Leonard Fournette: All Hail, Julio!

August 11th, 2022

Bucs WR Julio Jones.

Among the questions Joe had for Bucs defensive back Logan Ryan yesterday was, given Ryan’s 10 NFL seasons, what are his two cents on the current condition of Julio Jones and whether his skills have eroded?

Ryan had a simple answer: “Julio is Julio.”

And yeah, Ryan is impressed.

He isn’t the only Bucs player.

Playoff Lenny was asked what player on the Bucs sticks out for him. Playoff Lenny said it is clear: Julio.

“Julio (Jones)…definitely,” Playoff Lenny said yesterday. “You see a guy of his stature, how big and fast he runs and how he gets open and you see why he is where he is at in the league. I see it every day up front, and he is one of those guys.”

Julio looks better each day as he gets more comfortable in the Bucs offense. And the way he made a couple of huge catches yesterday against Dolphins defensive backs, you can’t help but think of what could be:

Bucs fans’ mouths are watering thinking of Tom Brady in a four-wide set with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Russell Gage and Julio on the field. If you are an opposing defensive coordinator, what the hell are you going to do?

Joe is expecting a fun, fun offense. Can the regular season get here already? Man!

Need those guys to get healthy first.

  2. Bird Says:

Yup. Lets get the routes down. Timing down and put them on the towel drying rack. These are all proven guys who have seen almost everything. No need to have them hurt in some stupid scrimmage/ preseason game

And i know freak things happen in football and its a contact sport. But again , these 4 guys are all veteran studs and no what to do

  3. Uhmm Says:

Week 6 we are all going to be looking back at the good days when Julio was Julio and healthy in training camp and the Bucs WR core was the best ever……

    Ahhh the good ol days…

What’s the over/under on how many snaps will occur this season with Evans/Godwin/Gage/Jones all on the field at the same time?

  5. Casual Observer Says:

It doesn’t seem like he is over the hill; as some (including me) have wondered. If he is “back”- look out NFL. The quality of our WR corps (as Joe has said a couple of times) may be the best in NFL history. If not, close to it. Exciting games ahead.

I read an article rating the biggest steals in free agent signings, and our addition of Julio Jones led the list!
Our current receiver lineup might just be the best ever assembled in the history of the NFL!
The best receiver lineup with the QB who is the GOAT should equal misery for our opponents.
I am very excited about this season, and think we are going all the way.

Normally, I’d look at some of these player’s comments with great skepticism….

I mean….what do you expect them to say…”Julio is a shadow of his former self….he’s done….finished…can’t believe we are going to bump a good young receiver off the roster for this old dude.”

But, I’ve seen him out there in TC with my own eyes….he’s still Julio!!!

  8. Buczilla Says:

You know, out of all of the teams in our division I despise the falcons the least. Our starting qb is the guy most responsible for handing the falcons the worst loss in the history of the nfl. Add to that, the best player in their teams history is on our team now and looking damn good. I “almost” feel sorry for em. I can’t wait for the regular season to start either, but I’ll settle for Saturday’s preseason game. I’m really looking forward to seeing White and Hall.

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

I bet some of you are just a riot at parties!!! This is the time of year FOR optimism!

  10. BillyBucco Says:

Glad the regular season isn’t here or we would be starting Julio, Scotty and Johnson at WR.

  11. Tim Says:

We’ll be going into games this fall with the Bucs receivers and the Falcons receivers. Should be interesting to watch.

  12. Bobby M. Says:

Teams will be forced to blitz…..Brady will pick apart zone coverages, only shot to disrupt him is blitzing…which he tends to pick that apart as well.

  13. BucsfanFred Says:

    We shall see.

  14. unbelievable Says:

Mouth watering indeed… if Tom Brady is actually around to throw them ball and not taking “personal days” all season long.
