NFL Trying To Erase Bucs History

July 4th, 2022

Hey Warren, you believe how the NFL is trying to cancel us?”

Updated 3:10 p.m: – This is downright sad and Joe is damn angry about it.

NFL Network, or more likely someone high up the food chain with the NFL (perhaps all the way up to NFL strongman Roger Goodell), is trying to make NFL fans forget the Bucs even won the Super Bowl in January 2003.

If you are like Joe, a day doesn’t go where you don’t watch NFL Network, even if just for a brief few moments. (Joe doesn’t trust anyone who claims to be a football fan but doesn’t at least check out the network at some point each day.) So Joe is confident fans noticed NFL Network is running an “America’s Game” marathon this weekend.

You know, America’s birthday weekend and “America’s Game?” Perfect fit, right? Well, not quite!

NFL Films and NFL Network launched the “America’s Game” series years ago. It’s an hour-long documentary chronicling the winning season for each Super Bowl champion. This weekend, each “America’s Game” episode was broadcast in chronological order, from the 1966 Green Bay Packers to the 2020 Tampa Bay Bucs (the 2021 Los Angeles Rams’ episode has yet to air).

Well, all but two. That’s the 2002 Tampa Bay Bucs and the 1995 Cowboys.

That’s right. The NFL is pretending like that Bucs season never existed. And why is that? Because it has or is trying to cancel the two big stars of that season and the “America’s Game” episode: Chucky and Warren Sapp.

It is a slap in the face to Bucs fans followed by a spit in the eye.

You know the story by now: Chucky was outed by someone last year when emails he typed — after he left the Bucs and wasn’t employed by the NFL — were leaked to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. In the emails, Chucky had very vulgar if not ugly comments about groups of people.

Chucky was immediately fired by the Raiders and Team Glazer also thought the second-best coach in Bucs history and the winningest coach in Bucs history should be booted from the Ring of Honor as a result. Team Glazer happened to be a target of some of Chucky’s vile emails.

Joe didn’t like that decision then and still doesn’t. Joe doesn’t believe in erasing history. If something is unpleasant, use it as a teaching moment, don’t pull an ostrich and pretend it never happened.

Frankly, Joe was waiting for this to happen. For example, good luck ever seeing Warren Sapp’s bio from the “Football Life” series produced NFL Network and NFL Films ever being broadcast again by the network. Sapp was once a talking head on NFL Network and he got canned from that gig after he was arrested for allegedly slapping around a pair of businesswomen in Arizona.

Sapp’s feature on “Football Life” hasn’t seen the light of day on NFL Network since.

The Bucs’ “America’s Game,” which featured Chucky, John Lynch and Sapp highlighting the season through observations and storytelling is fronted by two guys the NFL wants you to believe never existed. So the NFL is canceling Chucky and Sapp. Erasing proud Bucs history in the process.

In Joe’s eyes, this is a coward’s move at best. They could have just added something to the end of the episode explaining what Chucky and Sapp did and how they paid the price. Again, use it as a teaching moment. Don’t erase proud history of the greatest accomplishment of a too-often terrible franchise.

Yeah, that NFL Network was cowardly. Purge it from the hard drive. Never happened. What else would you expect from a sniveling fraud and a pandering, spineless humanoid like Goodell?

Joe finds it interesting that the 2002 Bucs’ “America’s Game” episode is now deemed too distasteful by NFL suits but it’s OK to highlight the 2009 New Orleans slimy Saints’ “America’s Game” episode. This celebrated a team that featured a starting defensive back who is doing 20 years in the hole after copping a plea for being a serial rapist; a defensive coordinator busted for having a bounty on opponents’ heads; and a head coach cited in a lawsuit for being behind shady internal hijinks involving prescription painkillers.

Joe supposes all the slimy Saints’ antics are kosher in the NFL’s eyes. But God forbid you use politically incorrect language in a private emails when you weren’t employed in the NFL, or be accused of indiscretions with women after your playing career. The NFL cannot tolerate that! Therefore, you will be scrubbed from the annals of the NFL.

(And don’t get Joe started on the Belicheats.)

What a f’ing crock!

I’m right there with you Joe 1000%. Pure cowards move and If it was not ok’d by The strong man himself then he should be ashamed

  2. DoooshLaRue Says:

    This is beyond F’ed up.
FU Roger and your PC BS!

  3. '79 Defense Says:

Freaking cowards. This kind of thing makes me want to give up on the NFL. Sports is supposed to be an escape and enjoyable, not political.

“Oh, we can’t take a chance on offending anyone by showing this because that’s the game we have to play now.” It’s not like they all the sudden give a crap about this. T

  4. 1sparkybuc Says:

America’s Game on the 2002 Bucs was broadcast at 2:00 AM on February 11th. I recorded it and saved it. I believe I have seen since then, but can’t pinpoint exactly when.

  5. SB~LV Says:

    Hello!!!
The sports media, the other team owners, the Ref’s , the rest of the country have always used the franchise as the redheaded step child!

  6. Razor Ramone Says:

This totally sucks. That is a great episode too, not just as a Bucs fan but Chucky and Sapp and Lynch do a great job telling the story of that crazy season.

  7. BucBrady Says:

So, this site is just an airing of grievances now? Happy Festivus!

  8. DoooshLaRue Says:

Come on now Herr Goodell, in the name of fairness, why don’t you launch a full-scale investigation into ALL SB winning teams and their players, coaches and owners and see what indiscretions they committed and then cancel them too.

I’m sure there are many guilty parties in addition to the Slimy Saints “hassles” Joe pointed out.

  9. Oneilbuc Says:

I agree 👍🏽 with you as well Joe. That’s why as a fan base we need to support our young players on the team. That’s why I’m rooting for Trask and the rest of our young players.

  10. Cobraboy Says:

Canceling is all the thing to the reallyreallyreally kool woke crowd…

  11. ATLBucsFan Says:

I’m with you Joe. Noticed it as well. How sad that the NFL will erase the excellent effort of all the players from that team. Like, hey, they didn’t exist! Such disrespect for all the work the players put into the season and the fine work they put on the field. Still angry about it and glad you also picked up on it.

  12. DarenGibo Says:

We are not allowed to post youtube links?

  13. Smashsquatch Says:

Thanks for pointing this out. I suppose they should cancel the Texans, Browns, Chiefs, Ravens, Steelers….. Total BS!

  14. Alanbucsfan Says:

The NFL considers China a “priority market” and has already endorsed the idea that Taiwan is part of mainland China- why should their woke crap surprise anyone?

  15. SufferingSince76 Says:

Roger Goodell is stealing money from the NFL via his salary. What has he done to earn that kind of cash?

  16. tampabayallday Says:

Free Gruden, he did nothing wrong. Shame the Glazers took his name off, talk about WEAK.

  17. August 1976 Buc Says:

There is a Lombardi from 2003 Super Bowl at 1Buc Palace. Whatever, this is the culture of the day, it is par for the course. Again the Lombardi from the beatdown of the Raiders is still at 1 Buc Palace. I love the Bucs, but with the multitude of real problems so many face daily here in the Philippines or other countries, people struggling just to eat, or have a lively hood and earn so their family can make it day to day. For me, the Bucs not being shown winning SB XXXVII just does not seem as important when compared to real issues people have just trying to make an honest living. Again I am a franchise long fan, since 1976, but my perspective is just different. To each their own. And yes this is an awesome blog none the less lol. Just saying…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  18. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I hope Jon Gruden has his day in court, against the NFL, but they will probably settle out court.

  19. FirstTimePoster Says:

“Slapping around a couple of Business women”
Hahahahahahahahaha. Go ahead and call them what they are Joe(s)!

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    “businesswomen in Arizona”

That struck me too, FirstTimePoster, lol.

As to NFLN not airing the episode, I hope Joe or Ira will contact them for comment. There were other people on the team besides Sapp and Gruden…is their part of history to be ignored?

It’s a slap in the face for the fans and the players…and the coaches and owners.

I can see where Gruden crossed a line…but…the leaking of those emails was an invasion of privacy. I don’t personally care for Gruden, but he did get us that ring, and it should be acknowledged.

As to Sapp…well…as I recall there was more to that story. Hitting women isn’t acceptable so far as that goes, but there was def more to it.

  21. Mike Says:

Whether they air it or not, they can’t take away what the Bucs accomplished.

  22. Jbeachbuc Says:

Laughable, as I’m watching Ray Rive toting the rock during the Ravens 2012 SB run.

  23. D-Rome Says:

Just remember, the people who support any form of cancel culture voted for the current disastrous administration.

  24. gp Says:

    It’s a Bucs life.
This franchise has been disrespected since it’s inception.
By the NFL (organization and teams), referees, sports media (with rare exceptions), nothing new here.

    SB~LV has it right.

  25. RandsABucFan Says:

Yep, cowering to the 1% of cancel culture Karens

  26. What the Bucc Says:

That 2002 team is still the only team not invited to the White House after winning the SB.

  27. G in MAxxa Says:

Roger is a stiff. What he did to Brady is outrageous and he has no issue with it ! He picks players he likes an d they can do no wrong right Ray Lewis ? I’m willing to bet Watson starts the season this year.

  28. Biff Barker Says:

I already quit the NFL once because of their woke hypocrisy. I only returned when the Buc finally got a real quarterback. That’s all over next year.

Most of my family and friends don’t bother with the woke NFL hypocrites anymore. After 50 years of talking smack most simply don’t care. The NHL has went the way of disco music and neon fashions to most.

    Gruden deserves to win big!

  29. UKBuccaneer Says:

‘Cancel culture’ scream the people who also support cancel culture, as long as it suits their own bias. Remember the Trump has tried to ‘cancel’ plenty of folk over the decades.

  30. Tony Says:

The NFL, NHL, MLB & NBA all have their favorites & they’re all very bias towards certain cities & Tampa seems to be one of them. The area is growing more & more & the Bucs, Lightning & Rays have done much better over the recent years. But they’re all so used to them being horrible in the past & that they’re so bias towards them now. They’re very bias towards Boston, too! They’ll try anything possible to make that city win. That’s why that city has gotten so spoiled because they just expect to win everything now & when they don’t win they start complaining.

If the Glazers let this sh!t fly the need to sell the team.

    Make a stand G-Boys!

And put d!ckhead Chucky back in the ROH where he belongs.

  34. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

    Great rant, Joe.

Tucker Carlson interviewed Brett Favre and he some very good things to say about Sapp. Maybe Joe has a business reason to get Fox Nation now 😉

  36. BigMacAttack Says:

Joe you 💯💯💯 on point here! It’s complete garbage, but I’d bet money that the Glazers were notified and signed off on this canceling move.

  37. mark2001 Says:

    Hey…. whatever. Just win, baby.

  38. George Says:

Joe, what is your source? NFL network does not detail schedule on its website. Not on cable menu. Where sis you find this out?

  39. HC Grover Says:

    failed cancel culture

  40. westernbuc Says:

Anyone surprised by this is an idiot, and anyone who tried to justify it is responsible for it.

All the idiots who rolled their eyes when we said this was an injustice, well, now you see why we said it was an injustice. Our reactionary corporate media, in an effort to be woke, erased not only Gruden, but his entire team. Many of which were great Black American men. Good job people, are you happy now?

All of society’s ills can be traced to the eye-rollers, the people who “don’t see what the big deal is” while our kids are forced to wear a mask at school indefinitely or people are forced to choose between their livelihood or a experimental drug. At the center of every disaster in human history, there lies you, pushing it along with your eye rolling and exasperated sighs, standing in the way of people fighting back and siding with evil regimes.

  41. sasquatch Says:

What woke whackjob is in charge of the programming. Gruden said some bad words and maybe he’s a jackass, currently on the NFL enemies list, but ferkreissake, this is about the game, not all the other horseshyte.

  42. Goatfarmer Says:

Gruden is going to destroy Goodell. His lawsuit should be the end of a number of hypocrites.

  43. Goatfarmer Says:

PS – you can still find the 2002 Bucs on YouTube.

  44. kyle Says:

who cares.. i was at the game in san diego!! cant erase my memory

  45. Joe Says:

    George:

Joe went to record it. Wasn’t there. Joe checked at midnight, 1 am and 2 am. NFL Network jumped right over it.

  46. Joe Says:

Joe you 💯💯💯 on point here! It’s complete garbage, but I’d bet money that the Glazers were notified and signed off on this canceling move.

Team Glazer owns 1/32 of the NFL Network.

  47. Aaron Says:

All y’all Shady even you Joe the rafts but is football that’s where you put your hands on someone and specially not a woman Sad Sapp come on

  48. David Says:

All part of the BS that is the left-wing in this country. The entire cancel culture/woke crowd stems from them. It’s appalling and disgusting. I don’t care what a player or coach has done- from Chucky to Sapp to Ty Cobb to Pete Rose to Barry Bonds in baseball, it doesn’t matter. They are still part of the sports history. You do not erase it. It’s asinine.
Hell, Lawrence Taylor is regarded as one of the top defensive players to ever play the game. Why haven’t they canceled him? The guy was doing cocaine before games and sometimes at halftime. Somehow that performance enhancer for a psycho linebacker is overlooked. I don’t care, I’m not saying cancel him, I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy. It’s never ending

  49. Pewter Power Says:

Yep this has more to do with about to destroy the nfl than it does the Bucs

  50. James in Memphis Says:

Politically incorrect? Is that what you think of racially motivated remarks said by a coach who once represented this team and who we had given the most high honor to? Is that what you think about the feelings of the people he offended? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever read on this site. There isn’t a person on this earth who knows this team better than I do and I’m glad that they didn’t show it. It would have been embarrassing sitting there watching someone lie and put on a front pretending to care about people when we now know his true feelings. For you to try and excuse what he said or to minimize it is totally unprofessional and unbecoming of anything the NFL or the Buccaneers organization should stand for. I’m sure that they both would strenuously object to this post.

He is FAR from the only one who has said things like that.
In fact I remember a time when it was the norm.
    Guys being guys.

Just don’t forget, the things he said were in a PRIVATE email and if you think that being severely punished for your own PRIVATE conversations is justified ….. then you’re living in the wrong country.

James, your comment reads like it came out of the Bucs PR department.

  54. Buczilla Says:

I agree Joes! The wheel of karma is forever turning and this canceling nonsense will eventually bite these lowlifes in the a$$. Gruden said mean things. Who hasn’t? His former players stuck up for him, so good enough for me.I hope he torches the nfl with his lawsuit and forces the Glazers to put his name back up. Sapp did wrong, but punishing the fans for it is asinine. Luckily I have a dvd commemorating our first super bowl.

It’s not let’s cut every video of Gruden. It’s maybe this video, is a little too gross in light of what gruden and his brother were emailing back in forth.
