Getting The Most Out Of Logan Hall

May 10th, 2022

Rookie defensive lineman Logan Hall.

Interesting analysis on how the Bucs may be able to get the most juice out of rookie Logan Hall and try to get back to the Super Bowl in what is likely Tom Brady’s last season with Tampa Bay.

Conor Orr of SI.com says Hall plays more like a pass rusher inside than a defensive tackle, though he can play the run. So since Hall likes to pass rush inside, Orr believes the Bucs need to be creative with how they run stunts on the defensive front.

The Buccaneers thrive on free off-ball linebackers, which is easy to do when you have Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea. Hall is going to be a really fun complement to Vea, and approaches his game more like a pure pass rusher despite tending to rush inside. If the Buccaneers can isolate some guards and centers for Hall to attack—which shouldn’t be hard given their personnel—this can be an immediate high upside pick.

Joe has always claimed one of the best assistants on the Bucs’ staff is current defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers. Will Rodgers, now that he is a co-defensive coordinator, be pulled away too much with his new responsibilities? Will that dilute his coaching impact on Hall?

If Hall really is that good at rushing the passer from the inside, then yeah, it would be very smart of Rodgers to try to isolate Hall on guards. It sure would help if Vita Vea is in better condition so he can play more than 40 snaps a game.

Like the way this guy thinks. Now all we need to do is re-sign Suh.

Remember when Suh mentored Will Gholston? Gholston got a lot better. Hopefully all the talk of Suh not being back is just posturing by the Bucs to get him back at a reasonable price. If not, it’s Big Will’s time to mentor.

    Agree with DR,
YOU know what you are getting with Suh, this is a team that had a lot of injuries
last year. Suh has defied time and still plays at a pretty good level. HIs ability to be available is amazing for a DT in this league.

  4. TBChucky Says:

Excited for Hall for sure, but we should absolutely bring back Suh this season!

  5. August 1976 Buc Says:

Sideshow Bob is alive and well on the Bucs. Now if he can live up to what Greg Cosell said, the Bucs have a keeper.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  6. Bucsfan4ever Says:

I wish he were a little bigger.

  7. David Says:

We all want Gronkowski and SUH back (and JPP if healthy). They still need to sign all their rookies. Where do they stand with the salary cap? Last I knew they could sign their rookies and Gronk and that’s it. They’ll need something to free up in case they need to sign someone later in the year due to injury

  8. SteveK Says:

I’m ready for the onslaught of free agent veterans they want to join the team. Gronk, Suh, JPP, another CB?

  9. BillyBucco Says:

Just plug in Bradbury for the CB name.
M Evans can vouch for him

  10. Dooley Says:

I actually hope our defense plays less snaps, more 3 & outs would be terrific.

  11. Buc4evr Says:

I concerned that Hall isn’t going to be able to stand up to a good O-line and will struggle stopping the run. If the Bucs don’t re-sign Suh, think we are going to struggle on the D-line. As it is, I am not at all sold on JTS being able to hold the edge and adding Hall on the other side may make the D line even weaker.

  12. Buccos Says:

I vote for Bradberry also. We need him even more than Suh right now. Make it happen Mr. Licht!

  13. geno711 Says:

Agree that Suh took a lot of valuable snaps that gave our LB’s the ability to make plays in the run game. We could be missing that this year. Maybe some teams will actually try to run against us on 3rd down and 1 yard to go instead of passing.

  14. Bowles4President Says:

Rookies make me nervous no matter who they are. Hanging with the big boys out the gate ain’t easy.

  15. geno711 Says:

By the way, I prefer Suh back.

But if Suh wants 7 million for one year and Sheldon Richardson who played the same position for Bowles with the New York Jets wants 3 million for 1 year or 6 million for 2 years which guy is more likely to be signed.

  16. Pickgrin Says:

Been seeing quite a few comments since we drafted this guy – worried about him not stopping the run, too small for DT, etc.

First off – the guy is tall and already big at 22 years old – adding 15 lbs to get his weight up near 300 is not going to be very hard to do nor take very long. IF thats what coaches think is best.

More likely – they keep him in the 285-290 range and let him work inside AND out. Which is why they drafted this guy over Wyatt in the first place. He can get pressure from inside like very few DTs can.

Coaches even told us a few months ago they wanted better pass rush ability from the inside line. Then – abracadabra – this guy magically shows up as our 1st draft selection.

    Coincidence? Hardly

  17. Bucamania Says:

Lewis Cine says the Bucs promised to take him at 27… then traded out.

I’ve seen Richardson post some crazy sh!t on social media in the past, I don’t know that’s who you want mentoring the Bucs younger players.
