“He’s A Man’s Man”

August 24th, 2022

Rookie running back Rachaad White.

It helps to be manly at One Buc Palace.

That was the message today from offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich when he was asked about rookie third-round pick running back Rachaad White.

White is fitting in well. The only question is whether he’ll find snaps when it counts.

“He’s a man’s man, I call him,” Leftwich said of White. “To be a young guy, he’s a really thorough guy. He’s really aware, he’s really smart. He plays the game in a physical way. He takes notes like a quarterback. So he’s a real smart kid that has an understanding and feel for football, which allows him to play the way that he plays.”

Joe hopes a big Saturday is ahead for all the talented Bucs’ running backs in Indianapolis that get in the game. It would be nice to see a powerful ground attack in addition to through the air.

White’s ball security wasn’t good the past two preseason games. He needs to fix that immediately — Playoff Lenny-style.

The kid is fun to watch and he is a fantastic story. To overcome all that he has in life, he has an incredible infectious attitude, with a smile on his face.

  2. SB~LV Says:

    He gonna be great!

  3. Maniac Buc Says:

There isn’t a rookie in this class not to cheer for.

  4. PSL Bob Says:

The first of his fumbles last week was a fluke. The second one was a solid hit and probably would have caused a fumble had another RB been carrying the ball. Just got to learn to tuck and clinch the ball when approaching traffic. He’ll be fine.

Just needs to prove he can pass protect, then Lenny is going to have a hell of a time keeping this kid off the field.

  8. CrackWise Says:

Wouldn’t it be fitting if White became our workhorse!!! See what I did there Devin?

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t blame him at all for that 1st game turnover……the pass was low and off his hip….there is really no way he could have avoided the interception.

The running play in the second game is on him….

But, you can see that this kid has loads of talent…..reminds me of a better Charles Sims…….

LOL Welcome to the NFL: Defenses will strip the ball in a heartbeat. Especially Tennessee

LOL Howard spelled Tennessee righ thte 1st time

I’m excited to see this dude get his feet under him so that he can start kicking butt. I know there is a lot of talk about the older guys on the team, but we have a bunch of good young players too and some potentially damn good young talent as well. Regardless of what happens with “holier than thou, do as I say, not as I do, I’ll F off when it pleases me” Brady, the future looks promising.

  12. Howard Cosell Says:

    ^ u mad bro?

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard doesn’t question The Brady, he just tries to learn from him.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

They should call White “Sneak” and not Vaughn.

This guy is smooth, patient, keeps his feet light and active…and when there is a sliver of daylight, BOOM, through the crack.

IMO, he is a spitting image of LeVeon Bell.

  15. Howard Cosell Says:

Huge compliment coming from you CB

  16. George Says:

I like the physical way White runs the ball. Looking forward to a bright future for him.

  17. NCBucfan Says:

He def has more to offer than Rojo!

  18. Howard Cosell Says:

    4x smarter than Rojo
(Not being mean, just calling it like Howard sees it)

  19. Cobraboy Says:

@Howard: he’s a different back from Fournette. He’s a change-of-pace but in a more unconventional way, not a little, quick scat back (like Alstott/Dunn), but after getting pinned with Fournette who comes right at you, in comes White with patient stop-and-start-and-go smoothness.

The question which will determine playing time: what does Brady think?

  20. Howard Cosell Says:

^ Howard knows you have some football background and give great takes.

Yes. This kid will do what it takes to get TB’s attention.

Also yes…”smooth” is also the word Howard would use.
Smooth, but also a wicked hard runner with great vision.
Hence the Bell analogy vs say Warrick Dunn who was smooth
    but not a hard runner.

The epic movie Bullitt with Steve McQueen is on tonight a at 6pm.
Howard is making popcorn and reading JBF until then

  23. David Says:

He is going to be just fine. So far in preseason him, Hall and Otton have shown flashes that they absolutely belong in the NFL and will contribute

  24. CrackWise Says:

David, you forgot to mention Trask 🙂

  25. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Love this kid. He has a chance to be special.

  26. Crunchbuc Says:

He’s RoJo only with hands and blocking skills.

  27. GOB Says:

Just catch what’s thrown to you, don’t fumble and most importantly, don’t get Brady killed. By far the hardest part of being a rookie RB, is blitz pickup. I’m sure some teams will spin the dial on Brady at times. You can’t just let him sit back there and pick you apart. I love the kids story and attitude. Still think he was drafted to high. Guess we’ll see…

  28. Nicky666 Says:

Dude definetly puts off LeVeon Bell vibes with that running style – patient and fluid – he looks smooth with the ball in his hands – really hope he gets a chance to see the field this year

  29. lambeau Says:

I agree with Cobraboy–this kid has much better vision than Lenny.
He’s got it all–question is, will there be snaps for Lenny?
