One Former Bucs Star Gives Props To Another

June 23rd, 2022

Happy for another former Bucs DT.

Joe thinks it is cool when one former Bucs star gives a very public bro-hug to another former Bucs star, even though one replaced the other.

And the one here that was replaced, Gerald McCoy (whose six Pro Bowl nominations are as many as Lee Roy Selmon), was giving Ndamukong Suh mad respect.

GMC continued his next career audition when he co-hosted “Late Hits” earlier this week with Alex Marvez, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio. There, GMC showed Suh major love and suggested the perfect fit for Suh now that the Bucs are in Suh’s rear view mirror is the Raiders, GMC’s team last year.

Joe is sad to see Suh go because Joe is convinced that Suh gave the Bucs a nasty edge that every defense needs. Yeah, it always comes down to money, so let’s hope Akiem Hicks balls out and makes folks (temporarily) forget Suh.

Some of GMC’s words are in the SiriusXM Radio audio below.

    No.

  2. Robert Says:

Gerald McCoy……..one of the main reasons our previous teams were so soft.

would be glad to never hear his name again on here.

  3. Kyle Says:

    Gerald who?

  4. BucsNoles Says:

IF we cant sign Gronk, we should take a chance to see if we could resign Suh to a cap friendly deal
    LFG

  5. BucsfanFred Says:

    I’ll miss suh.

  6. SOEbuc Says:

McCoy speaks on it makes me feel Suh has gotten softer lol.

  7. emo Says:

Notice how he shows his respect for Suh AFTER Suh leaves

  8. DoooshLaRue Says:

    The Soft One has spoken….

Again and again and again and again and again……

  9. Steven007 Says:

Old JBF fossil trollmax used to rail on about McCoy’s great first step to nowhere. He was only partly right. McCoy had a good number of sacks on a garbage defense on a garbage team. Never lived up to the hype but not nearly as bad as some make him out to be. His perceived softness, which he certainly did not go out of his way to disprove, was his seal of fate here. Particularly after Sapp, who was the anti McCoy. Then Suh came along and did his best Sapp imitation with far better results.

  10. Cho Says:

Man, the GMC disrespect is tough. I remember being a kid and impatiently waiting for Sunday to watch the Bucs. And they would always lose, getting beat by 20, 30 pretty regularly. All those Sundays, LVD and GMC left their hearts on the field, and they were basically the only two guys (V-Jax, Evans, Doug Martin half the time) playing to win. It was a beauty to have at least one player on your team that was top 3 in his position in the NFL. These bandwagon fans already used to winning don’t know where we come from man.

  11. Robert Says:

gmc left his heart on the field, gassed from helping the opponent up.

  12. Steven007 Says:

Robert, if McCoy never helped Ben up what would be your default insult then? Just curious.

  13. Goatfarmer Says:

Geraldine McFail wishes she were half of Suh. Big mistake to let Suh walk. Thereā€™s room for he and Hicks. Cā€™mon, Jason. Letā€™s go.

Meanwhile time for Geraldine to put her PED soaked pacifier back in her mouth and STFU.

  14. JB Says:

What is this Love affair with Geraldine? Worst team leader in team history!

  15. PassingThru Says:

It’s either a marketing move for Suh by McCoy, or somehow the story about Suh signing with the Raiders missed the news cycle.

    I’m going with the former.

  16. firethecannons Says:

why does Suh have to be gone there is no tightend replacement available so spend the money on Suh–I do not think Licht even negotiated with him.

  17. Capece is Kaput Says:

You know news is slow when JBfan has a McCoy article almost every other day. Is Joe just board or is he in love with McCoy? Will the new name of this website by JoeGeraldMcCoyFan? I don’t hate McCoy. He was a good player. Apparently, a nice guy. He just was not good enough to help a bad team get more wins and he was not mean or boisterous like another DT everyone loves. Tampa is a rowdy and angry town. We are Pirates for !%&#!’s sake. That Kimono stunt and that Batman crap. All well in good in the land of cosplay, but in ugly, beat em up, kill everybody football land, not a good look when your team is known as the pastel/pewter foot wipes. Of course McCoy admires Suh. Suh could really be Batman. McCoy is the guy who if it were not for football, would still live in his mom’s basement and dress up as Batman.

  18. teacherman777 Says:

I want Suh and JPP for 2 more years.

  19. Bonim Says:

McCoy didn’t cause the team to suck all by his lonesome ya know?

  20. DoooshLaRue Says:

How about the time Softie was dancing on the sidelines when we were losing?

  21. 1sparkybuc Says:

The people who disrespect former players are the same people who attack Trask like heā€™s the enemy. It makes no sense, but it reveals something about them thatā€™s not quite right. The one and only thing that justifies this kind hatred is lack of effort. If a player quits, he deserves to be attacked.

  22. OBVIOUS Says:

    Doosh, there it is.
Dancing on the sidelines while we were yet again out classed with our nuts kicked up into our throats yet again WAS the last straw for me.

That is when it was More Than clear that at least some of the members of this team didn’t give good gosh damn about the team and ESPECIALLY the fans and Just How Much of an EMBARRASSMENT that Gerald McCoy was.

I didn’t have his back in a large degree But I wasn’t against him either. But after that, after it was CLEAR that the supposed “leader” of our entire defense made out Our Team as a laughing stock~ JOKE, well after the hands in the air waving that he just didn’t care turned my eyes RED! I can guarantee that my blood pressure POPPED the blood right through my eyes as I sat there ENRAGED!

It ALL came crystal clear to me that HE ~HIMSELF was truly the main reason for the Buccaneers having NO HEART! GERALD MCCOY WAS GUILTY OF SCREWING US ALL by MAKING SURE that at the Very Least that the defense had No Heart and No Soul and NO CHANCE for me or any of us as fans AND the ownership.
He was the DEFENSIVE LEADER OF OUR TEAM AND HE WAS CLEARLY CHECKED OUT! It was HIS JOB as THAT LEADER TO LEAD! It became CRYSTAL that he not only DID NOT PUSH his teammates to Excellence, He PERSONALLY DIDN’T GIVE A TINKERS DAMMMMMM.

You party as a REWARD in a NFL PROFESSIONAL GAME! I personally have Never Before and Never Again. Seen ARSE CLOWNERY like that in my life WHILE your opponent is LITERALLY KNOCKING ALL OF YOUR TEETH OUT!

But Not Mr McCoy. O No. He’s a different kind of guy. ON NATIONAL TV, HE WAS INSISTING that teammates actually join him in the I Don’t have respect for myself, the owners that pay me millions of dollars, and of course US Fans who pay ALL the bills. He gave of all the finger in my view.

At the very least he Could and certainly SHOULD HAVE APOLOGIZED for that Embarrassing SHART SHOW!
That IS when he lost me and I got a feeling the other 100 percent that was on the fence about him.
And THAT IS the Truth of the Truth!

  23. GOB Says:

I don’t get Bucs fans hatred of GMC, I thought he was a fine player, on a rotten team. It isn’t his fault he played with dogfood. Good players make other good players look better.

  24. Goatfarmer Says:

ā€œMy bad Ben. My bad Ben.ā€

Iā€™m surprised he didnā€™t hand Ben an ice cream cone.

  25. kyle Says:

Cho, you ancient buc fan, can I school you??? Brad Culpepper was a better player than GMC and he didnt have a thimble full of GMC’s talent.

Definitely appreciate the “New” fans who suffered through the lost decade like the rest of us.

    Go bucs

  26. Mike C Says:

    Facts Kyle

  27. kyle Says:

Mike C.. 25 sacks and close to 200 tackles in 4 years with the buccaneers. He was a gamer, always showed up. He never took plays off and was durable.

GMC always hurt, would disappear for weeks. Love his pro bowls, but they are a sham.. I would rather Judge All pros than pro bowls.

Like I said, GMC had a million times more talent but wasnt as impactful.

  28. Winny Testaverde Says:

Of course he wants Suh anywhere but Tampaā€¦wearing 93ā€¦making McCoy look feeble by comparison. Thereā€™s a reason thereā€™s so much resentment for McCoy by the fansā€¦this just yet another.

  29. SB Says:

    @kyle………..are you friggin serious???
I went to my first bucs game back in 1976 and didn’t miss a home game for 20 years. Brad Culpepper would be GMC’s back up.
GMC has more tackles, almost Twice as many sacks, and the same amount of forced fumbles. GMC made 6 Pro bowls. Culpepper 0.
    Do you even lift bro?

  30. Show Me the TDs Says:

    McCoy…gone, but still sniveling. Sad.

  31. SB Says:

You idgits that don’t like GMC because he is a better person but not the player Warren Sapp was make me SICK!

  32. kyle Says:

SB, its not a stat comparison, just my opinion of watching both teams in different eras. Never impressed with GMC, that’s the end of my argument, you losers can debate… Do you even lift Bra??

  33. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

“… Gerald McCoy (whose six Pro Bowl nominations are as many as Lee Roy Selmon)…”
    .
    .

    Sacrilege.

  34. Crickett Baker Says:

Does hindsight mean you are looking out your ass?

  35. OBVIOUS Says:

As I said, I wasn’t for or against as far as GMC went However supported him and was at least satisfied with him Until he showed his TRUE colors. There was fierce back and forth at the time right here at this very site concerning his commitment, heart, and attitude. I was in the “give the guy a break” club at the time and felt strongly on giving him props. And that would not have changed UNTIL I really started to look at the complaints and watch his performance game by game. The truth is he had a wicked first step. PROBLEM HOWEVER was the Same as JTS. He constantly ran himself out of the play. He actually WAS guilty. You might ask, well JTS does it and I don’t see you coming down on him. WELL THERE’S A BIG GIANT DIFFERENCE! The main difference IS that JTS is a second year guy that will probably fix that. McCoy however NEVER STOPPED screwing that up! THAT’S the difference!

Did GMC play with some lousy Tampa teams? You bet. BUT, BUT, let’s compare GMC to SUH… Let’s do that for a moment because at the time we’ll say, it was a Hot Topic. That topic was LEADERSHIP and the ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE that LEADERSHIP makes and brings to any team much less a Professional NFL team that paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for that skill as well. It is KNOWN that SUH Elevated the men around him. It is also KNOWN that unless you were in “dance class” that McCoy Absolutely DID NOT.

You know what, never mind. You people keep making all the excuses in the world for him you want. The FACT IS he was FIRED and I believe the very First order of firing business just as soon as the contract was signed and the ink wasn’t even dry yet when ACTUAL PROFESSIONAL COACHES WERE BROUGHT INTO THE WORST TEAM IN ALL OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS! GMC was Immediately Fired for a Reason! The reason was his Continued Promotion of a Losing Culture that he thought was just wonderful.

It wasn’t his skill (in total) for Mr. running himself out of the plays like a Undisciplined rookie. No I don’t believe that was it. It WAS however his lack of LEADERSHIP as well as promotion (the face of) of a losing culture.

You people don’t have to go that far back to be reminded that OUR TEAM, THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS were Actually the WORST TEAM IN ALL OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS!

Has Jason done a MASTERFUL JOB of making me and EVERY SINGLE BUCCANEERS FAN NOT PUKE FOR MORE SUNDAYS THAN SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN A LIFETIME?

Let’s be honest, JASON LICHT should have HIS STATUE put up there to see as soon as you walk in the stadium!

Anybody that doesn’t understand MUST BE A BRAND NEW FAN. Glad to have you but I suggest you check out the history so that you can see JUST HOW FAR WE’VE COME..

    GO BUCS!

  36. DoooshLaRue Says:

    1Sparky,

    Your theory is wrong.
I despise Softie 93 but have nothing but hope that Trask will be a good QB when given a chance.

  37. SB Says:

Hey Kyle when was the last time you were selected at the TOP 32 in your profession? In the Entire world or even the country?
    Didn’t think so.
Just keep practicing trying to sell fries with every order or get a grip.

  38. Howard Cosell Says:

OK!! Howard guesses that Joe will continue the GMC posts until HOward chimes in so here goes:
(SJW’s get your replies ready. Howard can see your angry little blood pressure spikes and your mad, little, marginally intelligent fingers furiously typing away lol.

McCoy was the face of the franchise.
He was a coach killer. He burned through like 20 head coaches. Unfortunately Team Glazer at the time built the ENTIRE team (coaches included) AROUND McCoy. McCoy was the highest paid person on the team by a lot. In TG’s defense Howard thinks that they really liked McCoys nice-guy attitude. Since then they’ve learned a hard lesson about football.

As the face of th e franchise and the highest paid human in the building in was GMC’s God-given responsibility to SET THE TONE for the team. A job at which he failed miserably. Not only did he fail but he seemed to laugh off the failure with “It’s not whether you win or lose…etc etc”
News flash: In the NFL IT IS WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE. Just ask Tom Brady.

Brady provided the perfect antithesis to McCoy. Win at all costs. He cannot stand to lose AND AS THE FACE OF THE FRANCHISE HE SETS THE TONE…..CORRECTLY!!

In McCoys defense he is a heck of a nice guy and he had great physical skill set, but honestly, Howard thinks he was lazy, apathetic and maybe just not that smart.

  39. ClwJB Says:

GMC was the biggest one trick pony of all time

Soft as a pillow and always willing to jump the gap not being rushed through

His 3 splash plays per game normally all came before half time and in crunch time he was hiding on the SL with a broken nail, twisted ankle, or jammed finger

Dude is and was a joke his entire career

The end was most telling and fitting – wash out in Carolina while running his fat yap

Then to OAKā€¦.cashed checks and played zip

STFU GMC – no one is interested in your garbage takes

  40. Oneilbuc Says:

Mccoy was a 6 time pro bowler and a first team all pro on bad defenses. Yall always looking for a scapegoat lol šŸ˜† šŸ˜‚. I still will never understand why yall hate every former bucs player so much . But now yall are watching Brady and Gronk making fools out yall and our franchise with their fake retirements. Brady wanted to play in Miami and that’s a proven fact . Gronk who I really wanted to come back told the media I’m going to make them sweat a little before I come back and no body ain’t saying nothing about that but Ira Kaufman I have to give him credit for that. The Patriots and their franchise wouldn’t let the

  41. Oneilbuc Says:

Wouldn’t let them play their fans that way . Maybe that’s why Billchick let Brady walk and Gronk . Our fan base is so weak and with no pride for the team yall begging them to play for the us and they making a fool out of our franchise and fan base. That’s why we haven’t never developed a quarterback and we have the most losses and all of sports.

  42. David Says:

    WOW

The obsession some of you have with McCoy is unbelievable. The team sucked because they went through coach after coach and quarterback after quarterback for a decade. And you want to blame McCoy for all of it. Seriously some of you are pathetic.
Might as well blame LVD and Evansā€¦ They were there for most of it.
Hell, letā€™s trash Derek Brooks while we are it because I know I have seen him help an opponent up off the ground. Oh the horror

  43. DoooshLaRue Says:

I still will never understand why yall hate every former bucs player so much.
    ___________

    Hate every former Bucs player?

    Hyperbole much OneilBuc?

I’ll wait until you look that word up…….

  44. Goatfarmer Says:

OBVIOUS – hell of a rant, man. Normally I canā€™t stay with posts like that, but you got me. And then comes Osqueel with her ā€œyā€™allā€ thing. Stereotype much?

  45. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Hey…….remember….

“Let’s go out and have some fun”

*Quote from one of the most underrated and highly motivational pre-game speeches ever given.

    We lost

  46. westernbuc Says:

I thought Licht did him dirty by not releasing him until after free agency and the draft and fans were for sure too hard on him. Not his fault the team was so poorly managed for his entire career. And comparing him to a GOAT like Sapp was just wrong.

That being said, I just donā€™t care for him as a player. Laughing it up with Brees after the Saints whooped us was infuriating. As Goatfarmer noted, the Big Ben apology mid play was just flat out embarrassing. Dude was way too friendly with opponents for a defensive player.

He always wanted to be liked. He made it known to everyone that he carried the rookies pads during training camp, or he bought snow cones, or that he was mentoring Jameis.

And then he goes to the Panthers, whatever, itā€™s a business. But then for the first time in his career decides to be a tough guy and get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. It was so transparently phony.

Then he goes to the Cowboys and heā€™s just straight up telling the media he signed so he could get into TV when he retires. Then heā€™s popped for PEDs.

And now heā€™s making the media rounds. Maybe weā€™ll get some good information out of him, but I canā€™t imagine ever tuning in to hear what he has to say.

Which is what we have the Joes for! Consuming bad media so we donā€™t have to

  47. RustyRhinos Says:

I find it laughable at how Bent out of shape McCoy was about the real 93 who stepped into Tampa Bays DLine and made his presence felt, seen and heard. How may times did we ever see McCoy rage and beatdown any QB? Could or would have McCoy have ravaged Rodgers like we watch Suh do twice on our way to the Super Bowl? Has McCoy ever ravaged any QB all game long? He would Ravage a Batman movie line. But a NFL Oline, on the way to the QB. No I never seen that happen. How many NFL games did McCoy actually play after he left the Buccaneers, 1 in 2021 for the Raiders. I would bet money Suh plays for whoever he signs with all of their games. McCoy is still talking the talk, and has never wal3kd the walk Suh did his entire career. McCoy was the team leader on Bad teams, he was still the leader. Who I have never seen HIM do just that. LEAD.
