Chris Godwin No. 62

June 17th, 2022

Pro Bowl receiver Chris Godwin.

This one is painful for Joe.

Chris Godwin was just starting to come into his own as an elite receiver when he blew up his knee against the slimy Saints in December and was lost for the season. Did it cost the Bucs a Super Bowl title? It sure didn’t help.

Godwin’s unclear status for 2022, didn’t stop prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports from giving Godwin his deserved props. In his annual top 100 players list, Prisco knights Godwin as 62nd-best in the league.

He was having his best season when he suffered a torn ACL in Week 14. He had 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns when he went down. Godwin, who signed a three-year deal this offseason, is expected to be back early this season.

Yes, “expected.” But that’s not a sure thing. Former Bucs defensive tackle and current BSPN talking head Booger McFarland believes Godwin won’t return until after Thanksgiving. We shall see.

What concerns Joe is if and when Godwin gets the green light to be activated, will he be 100 percent?

Knew it was a joke when they put Evans at 73.

  2. Vance Says:

Season is riding on that knee. I don’t care how much “TRUST” ol Joe thinks Brady has in Evans. Brady rode Grayson in the jets game. What about Perriman
In the Bills game. Let’s be honest here. Godwin is the #1 why the he’ll is Joe writing about Edelman teasers.

  3. BucsfanFred Says:

I wasn’t aware that Dr Booger had a medical degree and was actively involved with Godwin’s rehab.
Well I guess if the good Dr says so..,…

  4. Buc4evr Says:

We need to sign Julio as insurance. Especially if Gage and Godwin can’t go. The first four games are going to be brutal and our WR’s need to be on their A game. And the answer isn’t Darden…. Lol.

  5. SufferingSince76 Says:

What do the Bucs say is his likely return date?

  6. Allen Lofton Says:

who’s 100% except at the start of the season

We need to sign Julio as insurance.

Julio was good 1st 9 years of his career. I saw a decline in 2020 and 2021.

My guess is the decline continues.

Godwin was clocked at 20mph last week , Grayson let it slip .. he’ll be ready in September. The media loves suspense

    GoBucs!

  9. D-Rok Says:

20mph has got to be near top-speed and near full effort. Not sure about cutting on that knee, but hearing Godwin ran that fast has got to mean his rehab is doing well. I am optimistic he’ll be his old self by mid-season. I sure hope he is, the Bucs need him and D-Rok surely wants him.

And don’t call me Shirley. 😉

  10. Goatfarmer Says:

Real geniuses of Pasco County post here. Edelman and Julio? Why not Red Grange and Jim Thorpe? Good god. Thankfully Jason Licht runs the show.

  11. SlyPirate Says:

Godwin will win comeback player of the year.

    +1000 is a lock.

  12. firethecannons Says:

how does booger know anything at all accurate about Godwin and why trust anything he says–what about cyril grayson saying he was 20mph a while ago–I believe that.

  13. Jack Skipper Says:

No one is ever 100% after an ACL. You hope your quads are thick enough to brace it, but it makes you gunshy. I hope for his sake he recovers fully because he’s a good, humble superstar and not a loud-mouthed A hole like AB who woulda seen more justice than CG getting one of these ouchies

  14. PewterStiffArm Says:

Has anyone thought about the possibility that the Saints took out Godwin because we took out Jameis. You watch the replay of the tackle and he could have wrapped Godwin up without his helmet down, I wouldn’t put it past that defensive back. I know that is how they tackle larger players, but Godwin was pretty much blindsided. Stinking Saints.

  15. Mike C Says:

He will be fresh for the late season push.

  16. Goodbuc'nlife Says:

Someone mentioned signing Julio. Are you kidding me!?!? That’s blasphemous. It’s like signing Michael Thomas, or Roddy White, or like Cam Newton. Who on God’s green earth would even conceive the thought let alone pull the trigger on that type deal? I looked at Jameis signing with the Slimmy Saints the same way. Just weird and no way do I want another star, albeit washed up star from a rival on my BUCS squad. Go BUCS!!!!!

  17. GOB Says:

Yeah julio jones is a shadow. He’d be about as much use as Richard Sherman was last year. Gage must give a very significant contribution. The passing game hinges on it. Gage will need to fill that AB/Godwin role. I’m telling ya, anything you get from Godwin and Gronk, is gravy. 70 catches for the both of them would be optimistic. We’ll know early on. Brady will be pissy winning 20-17.
