“We Haven’t Had That Kind Of Athlete Inside In A While”

May 31st, 2022

Bucs rookie defensive lineman Logan Hall.

Rookie Logan Hall is impressing coaches through a month of training, conditioning and practices at One Buc Palace.

The rookie chosen atop Round 2 of last month’s draft is getting lessons in the nuances of the Tampa Bay defense, which include dealing with double teams NFL-style.

“We like the athleticism,” heac coach Todd Bowles said today. “He’s learning to play with his pads lower, you know, taking on double teams and understanding when to drop his knee and not just bouncing up rushing the passer. But he’s a very good athlete. We haven’t had that kind of athlete inside in a while since we’ve been here. So we just look forward to him getting better and better scheme-wise and then taking advantage of his athleticism.”

Joe was intruigued by Bowles focusing on Hall being the Bucs’ best athlete as his position in years. First-round pick Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (2021) also trained and played a bit inside.

The definition of Athlete is: A person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise.

    I would hope….making millions….that all our players are athletes….

I guess what they are saying is that Hall’s athletic skills go far beyond what the position normally requires.

  2. Dooley Says:

Hall & JTS might overlap filling in at other spots, but one was drafted to play OLB and the other was drafted to exclusively fill-in on the interior of the DL. Bowles wasn’t vaguely or specifically comparing the two. Still, I’m hoping(and watching) to see if Logan Hall can be our Cam Heyward

  3. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Three young studs as pass rushers with Vita, Joe Tryon and Hall should provide us years with sacks. Only wish Suh could help these young guys.

    Next Aaron Donald??

  6. BUC CHEEKS Says:

    We just signed HICKS!!!!!!

    Bye Suh

  8. SB~LV Says:

Quite an endorsement for a rookie

  9. SlyPirate Says:

Hall is slightly faster than JJ Watt (40), but JJ is significantly stronger (37 reps vs 25).

JJ had 5.5 sacks as a rookie. I’m expecting similar stacks (6) for Hall.

  10. Biff Barker Says:

Hall will eventually replace JTS on the outside. Zero hope for the headless chicken.

  11. sasquatch Says:

Hall and JTS play different positions… which doesn’t mean they won’t flip flop to create different looks… But in base defense, Hall is a 3-4 DE (which is more like a DT), and JTS is a 3-4 OLB (more like a hybrid LB/DE). JTS is a different athlete, more of an edge player and Hall is an inside player who could shift to an edge player situationally. They’re not comparable body types or playing styles really. Can we stop confusing these things please? No, Hall isn’t eventually a replacement for JTS. That’s phouecking retarded.

  12. Walter Says:

So for now, what’s our front 7 look like?

    David White

    Tryon Hicks Vea Ghoulston Barrett

  13. Goatfarmer Says:

    Hicks? HICKS?!?!?!

    Cool. Still want Suuuuuuhhhh.

The Bucs will be forced to move Hall or get somebody sooner than later. Defending or expecting anything from JTS is a view from the short bus.

  15. sasquatch Says:

    Don’t understand the JTS hate.

  16. SufferingSince76 Says:

I sure hope he turns out to be as good as he’s being hyped to be.

  17. Crickett Baker Says:

The way that the draft room cheered when they got JTS sure makes me think he has something–in fact, a LOT!

  18. kaimaru Says:

I see that a lot of people have JTS as a bust when he only started 6 game. He had 3 sacks, 10 QBHits, and 5 TFL with limited snaps when JPP was playing. Yup, sounds like a total bust.

  19. steele Says:

We still don’t know if JTS is or is not a bust. He was raw and technically lacking coming out of college and still is. Completely inconsistent in his limited snaps. Pray for a yr 2 jump.

  20. sasquatch Says:

People jump to conclusions and start throwing bust talk around if a rookie doesn’t blow up in year one. It’s ludicrous. There’s no reason to think JTS won’t make a significant jump this year. The bust talk is coming from people with unreasonable expectations.

  21. David Says:

Hall, Vea, JTS…. Could be the makings of a very good D line for many years

  22. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Agree that a lot of people jump to conclusions way too fast especially with the rookies ! I mean , I hear everyone saying resign Suh , but they don’t want to give the young guys a chance to play ? Don’t you think that Bowels or JL would be on the phone trying to get a great player if they didn’t think they have them already ? I’ve been a Bucs fan my entire life and I also know that we have a lot of ignorant fan’s that think they know better than the people getting paid millions to do their jobs. A lot of you look for anything to b!tch about and when you’re proven wrong you act like you were always for it . Then you find another thing to b!tch about. It’s endless stupidity. Be happy we are in the position to win another Super Bowl. Go Bucs

  23. ArkansasBuc Says:

How long did people call shaq a bust till he exploded for us? I know he was drafted lower then jts but I feel its a close enough comparison. Don’t count the kid out yet some of them are late bloomers

  24. Joe Says:

How long did people call shaq a bust till he exploded for us?

No one? Guy was an undrafted free agent. Just making an NFL roster is an accomplishment.

“Busts,” at least in common vernacular, is when a guy is a first or second round draft pick and turns out totally worthless.

  25. sasquatch Says:

Some people have no phouecking clue what they’re talking about and should know better than to comment on a public thread.
