Logan Ryan Respect And Contract

March 29th, 2022

“Bruce, this guy is special.”

In new veteran safety/cornerback Logan Ryan, the Bucs have a guy granted unique respect at one of his post-Patriots stops.

After earning two rings in New England, Ryan bolted for the money in Tennessee, where he was a versatile cornerback, even blitzing a lot when the Titans changed head coaches and went with Mike Vrabel to lead the team.

Sage JoeBucsFan.com columnist and podcaster Ira Kaufman (with Joe) talked to Vrabel about Ryan at the NFL Owners Meetings in Palm Beach yesterday.

Vrabel reflected that Ryan was one of the rare players he would allow to question defensive game plans and schemes, and Vrabel said he even welcomed if it was from Ryan. Vrabel said Ryan put in such an elite level of preparation and devotion that he earned a respect level that Bucs coaches will appreciate if he brings that to Tampa Bay.

And there is no reason to believe Ryan isn’t the same guy after his solid 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Giants.

Spotrac.com has reported Ryan’s contract and Joe can confirm that Ryan will earn just $1.12 million from the Bucs this season. Why? The Giants are eating about $5.5 million as a result of them cutting him before a bonus kicked in.

The Bucs certainly have a steal on their hands. Ryan is no Andrew Adams.

Is Ryan better than Jordan Whitehead? That’s unclear and likely doubtful.

Joe and Ira unexpectedly had 1-on-1 time with Jets head coach Robert Saleh this morning (Whitehead’s new coach) and Saleh had plenty to say about Whitehead’s film and how the Jets were very committed to paying him top dollar in free agency.

Definitely a steal to get Ryan. If you haven’t watched his presser…..you must.

I was impressed in particular……at one point he was fielding a bunch of questions and he essentially told the press….”hey we have another guy here that’s happy to be here (Shaq Mason)…….and handed it over to him.

What an example of leadership……Ryan’s experience will mean a great deal to our young secondary……loves being here, has a home in Tampa and has consulted regularly with Ronde Barber.

Wow. That is no question a dealio

    Licht is the man!

    LFG!!!!!

  4. Dooley Says:

Logan Ryan is more versatile than Whitehead and more experienced. IDK if its necessarily an “upgrade’ but I wouldnt mind sacrificing some of the physicalty for veteran savy Ryan plays with. Also injects a bit of veteran leadership into a mostly young DB room. We took Johnathan Banks in 2013, I wanted Dez Trufant and/or Logan Ryan

Great presser for sure. Seems like a very cerebral player which should hopefully help with the communication issues we heard about from time to time. He also seems very detailed like Brady, which will be great for the defense.

  6. DEEEMO Says:

We needed a QB for the defense…looks like we got one now! Ryan was a great pick up! LFG!!!

  7. Crickett Baker Says:

TBBF, I was impressed, too, how he was already thinking about his teammate in that interview. That was so slick and warranted. I think I’m gonna really like that guy!

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

I’m damn excited about everything and we haven’t even got to the draft yet. Brady isn’t going to lose twice 😂. Those stupid refs in the LA game sukked. Calling personal fouls on Suh and TB with no merit at all. I’m sick of officials making horrible calls that all too often go against us. It’s hockey too. They call garbage on the Bolts while letting their opponents get away with everything. Does everyone hate Tampa? I don’t get it. Go Bolts!!!

  9. DaBux Says:

    Experience>Whitehead

I’ll take the experience for $1000 Alex.

  10. Colin in Canada Says:

The replacement for Whitehead is possibly Antoine Winfield. Who will play FS is the question?

  11. David Says:

    Colin in Canada
The safeties will be Winfield and Ryan. Edwards will continue to be a back up and slot guy.
The beauty of it is all three can play both safety positions

  12. David Says:

Buccaneers keep getting and drafting players that love the game, are captains, love to study etc. Fantastic strategy

  13. Anonymous Says:

Ryan Logan is exactly what Tom Brady needed and who Brady probably recruited and pushed to sign. In Ryan, Brady now has HIS field general player-coach on the other side of the ball. Through Ryan, Tom Brady will demand accountability from defensive players as well as the defensive coaching staff. Bottom line, with Logan added to the defense, there will NEVER be a repeat of anything like the embarrassment which prematurely ended the Bucs 2021 season.

You guys are selling Edwards short. He’s the best pure FS on the roster… Whitehead was the best SS. Winfield is the best overall safety. Edwards will start at FS, Winfield at SS, and Ryan will back them both up. You don’t sit a ballhawk like Edwards out and have him play 33% of the snaps.
