady’s vacation, but wishes don’t always come true. Let’s just hope he didn’t do anything that will cause us draft picks. lol.

  8. Coran Says:

    @Sean
Brady isn’t doing to life his life based on what the Rob Parkers of the world are going to say about him lol. If he made a promise to his family (which seems likely given the fact it was his son’s birthday) he won’t break it just cuz some trolls aren’t going to like it.

Glad to see a more rational take on this from Joes.

  9. SB~LV Says:

    Naw!
That is not a fair conclusion, Junction Boys.
It was about cooling his heels while his boys were busting azz and possibly suffering a serious injury

  11. Beeej Says:

Well, at least we aren’t talking about Gronk anymore. Simply no pleasing you people

  12. DBS Says:

    Beggars can’t be Choosers.

  13. Robert Says:

he might be fine, but he’ll need more time to coach up the OL.

if he makes it through the 1st 3 games we should be ok……..and provided they bring in more OL depth JIC someone else goes down.

at this point the team is assembled, and I would watch even if TB went down, as Trask has been looking good.

  14. geno711 Says:

    Come-on PassingThru.

Do you remember anything about the Vikings offensive line that year. You are just throwing out crap with no basis.

If you looked it up like I did:

    1. You would see that their center was a 2nd year player that was a 6th round draft choice the year before that took no snaps at all in 2008.
    2. The other centers on their squad had zero career snaps.
    3. That their right tackle was a rookie drafted in the 2nd round.

  15. AbucAway Says:

His son’s birthday is the most plausible explanation, imo. This could be the first year in the boys life that dad has been available to go do cool stuff for an extended period of time together to celebrate his day. If so, Good on Tom.

    _________

    LOL, nicely said Beeej.

  17. George Says:

One of the benefits of Brady vacation, was Gabbert and Trask took all reps in practice and game. Those guys needed the reps.

  18. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Sean. Yes, Tom should’ve cancelled his vacation he planned with his wife and kids because the talking heads are angry. Brady can compartmentalize like no other. He is absolutely unbothered by what anyone thinks besides his coaches and teammates. I guess because I have a wife and kids that i look at this situation differently. Marriages always involve compromise. Gisele allowed him to return to play football as long as he kept his prior commitment to spend time with the his family. I have no problem with it all. He came back to practice and didn’t lose a beat. Shocking…

  19. Bucsfan13 Says:

Geno with the receipts! It shouldn’t matter because the man has put football before his family for 22 years. Why can’t people accept that he had a prior commitment to his family?! His kid would be in therapy for years because his father couldn’t honor his commitment because fans need him at training camp. Also, Brady couldn’t do anything to help that OL in training camp. Chemistry will happen only once a starting lineup is set.

  20. sasquatch Says:

Now that he’s back, there’s no reason for concern. The greater concern is assembling the inside of the O-line between now and Dallas. We should be good everywhere else.

  21. IrishTony Says:

We got to see how truly awful Gaebbert and Trask are and hope we (as a team and fan base) demand a level of excellence from the QB position moving forward. No more qb experiments;Sean King, Jaboos, Dilfer, Vinnies, Grieses, Craig Ericksons, PLEASE!

  22. teacherman777 Says:

I want Fitzpatrick as our backup.

    He may throw some picks.

But he’s also capable of breaking NFL records. (As he did for us!)

To start a season with 3 400 yard games.

Yea. Fitzpatrick is in the Hall of Fame Mr Joe.

    Love,

    Another Joe

“he might be fine, but he’ll need more time to coach up the OL.”

    Brady doesn’t coach. At all.

He demands perfection. Nonstop. Even of himself.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

For Brady, the talking-heads are fuel.

  25. 99 55 47 20 Says:

    TB12 likes the receipts

  26. GOB Says:

Brady has a certain cache with his teammates. It’s the only reason the vacation was tolerable. Would you rather be a teammate of Kirk cousins, who’s at camp everyday, or Brady. Football is Brady’s drug of choice. He loves the minutia. That’s why I believe this wasn’t entirely his decision. God forbid if they get off to a slow start, because the absence will be blamed. I’m one of those old school guys who believe in the grind. Doesn’t make me right, it’s just my opinion.

  27. Clinton Roche Says:

I think the biggest worry, was that something serious was going on and that he wouldn’t be back. now that worry is gone we are fine. I am sure he will be good to go day one. He didn’t need to spend 10 days in the hot humid Florida sun.

  28. T REX Says:

Uhhhh…QBs don’t leave for the bahamas during camp.

There is a process to winning and having a winning culture.

The above is NOT an ingredient.

Love Tommy but damn…that is messed up.

  29. Lakeland Steve Says:

So I saw a report from a well known Tampa area sports reporter that Brady was not on a vacation and that it will probably eventually come out. I don’t wish this on anyone but is it possible there is trouble in Bradys marriage and he had to take time off to sort it out?

  30. Eddie Marz Says:

T-Rex it’s a vacation during pre-season or there’s no Brady. Keep Giesle happy and now it’s time to get down to Championship Football. GOBUCS!

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

SB-LV, when his teammates have 7 SB’s under their belts they can bitch. For right now he works harder during the season than any of his teammates and apparently coaches. We’ve heard from many players how he texts them at all hours of the day and evening about situations. Do you think he should do more? How is that fair when his teammates are home playing video games. Get REAL!

  32. Goatfarmer Says:

G-hag needs to go to the space station for six months and test the effects of weightlessness on the physiognomy.
