Logan Ryan Likes What He Sees With Julio Jones

August 10th, 2022

Julio Jones grabs a pass in front of Dolphins corner Xavien Howard Wednesday at Dolphins-Bucs controlled scrimmage.

The cool thing about watching each and every training camp practice is seeing, over a period of a few practices, guys gradually get better (or, sadly, regress).

Joe likes to type highlights of each day. Sometimes this includes play-by-play. Often, readers get irked at Joe because their favorite player isn’t included. It is fully out of Joe’s control what players are on the field, what plays are called, who is targeted and who may make a defensive play.

Early on after Julio Jones signed, he wasn’t involved much with the offense simply because he was new to the Bucs and didn’t know the offense. Gradually, that has changed.

Julio is getting more and more involved in the offense. And more and more Julio is making plays. Today, Julio was schooling Dolphins defensive backs.

One of the best plays came on 7-on-7 drills when Julio skied over a defensive back and hauled in a catch from Tom Brady along the left sideline.

Each day Julio seems to get smoother and smoother with his play. And Bucs defensive back Logan Ryan is not surprised at all.

“He looks like Julio to me,” Ryan said.

So how big of an impact can Julio have with the Bucs? Major, Ryan believes. He hinted that only a fool of a defensive coordinator would ignore Julio and that will take heat off the rest of the receivers.

“When you play against Julio Jones you gameplan for him,” Ryan said. “He’s not a guy that I have ever been part of a gameplan for him where you didn’t factor-in and double [-team] and understand where he is at every play. And have a special coverage for him.”

Simply put, Ryan said defenses’ best have plans — if they plan to slow down Julio.

“He dictates gameplans. and that frees up other guys.”

So let’s see, if you don’t gameplan for Mike Evans you will get roasted. If you don’t gameplan for Chris Godwin you will pay the price. If you don’t gameplan for Julio he will dominate.

Ryan added opposing defenses best watch out. Julio didn’t come to Tampa Bay just to collect a check, hang on Indian Rocks Beach and eat good Cuban sandwiches.

“So, Julio is Julio,” Ryan said. “You see him out there [Ryan points to the practice fields] every day on the Juggs [machine] early and on the Juggs late. He puts a lot of work in.

“So Julio and myself, no matter where we have been or what we have done, I think we are really committed to try to win a championship this year.”

If guys will just stop getting damn cramps, this ought to be a really fun season.

Ha. Indian rocks beach. Is where it all began. Thanks for the flashback when i was so young i barely remember

In regards to julio. Yup. We need to keep him from coming down with hammy – itis. Cause how are you going to plan against evans godwin julio and gage. Good luck with that. Heck julio can fill in gronks lineup spot on passing downs

Better believe when I’m in Pinellas rather than hibernating on one cold winters day up North, a certain restaurant just south of Sand Key Park will be on the agenda. Good Cuban sandwich on that exceptional bread? Oh yeah. Good thing I’m not in training.

Weird that brady showed up today

Brad r dempsey literally said yesterday- brady wouldn’t show for
Joint practices cause of fins/ brady drama or something ?
    Cause he scared?

We literally have some of the worst fans…and no question its just another messiah cult nutsmuggler that is so sad the bucs are legit under brady. And not the former guy

Well now, Logan Ryan actually plays the game and is right there. Let’s just imagine if Julio can stay healthy and maintain his level………………hoo, boy.

(gif of dog licking his chops)

I love eating crow. The taste of crow gets better after a few hourrs in the smoker.

    Prove me wrong Julio!

I’m no leg muscle guru, but JJ looks to be a bit light on leg muscles. maybe it’s just the picture or the fact that he is so tall. especially right above the knee.

I never watched him that much although I know he was a beast. Is he a straight line or one cut kind of guy?

    probably just the angle…

  6. Maniac Buc Says:

People may not want to hear this, but a healthy Julio is probably the best, or most talented, receiver on this roster. It’s been injuries for him over the last two years, not a decline in talent. The dude can still straight up ball.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I suspect Julio is charged up to play with Brady…….

    I’d say he’s a pretty good #4 WR…..

  8. GOB Says:

I’ll believe it when I see it in a game that matters. Look at his contract. He needs to prove he can stay healthy. 33 year old recievers, with a history of hamstring problems, usually don’t get healthier. Is there reason to be cautiously optimistic? sure. But, this isn’t the player from 5 years ago. A little temperance is needed here.

Ahhh! Indian Rocks beach and cuban sandwiches bring back fond memories of my formative years in Tampa. GO BUCS!!!

  10. David Says:

Love it!!!! People were so quick to write him off, he is not that old. He went to an office that was a run heavy off ants. Even if he is 3/4 of what he used to be, sticking that alongside Evans and Godwin and Gage… Lenny might receive 1000 yards out of the backfield if teams decide to drop 7 DBs all day

    LFG!!!!

(One big question, how did left guard look and who started?)

  11. Goatfarmer Says:

GOB is right. Healthy he’s as good as anyone, he just can’t stay that way.

  12. Mike Says:

Julio as a #4 is going to be a match up nightmare for any team. I can see the Bucs running a lot of 3 and 4 wide formations to get their best weapons on the field.

  13. Beej Says:

Julio played w Matt Ryan for near a decade, LAST year he was inflicted with Tannehill, who’s main job is to hand off to Derrick Henry

  14. SlyPirate Says:

It would be the SO INCREDIBLY FUNNY for Julio to win a Super Bowl on Bucs with TB12. Julio would roll into Atlanta with a Bucs ring on his finger!!!
