So, How Worried Are The Bucs That Tom Brady Is Rusty?

August 24th, 2022

“Clyde, how is St. Lucia in November?”

This is all you need to know about how stressed the Bucs are/are not about Tom Brady getting back into the swing of things at One Buc Palace.

Brady, 45, who took an unprecedented 10-day vacation to the Bahamas in the middle of training camp, returned on Monday and much of the NFL chatter on national sports networks, various hollering shows and local media is the very same question.

How does Tom look?”

To Joe’s naked eye, Brady looks like he didn’t miss a beat, sharp and accurate with his same lightning-quick release.

Of course, Joe is just a Bromosa-swilling slob, not a quarterback technician studying ball release, footwork, properly bent knees, you know the drill. That’s why the Bucs employ coaches.

So how worried/concerned/triggered are the Bucs with Brady’s rust or lack thereof? Well, two days after Brady returned, he got a Vet Day off.

How many of us would blackmail our supervisors to get a day off two days after returning from the Bahamas? Must be nice, right?

So that shows you how much being away from football for 10 days in the middle of training camp has screwed up Brady.

Brady is just destroying the egos and narratives of all of these 1960s and 1970s Wing-T coaches who preached that if a team doesn’t have a Junction Boys-like boot camp for training camp, the team will crumble before the first game. And Joe is all here for it!

Asked after practice today for impressions of Brady been since he got back from vacation, Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich summed it up in one word.

“Excellent.”

  2. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Mr. Brady will be just fine, sure he took today off to work on that golf game. Greatness will rear it’s head on Sept 11….Go Bucs!!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Ruary?……Tom Brady rusty? Next question.

“Of course, Joe is just a Bromosa-swilling slob. He’s not a…” expert who opines regularly on JBF.

  5. GOB Says:

I’m sure he didn’t just sit on his ass in the Bahamas, eating cheeseburgers and drinking beer. I still don’t approve of the absence but, he’ll be fine. You don’t lose all that muscle memory in 10 days. If they get off to a slow start, the absence will be blamed. I can see the headlines now. “Bucs 1-3, Because Super G wouldn’t let Tommy play”

Tom Brady is not about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom Brady is about Tom Brady. The fact that folks try to make excuses for him skipping out on work is hilarious.

He doesn’t like Tampa Bay. He wanted to leave for Miami during the middle of a heated season for the Bucs. There’s a reason he is a FA at the end of this season.

  7. sasquatch Says:

filler material… no one believes those 10 days off are going to affect Brady’s game.

  8. PassingThru Says:

Yes, Brady wanted to play football so bad for Miami that he made plans to be with his family during camp and the preseason (something he couldn’t have done if he was joining a new team). No, he was planning on retiring and assuming an ownership position.

  9. SB Says:

RUST??? This is Tom Freaking Brady we are talking about!!
    Rust. smdh

  10. SOEbuc Says:

Been confirmed by Brate and Lavonte that no on is sweating it and the greatest is allowed to take 11 days off in the PS, especially since he wouldn’t come close to touching the field in game’s.

  11. JA Says:

He probably worked out with his son, who played wide receiver, in the Bahamas.
I heard somewhere, but I forgot where, that throwing a football while barefoot in the sand is an excellent training tool for footwork on real turf. So he’s good.
    No worries, folks.
Did I hear the sand training technique from the people who said Brady was away making a TV show with a bag over his head?
From the guys who said his marriage was on the rocks?
The guys who said he was making a movie?
Was it from the guy who said Brady was on the Moon scouting craters for the next lunar landing?
There are so many experts out there I have trouble remembering where I get my dubious takes …

  12. SOEbuc Says:

The real question is how does he look (from one day I suppose) with his oline? The one thing I hate is he has not practiced any real starter oline communication with Hainsey, Leverett, and Goedeke.

  13. ocala Says:

Trask brought me back to the bad ole days of Bucs football. As Buc fans we are so lucky to have TB12 as the QB.

  14. PassingThru Says:

    @JA

Throwing a football (and playing football) in the sand is a blast, as long as the beach is clean. I once badly gashed my foot on glass buried in the sand as I pivoted to make a pass.

  15. Jason Says:

It was all about Giselle getting that TB12 BDE. She’s 40 and during the season she doesn’t get as much sexy time with her husband as she would like. And considering that it is the final season for the most dedicated, focused man she has ever met,?!? Shoot. She knows she ain’t getting it very much for the next 5 months, so this trip was for her.

Funny part is this isn’t one of my normal lame jokes. I actually believe I’m right. Lol.

  16. AbucAway Says:

Another vet day after 10 of them? He really has bitched up the front office for sure. Good job Tom.

  17. SPARKY Says:

I may be wrong, but the year Brady got suspended for deflategate he couldn’t practice with the team for them 4 weeks? Didn’t he come back and do like 30 tds to 3 interceptions? And win another super bowl? Don’t worry about Tom Brady.

  18. SB~LV Says:

    Trusty
    Not rusty

  19. Bojim Says:

    Not worried

  20. Cobraboy Says:

Training camp has changed because pro and college football has changed,

Those 60’s and 70’s wing-T types played football for a few fall months, and in college maybe a couple of weeks. Weight room? Who needed a weight room when you had to put food on the table in the off-season. Keep in mind the minimum salary back then was like $18,000-20,000, and “taxi teams” had maybe 6 guys they stashed off IR.

Training camp was where linemen lost 30 lbs of off-season eats, and skill guys learned to run fast again. It took 6-8 weeks at least of two-a-day sweat, and Perkins did three-a-days.

Today, even in high school, football is practically a full-time gig. Players not named Tyler Johnson stayed in shape year-round, and guys do private off-site workouts. TC is for season mental prep, not physical prep.

Today’s rust is a different composite from 60’s-70’s Wing-T rust.

  21. GOB Says:

Passing, I did the same thing on a broken clam shell. Four stitches, and a half a fifth of JW Black later, all good.

  23. TraskIsTheFuture Says:

Someone called him Trusty? Lol. Ditching work to go to your private tropical island is not the definition of that. Tom Brady is all about Tom.

  24. Darin Says:

Anyone worried about Brady needs meds asap

  25. ModHairKen Says:

Everyone who is still upset about him being gone, just pretend he had a pulled hamstring and that’s why he missed time. There, you feel better?

  26. David Says:

Right now I am only worried about guard depth, middle linebacker depth, and safety depth. What’s the deal with Neal‘s injury?

  27. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

What??? Super G’oneill hasn’t chimed in about how the Bucs have never developed their own qb and if they had we wouldn’t be putting up with him??? Guess he doesn’t realize we also would’ve never got that 2nd Superbowl without him either

  28. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

GOB, I’m making a cheeseburger on the grill tonight and drinking a few IPAs. So, I am sitting on my ass, drinking beer and eating a cheeseburger. Got some fries that will be going in the toaster oven too!

  29. SOEbuc Says:

David…Bowles said Neal will be ready week one.

  30. SOEbuc Says:
