Tom Brady Lets It Be Known The Season Already Started

June 17th, 2022

Intensity.

While Mike Evans sort of shrugged his shoulders last week when asked what he thought of the schedule and confessed he didn’t care two flips about it, his quarterback expressed different feelings.

The Bucs open at the Cowboys, then it’s at the slimy Saints followed by home games against the Packers and the Chiefs. Pretty steep climb for the first month of the year. And Tom Brady knows it.

That’s why Brady, when asked about developing chemistry with Russell Gage, who has been sidelined with a mysterious injury, Brady stressed that time is short, even though the full team doesn’t report until July 26. Every receiver best be razor-sharp in a hurry, Brady noted.

“We’re challenged right out of the box this year,” Brady said. “We’ve got really good teams [on our schedule]. We’ve got to have a great training camp. We know when training camp is.

“We know we’ve got six weeks of training camp, but I feel like it starts [now]. Obviously, the season has already started – you are competing every day out there. You’re either getting better or you’re getting worse. You’re not going out there just to break a sweat, you are going out there to get things done.”

Think Brady was intense when he spoke those words in the first week of June? Imagine if you are in the huddle with Brady during underwear football. He’s going to be way more intense.

Joe has a hunch this was a message Brady sent, sort of a Bobby Knight/Bill Parcells stunt, fired indirectly to the younger receivers and backups: No one better show up for training camp out of shape like Tyler Johnson did last year.

The last thing a backup receiver wants to do is p!ss off Tom Brady. Just ask Justin Watson how that turned out.

Didn’t Justin Watson land with the Chiefs?

Dude, Justin Watson had knee surgery last July and was supposed to miss 4 or 5 months, but didn’t get activated until the end of last season. Evans shrugged off the inference that the schedule being “tougher” and replied as if whomever he lines up against or how good they’re supposed to be it doesn’t matter he’s competing to WIN. Just a little bit of spin here
