Logan Hall Looking Solid

Logan Hall

Bucs DL Logan Hall.

So, how are things going with Bucs rookie defensive lineman Logan Hall? Not too shabby in the eyes of one observer.

Chad Reuter of NFL.com decided to monitor each team’s top draft pick during preseason Week 2. And so far, Reuter believes Hall is showing progress and (gasp!) hope.

Hall started for the Bucs against Tennessee on Saturday, getting off the ball low for a 6-foot-6 lineman. He held the line of scrimmage well against backup right guards in the first quarter, staying square and landing strong hands. Hall was violent with those hands, as well, swiping aside his opponent to create space. It was tougher for him to make forward progress while facing left tackle Taylor Lewan at the five-technique spot during the game’s second series, though he battled the veteran on every snap. Hall’s only tackle came 24 yards downfield, showcasing his athleticism by tracking down Malik Willis on the sideline and pushing him out of bounds.

Understandably tired, he ended up on the ground trying to stand up against a double-team on the next play. While the former Houston Cougar didn’t light up the stat sheet in the first half against the Titans, he showed he can collapse the pocket, effectively control his gap in the run game and make plays outside the box when needed.

As Reuter points out, if a rookie can hold his own against Taylor Lewan in only his second game wearing a Bucs uniform, it is a good sign.

Joe remembers watching Ali Marpet as a rookie in his first padded practice since playing in Division-III. He held his own against Gerald McCoy.

And yes, we know the rest of the story there.

Joe also liked how Hall busted his tail some 20 yards to make a tackle. Hustling is a very underrated element of football.

Can’t make a play if you don’t put yourself in position to make a play.

Logan Hall grew up on El Tiempo margs. They make you strong.
    Suh.

  2. Anonymous Says:

I knew if he was able to come through It would be huge help to Shaq and JTS was a monster flying all over first string.

  3. Bucs Win Says:

    Go Bucs!!

  4. SB~LV Says:

Solid is good for a rookie

  5. Beeej Says:

Saw an article elsewhere, Suh is still demanding $8-$9 million, is talking to Raiders

  6. Steven007 Says:

Very encouraging. If He’s solid against the run this year and gets a couple of sacks that will be great. JJ Watt in his rookie year got five and a half sacks I believe. Obviously I’m not comparing Hall to Watt but anywhere near that kind of production will be very encouraging.

  7. AbucAway Says:

That was a good call by the offense to capitalize on Hall having to catch his breath after hauling ass for 20+ yards. You know which other defensive lineman uses all his juice to chase down plays 20+ yards down the field?

  8. Dooley Says:

Hall’s play has been encouraging for sure, nothing splashy, but the good vastly outweighs any negatives in how he’s played in limited preseason action. One thing I think Logan Hall can do w/o is the little spin he does in attempts to disengage from whomever is blocking him, counted 5 times in the first half versus Tennessees’ OL where he tried pulling that one out to free himself up. To me, it’s a move he can save for later, but coaches should be steering him away from wasting so much motion mid-play.

  9. BigPoppaBuc Says:

I hope Hall is glued to Hicks’ hip, learning everything he can. The mix of youth and veterans on the DL is really great. I know the WRs get a lot of love but our DL room is extremely good imo. Logan Hall doesn’t really have to do it all, just contribute and keep getting better every game.

  10. Nicky666 Says:

I have a feeling he will be even more effective when he’s lining up next to Vea and Hicks – Those 2 demand so much attention its gonna free him up to make some big plays – excited to see what he does when the games count! GO BUCS!!!!

  11. Marine Buc Says:

No disrespect to the “Suh lovers” – but tell Suh to take his ridiculous contract demand$ and shove them where the sun don’t shine… We will be fine without him.

Last I heard he wanted @ $9M… If true that is a silly joke.

  12. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Sounds great. My only quibble is that hustling NOT underrated.

  13. SB~LV Says:

I wonder how many snaps VV and Hicks will have together or will they mostly be
    rotating on and off

  14. #8 Says:

My world assume $ doesn’t matter, because it shouldn’t this year.
Imagine a rotation of Suh, Vea, Hicks. This way assures two, together often.
    Suh.
    Oh yeah & maybe some O-Line now…

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hall is a good pick……I love this draft class….

And, our punter may have been the best player on the field vs Tn……..

He had 2 65 yard punts….1 downed inside the 20 and another that should have beend downed at the 4 but the chump let the ball go into the end zone.

  16. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

Can he Play Guard? asking for a friend…lol

  17. Mike Says:

He is going to get a lot of playing time this year. I imagine them keeping Hicks on a snap count much like Vea last year, in hopes to save him for a playoff run.

  18. BucsfanFred Says:

I think it was John Madden who used to say:”good things happen to those who persue”.

  19. Mark A Swygert Says:

So *8 you say the dollars mean nothing in your world? Unfortunately the NFL is not a fairy tale. Even most fantasy football leagues have salary caps.

  20. Defense Rules Says:

Marine Buc … ‘No disrespect to the “Suh lovers” – but tell Suh to take his ridiculous contract demand$ and shove them where the sun don’t shine… We will be fine without him.’

At age 35, I seriously doubt that Suh ever had any intention of going through another training camp, with the Bucs or anyone else. If I remember correctly, he’s also his own agent. And last I heard, he’s got several teams interested in procuring his services.

Putting all that together, why wouldn’t he ASK for the same as he got last year ($9 mil)? Shoot for the moon baby. The beauty of negotiations to me was always that the SELLER (Suh) can ASK whatever they want; it’s the BUYER (Bucs or someone else) who decides what they’re willing (and able) to pay.

Suh MIGHT get $9 mil from SOMEONE, but it won’t be from the Bucs. Still, that doesn’t mean that he won’t end up a Buc this year IF a serious need arises AND both sides are willing to COMPROMISE (as I remember, Hicks’ contract is very incentive-laden). Seems like I remember COMPROMISE as being part of negotiations too. Learned a long time ago to ‘Never Say Never’. Changing circumstances sometimes have a way of humbling folks.

  21. Buc4evr Says:

This probably Sun’s last season if he can find a team willing to pay $9 mil. The Vikings wouldn’t. If the Raiders do, they are nuts. He is probably worth about $5 mil with incentives?

  22. #8 Says:

    Can’t speel compromise without Suh.

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

    Reviews are on thing
ESPECIALLY this time of year and about Our draft picks.

Vernon Hargreaves and Noah Spence were football Gods, according to the coaches and reviews.
But if you watched them. It was apparent that they werent going to cut it in the NFL.

Not saying that about Hall, but So far- hes been invisible. Just a pancake on the field.
    I hope he adjust.

  24. steele Says:

Capt Tim, don’t forget Vernon Butler. Who’s available, by the way. Couldn’t even make it with the Raiders.

  25. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

#8 you can’t spell spell with two e’s either. Suh will compromise after preseason is over

  26. Goatfarmer Says:

    Suh for $3 million.

  27. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

Marine Buc says ” tell Suh to take his ridiculous contract demand$ and shove them where the sun don’t shine”

    __________

I agree that it might have been time to move on, but feel he deserves a little more respect & credit for what he gave us. Just my thoughts on the guy.

  28. Side Job Bob Says:

I’m going to agree with #8. This is super bowl or bust this year. Defense wins championships, let’s pay suh and have a very fresh, deep, and destructive defensive line.

  29. Goatfarmer Says:

    Suh for $3.3 million.

    Negotiating with myself.

  30. Esteban85 Says:

Man half the time idk wtf you jokers are saying.

  31. Oneilbuc Says:

Let’s wait and see what he is he’s young but I think he’s going to be good. Our defense will determine if we win the Superbowl.
