Warren Sapp Coaching At Today’s Practice Adds Crediblity To Ndamukong Suh Report

May 31st, 2022

Less than a week ago, Bucs legend Warren Sapp was adamant that the Bucs will not re-sign Ndamukong Suh.

Today, Sapp is on the field coaching Tampa Bay defensive linemen.

Joe believed Sapp last week because of his connections at One Buc Palace. But now Joe buys what Sapp was selling at a whole additional level after learning that he’s playing D-line coach and Todd Bowles invited him.

Joe is very intrigued that Bowles welcomed Sapp to interact with the impressionable youngsters on his defensive front.

It appears Vita Vea is not attending today’s session while Sapp, of course, is no fan of guys skipping spring practices. Just ask Keyshawn Johnson.

Assuming Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and rookie Logan Hall ever saw Sapp play football — he retired after the 2007 season — what a thrill today must have been for them.

My favorite Buc of all time. Warren Sapp.

    Mouth and all.

He talked shyte and backed it up on game days.

    Go Bucs!!!

  2. UKBuccaneer Says:

Amazing that Sapp is still welcomed by the organisation given his indiscretions, whilst Gru is outcast for his. Not saying either one is right or wrong, it’s just interesting.

  3. Smashsquatch Says:

Suh be gone. No need to sweat it. Bowles needs more speed and less beef up front. Sapp was a great Buc. Loved watching him harass QBs!

  4. GOB Says:

Joe, you say intrigued, I say mortified. Sapp is a piece of excrement.

  5. Ash Says:

Yup seemed early on that they moved on from suh with licht’s response when asked early on you could see the writing on the wall probably a combination of him wanting to much and not getting a ton of pass rush and age. I think they still sign a vet but it won’t be at suhs asking price.

  6. geno711 Says:

Loved Sapp as a player for the Bucs.
Brooks, Sapp and Lynch. The three different level leaders in their own unique ways.

  7. Steven007 Says:

GOB, I think it can be agreed that Sapp is a Hall of Fame player but not a Hall of Fame human being. That said, he knows how to play the defensive line. I really don’t think he’s coaching the rookies up on how to live their life off the field.

  8. Robert Says:

dont shoot the messenger. he may be a POS person, but he was the best DT I’ve ever seen.

  9. Goatfarmer Says:

    GOB, holier than thou much?

  10. Buccos Says:

I met Sapp before and he was very nice. I go by my interactions with people and not what other people say about them. Sapp was right there with Aaron Donald as the greatest DT’s of the modern era.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Sapp … ‘We got Vita Vea. He’s big enough to hold two A-gaps.’

That’s horsepuckey. Vea’s availability has been 50% since becoming a Buc for starters, so I’d say he’s big enough AND available enough to hold roughly half an A-gap. Obviously Sapp doesn’t like Suh; no surprise there. But his OPINION on whether Suh will re-sign for 2023 is worth nada IMO.

  12. GOB Says:

Steven, he absolutely belongs in the HOF, but is a cretin off the field. I’ve never seen him on a practice field. Just because the guy was a dominant player, doesn’t mean he can coach. Hopefully it’s a one day thing. Simply having him there, is an endorsement of the person. Young people are impressionable. Here’s the message. You can act however you like off the field, and the bucs will welcome you with open arms. Heck, you might even be able to coach young guys, if you aren’t in prison. Maybe GOB is being a bit dramatic, but you get the point.

  13. GOB Says:

GF, not holier than thou, just a hell of a lot holier than that guy.

  14. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Sapp, in his heyday, was probably an Idol to some of our rookies.
I like the idea of him coaching.
As far as his opinions on Suh goes, I have to ask myself, are we better with or w/o Suh ?
I think we are a better defense with Suh, especially against the run.

  15. SB~LV Says:

    Love Sapp
    I’m a “Cane” from the 60’s
Won’t want to spend a day fishing with 99 however

  16. Dooley Says:

If Coach Bowles saw it appropriate enough to not only let Sapp watch OTAs but communicate w/his players then that’s good enough to me. Seems like a smart enough guy to get Sapp in there to offer his professional opinions and for all we know he’s up front with the wrong he’s done in the past & relaying that to these young men as a lesson to learn, We’d never fully know, because we are all on the outside looking in.

  17. GOB Says:

Suh not being here is about cash, plain and simple. He simply isn’t worth what he’s asking. It’s not about the cap, but real dollars. No business is going to pay someone millions of dollars more than they are worth. The bucs could get Akiem Hicks and Sheldon Richardson both for the money Suh is asking.
Many here don’t want to admit that Suh’s play has declined steadily for three years in a row. The number of double teams he faces has also declined steadily. Last year, he wasn’t double hardly at all. All teams have a cash budget. The cap is irrelevant. If they wanted to give him the real money, they could figure out the cap implications. The bucs aren’t going to pay a player significantly more than his production justifies. I applaud them for it.

  18. K2 Says:

In the past, Sapp has help the Bucs analyze and workout players pre-draft…so it’s not totally a first.

  19. Goatfarmer Says:

GOB – LOL. That was good.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

    Bring back Suh.

  21. ben Says:

Mr. Sapp made the other team look like boys . Remember him walking thru the other team’s huddle acting like this is my field .. great Buc !!

  22. BUCman Says:

Agree Sapp was a great player but I don’t like him being around our young players. Sets a bad example as a human being.

  23. Steven007 Says:

    Hicks in the house.

  24. SlyPirate Says:

    SAPP LOVES THE BUCS!!!

Whatever you think of the person, he has a high football IQ and knows the DL craft better than anyone. Sapp coaching up Logan Hall and the defensive line is a great thing.

  25. Bucthis Says:

“Buccaneers add Akiem Hicks, which likely closes the door on Ndamukong Smh“

  26. bucfan34 Says:

    Sign 93

  27. Stone crab sam Says:

    Sign 93

  28. Buczilla Says:

Can you imagine Sapp in his prime playing with Vita?!? That would be hilariously fun to watch.

  29. Red86 Says:

I miss those glory days of the old Bucs. I’ll never forget the put a jersey on threat to the Green Bay coach. My kind of player. 🙂

  30. SufferingSince76 Says:

Sapp is loved by Bucs fans because of his onfield play and personality. If we start requiring stellar moral character, we’ll be upset with half the league. The Glazers wouldn’t allow him to be there if they thought he’d be detrimental to the team. Still bummed about Suh not coming back. I’m assuming Tom’s on board with it, if that’s the case.

  31. SteveK Says:

    1987,

    Sapp and Alstott for me.

Sapp was a bad dude, and Alstott was a beast.

Also a big Vita fan. I believe he’s going to continue to get better.

  32. Bob Buc Says:

Great…as long as he’s not coaching birth control and how to interact with fans, we’re good.

  33. SOEbuc Says:

Very good players can be very bad coaches. Sapp showing youngsters how to work in the heat. Sounds awesome.

  34. BringBucsBack Says:

UKBuccaneers, yep, it is interesting; one guy did (does) bad things and one guy said bad things. Entirely commensurate! It’s called duplicity and it is very interesting, indeed.

  35. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Bucs just signed Hicks from the Bears ! So that’s the nail in the coffin for Suh . As far as Sapp at practice , what’s wrong with that ? He is one of the top 3 DTs of all time ! He knows how to coach and give players tips on their technique for darn sure . I mean Simeon Rice has been a fixture around 1Buc for years and NOBODY said anything bad about that ! If a HOF player is willing to spend his time with the young guys at practice what’s the harm in that ? I’m sure he will tell it like it is if he sees something wrong or something good from a player. Man some of you guys just have this need to be negative about everything. Be happy with the Bucs your watching now , cuz I haven’t missed a game since I started watching in 97 when I was 15 years old. I watched the dynasty defense from 97 to 07 and I watched (or listened on black out games) through the Raheem Morris days to the Greg Schiano disaster. I watched the wasted talent and bad coaches and now that we’re back on top , you have something to complain about ? You obviously didn’t watch or listen to the Bucs from 2008 to 2018 !! Go Bucs

  36. Mike Johnson Says:

Coach up them Rooks Sapp. Always has been my favorite Buc. I like the fact long ago when asked about his personal life by a reporter, Sapp replied, I ain’t no GD Angel. None of us are Warren.

  37. Mark Walmsley Says:

Put sap on the coaching staff

  38. David Says:

GOB And some others… Who cares? It is about football not off the field crap. And Sapp is one of the best DTs the game is ever seen.

  39. Bucs Win Says:

So what he can be a douche from time to time, Y’all make it sound like Sapp murdered his ex-wife and a waiter for or something. Judge not lest you be Judged snowflakes.

  40. Lance Coffman Says:

Sapp was douche canoe to fans and getting autographs when he played.
Now hes broke and he wants us fans back, no thanks

  41. Knuck if you Buc Says:

What’s wrong with him off the field? All he does it chill and fish

  42. MRRR Says:

We are wise for not giving Suh the money. You cannot overpay for someone who’s past their prime. It’s sad but it’s business.

  43. 76BucsFan Says:

UKbuccaneer …. Gtfohwtbs gruden is supposed to be a leader of men and called out the commissioner. He’s done. Never mind that team was all Dungy.

  44. lambchop Says:

    @UKBuccaneer,

Gruden bad mouthed the Glazer(s). Huge difference between Sapp and Gruden in that regards. If someone talked shyte about you behind your back and you found out, would you welcome them back with open arms?
