Rob Gronkowski Says He Only Needs A Few Days To Get In Football Shape

May 3rd, 2022

Has timetable in mind.

So in-between foot-rubbing Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski hosting kids TV shows, hopping on Jimmy Kimmel Live and hosting his “Gronk Beach” party at the trendy Encore Beach Club at the swanky Wynn Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, we see photos and video clips of Gronk working out.

Gronk wants to stay in some sort of shape, if he decides to return to football. Joe has a strong hunch that Gronk wants to get out of training camp and pull a Michael Strahan, who showed up just after training camp ended with the Giants and led the team to a Super Bowl championship.

If that is the case, what kind of shape would Gronk would be in early in the season? Well, per Gronk, he only needs a short period of time.

While promoting his co-hosting of the “Kids Choice Awards” on Nickelodeon, Gronk he can be prepared to rock and roll for the NFL season fairly in matter of days. His comments were  fully buried in a New York Post story by Jaclyn Hendricks,

“I feel like I can get ready at any time for football, like it’ll take me two weeks only, so, I’m not really worried about it,” he said. “It’s just cool just to be doing other things and enjoying them.”

In theory, that means Gronk could show up in late August and be ready for Week 1.

However, Joe remembers when Gronk first came here in 2020, then-Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians ran Gronk off the practice field for being out of shape, hollering, “He’s in New England shape; he’s not in Florida shape!”

And in the first couple of games Gronk looked out of shape and sluggish. But as the season grew longer Gronk got better and played like the old Gronk in the Super Bowl.

Of course, all that happened after taking off the entire 2019 season. Gronk played last season and caught 55 balls in 12 games. So maybe he can be ready on very short notice this fall.

There is football shape and than there is football shape. Flip a coin

  2. SB~LV Says:

    lol..

  3. gobucs10 Says:

    gronks fine. hell be back

  4. Thadeus Says:

Julian sign yet ? Thought that was a stipulation LOL

  5. Alanbucsfan Says:

Bucs can sign Gronk, Suh and Edelman, maybe even JPP.
Reworking/extending D Smith, L David, D White contracts would free up around $15 million. They currently have a tad under $13 million cap space.
They’ll probably cut Pinion as well – another $2-$3 million.

  6. SufferingSince76 Says:

Gronk stays in good shape. When we see him working out more than he’s partying, we’ll know the time will be near.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Not only is Gronk hopping on Jimmy Kimmel Live, he’s hopping on Camille Kostek most every night…..now I don’t know about you….but that would keep TBBF in shape…..

  8. Mike Says:

He’s definitely looking and sounding like a man who is preparing to come back for another season, but just waiting as long as he can before signing.

  9. Mort Says:

Just being a vet skipping OTAs, mini camp and potentially some training camp. Nothing to see here. You think he will bail on his dude TB12? No way.

  10. buccaroooooooo Says:

can we please leave the gronk stories alone jesus christ

  11. dls5492 Says:

Gronk is synonymous with having a good time.

  12. Joe Says:

can we please leave the gronk stories alone jesus christ

Sure. Soon as he announces his plans for the fall.

  13. Pepsi Says:

If you are weird like I am and pay attention to Gronk and Camille’s instagram just to get clues on Gronk, you may have noticed some changes to Gronk body since the end of last year. He thinned you a pretty good amount to the point where I was concerned football was done. But over the last 4-5 weeks he’s steadily added size back onto his frame. I’d say today he’s pretty damn close to his ideal TE weight.. that makes me think he’s coming back for sure

  14. buccaroooooooo Says:

he did sign Julian Edelman and boom hes back

  15. New England Patriots Fan Says:

We all know Gronk is returning, he is currently maximizing his off the field income via hosting award shows, night time interviews, paid Vegas appearances, night club stuff, YT social media promotional stuff, and selling Gronk related sponsorship.

If Gronk wasn’t returning I dont think Tom would return. Gronk is a player whom is in his last year of his football career he’s been beat up since College, and he is the most productive weapon in the NFL since 2010-2022, on a per game basis. They only thing that lowers his total numbers availability as Tom has put Gronk into many high risk positions to catch his balls, resulting in arms, knees, back, lung, and head injuries.

Let the man heal, and return for the games his can play. If I was Gronk I wouldn’t even be signing for the first half of the season, his value is closing out the year and playoffs, he cant play a 20 game playoff run year.

  16. Robert Says:

he was very slow his first 1/2 year. concern about him not being in shape is valid.

  17. GOB Says:

Finding a way to insure he’s healthy for the playoffs could mean the difference between Superbowl, or early exit. Unfortunately it’s not easy. I agree with NEPF, see you in week 10 gronkie

  18. BucBrady Says:

Yeahhhh–when he came out of retirement it took a lot longer that 2 weeks for him to get back in football shape.

  19. Dew Says:

    LEAVE GRONK ALONE

  20. Howard Cosell Says:

YOURE LUCKY HE’S EVEN PERFORMING FOR YOU B*****DS!

  21. Howard Cosell Says:

    Lol…That said…
What Gronk is doing is playing the media just simply for the reason of continuing to build his brand……which looks to have a ton of momentum

  22. Daryl Green Says:

Rob G. just having a good ole time playing with the media.
Take your time little homie. Yo!! Licht get that Suh thing done👊🏾

  23. SlyPirate Says:

Daryl Green … I was with you until “little homie”. Gronk is gigantic. It’s actually shocking how big he is.

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

Bye Gronk. You tryin to hold the Bucs hostage. Sayin you won’t play unless we sign Edelman. What a croc. But who knows? Bucs with their Brady fetish might just go for it.

  25. HC Grover Says:

    Good ole Gronk.

  26. Aaron Says:

He just probably didn’t get paid to fight the rock lol

  27. Biff Barker Says:

You get into football shape by playing football. Gronk will have a veterans offseason regardless.

I’m thinking the Bucs may float a story about what a great camp Otten is having to move things along.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

    Hall of Famer!

  29. David Says:

You could totally see how he looked most of last year versus most of the first part of the Super Bowl year. It took him longer than two weeks to get in shape. He needs to let them know if he is returning (I kind of assume they already know) and be there for training camp

  30. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

I gotta say, it sure is fun to see Pats fans all PO’d.

  31. PassingThru Says:

Gronk has a long injury history, I don’t mind him staying off the field during the offseason. He looked bad by Gronk standards early in 2020 as his body was in cannabis-shape, not football shape. He looked fine in early 2021, except after he took a nasty hit during the Rams game. The physical damage was from a punishing hit, not because he was in poor shape.

  32. Bucs Guy Says:

Unless he’s already in football shape, he isn’t getting there in one week. 3-4 weeks is more likely.

  33. Listnfrmafar Says:

How can you compare sitting out an entire season versus a short off season? Ya think Derrick Henry isn’t in football shape?

  34. Bucsfan13 Says:

I love Gronk, but could someone explain to me why Gronk is always a no show against the Saints and Rams?

  35. Bucsfan13 Says:

@GOB You seem to be a pretty knowledgeable guy. Could you explain why this team struggles against the Saints and Rams? This issue predates Brady. Now that Winston is with the Saints, it’s like he gave them our playbook. Our struggles are magnified.

  36. Daryl Green Says:

🤣😂 I hear you Sly P. I’m older them him, he will always be the little homie. L.A. thing.🤙🏾👊🏾

  37. Eddie Marz Says:

My take, he doesn’t what to play. He still might come back, but I wouldn’t expect much from him. Retire and get it over with. GOBUCS!

  38. cmurda Says:

@Bucfan13. It’s because you happened to name 2 of the 3 most elite defenses in the NFL. Simple as that Lovie.

  39. #Chiefs2023 Says:

Gronk acts like a thirsty broad…just like Brady ..league need to look into that Dolphins deal that fell apart after the coach got fired. No coincidence BA left and Brady comes back. I want to see the new coach succeed but not if Gronk and Brady on the team 🤔

  40. Scooter Says:

@ TampaBayBucFan: Get ur mind out of the gutter.
